Nestled in a historic Greenwich Village building that once housed a Beat-era bookshop, Stumptown Coffee Roasters serves up rich brews in a cozy, charming space perfect for coffee lovers.
"There is a place that must be shut down called 787 Coffee where they will look you in the eye, charge you $7 for a cold brew and serve it to you in a plastic bag. If I’m going to pay $7 for a coffee I’d at least like it to be in a cup. And when I’m willing to splurge, I head to the Stumptown by Washington Square Park (only after getting a massage at Renew on West 8th, of course) and order a big ass drip coffee. It’s impossible to get a seat there, so I’ll grab my coffee and walk over to a very spiritual place called Lenwich. At Lenwich, you can get anything your sick mind can dream up. At Lenwich, I’m not afraid to order a turkey sandwich at 8am. I usually go turkey, muenster cheese, pickles, lettuce, tomato, honey mustard and mayo. I’ll take my treats to Washington Square Park and watch the NYU students stumble to class. Of course I don't miss cramming for an exam after staying up until 4 AM watching some guy play guitar until he kisses me, but I do miss college in so many ways—wasn't everything possible then? Yet, isn’t it now, still? I am profoundly tired." - cat cohen
"I love a proper nitro [cold brew]. There's just something nice and airy and really smooth about it. I like my coffee to have a more mellow roast. When I take my dog Neon on a walk to the park, there's a Stumptown nearby, and they always have some good fresh nitro. I highly recommend the Hair Bender blend when the week is almost done and it's a Friday and you need that extra kick." - brennan carley
"A favorite caffeine fueling station for more than a few. Their brew is rich and dark, full of flavor. Get the nitro and really get yourself in gear." - Visualized
"Originally from Portland but residing in what was formerly the Eighth Street Bookshop of the '50’s and '60’s, and famous hangout for the Beat Scene Generation writers Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg and Gregory Corso. This coffee shop continues to capture the unique corner building’s neighborhood feel and vibe." - 345 Design
