"Masu Sushi and Robata has three locations: Northeast Minneapolis, Mall of America, and Apple Valley. The restaurant was conceived in part by the owner of Sushi Avenue, a national purveyor of fresh fish — it sources its fish with an eye toward sustainability, following recommendations from the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program. Masu’s sushi menu is somewhat slimmer than other Twin Cities offerings, but its cocktail menu is extensive and grouped by pairings: light drinks for nigiri and sashimi, fruity for rolls and appetizers, and earthy for meat and noodle dishes." - Justine Jones, Eater Staff

I’ve written about this spot before. I can’t say enough great things about the experience from when you step foot into the establishment to leaving well content and satisfied!the quality of the seafood is as good as it’s going to get in MN. A smaller variety on the menu but the quality of each item makes up for it. The service is quick, knowledgeable and very friendly. This is yet another place where you will see regulars belly at the bar and are eager to chat with anyone else who is friendly. I love this place and I really hope Asan (the master chef) never retires!!!

Google
After a 2 day dusk visit I can safely say it is fast, friendly, and extremely worthwhile. Sit inside near the vintage Japanese Pachinko games, or out on the patio if you like, smoking is permitted though so be in mind not to get offended as it is a feature of the patio, I am not a smoker so at first I was slightly put off by this, but I was quickly reminded of better times when I would never be offended by such-and-such of this sort, the food..... nothing brings more focus than that. Food wise, amazing presentation and quality, for $1 each I had the pleasure of fresh Quail Eggs, again presented in a glass with proper garnish, delicious to the eyes and tongue. Highly recommended.

Google
Sushi on the belt delivery system with Robot giving drinks. Great for one time for someone that’s never seen the “show”. For “Quality Sushi “ 🍱 keep on looking as this is not it. Friendly Staff, Was in Mall of America so we quickly could get past this and enjoy shopping !

Google
This place was great. We had the firecracker rolls, the poke rolls, plus the shrimp tempura on a steamed bun and the pork belly ramen. Everything was amazing. The server was also very friendly and helpful. You will not be disappointed.

My lil sister was in town from ks and she’s vegan we came here on a whim and it was so good. They have their own lil vegan menu my sister was impressed she can’t wait to go back. Highly recommend if you want to try vegan Sushi. There whole menu sounds good.

Google
Only why I’m giving 4 stars is cause the price. Spent 100 bucks and wasn’t quite full. Ordered edamame, duck gyoza, miso soup, 3 orders of sashimi, a fire cracker roll. Even on happy hour it wasn’t fairly priced in my opinion.. Service was great and food tasted good but not worth the price!

Google
Nice place close to to campus. I came during lunch and the service was fast and friendly. The ramen was legit, and so was the sushi roll. I wasn't a fan of the tuna tataki, but then again I have ridiculously high standards for that. The spring rolls were OK, my friend got it without mushrooms, which I think would have made them awesome instead of just OK. I'll be back again when the mood for ramen strikes!

Google
It’s great to find a place that is open late, with great food and amazing service. After a long work day, I was super happy to find this restaurant. The portions are adequate. Quality over quantity. Will definitely add to my list for Minneapolis and will be back. さよなら!

Yelp
Food was great. Fresh, original and delicious. Service was excellent, friendly and knowledgeable. Ambiance was great, music playlist was awesome.

Yelp
When I moved into my new apartment back in December, my roommate's parents were kind enough to take me out for sushi at Masu so we could try some new restaurants in the neighborhood. (Also why I only have pics of the menu because I felt too awkward taking pics in front of them!) We ordered a huge set of different types of nigiri with a few different appetizers. All of the fish tasted extremely fresh, the selection of fish was nice, and they even have some other non-sushi options like ramen, etc. that I heard were all delicious, but I have yet to try! Of the food we ordered, my favorite were the salmon nigiri - they were so delicious. On top of all of this, they also have a huge selection of Japanese alcohols which my roommate and his parents loved. The atmosphere is great, the whole place is a little dimly lit, very romantic, and decorated with beautiful Japanese artwork and cultural pieces. The servers were all super very friendly, made some great recommendations for what to order in terms of both food and drink, and were very attentive with checking in on us. Overall great food and atmosphere that would be a perfect date night spot.

Yelp
Food, service and ambiance were good. We walked in close to closing time to place a to go order. No on was short or rude with us. Matter of fact, we striked up good conversation. Sorry I have no pictures for all of the food we ordered, but I'll go back to dine in and we'll have another go at it.

Yelp
Do not sleep on the yakisoba, best thing on the menu! Excellent flavor and not too spicy. The pork gyoza are great as well. There is a variety of seating options, indoors only. Baby friendly with high chairs available. Great service. There was a very small mistake in the order, the server was so apologetic and offered the steamed buns (nikuman) on the house, so sweet and thoughtful!

