Coolhaus in Culver City serves up whimsical ice cream sandwiches with inventive flavors like horchata snickerdoodle and crazy-good vegan options.
"Coolhaus started in 2009 as a humble food truck serving ice cream sandwiches wherever they could find a parking spot. Fast forward to now, and you can find their desserts in grocery stores from Santa Monica to Dubai. They're best known for cookie-plus-ice-cream combos like horchata and snickerdoodle, dirty mint chip, and birthday cake, but we've yet to try a flavor we didn't like. They've still got a truck roving around LA, so follow them on if you want to see where they pop up next." - Garrett Snyder
"Coolhaus makes handmade ice cream sandwiches in crazy (and crazy-good) combinations: Flavors like Beer & Pretzels and Milkshake & Fries are wedged between Chocolate Brownies with Maldon Sea Salt and Fruity Pebbles & Marshmallow. To make it even weirder (in a great way) they're served in edible, calorie-free wrappers. Oh, and there are options for vegans. They have locations in Culver City and Pasadena, along with four trucks, though you can always find their treats at Whole Foods."
"The Coolhaus Shop, Culver City. Our minds were blown the first time we tried the Coolhaus Truck. They’ve since opened this brick & mortar in the middle of the Culver's Arts District. You can grab a “cool house” Farchitecture (Food + Architecture) cookie sandwich or a simple scoop of their unique ice cream. The countless cookie/ice cream combos can be a little overwhelming, but trust us, you’ll enjoy whatever choice you make. If you’re not in LA, don’t worry. These bad boys are now packaged and sold nationwide in most markets."
"The rise of beloved ice cream company Coolhaus is not unlike its fellow artisanal ice cream brands — one where local support and fervor in Los Angeles was so high that operations expanded from a single truck to a brick-and-mortar scoop shop, trucks in other cities like New York and Dallas, and eventually a strong retail presence, from supermarket chains like Publix to the chest freezer at your nearest bodega." - Patty Diez
"Los Angeles–based Coolhaus ships its ice cream sandwiches and pints nationwide with free ground shipping or $30 next-day air delivery depending on where you live. Build your own six-pack of ice cream sandwiches or pints, or go for a prepackaged bundle with a mix of the two. Look for new flavors like Queens’ Coffee, made with Allegro Coffee’s Three Queens blend, and Take the Cannoli, a mix of Italian mascarpone ice cream with chocolate-covered cannoli shells. Lactose averse fans take note: It offers a variety of dairy-free flavors like mocha marcona almond fudge and horchata." - Lyndsey Matthews
