"Think: Salted caramel apple brandy ice cream, hot honey, fresh baguettes, fig jam, and goat cheese. Inwood Gourmet is an adorable craft shop with specialties in cheese and other local and small batch items. The shop opened in 2013 and is run by a lovely married couple. "This Inwood bodega with an exemplary prepared foods selection excels at empanadas, pressed sandwiches, rice and beans with roast chicken or pork, and perhaps best of all, egg breakfasts. The one shown here, salt cod and eggs seasoned with plenty of onions and chopped green peppers, made a splendid repast while a friend and I took a late-morning hike in hilly Inwood Hill Park." - Robert Sietsema

I found MY experience at The Inwood Gourmet to be as true as it’s name. The cheese, the olives, the produce and the service is just that. A WONDERFUL Gourmet experience and an opportunity to pamper, indulge and expand one’s palate coupled with the warm, inviting and knowledgeable staff. I both recommend and have recommended the visit to Friends and Family.

Google
Always great conversation with owner/operator Lauren Skoulatos and her family, as well as Ms Kayla on most weekends this is a spot where you will find exclusive quantities of Inwood neighborhood knowledge together with excellent foods not available nearby including sundry gourmet sauces many made locally or in NYC, flavored olive oils and vinegars drawn from drums into your own bottle (or theirs), fresh slices of Baklava and, perhaps our current Inwood Gourmet favorite, a savory-sweet vegan sausage made with figs and spices. Seriously excellent.

This little gem is a wonderful addition to an already special neighborhood. It's small in size but offers a huge variety of cheeses, olives, olive oils, breads, and prepared foods. Being of Greek origins, the owner and chef offers lucky customers wonderful Greek dishes. The spinach and feta pie, and Greek chicken soup, are amazing. Go see, smell and taste for yourself. You are welcome.

We LOVE this shop. Inwood is so lucky to have this specialty store with homemade Greek dishes, yummy spinach pies, olives to die for, and tons of cool condiments from all around the city. The owners are super sweet and fun to chat with as well. It's also a good spot to buy high quality cheese.

Google
This is a great small business. We get legit Greek yogurt from there every week. They also have a great selection of cheeses from around the country and solid naan and pita breads. The people running the store are always extremely friendly and willing to help you find anything you need. You can even put in a request for orders to pick up in a day or two.

Love this little gem and the owner, Lauren, is the sweetest. Great selection of indie products in pretty jars, fresh produce and the best Greek yogurt. Don’t miss the in house and locally/tri-state sourced baked goods...to die for.

While I was searching for a place that sells sweet treat, I came across this cheese shop – a quite unlikely place for sweets. What I was after was some macarons, and yes, they had them! So, all intrigued and curious, we headed to Inwood Gourmet. They sell local cheese, some special and artisan, including vegan kind. They also have all kinds of olives, and Greek items. And, according to their sign, “best bagels EVER” are also sold. The inside was not too big, there were two ladies, possibly the owner and her daughter? They were very nice and greeted us with a smile. They didn’t really bother us while we looked around, until we asked questions about some of the things they have. The most noticeable items in the store were these silver containers, and whole lots of olives. The containers had different kinds of olive oil and vinegar, I thought they were awesome. You can have a little sample of each before deciding which one to buy, which was really cool and helpful. Speaking of sampling, they had sample of cheese that they sell. We bought their "best bagels EVER" - we could not resist - some macarons, and 1 bottle of artisan vinegar and olive oil, both poured from the silver containers. Both ladies were really nice and helpful, and before I started to try to pour the olive oil into the bottle, the older lady asked if I wanted her to do it, as she is so much more used to it. Great help, I don’t know if I could have done it without making a mess. They also told me a bit about their cheese, and answered any and all questions we had. Really friendly, and that made it such a pleasant visit. I will definitely go back for more of their offering, especially when I finish my vinegar and oil. I had the best experience here today/yesterday! I needed preserved lemon for a recipe which I've heard can be hard to find. Well it is hard to find because I went to Fairway, Citarella, and Whole Foods and none of them had it. My last stop was Inwood Gourmet, where Lauren told me she also didn't have it BUT she could call her friend in Queens who might. The next day I got a call from Lauren saying she got the preserved lemons and I could come pick them up any time. Amazing! So happy to have this place I'm my hood. Next time I'll skip all the other stores and just go here first!

