"If the movie Harry Potter were to film a NYC scene in a magical fairydust shop, they would definitely do it here. Walking into Kremer pigment you’ll find floor-to-ceiling shelves packed with all kinds of color pigments you can possibly imagine. They also offer historic pigments, traditional binders, brushes, mullers and many other painting materials. A unique gem to this neighborhood." - Anti/Anti

I've never seen another store with such a huge selection of pigments. Including some very rare and exotic. Also a selection of unusual mediums, I.E. potassium silicate, lithium silicate plus all the basics. As it was explained to me, Dr. Kremer in the 1970s as a chemist began developing historical pigments for art conservators, and his practice layer expanded into supplying pigments to working artists in general. Their main store is in Germany and the Manhattan store is an expansion. Don't miss their periodic classes and seminars which are excellent learning opportunities.

It was my first time there today, and I was so happy to see this place. They have a great variety of pigments and dyes.

Outstanding quality. Unfortunately difficult to reach by phone or email.

I absolutely *love* the watercolor paints I bought! The Star Gold is amazing, the Titanium White did great coverage over dark paints. I am waiting for 2 pans on back order. Will order again. When you order, be aware this is not Amazon next day delivery, but what I got was worth the wait.

Google
Not only some of the absolute best Pigments and Watercolours that you can purchase and use....The staff at Kremers is equally as wonderful!!! All of my supplies are consistently shipped lightning fast and packaged with excellent care! Their Gold Watercolours are exquisite and never disappoint! I highly recommend Kremer Pigments for your Watercolour and other Art supplies!

Google
On days long past, art stores didn't look like Starbucks, didn't have a redundant inventory of essentially similar ready made products, maybe even looked more like hardware stores, focused on providing tools for making something rather than selling some kind of 'creativity' vibe... This place takes me back to those days, and offers extremely fundamental building blocks - pigments, binders, etc. - that you can customize to your specific needs. Love the approachable, knowledgeable staff, love the range of supplies. I would be here every week if I could afford it

Google
One of my favorite places to visit as an artist the employees here really know what they’re doing with their pigments, and the selection is so beautiful and easy to walk in and purchase. I can’t wait to mix my colors using the advice that they gave me.

Google
Love their knowledge and quality of tools. The brushes holds paint well and make work easier.

Yelp
It's good to have somewhere to go to see a large variety of pigments in person, to avoid inaccurate photos/computer screens when buying. However, the shop is lit by very strong greenish blue LED lights that make a lot of the pigments look desaturated and a bit difficult to get a grasp of. Many pigments also come in a bag instead of a small plastic jar or tub, which is odd because it seems like one mishap or tear and your house is hit by a Cadmium or Cobalt powder bomb. All in all, it's decent for a reference, I have seen more affordable pigment stores online and I'd say you're paying for convenience coming here, but again a lot of pigments come in a doggy bag.

Yelp
Wonderful place , incredible variety and quality of products and awful communication. If you need a product and you do not know if they have it in stock, forget about getting an answer: they do not answer emails, never ever answer the phone, you cannot leave a message and they do not update they operating hours, not on the web and not in a recorded message. If for any reason they are closed, you would not know until you get there. But they post a sign on the door, lucky you!! Nobody is perfect but I wish they had a little more respect for their customer's time. But if you badly need a product that you can find somewhere else, just forget about them.

Yelp
A wonderland of paint magic. Expert staff who go above and beyond for customers (like Mike!). Please go visit.

Yelp
I have been a customer here since 2009 and the comprehensive stock of pigments, varnishes and other supplies for the truly professional artist and Conservator is unparalleled. Not cheap but great quality. Most of the staff is very sharp and knowledgeable especially Michael who is an artist himself and I highly recommend. A true oasis in New York City for the ultimate art purveyor and professional artist. Violin makers especially love this place.

Yelp
Kremer Pigments is one of those New York City treasures you feel lucky to have. If you are mesmerized by color, go visit Kremer. The staff is friendly and they don't mind you walking and gazing at all the beautiful colors. They have free classes sometimes. The manager, Roger, is very knowledgeable and also teaches at Kremer or look up classes outside of Kremer through coursehorse. The place is small, but the walls are filled and well-stocked. Aside from a variety of pigments (Historic, Earth & Iron Oxide, Synthetic, Glass, Enogu), they also have various binders, mediums, glues, fillers, solvents, wetting agents. They sell aluminum tubes and other containers to store your paint and a small reference material section with books. They have pre-made paint including watercolors. Just beautiful lovely color everywhere. For all you bookbinders and calligraphers, they have some tools and gilding material. Also, don't shy away because of the $ rating. Some of the pigments are costly in of themselves or because of quality. There's a pricepoint for everyone. I absolutely love this place!

