"China Chalet, Financial District. At China Chalet, you can have everything you’ve ever wanted: dim sum, a Chinese banquet dinner, and a midnight rave scene. The room is lit up with bright pink LEDs and the tables are dressed in pink tablecloths with red roses and green fanned napkins. The food is good, the decor is better, and the irony is perfect. If you find yourself at a party here, you’ll be amidst flashing strobes, downtown club kids, and middle-aged Chinese servers in waiter jackets making vodka tonics and ask yourself, "Where the hell am I?"

Martinez Handmade Cigars

Cigar shop · Chelsea

"Cigar Shop, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. The Flatiron Cigar Shop maintains the old-school New York vibe that most of the city lost many years back. Tucked away in a tiny store-front on 29th, there are always at least 6–8 gents hanging around the shop rolling & smoking cigars while they drink their "coffee". If you do smoke cigars, they roll and sell their own blend right there on 29th street!"

Museum of Sex

Museum · Midtown East

"The Museum of Sex, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. You may not want to bring your mom to the Museum of Sex, but it can be a very good time with friends (Not in that way silly!). Great for reminding ourselves of social taboos and their uselessness. Makes for a fun date or a playful (mental) palette cleanser. From time to time there are novel and inspiring installations that are definitely worth the trip. The shop inside the museum is a bit naughty and very well designed. Lots of cool design finds can be had here."

Uncle Nick's Greek Cuisine

Permanently Closed

"Uncle Nick’s, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Uncle Nick’s has been our go to Greek spot for those days that we’re all super hungry and jonesing to reek of garlic and hummus. It’s a no-nonsense Greek restaurant with great food and plenty of room. It’s as good as you’re going to get outside of Astoria ;)"

Specializing in everything from photo processing, retouching, hologram technology, large-format display wraps and everything in between, these guys literally do it all and have been doing it for a long time in this neighborhood. Duggal is maybe not our first, and most cost effective, stop for a client but we love having them in the neighborhood."

Bombay Sandwich Co.

Permanently Closed

"Bombay Sandwich Co, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. A very healthy and hearty gluten-free vegetarian place that doesn't taste vegetarian. The food here fills you up but still leaves you feeling light. If you want to sit and eat, the shop opens up onto a small park with tables and chairs, perfect for Summer afternoon escapes from the office."

A Little Taste Cafe

Permanently Closed

"A Little Taste Cafe, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. A Little Taste Cafe is a well hidden coffee spot on the South side of 28th street. It's an unexpected gem mixed into the grungy & busy flower shops that line the bustling block. The interior is one you might call “industrial-chic” and just a bit stuffy, but at least you know your $4 Americano is going to not mess around. A great option if you're in dire need of a quality caffeine."

Num Pang Kitchen

Permanently Closed

"Num Pang, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Num Pang is a Cambodian sandwich shop on Broadway that’s overshadowed by the swankiness of the NoMad hotel across the street. The exterior is no-nonsense and approachable, yet it’s sandwiches are possibly the best in the neighborhood. You’ll get the most bang (and spice) for your buck. Whenever we find ourselves on Broadway in the afternoon, Num Pang is our go to spot for lunch. Go with either the Coconut Tiger Shrimp sandwich or the Pulled Duroc Pork and you won’t be disappointed."

Sports bar · Chelsea

"Pioneer Bar, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. This bar opened up about two years ago. When it did, it was the first retail business on the block (now there are several restaurants and three coffee shops). "Play, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. A "cool" cafe/ cocktail spot off 5th Ave. A bit overdone, but good coffee none-the-less. It's is a good place to transition from a daytime coffee in the front, to a stiff drink at their cocktail bar in the back past 5pm."

"Blink Gym, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Blink Gym is conveniently located directly 1 block north of our studio which makes it great for early morning or lunch time workouts. Good music (most of the time), chill vibes, but what we love the most (as bike racers) is the leg press machine."

The Flying Puck

Permanently Closed

"Flying Puck, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. The Flying Puck is a casual, no frills, sports bar in the shadows of Madison Square Garden with a love for Ice Hockey (as it's name suggests). On any given game night the bar is standing room only and filled with loud local Ranger's fans."

"Nomad Library, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Great place for pretending your Winston Churchill meeting your key policy advisor. Besides the tasty (and pricey) cocktails, the bar is a perfectly refined & snazzy setting if you're up for that type of evening."

"Waldy’s, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Good pizza is something the whole Anti/Anti crew values very, very deeply. Waldy’s does the thin crust, wood oven kind-kind-of-pizza phenomenally well. It doesn’t substitute a classic New York slice but definitely makes the list of great pizza in NYC."

Kremer Pigments

Art supply store · Chelsea

"Kremer Pigments, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. If the movie Harry Potter were to film a NYC scene in a magical fairydust shop, they would definitely do it here. Walking into Kremer pigment you’ll find floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with all kinds of color pigments you can possibly imagine. They also offer historic pigments, traditional binders, brushes, mullers and many other painting materials. A unique gem to this neighborhood."