Yelp
I love this little food shop. I stopped in during winter when I was viewing apartments in the area, and I appreciate that the owner Lauren took time to share some thoughts about the area. I've come back since moving to the area to grab some veggies and olives which have been great.

Yelp
This is my go-to spot for homemade meals by Chef Jamal. The quality of ingredients is spot on perfect and the selection keeps me returning. Also, the best cheese selections and fresh veggies in Inwood! The Greek Lemon Chicken Soup keeps the cold months bearable. Do not miss stopping by for a home cooked meal to go!

Yelp
We're so lucky to have this beautiful shop in our neighborhood, though it's worth a trip if you don't live in Inwood. Such a thoughtfully curated array of amazing foods and locally made crafts. We love this place!

Yelp
I absolutely adore this shop! A small independently owned gourmet food shop with some truly unique items. I grabbed a couple pumpkin spice vegan donuts on my visit yesterday, which were surprising in their simplicity and low-key sweetness. They're making some moves on offering some zero waste options in terms of bulk olive oils on olives with containers you can bring back to refill. They've got a great vegan pepperoni that is fig based and absolutely delicious. So much to see in one little shop. A major selling point for me is the kind of connection you get in a place like this. Yesterday was my first visit in several years, and even then I would guess I made no more than two visits even then. When I walked in, the conversation with the owner, Lauren, started like this: Me: "I met you a couple years ago with..." Lauren: "Oh yeah, you're Michael, right?" Anyway, I'm up in Inwood fairly regularly and look forward to stopping in here for treats, staples, and their frequent vegan events. Stop by and say hello too when you're in the neighborhood. This is the kind of shop that makes me adore NYC!

Yelp
Probably a good find for Inwood, but nothing major to write home about. Not a large selection of cheeses and prices aren't posted. If you are looking for interesting salamis, olive oil, or local vegan cheese you can find it at this small shop. From a service perspective, we were annoyed. We asked for another slice of the same cheese to hit our credit card minimum ($1.30). My boyfriend specifically said $1.3 worth of cheese and she said no problem and cut us a $5 slice of cheese. We could have refused, but at the end of the day it wasn't much and I'm sure the cheese is good, but the way she pushed it left a bad taste in our mouths. Interesting "Cloister" honey got me all excited that it was local honey, but the packaging said NC. Baked goods smelled really good, but we didn't try any. Had we have known we'd be upsold on our add-on we should have just went with the $1 puffs :).

Yelp
How fantastic it is that Inwood now has a place to get delicacies not often found uptown! Inwood Gourmet is run by a very friendly family. The staff was very helpful and courteous, pointing out some of their favorites and answering questions. IG has a very interesting selection of olives (pay-by-the-pound), hot sauces, flavored salts, vinegars, Greek dips, and cheeses (among other things). Some products are local. Everything I purchased was delicious. Go to IG! Inwood is very fortunate to have this addition to the neighborhood.

Yelp
Whenever I need to buy a friend a gift, I love stopping in here and getting fancy jam, honey, or everything bagel spice. And then I can get myself something tasty - like olives, spinach pie, paleo-friendly donuts, or fresh veggies like heirloom tomatos and arugula. Definitely stop by and get yourself a treat!

Yelp
absolutely delicious! and a beautiful spot right near the park, the mac and cheese is a must if u like truffles

Yelp
Inwood Gourmet is a great little shop with a variety of unique food items like local and imported cheeses, local NYC honey, olives, and baked goods. My husband and I wandered in one Sunday and bought some cheese and olives which were delicious! We also got some peppers stuffed with goat cheese and some spinach pie. Kayla, the lady working in the shop was very kind and friendly. I will definitely return soon for more olives!

Cole T.

Yelp
What a cool little shop Lauren has on Cooper Street. She's curated quite a collection of cheeses, olives and assorted munchies. I'm a big fan of her pita breads, especially the nan. Its so good heated up in the oven with a little olive oil. She has a nice collection of olive oils and vinegars as well. Its also a great feeling supporting a small, local business.

Linda C.

Yelp
Sometimes your wishes are granted. Inwood Gourmet has a huge selection of fresh cheeses with a focus on local ( and global) delicacies . The samples inspired my choices for a dinner party. Guests were very impressed and thought I went to Eataly.

Robert J.

Yelp
Excellent spot with awesome products. Olive oil with Garlic is killer. Their Taramosalata is AMAZING, and they they also have the best Greek Yogurt I've ever had

Kristen M.

Yelp
Great local source for unique foods and beautiful gifts. I always find something interesting!

