The Dead Rabbit is a celebrated two-story Irish saloon in FiDi, known for its vibrant atmosphere, exceptional cocktails, and elevated pub fare.
"After 11 years of renown in New York City, The Dead Rabbit opened a second location on Dirty Sixth Street, transforming a former B.D. Riley’s into a cavernous pub full of heavy wooden tables and walls covered in homey framed artwork. It's equal parts cocktail bar and restaurant, blending Celtic classics with Texas flourishes. That means you can find popcorn tossed in Terry Black’s spice mix, fish and chips, a large Irish breakfast, and a cowboy caviar bowl all on the same menu. But it's a hit-or-miss experience, with food that misses more often than it hits. Dishes tend to arrive underseasoned, overcooked, and priced as if they’re meant for dukes with deep pockets. Where The Dead Rabbit excels is its cocktails, including a dedicated Irish coffee menu with five excellent varieties. Head here for a caffeine buzz in a nice atmosphere that’s a significant cut above most of the bars in a 100-foot radius, but if you’re looking for memorable Irish food, try Kelly’s in South Austin." - Nicolai McCrary
"You’ll see more Irish coffees than pints of stout at this FiDi pub, which was founded by a couple of Irish cocktail nerds in 2013, and looks like a set from The Gangs of New York. Everything from rambutan to sassafras is infused and stirred together here, and while meticulous drinks aren’t as much of a novelty nowadays, the cocktail-centric Parlor floor is still nice for a date involving finicky glassware and some scotch eggs. The ground floor Taproom works for a more casual night, but either way, make a reservation to be guaranteed a spot." - bryan kim, willa moore, will hartman, neha talreja, sonal shah
"The Dead Rabbit is a renowned Irish pub that got its start in New York City. It has won many awards over the years, including the top spot in the World’s 50 Best Bars in 2016 and eight Tales of the Cocktail Spirited awards. The pub is known for its contemporary Irish drinking culture." - Erika Adams
"This sawdust-strewn, two-floor Irish saloon, named for the infamous Irish American Dead Rabbit gang, offers an exhaustive selection of brews, whisky, cocktails, and delicious gastropub fare. The cocktail menu -- a veritable tome -- is the brainchild of International Bartender of the Year, Jack McGarry. Drinks are divided between stirred and shaken, and by season. Order the Irish coffee: it's the best in the world." - Paperless Post
"Sometimes, the beverage program at hyped bars starts to rest on its laurels. This is not the case at Dead Rabbit, a tri-level Financial District destination which offers an impressive mix of classic and house cocktails, a devoted list of Irish Whiskey drinks, draft beers, and non-alcoholic creations. Food menus vary by floor, with some overlap. Try Irish-accented pub grub like Guinness-braised burgers and chicken pot pie in the lower-level taproom, and smoked salmon deviled eggs and lamb chops in the upstairs Parlor Room." - Emily Saladino, Devra Ferst
