The Los Angeles Kids Guide
Huckleberry Cafe
Cafe · Santa Monica
"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout and delivery. With lines out the door by 10am, this is one of those spots where parents with early risers win: We go for the quinoa, veggie, and egg bowls, while our kiddos are bigger fans of the homemade doughnuts and Cheesy Eggs & Toast. You can eat in (the tables turn over quickly), or always take your turkey meatballs to go. COVID-19 Disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations. "
Aldea Home & Baby
Baby store · Downtown
"Itâs perfectly logical that after nurturing a thriving community of parents and kids in San Franciscoâs Mission District, kidâs store Aldea founder Johanna Bialkin would set her sights on an equally family-oriented LA neighborhood: Culver City. Thatâs because community is just as big a part of the Aldea ethos as sustainability (most toys, clothes, and furniture reside on the eco-friendly spectrum), creativity (there are things here weâve never seen anywhere else), and aesthetics (Oeuf, Monte, and Aelfie are just a few of the design-y brands on offer). There are weekly wine nights (for parents), story time (for kids), mommy-and-me yoga classes, live music, and more (for parents and kids). Walk through shelves upon shelves of giftables and Iittle nooks youâll want to lift directly from the store and plop in your home as isâand the good news is that you totally can, by setting up an Aldea registry. "
Simplethings 3rd Street
Permanently Closed
"From their yummy fried chicken sandwich to the delicious salted caramel 'cutie' pies, this is the place to indulge. There's soda floats, beer, and wine to boot. (Simplethings also has locations Westwood Village and Burbank.)"
The Coolhaus Shop
Permanently Closed
"Coolhaus makes handmade ice cream sandwiches in crazy (and crazy-good) combinations: Flavors like Beer & Pretzels and Milkshake & Fries are wedged between Chocolate Brownies with Maldon Sea Salt and Fruity Pebbles & Marshmallow. To make it even weirder (in a great way) they're served in edible, calorie-free wrappers. Oh, and there are options for vegans. They have locations in Culver City and Pasadena, along with four trucks, though you can always find their treats at Whole Foods."
Brella Playa Vista
Day care center · Playa Vista
"From the moment you walk in, Brellaâs open, airy space feels like home. Rather, it feels like a dreamy playroom thatâs also a learning community that we wish we had in our home. The Playa Vista on-demand childcare center is a community-driven, flexible, here-for-you place you feel comfortable leaving your children, whether youâre facing the back-to-work scaries (kids as young as three months old are welcome) or heading out for date night (on Fridays and Saturdays, kids can hang till 10 p.m.). Designed for the modern family (or even an old-fashioned family that needs childcare once in a while), Brella offers comprehensive childcare thatâs accommodating and adaptable: You can design a schedule that works for your family and pay by the hour via an app. Full of blonde wood and soothing colors, the interior is creative, comforting, and best of all, open seven days a week, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 10 on Fridays and Saturdays. Born of a desire to create a community and learning environment that nurtures development from infancy to kindergarten, Brella has a library, an art lab, a playground, a garden, and a nursery for the tiniest members. Thereâs even an area where parents can work, take calls or meetings, or grab a latte while the kids play. Brella is next-level in the childcare world: Beyond providing snacks and diaper changes, it actively works to educate families throughout their childrenâs development. Also worth checking out: The affordable classes on everything from nursing to sleep training to setting limits."
The Apple Pan
Diner · West L.A.
"COVID-19 Update: Open for delivery. This Los Angeles classic is still staffed by many of the same people who worked the U-shaped counter when we were kids: It's a stand-by for great reason. The menu is edited, the paper-wrapped burgers are no-frills and excellent, and the pie always comes Ă la mode. Cash only. COVID-19 Disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. Also, please note that we have not vetted any businesses listed within our guides for their compliance with applicable safety regulations."
Wild Child Gym
Childrens club · Downtown
"COVID-19 update: Open for small group socially distant classes outdoors and virtual sessions. This open environment gives kids ample space to do what kids do best: romp around. Wild Child is an environment where both kids and parents can enjoy spending time. Filled with ropes, ladders, rockers, and balance beams, the space is well lit, full of light wood and natural elementsâa set of hanging bars made from tree limbs, for example. But the game changer here is the way the incredible staff engages the kids in play. Wild Child is currently offering private and small group classes (ten kids, max) at the gym, plus a stellar selection of virtual courses to help them get the zoomies out at home. If you do choose to enroll your child in a class, note that only one parent is permitted in the space per child and all adults must wear face coverings. All CDC guidelines are strictly adhered to.