Gabby G.

Yelp
Great service. Great food. Great ambiance. A modern, open restaurant I visited with some coworkers recently. Located in NE Minneapolis, there's only street or ramp parking. I can't recommend the 'park MPLS' app enough for times like this to quickly find a street parking spot, pay and be on your way. Back to the food -- in a word, amazing. Paired with the plum wine was exactly the flavors I wanted for this dinner. Not pictured but ordered and enjoyed was a shrimp tempura roll, also amazing. Our server was so quick and efficient and friendly and professional. A great spot for a casual dinner with friends or a celebratory outing!

Tiffany Y.

Yelp
I ordered the spicy pork belly ramen and enjoyed the taste, presentation, and large portion size!

Yannis A.

Yelp
This is a very nice, hip restaurant that offers a nice menu of Japanese dishes plus a limited menu of sushi rolls, nigiri and sashimi. We ordered almost every roll in the menu; it was 4 of us and we have her our budget and she went to the chef to order what he thought was good! All choices were amazing, spicy or non spicy rolls, tuna/albacore/salmon/escolar nigiri, fantastic! Service was impeccable, I highly recommend the pre-arranged sale flights. I ordered (on the recommendation of the server whom I told I don't like very dry sake but I didn't want the all nigori flight since I have had nigori many times); she recommended the one pictured and it was perfect!! Great service, food was awesome, would definitely go there again. This restaurant deserves way more than its average 3.5 star-rating!

Yelp
The saké was the best part of the meal. I came here hoping for some good quality sushi, especially ootoro, but they did not have that on the menu. The quality of the fish wasn't near what it should be for the price. Pretty disappointing. The duck gyoza was very good. And I enjoyed the pork belly skewers, though $10 for a single skewer is a bit asinine. Though not pictured, I ordered the bacon wrapped quail eggs as well and it was delicious. The waitress was very kind and pleasant, she made it a good dining experience. I'd go back for some more alcohol and to try the ramen. Just not for the sushi.

Kray T.

Yelp
My favorite dishes are Tomkatsu curry, and Yakisoba. But Masu roll will be the best taste ever. Service is quite friendly.

Pa V.

Yelp
I really like sushi and seafood is one of my favorites but I'm just not a fan of Masu. There really wasnt anything special and tbh I have tried this place multiple times and every time it has been empty...maybe that is a sign. I've been to both locations (here and at the Mall of America) and here is how I feel about both: MOA location- smaller but still nice atmosphere, friendly staff, menu seems smaller, food was ok Minneapolis location- bigger and more spacious, very minimal staff interaction, happy hour, food was better here but still not great Overall, I think the sushi game in Mpls has really gotten better so Masu falls short for me.

Ryan P.

Yelp
Sushi was decent, drinks were good, but the service was horrible and overall for the price we really expected a lot more. We went on a weekend for dinner and the place was pretty dead which should have been a sign. Waitress barely came over despite the fact that we were one of the only tables in the place, and she spent a lot of time chatting with staff and her other table so I guess it was just us she wanted to avoid? There's probably better sushi places around. If you want some fun drinks maybe go here and just sit at the bar and have the tip go to the bartender.

Andrew S.

Yelp
This actually wasn't my first selected downtown Minneapolis restaurant but the first one only had patio dining and the wind picked up, creating a poor outdoor environment for eating outside today. This was the 2nd pick, having both indoor and outdoor dining options. Street parking or a parking garage are the options but you only get 2 hours using the automated pay box for street parking. The chicken teriyaki donburi bowl containing mushrooms, rice, kimchee, and chicken pieces with a poached egg. The taste was fine but nothing spectacular. Service was good and if I ever return, I would order the ramen noodles.

Eli H.

Yelp
I love getting ramen here! I'd say it's one of the better places to get ramen in the Twin Cities. I usually get the pork belly ramen and it has a good amount of meat in there. My husband gets the tonkatsu curry ramen and he loves that. We have also tried the sushi and the fish tastes really fresh but the prices are pretty steep on the sushi.

Jenny X.

Yelp
My husband loved this place, the service was amazing, atmosphere is trendy & comfortable. $20 for ramen is outrageous tho lol I'd never pay for that again, it's bland even when I got the spicy broth. It's ok for what it is but if I came back I definitely would not get the ramen. Everything else was great! The roll tasted very fresh & crunchy.

Joe A.

Yelp
Get the sushi Get the steamed buns Get the yakisoba You won't regret it Great spot, low key, great service

Sarah A.

Yelp
Yummy. Sweet staff. Food is great and fresh. The cucumber salad comes also with seaweed. Flavorful and well executed. Umami!