Yelp
Too bad there isn't another pigment store in the city. At one time the service was good. The store is not what it used to be. The only thing that hasn't changed are the prices which are sky high. No one in this store seems interested in accommodating the clients. Bad attitude here. No longer friendly. The store seems to cater to amateur how-to demos. What a shame. You can't keep professionals happy when you are running a mickey mouse operation.

Yelp
Friendly non pushy staff that allows you to browse for hours. Very knowledgeable I even had a 15 min conversation with them specifically on pigments. :) The store looks small on the outside but it's deeper and more expensive than you might expect. I think it has all the selection from their website!

Yelp
Spoke on the phone and ordered with Rachel. She was fantastic and was super helpful at expediting an order I had placed. She was quite knowledgable and helped me get exactly what I needed for varnishes; she even pointed me towards rosin I didn't know Kremer had that was exactly what I needed. Best prices on the market for violin varnishing materials. Will definitely be using Kremer as my go-to varnish materials supplier. Thank you!

Yelp
I was told about this shop by another local art supplier who did not carry what I was looking for. What a surprise! They have watercolor paints set up so you can try them yourself- I loved that. They were very helpful. I found everything I wanted, plus more.. Will definitely shop when I visit Manhattan.

Yelp
cozy little store filled to the brim with pigments. lots of staff, but they will not bother you at all (i wasn't asked once if i needed help), allowing me to look at everything to my heart's content at a snail's pace. towards the back of the store, they have all of their watercolor sets laid out with a clean cup of water, two brushes, and a sketchbook for you to try them all out. it was there that i fell in love with the crazy pigmented brightness of the irgazine red (only ten bux for a full pan!). the pricing of most of the pans is crazy - 9 for half, or 10 for full. dude. just go for the full. kremer also has the best pricing for empty plastic watercolor pans - $4 for 25 half, or $6 for full. can't wait to try to make my own watercolors at one of their classes!

Yelp
I am shocked at how I have been treated at the store on 29th avenue today! They are normally very nice, sweet, helpful and kind when it comes to chose pigments and brushes. I am into egg tempera painting and go quite often to Kremer Pigments to buy different types of pigments ranging from $5 to $22 each. And yet, today I have had one of the rudest experience in my life.

Yelp
Kremer Pigments is a wonderful shop where you can purchase all kinds of colour pigments to make into paint, pastel, ink and more. From earth pigments to historical to crazy metallic ones. Other things you can purchase are beautiful Kolinsky brushes, silverpoint, agate burnishers, chalk dust (I had a bag of this and a roommate thought it was cocaine), fillers, books, containers, handmade watercolours + inks + oil paint and more. They have a set of wonderful Kolinsky detailing/retouching brushes made by the Kremer company at the price of $35. I really have to give huge thanks for the Gillot's Watercolour Medium Kremer makes and carries. I still do boil gum arabic mixtures to make watercolor medium but when I don't feel like going through that whole process I can use Gillot's medium to very easily make brilliant handmade watercolors. Depending on what kinds of pigments you purchase you could save more money making your paint instead of purchasing pre-made tubes. Every time I have come to Kremer Pigments, the staff have been helpful, patient, attentive and not intimidating. Prices aren't really labeled on items but feel at ease to ask staff for them.

Yelp
Great Pigments but a HORRIBLE return policy! I bought some Silicate Paints that ended up being not pure silicate but an acrylic emulsion. My clients weren't happy and I asked to exchange it. They refused to take the unopened bottles back that I had bought just a week before. I have bought thousands of dollars of their products and thought they would be more understanding with a small item return.

Yelp
This company is my go-to shop for genuine historical pigments that I use in iconography. Customer service is excellent! They promptly return phone calls, e-mails, and are very knowledgeable about their product. When they ran out of a specific watercolor set, they helped assemble one for me from what they had in stock and shipped it to me promptly. I highly recommend them!
