Sunny & Annie’s is a 24/7 East Village gem serving whimsical, giant sandwiches like the PHO Real and the Obama, perfect for a park picnic.
"New York has more than its fair share of dedicated sandwich shops featuring artisanal breads, gourmet ingredients, and the lot. Still, roughly 99% of all the sandwiches consumed in the city come from delis and bodegas. But while we’d normally agree that the best bodega is the one closest to you, some are truly better than others. Sunny & Annie’s in the East Village is worth stepping out of your usual radius. Their giant menu of creatively named sandwiches includes lots of Korean, Chinese, and Vietnamese ingredients—plus, they’re open 24 hours. The Order: The Kimchi Bulgogi Sandwich has Korean marinated beef, noodles, kimchi, avocado, and it’s perfect for a big lunch in Tompkins Square Park." - will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja, bryan kim, sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick
"New Yorkers know there is no better park meal than a deli sandwich and no one is doing them like Sunny & Annie’s, open 24/7. The creativity of the options here is unparalleled, with odd invented combinations like bulgogi and cantaloupe on a roll, with names often referencing pop culture or politics. It’s just a block from Tompkins Square Park." - Eater Staff
"You may be asking yourself, as I have done many times before, “is a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich a snack?” That depends: do you let the position of the sun dictate your life? Do you enjoy breakfast foods as Denny’s intended them to be eaten - all day long? Once you’ve come to the right conclusion, head to Sunny & Annie’s and snack on a fluffy roll congealed together by eggs and American cheese. This 24-hour bodega on Avenue B makes an inordinate number of giant sandwiches, often named after celebrities and politicians. If you don’t want a BEC, try a phở-themed sandwich with roast beef and hoisin sauce, or the BLT wrap with avocado, cheddar, and sprouts." - hannah albertine
"When there is always a lunch line it’s a good sign. Sunny and Annie’s, a small Korean bodega, is home of the ‘PHO Real Sandwich’ and seems to always have a line of hungry East Villagers outside the store. The Pho sandwiches come with pho bread instead of noodles, lots of beef, cilantro, bean sprouts, avocado, and Sriracha sauce. If Pho isn’t your thing, they have a long list of delicious sandwich options to choose from." - Champions
"Hummus sandwich 2011 at Sunny & Annie’s DeliYes, there is more than one dated hummus sandwich at Sunny & Annie’s. This one, vegan and presumably created in 2011, features a thick layer of red-pepper hummus, along with cucumbers, green bell peppers, purple onions, chewy romaine, slivered carrots, and slippery slices of avocado ($11)." - Robert Sietsema