Ajisen

Ramen restaurant · Chelsea

"Ajisen Ramen, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Ajisen Ramen, or as we have lovingly come to call it “shitty ramen” has a special place in our heart. It’s cheap quick and two blocks away. We love it the same reason why you love McDonalds. It’s great for takeout but our favorite is posting up at a table and talking shit with the waitresses (who do not take any shit) and eating way too much of everything."

"Zen Bikes, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Quality bike shops that know what they're doing in the city are generally hard to come by, and that's especially true in the Flatiron. We think Zen bikes is a solid, no-frills, no intimidation bike shop and can offer everything you might need in a pinch. Nothing fancy, just what you need."

Hanamizuki Cafe

Japanese restaurant · Chelsea

"Hanamizuki Cafe, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. The Hanamizuki Cafe considers itself a “minimalist-chic cafe specializing in rice balls with eclectic fillings, plus miso soup.” We know it as that Japanese spot next door that seems to be a hair-removal/spa (in the back) and also somehow offers very solid coffee that you can grab in under 60 seconds if in a hurry. They have the best quick snack in the neighborhood, an assortment of bite-sized meat/veggie rice balls pre-made to go."

Eataly NYC Flatiron

Market · Flatiron District

"Eataly, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. The Disney World of food. Makes me feel like I'm back at FAO Swartz, twenty some-odd years ago. Pick your flavor, literally– homemade everything imported fresh from where people care about what they package and sell as food. If you get bored, they are around 17 (more like 5) restaurants right there to entertain you. The rooftop beer garden also doesn't hurt."

Eisenberg's Sandwich Shop

Sandwich shop · Flatiron District

"Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Eisenberg’s Sandwich Shop is like no other in the neighborhood. It’s an all-day deli/breakfast/lunch/dinner escape into an old NYC we love. A staple of the neighborhood since 1929, the thick smell of greasy pork in the air, the authentic but tired & outdated decor transports you back in time when the city was not so slick and nostalgia was not just part of a branding scheme. Eisenberg’s shop is where we go after big meetings to unwind and grab an always satisfying bite of their famous pastrami sandwiches. Apparently the Egg Creams are pretty epic too."

Birch Coffee

Permanently Closed

"Birch Coffee, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. This great little coffee shop down the street from the Museum of Sex servers up superb coffee and pastries and boasts a cozy little loft (perfect for people watching). Whenever we’re coming from downtown we can’t help but swing by for a caffeine fix on our way back to the office."

The Cellar

"The Cellar, Flatiron by Anti/Anti. Cheesy. Both in the sense that it chases that “speakeasy” vibe, and in that they serve really yummy cheese dishes. Nice place to head over for a cocktail and some cheese, if that’s your thing."

Inwood Farm

Restaurant · Inwood

"Indian Road Cafe, Inwood. You can find me at the bar, but Indian Road Cafe is nothing if not fantastically versatile. It's almost hard not to feel intimidated by the delicious menu of farm-to-table cooking, a full-bar with handcrafted cocktails, a stellar selection of beer and wine, and super friendly staff. Not only that, but they have weekly bar trivia, live music, a monthly 'Lost in Inwood' series, and beer glasses that say: 'Hi - Neighbor' because they know how to melt hearts. I'm not the sort of person that makes reservations, and I love them for making me feel at home whether alone at the bar, sharing beautiful food with friends, or bringing a notebook and drinking coffee. They are a perfect embodiment of the Inwood vibe: understated, friendly, and tasty as you'll find anywhere else in New York City. I love Indian Road Cafe. You will, too. Everyone does."

"Inwood Hill Park, Inwood. Close your eyes and pick your favorite neighborhood spot. This is mine. It is magical here. Forget that you live in New York City. Get lost. In the summer, enjoy Mister Softee parked outside the baseball field. In the winter, go sledding with all the kids. Over double the size of the more well known, Fort Tyron Park, Inwood Hill Park is a beautiful staple of Inwood. With 196 acres, there is something for everyone: Trails to hike or run on, benches to relax on, baseball fields to play on, forest areas to discover plant life, and hills for picnics and sun-bathing. It's solace among the city's chaos and noise. It isn’t overly manicured or overly populated. It feels like an enormous backyard. Depending on where you enter, you can see the Harlem and Hudson Rivers. Main entrances include: Dyckman Street and the Hudson River, and on 207th Street at Seaman Avenue and Isham Street."

"Tread Bike Shop, Inwood. For six months, I lost my edge: I locked my bike up on the street. It snowed. It rained. It hailed. My bike didn't get harmed or stolen. Why? Tread Bike Shop talked me into the sort of lock that would take hours to cut through, and frankly, my bike just wasn't, you know, cool. Now, I need my edge back, and know where to go. If you're in need of anything biking related, this is the place to go. The staff is knowledgeable, funny, and always happy to answer questions. They have an extensive collection of bikes (300 +), accessories, rentals available, and a repair shop with free estimates, so you'll never feel unprepared."