Early World Restaurant
Permanently Closed
"Los Angeles is woefully low on old-school, home-spun diners, which makes Early World all the more compelling. Speaking of compelling, you'd never notice it from its exterior, but inside, it's a giant, unpretentious, kid-friendly, almost all-booth space manned by some of the nicest people in Brentwood. The menu has all the predictable favoritesâboth for littles and hungover kids from UCLA."
Jon & Vinny's Fairfax
Italian restaurant · Fairfax District
"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout and delivery. If there's anything to dislike about this relatively new arrival from the guys behind almost every great restaurant in town (Animal, Son of a Gun, Trois Mec, Trois Familia...) it's that it's not twice as big. People line up out the door for both a table, and takeout, thanks to a pretty epic menu of pizzas and pastas. If you want a more low-key experience, stop by for breakfast when it's nice and quiet.
The Rose Venice
Californian restaurant · Venice
"COVID-19 Update: Open for delivery and pickup. Rose Cafe, a Venice standby since 1979, is breathing new life under the direction of chef Jason Neroni. While the interior has been updated, the space pays homage to it's long-time Venice Beach rootsâlocal artists have decorated the walls with a mix of modern pieces and whimsical, historic, imagery of this rapidly-changing neighborhood. The space is vast, encompassing a soaring dining room, open-air patio, food market, bakery, and Verve coffee bar. The takeout counterâfilled with tempting prepared foodsâis a welcome addition for the time-strapped local who can't linger over their morning matcha and avocado toast. Speaking of toast, the bread here is a must-order. Other stand-outs: the cacio e pepe and the fire-roasted chicken.
Kinokuniya Santa Monica
Book store · Mar Vista
"Based in Culver City's Japanese food market, Mitsuwa Market, the Japanese-based Kinokuniya offers great notebooks, stationery, pens, and gifts. Kids, in particular, go nuts here. There's also a location Downtown."
The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey
Hotel · Machado
"Granted, the location isn't the most convenient to the center of the city, but this five-star Ritz has its appeals: For one, it's on the Marina, which is a nice backdrop for sunset drinks; for two, it's close to Venice, and the only nice hotel option south of Santa Monica; and for three, you can generally get really great deals on rooms, despite all the luxe amenities (pool, gym, spa, et al). It's a great option for visiting grandparents, as there's plenty there and in the surrounding area to keep little ones busy."
Palihouse West Hollywood
Permanently Closed
"The concept behind Palihouse (which has locations in West Hollywood and Santa Monica) is genius: Each of the rooms, which range from studios to two-bedrooms, is built for long stays, with a small kitchen and generous living space. So while, like any hotel, you can book them for a few daysâthe big rooms are especially great for people traveling with kidsâthey can also be reserved for up to three months. The decor is warm and comfortable, with dark walls, white linens, and mid-century furniture. "
Shorty | Kid Yoga
Yoga studio · Preuss
"COVID-19 update: Studio classes are suspended, but virtual and outdoor pod sessions are in full swing. Kids are tiny balls of energy. Yoga burns energy. Put the two together and you have Shorty Yoga. Pre-COVID, we loved this cute but not cutesy space, with its La Colombe cappuccinos, free Wi-Fi, and stellar range of classes for littles of every age. This summer, Shorty Yoga has morphed into Camp Shorty, which is exactly what it sounds like: a yoga day camp for kids, the kicker being that this camp happens in your backyard. For $125 per session, Camp Shortyâs excellent (and masked) instructors will teach groups of up to four kids of any age, with a $25 supplement for each additional child. This at-home camp is available on both weekdays and weekends. Email donna@shortyyoga.com or call 424.646.3330 to schedule a class. Full social distancing and regular hand sanitizing are all part of the deal.
