They keep a great comfortable atmosphere that’s totally approachable but still on trend. The upstairs is filled with great stuff for the home from unique wine glasses to soothing bath soaps. Plus it’s next to Turtle Bread! Baked sweets and good clothes, what more could you need."

"Victory Vintage, Linden Hills. Victory is a shop that feels like old elegance. It’s an antique and gift shop with refined design taste and it's easy to browse if you stop in. Great mixes of timeless classics and super funky accents. A home goods dream for designers (and the glass of Prosecco as you walk through the door is any wanderers dream too). I love that you can also have the ladies at Victory do home styling for you too, if your pieces aren’t coming together just right they can save your shelves. Brilliant!"

"Wild Rumpus, Linden Hills. Far before I lived in Linden Hills, over 20 years ago my mom would drive me across town just to visit Wild Rumpus, the "animal bookshop". It’s as magical now as it was to my child’s mind, then. Its a wonderland of curiosity and learning, where the outdoors comes indoors, with animals wandering the aisles along side you. Whether you join through the 4ft kids entrance or the standard adult doorframe, there is always something to find and crowds of little kids roaming for their next adventure in a book. A class act if there ever was one."

"Zumbro Cafe, Linden Hills. Zumbro’s website says they’re legendary and what’s great, is that they actually are. Well lit, family friendly, cheery and always busy. It’s the kind of place where you show up at work on Monday, mention having brunch there over the weekend and everyone’s like “Oooh did you have the pancakes or eggs benny?” It’s just a known thing. It’s that good. Speaking of pancakes or eggs, both are solid options. Though my personal favorite that keeps me coming back is the rhubarb french toast. Now that is something to write home about."

"Sebastian Joe's, Linden Hills. Homemade ice-cream shop, and the best in town. Sebastian Joe's makes unique flavors of ice cream from scratch with all natural ingredients - google the list of flavors, it’s beyond comprehension for ice cream lovers. That, in combination with a big garage door for open air seating and a tucked away patio that has live music in the summer, is tough to top. It’s a must try."

"Brown and Greene, Linden Hills. Few things feel as good as walking into a flower shop. It’s the smells, the color, the inspiration. Brown and Greene is a perfectly curated shop. It has everything you’d need to plant a succulent garden or bring your bestie some fresh tulips and a cute letter-pressed card for a house warming. They carry local and national products and stationers from here to Timbuktu, it’s amazing. And it's my favorite stop for a tasteful treat that’s not sugar."

"Harriet Brasserie, Linden Hills. This neighborhood bar and restaurant is one of those places that's on everyone's every list. Brunch? Dinner? Drinks? It’s a winner in all categories. Our favorite is for dinner because the gnocchi is a mouth watering reason to get to this low key hang out at least every few weeks just to make sure we still love it. And we’re proven right every time - never met a dish we haven’t gone speechless for. Love that it’s calm and easy to lose track of time while you visit."

"Hunt & Gather, Linden Hills. Prepare to be over stimulated. Hunt & Gather is packed to the brim with treasures. For everyone, literally. It’s the best of old meets new, an antique store meets trendy gift cards and books. You can find anything from vintage school posters, retro furniture, watch faces and records, to antlers, cacti, and cake stands. I am yet to see the same things twice – it’s ever-changing and always worth the gander."

"Tilia, Linden Hills. Tilia is my favorite restaurant in all of Minneapolis. It has an energy and buzz and coziness you can’t find anywhere else. The menu is creative and absolutely delicious whether it’s a carrot cake donut at brunch or chicken presse in the evening. It’s always busy, any night of the week – so plan to come and wait at the bar sipping a glass of wine or one of their ever-changing taps while you wait for a table. Most nights we don’t even get there until 11ish and stay until they close ‘er down visiting with the bartenders."

Their small plates are a great option for sharing and trying a variety of food they offer. Huevos rancheros (runny eggs and avocado galore) and, if you're lucky, their cardamom cinnamon roll."

The front of the shop is filled with genuine Asian artifacts and furnishings while the back of the shop houses their wellness center that offers various types of yoga and massages. While I can't speak for the yoga, the massages I have had at Jeromeo were exquisite. The resident shop dog, Onya keeps watch over the place and, as I discovered, is very camera shy."

The food is incredible and the menu lists suggested beer pairings for most items. If you want the ultimate Surly experience, head up to The Brewer's Table where you can get a 4 course meal of chef/brewer pairings. Take advantage of MN summers by hanging out on their massive patio or hop on a tour to get a behind the scenes peek. By the time you leave you'll want to hit-up the store for some Surly merch."

Maybe you've got a reptile friend that needs some new decor, maybe you're looking for a new amphibious roommate, either way, they've got you covered. Most of the furnishings are products of local design businesses such as: Loll, Intectural, Blu Dot, & Hennepin Made. If you're in the mood for a treat (the baked goods are from Rustica!) we highly recommend the currant scone."