The Met Cloisters

Art museum · Inwood

"The Cloisters, Inwood. The cheapest flight to Europe around. What are the words? Impressive. Magnificent. Perched in Fort Tyron Park, it's fancy and formal here: archways, splendid gardens, highly detailed and beautiful unicorn tapestries, hands clasped among statues, bright lighting, and generally an awe-inspiring experience. The Cloisters, dedicated to medieval art, hardly needs an introduction as the most well-known gem of Inwood and a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. If you live in Inwood, you can come to the Cloisters and just hang out. Sit in the gardens, relax, and enjoy the space-time continuum. And no, it never gets old."

"Inwood Local, Inwood. I love this bar in the wee hours, but it is a neighborhood pleaser at all times. Inwood local is everything you want in your neighborhood bar. Excellent and unusual craft brews with a rotating tap. Tasty pub food that includes pulled pork sliders and warm pretzel sticks. A chill vibe. Small and interesting decor details in an intimate bar setting. That alone could be enough. But there is more in the railroad style space. Walk down the narrow hall to find an adjoining room with lovely natural light, more space, and cafeteria-style tables. Beans and Vines express

New American restaurant · Inwood

"Beans and Vines, Inwood. A fan since Beans and Vines opened their doors in 2010, it is my favorite kind of place: unassuming, perfectly intimate, and delicious. Parked between a deli and an often-changing storefront, one could almost miss this tiny gem between 203 and 204 on Broadway. Beans and Vines serves a fusion of international food, offering a mouth-watering menu and a frequently changing wine selection (beers on the menu, too). They also have delicious coffee hence the name: Beans and Vines. For a long time, they would heat up the milk in my coffee (without me asking), so my regular cup of joe would be extra hot and amazing. It was love from then on out. It’s the spot for dates. The spot to bring your family. The spot for a good meal and friendly conversation."

Park Terrace Deli

Deli · Inwood

"Park Terrace Deli, Inwood. Friendly staff, good beer, and a fresh deli selection to hit the spot. But, if you're asking me, it's all in the seating. Single people of the world love a place to grab a bite and sit down, cafeteria-style. Part-time deli, part-time craft beer fridge, Park Terrace Deli is the spot to eat while obnoxiously observing college athletes depart from the nearby track and football field. 'I could run like that,' you lie to yourself, while enjoying three eggs and cheese on a plain bagel. You might buy you cereal here, you might get a panini for later. Who knows? Then an Allen hospital staff member comes in, probably just off saving lives, and orders a salad. Whatever, you love bodegas. You'll buy an apple before you leave."

While many food options are available on 'the strip,' Park View is a highlight for their belief in breakfast. Frankly, if you make pancakes and serve beer, I'm pretty happy. Weekends call for late breakfast. Sometimes, this is called brunch, other times, 'I'm hungry, Park View?' In nice weather, they have tables out front and plenty of people to decorate the street. During weeknights, their small and dimly-lit bar is ideal for soft-spoken conversation."

"Capitol Restaurant, Inwood. In life, we need certain things that we can depend on. A down-home place. A greasy spoon. An agreeable spot to sit for hours with nothing more than a cup of coffee. We need to feel comfortable and unadorned. Speak to me of diners, and it isn't just the eggs, potatoes, and toast. Dyckman Bakery

Bakery · Inwood

"Dyckman Bakery, Inwood. Generally speaking, one should never describe another person as perfect. It lacks understanding of complexities, it's a pedestal nobody can live up to. And yet, what if a person feels this way? Is it correct to say, 'I love you?' If Dyckman Bakery were a person: 'I love you.'This bakery is just so damn good. The coffee is perfect and to die for. The traditional Greek paper cups are perfect. You know, the one you have a ceramic version of. The treats are affordable in a city that is not. Two Hands

"Two Hands, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. The Avocado Toast is hands down (no pun intended) one of our favorite items on the menu here. We also enjoy the fact that there’s a short wait time for seating so that we get the most of our lunch break. This place is an instagrammer's dream with its all white-interior, sunflowers, and hip employees. They're rumored to have the best acai bowls in the city, but you didn’t hear that from us."

The Randolph

Taïm

Mediterranean restaurant · Nolita

"Taim, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Taim's fresh, made-to-order falafel platters are our favorite here at Barrel. The sandwiches are always packed to the fullest, and the falafel platter really fills you up."

Sweet & Vicious

"Sweet & Vicious, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Who can say no to 80s and 90s throwback music and inexpensive frozen margaritas served in mason jars (have too many and they become "regretaritas")? Stop in for Happy Hour and enjoy the openness of the back patio. The crowd is nicely mixed, ranging from suits to recent grads to hipsters and anything in between. We typically find any reason to host an office event or Happy Hours here and even visit with friends on the weekends. Get there early so you don't miss out on the fun!"

Stick With Me

Saigon Vietnamese Sandwich Deli

Vietnamese restaurant · Little Italy

"Saigon Vietnamese Sandwich Deli, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Best banh mi in Nolita! Under $5 for a sandwich, this delicious should be a crime. The baguette is soft in the inside, crunchy on the outside but not sharp enough to scrape the roof of your mouth like most places we've visited. The sandwich is loaded with flavorful pork, carrots, cucumbers, cilantro, and shredded pickled radish and is always very fresh. Go with the #1 House special!"