Honeymee Wilshire
Ice cream shop · Koreatown
"While thereâs no dearth of ice cream shops in LA, somehow quality soft-serve is still difficult to find. Honey Mee not only fills the hole in the market but it does so in a way thatâs just a little bit healthier. There are no unnecessary flavors added to make the ice cream taste like vanilla, which results in an exceptionally creamy consistency thatâs slightly less sweet than the traditional stuff. Whatâs more, in lieu of sugary toppings thereâs granola, honey oats, slivered almonds, and real honeycombs, meaning that both kids and grown-ups can get their fix without going into a full-on sugar coma. There's another outpost on Sawtelle. "
Salt & Straw
Ice cream shop · Venice
"COVID-19 Update: Open for pickup and local delivery. The small-batch ice cream business, which cousins Kim and Tyler Malek launched out of a single neighborhood ice cream parlor in Portland, has grown into a family of shops, including two in L.A.âthe original is in Hancock Park and a second just opened on Abbot Kinney. The focus at S&S is on inventive flavors: salted caramel cupcake, pear & blue cheese, avocado & strawberry sherbet. On the flip side, the single origin vanilla is some of the best weâve ever had. For those who arenât fortunate enough to live near a shop, the seasonal Pints Club, which sets you up with five unique pints every month and delivers them right to your door, is an excellent option.
Hot Dog on a Stick
Hot dog restaurant · Santa Monica
"For many reasons, the Santa Monica Pier is a like a siren song for the under 10 set, so you will invariably find yourself on the hook for a few turns on the Ferris Wheel. Don't eat there, though, as Hot Dog on a Stick is just a few steps away."
Reddi Chick Rotisserie
Barbecue restaurant · Brentwood
"COVID-19 Update: Open for pickup (order ahead) and delivery. This is nothing more than a simple food stand in the Brentwood Country Mart, but it's insanely good (and for us, steeped in nostalgia). The moist, perfectly-seasoned rotisserie chicken basket comes with plenty of barbecue dipping sauce, and fries that are absolutely worth the shot to the arteries. We've never heard a kid complain about the chicken tender basket, either. Don't be deterred by the lines: They move fast.
Wi Spa
Spa · Westlake
"Fans of traditional Korean spasâkids includedâtend to feel right at home here, with its clean, meditative "Jimjilbang" communal room, it's spacious, super hot saunas, and its no-nonsense massages and body scrubs. Head to the sauna, get a massage, and your nails done, too. "
Loteria Grill
Mexican restaurant · Mid-City
"The down and dirty Mexican food here appeases even the pickiest palette (they have the basics, like quesadillas and simple chicken tacos), and itâs in the long-standing Farmerâs Market, which is adjacent to The Grove. There, youâll find an American Girl Doll and a Dylanâs Candy Bar."
LocoL
Permanently Closed
"This is an awesome new fast food concept from chefs Roy Choi (Kogi, A-Frame, Pot, in Los Angeles) and Daniel Patterson (Coi, SF)âwith help from industry friends like Chad Robertson of Tartine, and Noma's Rene Redzepi. Entirely crowd-funded on Indiegogo, the concept is both simple and revolutionary: Choi and Patterson believe that fast food is the way it is simply because it's being puppeteered by suits at big corporations, rather than chefs. As Choi explains: "You wouldn't have record execs making the music, right? That's what musicians do. But right now, cooks aren't designing the food that most people are eating. The suits are. Let's get back to chefs making the food and the moral choices for the people. Let's get in and cook. And that's exactly what they're doing: Fresh, delicious, really well-priced "fast" food, like Korean-inflected cheeseburgers and fried chicken sandwiches. The first location is in Watts, with outposts coming in San Francisco and Oakland soon."
Brentwood Country Mart
Shopping mall · Brentwood
"COVID-19 Update: Open for food pickup, delivery, and virtual shopping experiences. This 1950s old-time country mart got a renovation and restoration about a decade ago. Besides being home to goop Lab, there are a spate of other great boutiques (Jenni Kayne, Turpan, Broken English, adorable kids store Poppy). It also wins huge points with little ones for its interior food court, where you'll find the world's best chicken (Reddi Chick), burgers (Barney's), and tacos (Frida). There's also an old-school candy shop (Edelweiss), an ice cream parlor (Sweet Rose Ice Cream), a bookstore (Diesel), a toy store (Toy Crazy), and a mini carousel. We, however are addicted to the delicious salads and seared salmon at the mart's restaurant. Always buzzing at lunch, the space grows quiet in the early afternoon and is a hidden gem for for a relaxed glass of wine and, in the absence of a friend, your computer for company as you blast through a stuffed inbox.
Brentwood Art Center
Art center · Pico
"COVID-19 update: The center is temporarily closed but a full roster of online art classes for kids of all ages is running. Brentwood Art Centerâs classes cater to all kinds of artistic interest, from drawing techniques to comic book illustration. This summer, theyâve moved their popular art camp online. Options span learning the fundamentals of watercolors and pastels and the art of collage to fun painting and drawing classes for kids. All of this artsy activity for kids as young as five happens on Zoom. Choose whatever session suits your child and register online. For something special, the Art Center offers private tutorials across most mediums, which could be a smart solution for a virtual birthday party.