"Hampden Park Co-op, St Anthony Park by Studio On Fire. Forgot your lunch? Need a snack? Trying to decide what's for dinner? Head right on over to the Hampden Park Co-op where you can load up on organic produce while trying to avoid the vast cheese display (you might as well just go pick some out now, you're not going to get out without buying any). Soups, hot food, and brewed coffee are available if you need to cure immediate hunger pangs. Other things to note: the kombucha and chocolate selections are both on point, not to mention the bulk spice area is particularly adorable. (ps:there is an actual park right across the street, so might we suggest a picnic?)"

Be sure to try the falafel "stoplight," giving you a taste of each of their signature falafel flavors (traditional chickpea, beet, and curry). The Foxy food truck can also be spotted around town during the less frigid months."

Located right on University Avenue, one of the best parts of Agharta Records is their incredibly up-to-date Facebook page that announces the "fresh arrivals" as records become available (both new and used). The shop is expertly organized and it's nearly impossible to not get sucked into the Dig Room to scour the $1 section. Tees, books, and other music related goods can be found amongst all the vinyl."

"Bang Brewing, St Anthony Park by Studio On Fire. There's no signage, but you'll know you're in the right place when you find a one story stainless steel grain bin in the middle of the city. Started by a husband and wife team (who can usually be found manning the taps) this brewery touts organic brews with locally sourced ingredients. Plenty of street parking is available, including a massive bike rack, so be sure to take advantage of their patio during the warmer months when they are often visited by organic food trucks."

The space has nooks and crannies where you can share an intimate conversation over a great cappuccino, or a iced latte underneath one of their patio umbrellas. The staff are pros and you'll always get the perfect cup. Spyhouse also roasts their own coffee here in Minneapolis, so you'll be enjoying several layers of craftsmanship and care in your cup. Their Nicollet Avenue location is one of their few shops that has local artwork hanging -- often showcasing contemporary local artists. In the warm months, the patio is bustling with conversation and you can mingle outside on the walk with the local sparrows. Uptown Tattoo is an incredible place to meet face to face with some of Minneapolis's most talented draftsmen. Metal plays in the background, and the red walls are covered with detailed drawings of mythological creatures, angels and beasts. The work here is all custom, and the waiting list for some artists is relatively long, but the talent here overfloweth, and is definitely worth the wait."

The Minneapolis Institute of Art also has a huge collection of work from various areas around the globe, and offers incredible resources for learning more about the content within the walls of the museum. The curation really is is top-notch. Be sure to walk the grounds and visit the sculptures outside, and around the back of the building as well. There is a serene little area where a person can take in a breath of fresh air between trips to see the masterpieces. If you are able to catch one of the MAEP exhibitions, you're in for a treat! The Minnesota Artists Exhibition Program allows visitors a chance to see a completely different side of the Mia through new exhibitions of all contemporary Minnesota artists work."

"The Bad Waitress, Whittier by Light Grey Art Lab. If you are a sucker for a seasonal berry-laden pancake at twilight and a malt to wash it down, this is the place for you. Not only does the Bad Waitress offer some updated American favorites, but it has a full espresso and coffee bar offering for those that are on the go. The decor is bright, pulpy, and energetic -- with superhero tags on every table and vintage movie posters adorning the walls. There is a jukebox in the center of the dining room where you can plug and play your favorite 80s ballads. Just remember that here, you order at the register, not at the table. It's nestled into the main drag on Nicollet Avenue and is one of the only gift shops in the area. Many of the greeting cards and paper goods are made on-site, too, which means that you'll definitely find a ton of unique items here. Greater Goods is also an advocate for giving back. A percentage of their sales goes to assisting great non-profit endeavors or organizations with a positive message. So when you give a gift from Greater Goods, you're actually giving back two-fold."

"Electric Fetus, Whittier by Light Grey Art Lab. With it's roots way back in the 60s, Electric Fetus is one of Minneapolis's long-standing counter-culture landmarks. It's name is hard to forget, and the smell of incense will remain in your clothes for hours after your leave, but it'll also leave quite an impression that Electric Fetus is more than just a music shop. Local musicians peruse the vinyl selection. Tickets for any number of shows are available at the counter. Listening stations are peppered throughout the space so you can really immerse yourself in the music. It's definitely a space you'll remember."

"Wedge Table, Whittier by Light Grey Art Lab. The Wedge Table moved in to the Whittier neighborhood and brought with it the best organic smoothies and fresh pressed juices in the universe. Behind the big counter, you can grab a bite from the deli, get a made-to-order soft serve shake, or a cup of soup and a burrito. Everything is tasty, accessible, and delicious. The space is open, airy and inviting, and it's easy to find a spot to sit and enjoy your meal. There is also a really beautiful community room available, where up to 25 people can get together for a meet-up over lunch or drinks. The Wedge Table is essentially a classy bodega -- it's got hot food, plenty of the basics, and all of it organic or sustainable."
