Two girls in front of me were asking about what plants live on low sunlight conditions. The clerk was very patient with their questions. And helped them to choose the best plant. They have a huge selection of everything! And great selection of planters

Just moved into the block and have been using Saifee for all my planting needs with QUALITY but also CHEAP. Also even bought the materials needed to make a beautiful floating shelf. The staff is always available and very accessible. Just ask them any question and they'll legit direct you to exactly everything you need. Can't re-emphasize the CHEAP aspect too enough, it's very AFFORDABLE.

Your average city hardware store that sells some other stuff such as plants as well. I have never not been able to find something I need here; however, full disclosure, I am usually not looking for a lot. Overall, extremely friendly and helpful. Clean. Prices are okay for nyc. Good hours too. Just FYI, there is a credit card minimum so if you’re not planning on spending a lot, I would recommend bringing some cash.

12 years ago I used to live around the block from this shop and always found it to be an extraordinary hardware store. Was just in there recently killing time waiting for a table, and it's even better than I remembered. Lots of great items to discover on top of all the things an ordinary hardware store would have. The owners obviously take great care in selecting what goes on the shelves here. Great practical place that is also fun to explore. If you need a plant, an amethyst, a hammer, go check it out.

Need to replace a lightbulb? Saifee's got you. Need a bigger pot and more soil for your growing succulents? Saifee's got you. Need some silver polish for your bracelet that turned black because of chlorine? Saifee's got you (I know, this is very specific but I'm just speaking from experience). Despite its unassuming size, this small shop has everything I could possibly need, and more. If you ever find yourself in need of any hardware supplies, plants, or other gardening supplies, I recommend paying a visit to this local treasure trove!

Local hardware and plant supplies. They have just about everything you need for cleaning, fixing, making, and planting. Packed with stuff. The staff knows where ever is. Just ask.

Poor service. I went in looking for a specific screw . I told the guy it's a European screw (Ikea furniture) and he says"I know". Ok then he goes to a box and pulls out a screw which is clearly not the right size and tries to sell it to me. When I tell him it's not right and show him that they're clearly not the same size, he says that's all we have. he also said that the hardware store doesn't have the tools to measure the screw to check sizing! Ridiculous.

They have a lot of stuff, from mason jars to crystals, plant supplies, hardware... Fun place to browse. I've bought everything there from soil to lightbulbs. All good. And recently I brought my grandmother's old lamp in to be rewired. Same day service. Good price. Excellent experience from start to finish.

I don't know anything about the hardware side, so don't even ask me, buuuuut I was surprised that the price of the plant pots wasn't exorbitant. We bought a tiny tree and a pot and took it back with us to New Jersey. I have never been on the PATH with a tree before. There's a lot of interesting little things in this place, stuff Indiana Jones has probably stumbled upon.

I never thought I'd feel this passionate about a hardware store, but to borrow a phrase from Marie Kondo, coming into Saifee hardware brings me joy. They always have exactly what I'm looking for, whether it's some knickknack for my apartment or yet another plant. The staff is so friendly and always ready to help find anything. I bought a plant here a few months ago, and it has been looking thoroughly unwell, so I stopped in to ask what I've been doing wrong. The employee I spoke with figured out what was wrong, explained how to fix it, and even showed me a few similar plants as examples of what to look for. The only problem with this place is that the plants are so lovely and enticing that I always impulsively buy plants on my way home. They're taking over my apartment! Please send help!

CAME INFESTED WITH BLACK APHIDS. While the plants and hardware are affordable, I'm glad I didn't have plants previously due to the pest infestation. The store clerks also aren't very helpful or friendly.

Went to buy nails, tape and weatherseal. Didn't appreciate that one of the workers in blue shirts kept watch of me like a guard, possibly because I was a black man wearing a hoodie, coming in from the rain. Didn't even bother to help. Going to H Brickman and Sons down the street moving forward, where they don't stereotype you and actually help you find supplies.