JennyBec's Toys for Children
Temporarily Closed
"Bruder trucks, stuffed animals, and a giant wall of books make this pretty popular with the under 12-setâand a host of retro toys like slinkies, et al, make parents even more inclined to bring out their wallets. These guys do quick and great gift-wrapping, making this a go-to for birthday party presents."
Skirball Cultural Center
Cultural center · Brentwood
"The Skirball Cultural Center, a Jewish cultural institution that offers everything from exhibits to readings to recitals, is also home to architect Moshe Safdie's Arc, an incredible installation that occupies an 8,000 square foot gallery. Kids can climb aboard the wooden ship and interact with the animals, crafted with everything from rope, to recycled newspaper, to keyboards, and vegetable steamers. Make reservations well in advance."
LA Kings Ice at Pickwick Gardens
Ice skating rink · The Rancho District
"When the Los Angeles sunshine starts to feel a little too hot, Pickwick Ice Center is an oasis of cool indoor activity. The rink is closed to drop-ins but open for day camps. Staff members are practicing strict social distancing, numbers have been drastically reduced, CDC-approved cleaning protocols are in place, and everyoneâkids includedâmust wear a mask inside."
JAG Gym
Gymnastics center · Culver City
"JAG Gym pays an incredible amount of care and attention to its students, and the range of classes tailored to different ages and skill levels proves it. The gym is strictly following CDC guidelines, and thanks to an expansive space, social distancing is easy. Class sizes have been reduced, and all staffers wear face coverings and undergo daily temperature checks. Throughout the summer and into the fall, JAG is running its usual volume of gymnastics classes, plus full- and half-day camps for children five and up."
California Science Center
Science museum · Exposition Park
"The Space Shuttle Endeavor is parked on-site, thereâs an IMAX theater, and you can ride a high-wire bicycle perched 43-feet above the ground. Those are just some of the flashiest thrills: Little ones can experience the ice walls of the arctic, the aridity of the desert, and a view of the ocean floor. Plan to spend multiple hours."
Flicka
Children's clothing store · Windsor Square
"This place carries adorable clothes and whimsical accessories for both boys and girls from newborn to tween. Jelly sandals, tutus, and Petit Bateau staples mingle on the racks with plenty of European brands."
Color Me Mine
Pottery store · Studio City
"First, pick a ceramic item to paint: it's not just cups and plates here, they also have figurines of dinosaurs, mermaids and pets. The helpful staff is on hand to supply paints, stencils and sponges to make the plain white ceramics your own, no matter your painting skill. When you're done, they take your work, glaze it, and fire it for you to collect a few days later. For parties, you can also get them to come to your home. There's another location in Beverly Hills."
Aquarium of the Pacific
Aquarium · Long Beach
"The aquarium doesn't just stop at fish: There's also a very friendly flock of lorikeets, along with sea birds, seals, and sea otters. There are several permanent 'Galleries' alongside the temporary exhibitions that show what life is like under the Californian waves. Kids will enjoy the chance to pet the rays and sharks, and budding veterinarians will be fascinated by the chance to watch real-life procedures on the resident animals in the new Molina Animal Care Center."
La La Ling
Children's clothing store · Los Feliz
"For the past eight years, Ling Chan has made this store a go-to for the coolest contemporary kids' fashion. But it doesn't stop at clothes. La La Ling also stock bedding, furnishings, hand-picked artwork for the nursery, and personalized gifts. With the help of their personal shopping service, they can help you put together a perfect baby shower gift."