"Nice Green Bo, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Soup Dumplings!!! This place is surely a hidden gem in Chinatown but cherished by locals for their generous portions and reasonable prices. This place recently changed it's name but hasn't changed the quality of yumminess they serve daily. Our favorite is (obviously) the soup dumplings. If you aren't a fan of soup dumplings, the Peking pork chops and sautéed pea tips are also winners in our book."

"McNally Jackson Books, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. An old-fashioned place that emphasizes the importance of delving into a good book with no technological interruptions. Ferrara Bakery & Cafe

Bakery · Little Italy

"Ferrara Bakery & Cafe, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. We celebrated a birthday here at Barrel with a delectable tiramisu from our neighbor that was gone in the blink of an eye. Save some time and step inside for a quicker exit. Plus, the cannolis are rumored to be the best in the city!"

"Eileen's Special Cheesecake, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. They say it's the best cheesecake in NYC (sorry, Juniors). Their mini cheesecakes are awesome for trying out all the new flavors or sharing with your mostly lovely co-workers. Our favorites: strawberry, salted caramel, and original flavors."

"Egg Shop, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Sounds like a simple breakfast nook right? Wrong! The Egg Shop is open until midnight and offers the limitless opportunities of a full bar. Asian grocery store · Chinatown

"Deluxe Food Market, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Clean but busy Chinese grocery with a hot food bar, bakery, fresh produce, and other foods prepared daily. Soba noodle shop · Lower East Side

"Cocoron, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Cold, hot, and dip soba, this tiny restaurant is great all year round. The Pork Kimchee Dip Soba and Japanese Curry Soba are super flavorful and fun to eat. They have pretty good vegan options as well. Go during lunch time to avoid the long lines at dinnertime! Cash-only."

Black Seed Bagels

Bagel shop · Nolita

"Black Seed Bagel, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Montreal-style bagel shop with an interesting flare. Bagels are made fresh daily and come with an array of intriguing toppings. Black Seed makes it a point to shape their bagels a tad smaller than average in order to emphasize the flavors of the toppings but don’t be fooled, you’ll be more than satisfied and full. We'd suggest the beet cured salmon with horseradish cream cheese bagel sandwich or the whitefish salad bagel sandwich."

Baz Bagel

Bagel shop · Little Italy

"Baz Bagels, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Who doesn't want breakfast all the time? Baz has a cute, vintage diner atmosphere with remixes of your favorite breakfast sandwiches. "Samurai Sharpening Service, Meatpacking District by Alisha Austin. Do you have a knife that is not cutting like it used to? Then you should come here! Margery is a woman with extensive knife sharpening experience. She started knife sharping at fish markets on the Jersey Shore in 1974 and after a stint working in California with a master woodcarver she took over the Samurai Sharpening Service and brought it to New York. Chefs and cooking aficionados bring their knives to her wrapped in knife cases, cloth, and in some cases, butcher paper. Margery unwraps each one and inspects it by hand before determining the best course of action. Some need more care than others but every knife gets the care it needs. Margery is also an avid sculptor. You can find a link to her work on her website."

Ample Hills Creamery

Permanently Closed

"Ample Hills Creamery, Meatpacking District by Alisha Austin. Voted the best ice cream in NYC, getting ice cream from Ample Hills Creamery is an experience. Each batch is churned in Brooklyn and shipped all over the United States. But there is nothing like having someone give a recommendation and have a cone passed to you. This location has its own flavor that you can’t get anywhere else: a root beer float inspired creation called Floating Over the High Line."

Li-Lac Chocolates (Chelsea Market)

"Li-Lac Chocolates, Meatpacking District by Alisha Austin. Li-Lac Chocolates is Manhattan’s oldest chocolate house. In business since 1923, they have a selection of more than 140 chocolates. Every chocolate is handmade in New York in Industry City. I personally recommend their 72% chocolate bar. It’s a good blend of sweet, smooth, and rich goodness. Fun fact: their life-size heel mold is as old as the store itself."

"Posman Books, Meatpacking District by Alisha Austin. Posman Books is a family-owned independent bookstore located within Chelsea Market. It contains a sizable collection of poetry, non-fiction and children’s literature. At Posman, books are on shelves and books are in people. Interested in a place for meeting up after work hours? They make delicious alcoholic drinks."

Neighborhood Goods

Permanently Closed

"Chelsea Market, Meatpacking District by Alisha Austin. Chelsea Market is home to a wide array of shops and services. The building was once home to the National Biscuit Company (a.k.a. Nabisco) and you can find artifacts and artwork from its time as a baking facility. While the options of food are varied here, one of the reasons I like it is because of its variety of typography. Since it is also tourist location, you can also pick up traditional tourist items with the Chelsea Market logo on it."