Super cute little garden & hardware store with a solid selection of live plants outside. Love that they have so many different kinds of terrariums and pots, perfect for DIY projects. They also have some pre planted succulents, pothos in lightbulbs, etc. Prices are very reasonable for the area, way cheaper than some of the specialty plant stores in the east village. You also get 10% off for checking in!

Saifee Hardware & Garden in NYC received a large-ish shipment of alleged N95 disposable masks. The masks came in boxes of ca. 20 plastic-sealed 5-packs. They are selling each mask for $7.50 but you have to buy a 5-pack=$35 +tax. Of course, they are not considering to donate the masks to our desperate healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is your neighborhood hardware store that has everything you need. Unlike my neighborhood hardware store the employees here are friendly and helpful. After I showed the gentleman what I needed he pointed me in the right direction and answered all of my questions. The aisles are tight and jammed packed with things but all you have to do is ask for help.

Went here to get a key made and I guess these guys aren't experienced because they made me a totally wrong key that didn't work. I came back the following day and the guys first instinct was, "I didn't get my key made there, I came with another key to get a free key." He refused to make me another key for 10 minutes arguing with me that I'm trying to rip them off. I showed him the real key and the wrong key he gave me.. What kind of idiot scam is this?? DO NOT GET YOUR KEYS MADE HERE! BE PREPARED FOR HORRIBLE SERVICE! theres a better hardware store on 4th street

Amazingly reasonably priced! Beautiful plants, pots, and all your plant care needs met in one place. Not to mention they have a whole hardware section on the other half of the store. Definitely worth a stop.

I am obsessed with this place. It's not huge, but somehow they manage to pack in everything I'd ever need (...and want) into this corner gem. Saifee hardware is much more than a traditional hardware store. They have a great selection of plants, seeds, bulbs, potting equipment and decorative pots/vases/rocks. They also have a little household decor like candles and small gift items. What I love most about this place is their holiday section. For each season, they have a small but very well curated selection of holiday decor (and at reasonable prices.) I bought a ton of Halloween decorations here for a party, including these red bulbs I replaced in all my lamps in my apartment to create a spooky ambiance. Every time I go here and have a question the staff show no interest in helping you and when they do "help" it's usually not the correct product. Two visits and I've received 2 wrong product recommendations. I don't make claims of racism lightly but from my keen observation depending on who is needing help, you get a different response (Read some other reviews). Each visit was $100+ so you would think that a business would want to retain local customers rather than whiny east village Karens trying to return $6 succulents and energy stones... but have your way, if my tan is too much for your business then I will take this money somewhere else.

This store used to be called "Jack's Hardware" in the 70s and 80s, and the couple who ran it was so paranoid, they wouldn't let you buy anything. Since the store changed over to different management, I've been shopping here a lot. Saifee is well-stocked and the employees are knowledgeable about what they sell. In the blackout after Hurricane Sandy a few years ago, they were the only place I could find kerosene to fuel our oil lamps. And Saifee was one of the neighborhood businesses powering their lights with car batteries so they could stay open. They do have a really decent garden section, as well as their housewares section. Lately I've needed to replace an interior doorknob twice, and they were willing to sell me headless screws separately; those things are easy to lose. This store is very cramped and well-stocked; it's great to have it so close.

They have everything here! The store is chaotic but everyone working there knows where to find you're looking for so just ask. So far I've bought plants, window screens, key copies, cleaning supplies and their entire stock of mouse traps probably The only downside is the $10 card minimum but also it's a plus because the prices are pretty reasonable so just remember to have some cash on hand!

Saifee hardware is a hidden gem of East Village. Unique pieces and an array of beautiful things to decorate your home and garden. However, the best part is their customer service! Dawa is an absolute star. He tracked down an item we desired which wasn't in store, followed up and put everything on reserve for us ready to go! Total win win and highly recommend!