Compartes Chocolate
Chocolate shop · West Adams
"COVID-19 Update: Open for pickup. Before there were disruptors and influencers, there was: chocolate. CompartĂšs has been at the forefront of the chocolate sceneâyes, there is a chocolate sceneâsince Elvis, Sinatra, and the Kennedys were fans. And now the Los Angeles brand offers people who love chocolate and food and chocolate with food a peek behind the cocoa. The La Brea flagship store meets chocolate factory is open for public tours, and itâs as gorgeous and considered as the brandâs signature packaging. And man alive, does it smell good. Designed by owner and CEO Jonathan Grahm, the Wonka-esque space is a 6,000-square-foot marble-stainless-steel-and-brass dive into the world of CompartĂšs. A tour will take you through every step of the chocolate-making process: from the roasting and toasting of specialty ingredients (homemade doughnuts, churros, farmersâ market nuts and berries, plus a laundry list of superfoods for the brandâs new line of vegan chocolate) to the moment the bars get poured into shape. CompartĂšs will be celebrating seventy years of sweetness in 2020, but the chocolatiers still use traditional techniques, so watching truffles and other confections come to life is more old-fashioned whimsy than prescriptive assembly line. The kids will love the magical environment, and their parents can expect to pick up design inspiration along with impossibly delicious chocolate bars. The entire place is filled with antique furniture and Parisian design notes, all thoughtfully chosen by Grahm. The space is available for tours, tastings, and private events (aka birthday party gold). "

ArcLight Cinemas - Santa Monica
Permanently Closed
"It always blows visitors minds that at most of the cityâs movie theaters, you can pre-book specific seats, meaning that you can eat dinner and wander around until minutes before the show starts, and not have to jockey and jostle for position. We love the Arclight in particular because thereâs an on-site bar and during 21+ screenings you can sip your wine while you watch. Locations in Culver City, Hollywood, Pasadena, Santa Monica, and Sherman Oaks."
Kidspace Children's Museum
Children's museum · South Arroyo
"COVID-19 update: Classes at the Kidspace property are suspended but the virtual roster is excellent. While the physical Kidspace property is closed due to current restrictions, the seriously robust online offering makes this temporary loss easier to handle. Kidspace-at-Home has a full online roster of creative programming tailored around arts-and-crafts, science, and animals for all age groups. The art projects are especially well conceived and involve the bits and pieces you probably already have at home: painting rocks from the garden, making rainbow popsicles to slurp outside, even homemade slime (parents, donât panicâitâs an easy-to-contain mix of corn starch, dish soap, water, and food coloring). COVID-19 disclaimer: We are working hard to keep our listings as up to date as possible (deliveries, outdoor dining, etc.), but given the evolving nature of local COVID-19 restrictions, we recommend double-checking the information in this guide with any business you plan on visiting. "Sitting on the site of what was once a giant mansion that Randolph Hearst built for actress Marion Davies in the â20s, this is now a 5-acre, completely public beach house, complete with the homeâs original Olympic pool (the house was irreparably damaged by an earthquake, which led to its demolition). The Great Escape Club - PERMANENTLY CLOSED
Permanently Closed
"This genius business bills itself as a "playspace and retreat." It's outfitted with a full, modern, and blessedly clean kids playspace that's supervised during open hours. While kids are playing, parents can drink tea and coffee in a parents-only room, plug in and handle emails in a workspace, or, best of all, sign up for massage and reiki treatments. While the concept works best during the week, this is also an excellent place to host a weekend birthday party."
Griffith Observatory
Observatory · Griffith
"Griffith Park is one of those spots where you think youâll spend an hour and end up staying for the day. Complete with an observatory, a planetarium (thereâs a live show every sixty to ninety minutes), loads of displays, and even more hiking (it sits on more than 3,000 acres, and offers fifty-three miles of trails), this draws a crowd from across the city. La Brea Tar Pits and Museum
Museum · Mid-Wilshire

For a kid-friendly afternoon adventure, rent a four-person pedal boat for the afternoon."
Serenity Park Parrot Sanctuary
Corporate office · Los Angeles County
"Located in the back of the Veteranâs Garden, a 20-acre oasis thatâs dedicated to rehabilitating vets with PTSD, youâll find a sanctuary, where injured, abused, and abandoned cockatoos, parakeets, macaws, and parrots can find relief. Theyâre tended and nursed back to health by veterans, who apparently find a certain satisfaction in helping something so frail get back in the air. Itâs open to the public, and the birds love visitors."