Yelp
This small stories one of the best places in Inwood. They have wonderful cheeses, olives, and other odds and ends. We especially like it that they sell items in bulk and we regularly use them for olive oil, which we consume in frightening quantities. The owner is a lovely person genuinely cares for the environment and for the neighborhood, which makes me especially happy to patronize her store...but her products are so good that I would probably shop there even without those extra perks!

Jennif L.

Yelp
Inwood gourmet ROCKS! It's a neighborhood shop with awesome local and Greek/Mediterranean nom noms! They put together party platters for the holidays. Props to Lauren for supporting local chefs & makers like me!

Yelp
The stuff they sell is OK, nothing spectacular. Their cheeses have always been above average and excellent a few times -though they can be a little overpriced-. Canned and packaged goods are fine - regular Astoria fare-, the strained yogurt is good, and the spinach and cheese pies are yummy -better if they are not microwaved-. But, baklavas and syrupy desserts are so-so, and the olives are mediocre at best; -they tend be quite tasteless and the pitted ones are usually semi-dissolved in the brine-. What makes the place special is that they carry small batch products from local producers, and sometimes have the owners there to showcase their products. For me, this sets Inwood Gourmet apart from a glorified Greek deli and I hope they continue doing it with new producers and items. The owners are a sweet and friendly family, but as much as I like them I have to point out that they are not very good at serving the customers efficiently. It is common to wait up to 10 mins to pay, while the owners would be giving another customer sample after sample of cheese and have a long conversation about each one. Don't get me wrong I like the attention but in a tiny store that easily gets crowded, waiting to pay for a single item while the storeowners don't seem to notice you can get frustrating. Not a major problem really, but it had me turn back from their door couple of times after seeing four customers inside.

Yelp
I live across the street from this hidden gem and could not believe my good fortune to see it open just over a year ago. Since then we have been getting our gourmet cheese, olives, and other delicious snacks from here. Everything is always delicious and of top notch quality. The woman who runs the shop is always friendly and happy to help you in your selection if you, like me, like cheese but are not necessarily an aficionado.

Orion T.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place walking home from the farmers market. Super cute store. Friendly staff. Nice selection of gourmet treats. It's like a mini Chelsea Market but without the tourist. Can't wait to go back for more.

Yelp
Delicious lil spot. Their Greek yogurt and olive oils are so yummy! I used the yogurt in my meatballs as opposed to an egg. It's divine!!! Then I drizzled the basil olive oil on top of the pasta and meatballs. I cannot wait to try the olives next for my salads!

SK L.

Yelp
Awesome little spot and neighborhood gem! Bought some delicious cheese, bacon smoked salt and cookie dough peanut butter- love it! Great service and awesome options!

Yelp
Love this little store. The very best taramasalata. Also Horseshoe brand hot sauces from Rhinebeck. Excellent. A dog hitching post and water bowl too. My only criticism is that the pricing is erratic. If I want cheese I'm sticking to Zabar's. Very friendly staff.

Katharina F.

Yelp
Wonderful little store with a lovely owner, a true gem in our neighborhood! And even though cheese is their speciality, they also carry some great vegan products, like vegan cheese, vegan cookies, and vegan cake. We're so lucky to have them in Inwood!

Wesley C.

Yelp
Inwood needed a place like this. The store is very clean, and the products are interesting and varied. The fresh cheeses are excellent, and the flavored oils, salts, and vinegars are similar to the ones you would find in Chelsea Market. The people working there are incredibly friendly. I took cheeses and grape leaves from Inwood Gourmet to a couple of Christmas parties and was asked by different hosts to bring more the next time that I visited. I'm happy to support local businesses, especially ones that are this well run and maintained.

Louisa G.

Yelp
I agree that they need more basic top quality Greek foods. if they threw in quality crusty breads and quality fresh bagels, I feel they would draw in people who would not normally shop there.

Brendan G.

Yelp
Really as good as it gets, the specialty cheese is excellent! So many specialty items you couldn't find anywhere else. I'm very lucky to have found them.

M W.

Yelp
Inwood Gourmet is a great little Mediterranean gourmet store, and has the intimate space to show off all of their goodies. The owners are longtime Inwood residents, and have now contributed a gem to the neighborhood. Gentrification or no, I hope this pocket of sunshine lasts! They even have Cowgirl Creamery cheese, and the spanakopita, which I tried on the recommendation of the owner's father, was perfect for lunch. Stop by, say hello, and support local jewel.