Upland

Californian restaurant · Midtown East

"Upland, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. Foodies all over are trekking to sample Chef Justin Smillie's California-inspired cuisine. But design buffs should also take note: the interior here (by Roman and Williams) is just as stunning as the kale sausage pizza. With an open kitchen, an airy dining room and copper light sconces sparkling all over, the entire restaurant seems to glow with effortless sophistication. Whether it’s a special occasion, a romantic night out, or a fancy brunch, Upland always seems to hit the spot."

Dover Street Market New York

"Dover Street Market, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. Part store, part art installation and part conceptual playground for fashionistas, Dover Street Market has something for everyone. Whether you're looking to buy a little $10,000 number by Comme des Garçons, a trendy trucker hat by Supreme, or if you're just here to ogle at the avant-garde fashion: this is hands down the most unique shop in town. A work of art in itself."

"The Old Print Shop, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. The Old Print Shop has been buying, selling and dealing in all things print since 1898. A true New York City gem, this is a place you can get lost in for hours and travel back in time. The Cannibal Beer & Butcher

Permanently Closed

"The Cannibal, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. This is the kind of place people don't expect to find in Murray Hill:a Belgian gastro-pub with a crazy beer selection, crazy-good food and a super charming rustic garden. To top it off, The Cannibal has an in-store butcher shop to remind you there's a good reason they call themselves that. The food both here and at their attached sister restaurant, Resto, is consistently great."

Grand Central Oyster Bar

Oyster bar restaurant · Midtown East

"Grand Central Oyster Bar, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. If you make your way past the crowds of tourists in Grand Central's whispering gallery, you'll find delicious oysters, clam chowder and ice-cold beer in this classic New York institution. Dating back to 1913, the underground space is famous for it's cavernous vaulted ceilings and an ambiance that will transport you to an altogether different era."

The Morgan Library & Museum

Art museum · Murray Hill

"Morgan Library & Museum, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. Pierpoint Morgan's private library (not too shabby, if you ask me), is now a much bigger museum with a gift shop and a delicious restaurant. Most recently expanded by architect Renzo Piano, the complex has a soaring steel and glass central courtyard that plays nicely with the original Italian palazzo style building (designed in 1902 by Charles McKim). Sporting not one, but three Guttenberg bibles, this place is a serious treasure trove of impossibly rare books, manuscripts and drawings."

Blue Smoke

Permanently Closed

"Blue Smoke, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. As if it weren't enough to open a seriously smokin' bbq restaurant (with a massive bourbon list and industrial style to spare), the owners of Blue Smoke also operate the top notch Jazz Standard in the space downstairs. Lucky for you, Danny Meyer's southern menu can be enjoyed in both venues. Come for the BBQ, stay for the Jazz."

Kalustyan's

Indian grocery store · Kips Bay

"Kalustyan's, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. While not a destination for its interior design, Kalustyan's will blow you away with it's wall-to-wall selection of hard-to-find spices and ingredients. From Asian to Indian to Middle Eastern to African— ethnic restaurants around the country order their spices from here. If your local grocery store is giving you blank stares when you ask them for sumac, it's time to try Kalustyan's."

Grand Central Terminal

Train station · Midtown East

"Grand Central, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. In our book, Grand Central is the one must-see for anyone who's ever stepped foot in New York. But beyond the majestic Tiffany clock, the soaring vaulted ceiling of the grand hall and the beautifully integrated Apple store, there are cute little gift shops, a swanky cocktail lounge (the Campbell Apartment) and an amazing food market tucked inside (Grand Central Market)."

"Salvation Taco, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. Chef April Bloomfield and Ken Friedman's taqueria has the same laid-back vibe of their other restaurants (The Breslin, Spotted Pig), but in a much more colorful, vibrantly designed and funky environment. The food (like everything else they touch) is wonderful. Unpretentious, with a refined and modern twist on Mexican street food."

130 E 29th St

Building · Kips Bay

"Curry Hill, Murray Hill Kips Bay by Marcelo Cardoso. Curry Hill refers to the dozens of Indian restaurants clustered along Lexington Avenue between 27th and 28th street. With various regions and distinct cuisines, you'll definitely want to expand your palette here. While every New Yorker has their Curry Hill favorites, I recommend exploring the block a little and seeing what calls you. You really can't go wrong here. But if you also want some ambiance to go with your your naan, have a closer look at Bhatti, Chote Nawab or Haldi."

Their storefront on Great Jones Street teeters a line between showroom and art gallery that feels just right for the beautiful and unusual objects adorning the walls, floors and ceiling. "MUJI, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. MUJI's home furnishing and wardrobe products are made to be almost anonymous in their simplicity. Without the clutter and overwhelming variety of the typical modern shopping experience, the space is remarkably relaxing, with soothing music and a subtle sage scent. "The Public Theater, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. The Public Theater is a much-loved, non-profit Off-Broadway theater known for developing, producing and importing innovative work (and also for its iconic Paula Scher-designed identity and branding). Whether touting an irreverent yet wickedly smart show at the smaller bar-slash-performance stage Joe’s Pub, or filling their proper theaters nightly for showings of world-class soon-to-hit Broadway productions (read: “Hamilton” originated here), or masterminding Shakespeare in the Park every summer, there’s a reason the Public has been a staple of the NYC arts and culture scene since the 1950s. Bonus: The building is also home to The Library at the Public, a fine dining restaurant and bar ideal for pre- and post-show dinner and drinks."