Nate'n Al's
Deli · Beverly Hills
"COVID-19 Update: Open for curbside pickup and delivery. Nate 'n Al in Beverly Hills the place to go for authentic Jewish deli food (there's now an outpost at LAX, but it's not quite the same). You'll feel like you're stepping back into the '60s when you walk through the door. Bagels, turkey sandwiches on rye, matzo ball soup, are all givensâquality cold cuts and fresh bread make the sandwiches truly delicious. Café Gratitude
Permanently Closed
"COVID-19 Update: Open daily for takeout and delivery. Everything on the menu is an affirmation, so if you can stifle the giggles at names like "I Am Connected"âwhich is actually an amazing zucchini cilantro hummusâyou'll find that the vegan food here is delicious, even for those who normally refuse to go meat and dairy-free. There are picks for every sensibility, from coffee milkshakes (made with almond milk), to cashew cheese topped corn tacos to Indian curried lentils. There are three locationsâHancock Park, Venice, and the Arts Districtâand the CafĂ© Gratitude team also has a Mexican iteration in Hollywood called Gracias Madre. The Getty
Art museum · Brentwood
"COVID-19 update: While the Getty is temporarily closed their catalogue of online exhibits is excellent and the digitial experience is well worth a try. Offering some of the cityâs best views, you can spend a good half-day picnicking on the lawn above the central gardens, or wandering around the Richard Meier-designed exterior (construction employed about 1,200,000 square feet of travertine) before you even head inside. The exhibitions are always varied and interesting, the permanent collection is important, and there are excellent hands-on activities for kids. You only pay for parking at the bottom; admittance is otherwise free. MOCA Store
Gift shop · Downtown Los Angeles
"Until the opening of the Broad across the street, MOCA was LA's only museum wholly dedicated to contemporary art. As always, there's something great to see at their downtown location, their outpost in the Pacific Design Center, and the super rad Geffen Contemporary, housed in a former police car warehouse in Little Tokyo. "
Petersen Automotive Museum
Museum · Mid-Wilshire
"Though it's an equal draw for car-obsessed adults, this museumâimmediately across the street from LACMAâhas huge kid appeal. For one, in the third floor Discovery Center they can climb aboard a California Highway Patrol Motorcycle, a Ford Model T, and a racecar. They can also race Hot Wheels and pick up a few tidbits about what makes a car tick."
Shutters on the Beach
Hotel · Ocean Park
"Shutters may look like it was lifted straight out of Cape Cod, but a quick survey of the endless sand out front suggests otherwise. Excessively comfortable, elevated beds may make it harder to get up in the morning, but should you manage to get your running shoes on, an oceanside path stretches for miles in either direction. Bike-rental kiosks dot the beach and thereâs obviously welcoming surf just a few steps awayâit really donât get much better. The view, the location, the vibe: It's all great, even if some dĂ©cor elements, like the bamboo bedposts and the heavy mirrors, don't feel very modern."
John's Garden
Sandwich shop · Malibu
"COVID-19 Update: Open for takeout and delivery. John's Garden has occupied the same spot in the Malibu Country Mart since long before it was known as the Malibu Country Mart. It's changed a few hands in its 40 years of business, but the sandwich menu has kept to the same standards of freshness and goodness the whole time. Every regular has their favorite, and ours is the Surfer Princessâa perfect turkey-on-wheat piled high with sprouts, avocado salad, and Vegenaise. It pairs well with the coconut-macadamia-chocolate-chip cookie. You can grab a seat by the swings so the kids can play through lunch. Blue Plate Oysterette
Seafood restaurant · Santa Monica
"The emphasis here is on healthy comfort food, which means that it hits all the bases for kidsâthere's chicken tenders, there's grilled cheese, there's quesadillas, pasta, and turkey hot dogs. There's even a pint-sized protein plate if your little one only eats cucumbers and cheese."
Poolside Cabanas at Viceroy Santa Monica
Event venue · Ocean Park
"Sure, Shutters and Casa Del Mar are right on the beach, but the Viceroy is just steps away: That, and the fact that itâs cheaper and has a much better pool scene (Shutters and Casa del Mar had to elevate theirs, since they couldnât drop them into the beach) make this a better pick for little kids."
Barnsdall Art Park
Park · East Hollywood
"Overlooking the Hollywood Hills and crowned by Frank Lloyd Wright's Hollyhock House, built in the early â20s for oil heiress Aline Barnsdall, this park draws locals and tourists alike for art classes, outdoor movies, and Friday afternoon wine tastings."
Clementine
Restaurant · Westwood
"Clementine is a go-to for light, fresh breakfasts, salads, and a solid heat-at-home selectionâbut their build-your-own grilled cheese is actually one of their best offerings. For the last 15 years, grilled cheese month (April), has been marked by a grilled cheese-specific menu centered on a specific theme, like âCurds Against Humanityâ and âMelt the Vote.â Execution? Buttery, goo-ey, salty, and browned to perfection. The first outpost is located in Century City."