Genesis M.

Yelp
This is one of my go to places for sushi mainly because of the dessert. I ended up trying the shrimp tempura in a steamed bun & it was delicious! the texture of the bun was soft & the spicy mayo sauce in it was so good. I'm not much of a spicy eater but it was delicious & not too spicy. I ended up ordered a BLT roll that had salmon, basil, & tomato. First time trying it & it was refreshing! The main reason I come here is for their GREEN TEA ICE CREAM! Incredibly silky, & delicious never ever had ice cream this delicious. Definitely try it out & mochi is incredible as well. The down side is that it's hard to find parking & might have to park a couple blocks away but other than that the place is aesthetically pretty & would recommend sitting at the bar.

Kaverne A J L.

Yelp
No more having to go all the way to MOA with this branch in town and the standard is just as good.

Ivan H.

Yelp
One of the only reputable places to enjoy a nice sushi meal, we ordered quite a few things from here to try out. Service was excellent from our server and the food came out nice and hit the marks on taste too. Presentation and flavors were thoroughly enjoyed. We ordered: Karage $8.00 Shrimp Spring Roll $6.50 Masa Roll $17.00 Spicy Tuna Roll $9.50 Firecracker Roll $16.50 Pork Belly Ramen $14.00 Bun Katsu $10.50 All worthy of another visit for all the great options listed above and many more we couldn't order this time. Favorite of the bunch...The Masa Roll with great plating and even better tasting too.

Megan P.

Yelp
the food was good, the ambiance and the service was good, but nothing else was. my mom and i got two rolls, and they were very small rolls with only about 6 sushi pieces per person. we also got 4 dumplings, and they were pretty small. we spent $55 for food that barely filled us up. the waitress was also pushing us to buy more food, which we didn't like either. the food came out relatively fast, but that's just about the only good thing about this place. it is not worth the money. save your money and get different food.

Deanie H.

Yelp
The Yakisoba noodles were sooo amazing. The ginger sauce it comes with is so flavorful and it's a nice size portion. Also had the pork belly steamed buns which were perfect. I wasn't too impressed with the sushi though. There was lettuce in a spicy tuna roll which seemed weird. It was more spicy than flavorful and the tuna just didn't seem the freshest. Service was great and our server brought us a round of comp sake since she saw our group was getting ready to go out. Overall a fun time and would go back for those noodles

Gabrielle W.

Yelp
the worst they never like to pick up the phone unprofessional don't go here I tried to call multiple times

Joanne E.

Yelp
Looks beautiful and delicious. Doesn't taste nearly as good as it looks. Only really enjoyed the steamed pork bun, it was pretty good. The peach shochu gummi was the best part of the meal. The Tamago wasn't very good (my go-to Nigiri). The Donburi rice bowl was a total let down. And the waitress' response to my saying it wasn't great was "Ok!" Overall a let down and a bummer.

Keely S.

Yelp
Every time I go to Masu, I am so blown away by how great of a place it is. The service is always excellent, the decor and atmosphere is fun, and the food is high-quality at the very least. My favorite go-to drink is the Double Precious and you absolutely cannot go wrong with the veggie spring rolls of the Veggie Power sushi roll. At my most recent visit, I ordered the Tofu Agedashi special and it was a lovely dish. By far one of my favorite restaurants in Minneapolis and the NE area.

GG L.

Yelp
Went in on a Friday evening about an hour after they had just opened. Didn't know if they were requiring reservations due to the pandemic or not but was luckily able to make reservations online since they weren't open until 4pm. The place was not busy at all when we arrived and the atmosphere was calm and not noisy or overpowered with music. I ordered the Pork Belly Ramen with the Spicy broth (3/5). I liked how the seaweeds were flakes and not a whole seaweed paper. The Pork Belly was nicely tendered. The noodles were very authentic. Everything about the dish was good except for the broth. I didn't enjoy the broth much. There was a sweetness to it. It seem like the broth was made like a tomato soup but with sirarcha. My date ordered the Yakisoba noodles (3/5). The noodles felt more rubbery in his dish. There was a high amount of oil and mayo in his dish. He also ordered the spicy tuna (4/5). It had the perfect balance of rice with the fillings but the spice wasn't really present. Overall the place was great, staffs were friendly, the decors were lovely but its just not my cup of tea to return.

Simon B.

Yelp
Very fun and interesting menu! It sounds like they have a slimmed down menu for covid, but I kind of wish more midwestern sushi places would aim for smaller menus like this and focus on what they do really well. I love tempura shrimp and mayo based rolls as much as the next Minnesotan (and you can get that here), but this was much more well thought out and exciting. A real specials menu! Charred shishito peppers, bacon wrapped quail eggs, multiple actually good veggie roll options! We were super impressed by the drinks as well! My only negative critique is the sound system is so comically bad it's a bit distracting. Gwen Stefani sounded like she was drowning in the other room. Sorry Gwen!