Mile End Deli

Paired with a few briny pickles or a side of the irresistible poutine, and the result is a well-rounded, inventive and hearty Jewish-inspired feast. "Café Angelique, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. Café Angelique is a mini European-style coffee shop with a discordantly large menu of coffee drinks, flaky pastries and light breakfast and lunch fare. The staff is exceptionally friendly; the atmosphere, reminiscent of a cozy French bistro; and the seats by the windows perfect for people watching NoHo’ers strut down Bleecker. While we recommend visiting the café to leisurely sip a really, really good cup of coffee, if you’re in a hurry, stop by the coffee cart on Prince Street between Broadway and Mercer for an abbreviated menu of the same delicious treats."

The Smile

Permanently Closed

"The Smile, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. This rustic, French-leaning restaurant is known (and rightfully so) for its ambience. The subterranean dining room feels cozy and protected, with low lights and a casual table setting fit more for the Left Bank than lower Manhattan. The owners support small farms and source locally when possible; try the marinated goat cheese, steak tartare, or the couscous. This is the perfect spot for an early brunch, drinks and dessert with girlfriends, or small plates after an afternoon of gallery hopping. There are only about 15 tables, so it would be a wise move to skip peak hours."

"B Bar & Grill, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. There's something for everyone at B-Bar: indoor/outdoor seating, a comprehensive menu of staple dishes for any meal, countless bars, and even a taco stand. 8 E 8th St

Greenwich Village

"Colonnade Row, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. LaGrange Terrace, more commonly known as Colonnade Row, originally consisted of nine row houses built for New York’s fashionable elite (think of the Astors and the Vanderbilts) back when Lafayette ended at Great Jones Street. Today only four of the homes remain. Built in the early 19th-century, this Greek Revival architectural marvel was one of the first historic landmarks registered in New York, yet today it struggles to maintain its poise. Sharply renovated on the inside (1-bedroom apartments go for upwards of $4,000), the marble Corinthian columns on the exterior are now cracked and crumbling."

Vic's

Italian restaurant · NoHo

"Vic's, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. Vic’s hits the sweet spot by maintaining a relaxed and cozy vibe without feeling cramped—it even boasts a few booths! The location was once home to the Astor family stables. Now, the resto-bar is smartly designed with an elongated open floor plan: first you encounter the bar, then a wood-and-brick-lined dining room, followed by an atrium and lastly, the kitchen. Vic’s was opened in 2014 by repeat restaurateurs and elegantly decorated with a designer’s love of detail. Try one of the many options of wine by the glass, and order anything that comes with the crispy potatoes."

"Alta, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. Atla is the subdued younger sibling of Flatiron's upscale Cosme. Simple, elegant Mexican classics populate the menu in the simple, elegant space. Enormous windows face the corner of Lafayette and Great Jones, with grey tones and a wall of foliage, making it a bright and peaceful morning destination. Waits can be long and reservations hard to get so breakfast at 9am is ideal. Dishes are small and vibrant, ideal for sharing, and the friendly staff is always accommodating for dietary restrictions."

"Bowery Electric, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. Bowery Electric is arguably the most famous still-standing music venue in NoHo. The basement dance space and bar fills up early, so don't linger upstairs for too long, lest you miss the opportunity to boogie to some crowd favorites."

The Cooper Union

College · NoHo

"Cooper Union, Noho by Carbone Smolan Agency. "For the advancement of Science and Art," as its formal name states, is at the very core of the Cooper Union's mandate. And the architecture is certainly a demonstration of both in all its impressive beauty. The institution, long known for churning out Nobel Prize laureates and Fulbright Scholars, is dedicated to Peter Cooper's founding vision that fair access to an inspiring free education and forums for courageous public discourse foster a just and thriving world. Kiki's

Greek restaurant · Chinatown

"Kiki’s, Passerbuys Manhattan by Passerbuys. If you’re looking for this restaurant by reading the words printed on the awnings of Division Street, you’ll need to know Cantonese: “Kiki’s Greek Tavern” is written only in Chinese characters. Olive green doors and stone walls on the eatery’s interior are a better tell, and are touches that suit the Mediterranean cuisine of Kiki’s well. The restaurant’s Greek cuisine is straightforward and delicious, so whether you order seafood, lamb, or salad, you really can’t go wrong. Beverly's

Art center · Chinatown

"Beverly's, Passerbuys Manhattan by Passerbuys. A dark (and decidedly hip) bar on the LES, the only light at Beverly’s comes from the glow of its neon signage. The walls of this watering hole—favored by passersby like Jo Rosenthal, Anastasia Patellis, Sam Giordano, and Lauren Nikrooz—are lined with artwork by local artists, but only those whose art has previously been exhibited in galleries. Osteria Cotta

Italian restaurant · Upper West Side

"Osteria Cotta, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Cotta is a beautiful Italian restaurant with a really cool layout that reminds me of a cozy Italian courtyard. When you walk in, you'll notice instantly the high ceilings, rustic design and open aired kitchen. There is an adorable upstairs area as well with plenty of seating and a lounge as well. The food is incredible and affordable. Almost everything i've had there is hearty and tasty. Check out the pizza's and risotto balls which are pretty. Cotta is always a great place to go with a group of people or on an intimate date. Highly recommended."