Changed my mind about Saifee since my first review. Their hardware department carries the basics-- everything the average apartment dweller would need. Their selection of plants and pots is huge and their prices for gardening supplies are competitive with Amazon on the items I needed. After seeing countless home and lifestyle magazines that source decorative items from their other location in the floral district, Jamali Garden (jamaligarden.com), I'm impressed with their buyers' style sense. Their holiday decorations and pendant lamps are really nice, making it a good source for unique items.

Just came to finish buying my plants for the summer. Picked out some jalapeños and some basil. Waited for some time in line to check out. I finally get to the front of the line only to be told there's a ten dollar minimum to use a debit card. My plants were 8 and change. I just said, charge me the $10 then. They refused. So I left the plants there as I had no other way of paying for them. I've been shopping here for awhile but this bs lost my business. I won't be back.

Plants! Get your urban green thumb going with a good selection of large house plants (a bit pricey at $20-80 each but t'is NYC), dirt, seeds, brooms and spray cleaners (to clean up the inevitable mess of trying to plant indoors). Decent hours. I would think it's the most overpriced hardwares store in the city but it's probably not. $10 credit minimum is annoying. They pay a percentage of sale so whats the difference! make you buy more junk.

It's pretty tight in there but they've got pretty much everything for your amateur handyman needs. There seems to always be a pretty available staff to point you in the right direction. Lots of cool decorative doo dads that you could probably find cheaper in the plant district's floral supply stores but by the time you schlep to 28th and 8th you'd probably be better off just paying a little extra to shop in the EV. I personally love to come here to see what plants they've got every now and then. It's a fixture for me anytime I need anything from a drill bit to caulking to fertilizer to a spare key, and I'd be sad if they ever closed because an Ace or Loewes put them out of business. This store has character and merchandise at a fair price. Remember to support local businesses, dear fellow villagers.

It's a wast of time. I called and asked if they cut a specific piece glass to order, they said they could and gave me a good price. When I got there they kept me waiting for 15 minutes then said they couldn't do it. Since they have no respect for their customer, they might at least have some respect for themselves, that when they tell you something it is true.

The hardware is waay overpriced and just basic stuff (Brickman, down the street a few blocks, is a real hardware store). There aren't a whole lot of garden supply places in the neighborhood (are there any others??) so I guess that's why this place is popular. There's a lot of decorative stuff which reminds me of Pier 1 Imports or something. Note that the majority of the flower pots, etc. come from Jamali on 28th street. If you're willing to make the trip up there instead, you'll save a bundle.

Maybe the hardware is expensive, but the gardening stuff here is both awesome and cheap. There's really good organic potting soil that you can buy by the cupful. They also have a nice selection of candles, from good quality reasonably priced ones to delightfully expensive chi-chi ones. $15 minimum for credit cards.

I love what they've done with their brick walls lately, which is to cover it with different lattices and trim options. I think more people are buying more garden things in the city lately. I've seen our choices in gardening supplies double in the last few years (maybe it's just because now I'm paying more attention). Anyhow, this place is expensive but I liked it a lot before I noticed that. I bought a plastic owl here to scare away pigeons and I still have the dear old bird. He doesn't actually scare much of anything away but I do like him in a sort of sculptural way. The hardware folk told me his name was Jaspal (apparently he was named after one of the salespeople because it drew a big laugh).

I love this place. I always come here for my terrarium supplies and the staff is always so helpful and patient. They really are the best! I had a blue spruce sapling I needed to repot and they were so helpful with how I could provide the best drainage with the pot I selected. The prices are reasonable and they have such a big selection for such a tight space. One of my favorite stores in the neighborhood!

I dropped by this place to pick up some plants to give my apartment a little green and oxygen love. Although this place has some plants, it isn't really the spot for garden shopping and I decided to go elsewhere. I was, however, able to pick up some odd-sized light bulbs at a reasonable price from the helpful staff. And that's the kind of thing you should be able to do at a local hardware store.

