Deluxe Food Market is your Chinatown treasure trove, bustling with fresh produce, hearty hot dishes, and a bakery showcasing delightful traditional pastries.
"Clean but busy Chinese grocery with a hot food bar, bakery, fresh produce, and other foods prepared daily. Best-kept secret: their frozen pork and chive dumplings for purchase. Fry them at home for a delightfully juicy, but quick appetizer while making dinner. Don't forget to pair them with Sriracha and black Chinkiang vinegar. The dace fish paste for congee or making soups is also a favorite of ours." - Barrel
"Chinatown has a bunch of incredible grocery stores, but one of our favorites is Deluxe Food Market. It stretches the length of an entire block, with entrances on both Elizabeth and Mott Streets. While there are a decent amount of packaged goods and sauces here, Deluxe Food Market is best for buying produce. Most of it is inexpensive and fresh, like an entire bag of baby bok choy for less than $1.75. They also have a great butcher counter near the Mott Street entrance." - hannah albertine, nikko duren
"Deluxe Food Market, Little Italy Nolita by Barrel. Clean but busy Chinese grocery with a hot food bar, bakery, fresh produce, and other foods prepared daily. "Selling everything from produce to prepared foods, Deluxe Food Market is a bustling whirlwind tour of Chinese culinary fundamentals. That it also boasts a wide selection of pastries and sweets is less-known. The one-stop shop has everything from the familiar staples like egg tarts and mooncakes to less common pastries like the flaky, winter melon-filled “sweetheart” buns and moist, translucent water chestnut cakes." - John Tsung, Liza de Guia
"It’s worth braving the crowds at this perpetually jam-packed Chinese market for its vast selection of traditional fresh and frozen foods. From frozen dumplings and buns to Cantonese Peking duck and spare ribs at the butcher’s station, there’s no shortage of dishes to explore. In the ready-to-eat section, find superb zongzi, a bamboo leaf-wrapped glutinous rice dish, along with you tiao, or deep-fried dough, cloaked in sheets of fresh rice noodle and topped with scallions." - Dan Q.