Jacob's Pickles

Southern restaurant (US) · Upper West Side

"Jacob's Pickles, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Jacob's Pickles is one of the first UWS restaurants my non-UWS friends have heard about. And for good reason. This place has become so popular for it's good and affordable eats that it's become a destination for people from other boroughs. The concept is simple, comfort food + beer + good cocktails in a hip lively atmosphere = smashing success. It's slammed literally every day and waits can be long. Luckily you can make reservations via OpenTable now so that help's a bit. The food is incredible, I love getting the fried chicken smothered with mushroom gravy and the collard greens are to die for. The portions are huge too, so expect to take some home if your a light eater."

Jin Ramen Upper West Side

Ramen restaurant · Upper West Side

"Jin Ramen, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. I was super excited when Jim Ramen opened a few blocks north of my apartment. The original Jin was actually in Harlem on 125th street. When I first went there I didn't think it was all that, however this one is definitely a tier up from the original. The menu, service, decor is a lot more expansive, and everything is delicious. They also have some creative ramen's like a Filipino inspired one that is sublime. My only complaint is that it's a bit cramped and the wait for a table can be long, however just put your name down and grab a drink close by!"

Famous Original Ray's Pizza

Pizza restaurant · Upper West Side

"Ray's Pizza, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. When I first moved to the UWS, Ray's Pizza was half a block from my old apartment. It was a godsend for a cheap and quick meal and is also open late for a late night snack. There are plenty of other "Original" Ray's Pizza's around the city, but this one is my favorite. The slices are thin and crispy and you can fill up off of just one. There is plenty of seating and the decor has a retro 80's vibe to it."

217 W 96th St

Upper West Side

"St. Frances Thrift Shop, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. This unassuming thrift shop is located in a basement of a church. I always find cool things for the kitchen, books and even artwork at ridiculously cheap prices. They also take donations in the back so if your looking to do some spring cleaning, this is a great place to help others in need. My prop stylist friends have found some amazing props for sets here as well so it's a good place to dig!"

Zabar's

Gourmet grocery store · Upper West Side

"Zabar's, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Zabar's is definitely a neighborhood if not NYC institution. It's a foodie destination housing some of the best smoked fish, prepared foods, coffee's and more. On any given day, rub shoulders with UWS locals buying gourmet breads, bagels, cheeses and prepared foods. Some of my favorite things to get there are the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee by the pound and their delicious homemade soups. For an added bonus, check out the upstairs area for a massive selection of kitchen goods at great prices! This is definitely worth a trip to the UWS on it's own."

Yakitori Sun-Chan

Temporarily Closed

"Sun-Chan, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. I'm so glad Sun-Chan exists in my hood. Not only is it a great place to get some affordable and authentic Japanese food, it's also open late. The atmosphere is always lively and the servers are all Japanese making you really feel like you are in Japan. My favorite things to get are the yakitori skewers, sushi and the seafood nabe stews which are perfect on a cold evening. Also, you can't beat the specials on the wall and the $5 hot sakes!"

"Xi'an Famous Foods, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Xi'an Famous Foods is another great addition to the UWS for authentic Asian eats. Even though this place is a chain now, rapidly popping up all over NYC, it's stayed true to it's roots for inexpensive authentic Chinese food. On any given day, you'll find hoards of local Chinese students from Columbia and everyone in between. It's a great place to grab a quick bite of hand pulled noodles and dumplings. My two favorite things to get are the Sweet & Sour Spinach Dumplings and Tiger Vegetable Salad."

The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine

Catholic cathedral · Morningside Heights

"Cathedral of Saint John the Divine, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. When friends and family come visit from out of town, St. John the Divine is usually a favorite place I take them. Seemingly a little out of place, this Gothic heavyweight towers over all the neighboring buildings bordering Columbia and residential high rises. One might expect to find a building like this in Europe, but we are lucky enough to have it right here in the UWS. What's really cool is they always have interesting art installations inside that meld with the church's architecture. It's always a humbling and inspiring experience when I visit."

Silver Moon Bakery

Bakery · Upper West Side

"Silver Moon Bakery, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. This neighborhood bakery is a favorite among all UWS residents. People travel great distances to get their famous breads and cakes, which are as good as they look and are always baked fresh. The friendly staff are always eager to help out with any custom orders. In the spring/summer, they have outdoor seating, which turns into a bustling cafe."