Great place to have in the area. Has what you need. They're a little pricey, but I assume so is their rent, so it works for me. If you need to load up on basics this isn't the spot, but for a one off or a special purchase this place is great. - All the little things you need for repairs around the "house": screws, spackle, paint, wall anchors, extension cords, 2"x4"s, tension rods, etc, etc, etc. You'd be hard pressed to not find 90% of what you'd ever need here. - Very attractive plants and pots - Got some great decorative light bulbs--half covered in silverly metal on the inside--for an exposed light fixture on my ceiling - Not a bargain, but the staff has in the past steered me to just what I need, instead of trying to sell me on the pricier version. That's a good sign!

Good selection and convenient, but everyone I've talked to knows less than nothing. Ask for paint thinner and you may get spray paint. Ask for help mounting on a metal stud and you'll get told to "just use a screw". If you know exactly what you need you'll be fine.

I love this little store. It's a great alternative to Ace Hardware if you're looking for some things with a little more charm. Great vases, cute pots for indoor plants, candles, incense, and many other quirky little home items all at a pretty reasonable price. I've also purchased several house plants from here, and the men in the store were very helpful in recommending which plants are best for low light, full sun, or in my case, which plants are the hardest to kill (and to their credit, I have yet to kill any plants after 4 months!) Absolutely will return here again and again.

They seem to have every random household item I need, despite being crammed into a relatively small space. Picture hangers, curtain rod, potting soil, window planter, etc., & at reasonable prices. The staff is very helpful & eager to direct you to what you're looking for or just to offer suggestions. I love walking by their sidewalk, jam-packed with various plants & herbs for spring!

As little as I know about hardware.. I have to say.. this place has everything you need for your home.. I'm so glad to find this place so I don't need to travel all the way to home depot on the west side.. Good service, friendly staff!! most important you get what you need for your home!!

This is such an amazing place for the neighborhood. You can literally get everything from them, and their staff is so helpful and knowledgeable. They do a lot of custom things and offer a special deal for the neighborhood businesses!

This was a nice place to leave near for last minute household fixer-upper needs. It's not the cheapest, and I only came here when I had to literally run across the street because I had no time to walk to the Kmart at Astor Place. They do make keys here, which is what I did most of the time. Pretty fast and easy.

Great service. Lots of selection. Even more awesome prices. This place has everything. Ventured here looking for hydrophilic rocks for my indoor plants and not only did they have all the supplies needed they also had little trinkets needed to make your garden nice along with tools. Also mason jars for 1.89. WHERE IN THE CITY CAN YOU FIND THAT?!?! THIS PLACE AND ONLY THIS PLACE. I've been getting ripped off by the guys on the corner of 13th and university for too long.... Will always be coming back to Saifees now for all my gardening needs!

I can not say enough good things about this hardware store. I am a DIY kind of person and this place is the best. The staff are so helpful and knowledgable and I have been able to find virtually anything i need for my projects. Its priced well for the area, better than most stores in this neighborhood, and the people are so much nicer. The one thing I would say is most over prices would be the plants, so maybe do your plant shopping elsewhere. But as a general hardware store they are amazing.

I love this place! I end up roaming their aisles for hours, even when I originally went in for one thing. They have everything you would expect at a hardware store AND THEN SOME. Lots of fun doodads. Best thing I was surprised and glad to know they carry is RALPH LAUREN textured paint collection. I'm a huge fan of brushed suede and aged leather... They have the whole collection! A++

Rented an 8" ladder from here -- The process was quick and painless, and was only $15 for the daily rental.

Neighborhood hardware store. I 've lived a few blocks away for a year and half and they normally seem pretty nice and have what I am looking for. However, a product I purchased there recently was defective, they refused to exchange and told me to take it up with the manufacturer, which I found frustrating. Next time I'll go to the true value on allen in chinatown instead.