Saiguette

Vietnamese restaurant · Upper West Side

"Saiguette, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Saiguette is one of my hand's down favorite Vietnamese spots in the city. It's definitely no frills and primarily a take out place as they have very limited seating. Their banh mi's and pho are super tasty and affordable; however, some of my favorite things on the menu are a bit more pricy. I highly recommend the Crispy Tofu Skin Roll, Grilled Juicy Chicken Thighs and Grilled Shrimp Salad. Everyone I turn onto this place becomes addicted. You can't really go wrong with anything you order!"

Roti Roll (Bombay Frankie)

Indian restaurant · Upper West Side

"Roti Roll Bombay Frankie, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Roti Roll is another late night favorite of mine that serves up pretty authentic Indian Street Food, perfect after a night of drinking. I love getting the Aloo Gobi Muttar Frankie (Spiced Potatoes, Cauliflower & Green Peas), Chicken Lollipops and Popcorn Shrimp!"

Peacefood Uptown

Vegan restaurant · Upper West Side

"Peacefood Cafe, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Whenever i'm feeling like I should be eating a bit more healthy, I head over to Peacefood Cafe. It's a fun place with lots of natural light and a lively atmosphere filled with happy waiters and fresh food. I've tried a number of things, which have all been good, but my favorites are the pan-searedshanghai-style dumplings and sushi roll (made with raw vegetables only) and tahini sprouts sandwich! They also have great smoothies as well if you're on a liquid diet."

Koko Wings

Korean restaurant · Upper West Side

"Koko Wings, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Koko Wings has been an amazing addition to the UWS since one of my guilty pleasures is Korean Fried Chicken. No longer do I have to venture down to Korea Town now! Their chicken is pretty solid with all the usual Korean sides like seafood pancakes, kimchi, bibimbap etc. They do delivery but their actual restaurant is actually pretty cozy and nice to dine in as well. They have Korean beer and nightly specials as well!"

The Hungarian Pastry Shop

Bakery · Morningside Heights

"The Hungarian Pastry Shop, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. This insanely busy bakery is located right across the street from St.John the Divine, which also means that it's really close to Columbia. As a result, it's almost always packed to the gills with students camped out with textbooks and their laptops. The vibe is definitely very college coffee house. The pastries are excellent, not the typical fare you get at Starbucks or any other chains. These are authentic Hungarian Pastries someone's Grandma would make!"

e's BAR

Bar · Upper West Side

"E's Bar, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Even though the UWS has a plethora of fun bars, it's hard to pick one that I would go on a regular basis. Many of them are very fratty or sports bar oriented which don't really suit my tastes. My ideal bar would be someplace lively, great drinks and crowd, food, not too packed and great music. E's fits all those and more. The bar is never too crazy packed and there is plenty of seating with nooks and cranies all over the place to catch up with a friend. They always have great beers on tap and drink specials (including happy hour!) Added bonus: board games!"

The Dead Poet

Irish pub · Upper West Side

"The Dead Poet, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. I think I honestly spent 12 hours at The Dead Poet one St. Patrick's Day so you know that it's good. It's a relatively small bar that is narrow and can get packed pretty fast. In the back, they have tables with taps that you can reserve and have a free pour of beer which is amazing for celebrations. You just pay how much you pour at the end of the night. Not only do they have great Irish/Non-Irish beers on taps, they have some really creative cocktails based on famous authors that are pretty potent(try the Edgar Allen Poe). They don't have a kitchen there, but you can order from their sister bar down the street. Try the fish and chips!"

Broadway Dive

Bar · Upper West Side

"Broadway Dive Bar, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Dive Bar is one of me and my friends favorite neighborhood bars. We often find ourselves perched on the top floor over looking the bar having rotating beers and wine (on tap!) till the wee hours in the morning. It's always a really mellow crowd in a warm and inviting atmosphere. The music is always just right and during the week they have live music and comedy. They also have beer fridges where you can buy beer on the spot and drink it at the bar or get it to go!"

Barney Greengrass

Breakfast restaurant · Upper West Side

"Barney Greengrass, Upper West Side by Ken Pao. Barney's Greengrass is a Jewish deli institution that is on the same level as Zabar's. They are more of a breakfast/lunch spot where waiting 30-45 minutes on a weekend is pretty average. The smoked fish, bagels and eggs are all delicious and dining there makes you feel like you are transported back in time. It's no surprise a few movies have been filmed there!"

West 111th Street People's Garden

Garden · Morningside Heights

"People's Garden, West Harlem by Tracy Zhang. The West 111th Street People's Garden is just that - a piece of quiet greenery in an otherwise busy neighborhood. Looking at the space from the street, you'd never know there was a hidden park space behind it. But with the Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine as backdrop, the garden carries an air of surreality."

"Three Lives & Company, West Village by Superficial Studio. As they say on the company’s website, it’s “one of the greatest bookstores on the face of the Earth.” and we completely agree. The tiny bookstore is like a good friend’s living room jammed full of excellent books. The staff are dedicated to passionate readers and the local community. It’s just an enchanting place to visit."