Connie D.

Yelp
I've always been a fan of Masu's happy hour, but I usually go to the one inside the Mall of America because ya know, free parking, the restaurant is roomier, the booths are comfy and you don't feel cramped and forced listening to the conversation at the next table that's 2 feet away. We arrived for happy hour on a Friday evening, so it was busy as expected. I forgot how small the high top tables are and the minimal table space available. I didn't even have to look at that menu because I already knew what I wanted. I'm one of those people who has my order preselected even before stepping foot into a restaurant . Our server came over to us promptly after being seated and took our orders efficiently. We ordered the dynamite roll, firecracker roll, pork belly ramen, and tonkatsu curry ramen. Our sushi came out first and arrived looking fresh and presentable. Both rolls had some spice to them but nothing we couldn't handle. I appreciated the crunch from the veggies/tempura to compliment the rest of the roll. They were that perfect little appetizer to our ramen. I like the ramen from Masu, although not my all time favorite, it still satisfies my ramen craving. Both bowls had rich, savory broth, despite not being as hot (temperature-wise) as it should have been. The toppings included an egg, seaweed, scallions and protein. The tonkatsu came with chicken and the pork belly had that and some fish cakes included. The tonkatsu ramen was pretty unique as this is the only place I've seen offer a curry ramen. I expected a thicker broth but it was thin like normal and had a subtle curry flavor. Both were delicious, but I prefer the pork belly ramen to the curry one. Overall, good food, good service, cramped and uncomfortable seating.

Randy K.

Yelp
4 of us went for sushi and teriyaki. The sushi was good, a bit pricey. My wife's teriyaki rice bowl was OK. Our server was friendly. However, if noise bothers you in a restaurant, don't go here. Even after I asked to have the "music" turned down, it was still noisy enough to interfere with conversations. I will not be going back. There are plenty of other sushi/Japanese restaurants with good food AND a less noisy environment.

Andre H.

Yelp
Very high quality fresh sushi. I love their pork belly buns, I can't get enough of them. I don't think you can go wrong with anything here honestly.

Manie P.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Wish they had more variety for sushi but really enjoyed the firecracker roll and the poke roll. The steam buns was fun to try as well. I had the tempura fried steam bun, I love the spicy Mayo on it. Server was informative and friendly. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and would definitely recommend this place. Next time I was to try the ramen on the menu.

Kelsie D.

Yelp
I have always loved Masu! Great service and simple, authentic sushi! Their Japanese noodles are amazing; filled with veggies. So impressed with how beautiful and well put together my take away box was of sushi last time I picked up dinner. The sliced strawberry was such a nice touch. Always a return customer :)

Justine D.

Yelp
Stopped by after church one day and the place was cozy and they were able to seat us right away. The ramen bowls my boyfriend and I ordered were delicious, with just the right amount of meat, soup and noodle ratio. Unfortunately the sushi - tuna roll we ordered, was so small, we vacuumed it all up in 2 bites. They tasted average, and were overpriced at $9.00 a roll. The customer service was ok - our waitress was nice but only checked up on us 1 time throughout our meal. I would suggest it to a friend, but only if it's pay day!

Sue S.

Yelp
I've been to the Masu at the mall, but this was my first trip to this location. Atmosphere-wise, I liked it better. It is a bigger, more-relaxed setting than the mall restaurant. The food was good -- nice and fresh. Everything we had was well-made. But I guess this just boils down to Masu is not my favorite sushi place in the area. We ordered the age dashi tofu, which was good but not as good as the age dashi at Origami. This tofu came to the table with a little pitcher of sauce, which our server poured over tableside. It was good but not enough sauce. And the coating on the tofu was good but really hard and crunchy. I guess I just prefer the age dashi at Origami better. Whatever. The standout thing we ordered was the pork belly buns. Man, those things were killer. With a hoisin type sauce and copious amounts of delicious pork belly, I should have just ordered two of those and skipped the tofu. Sushi-wise, we got the California roll, which was fine, the Poke roll, which was pretty good and the 5 Seasons roll, which was good but I really could have done without the spicy hot sauce on the top. I ended up wiping a lot of the sauce off to make it more palatable. Service was OK but not great. A little slow at times. For some reason, it took forever to get drinks delivered to the table. Would we come back? Certainly. Would I order differently? Yes. Would I pick Origami over Masu? Every day of the week.

Rachel L.

Yelp
First and foremost, outstanding service as well as excellent food. I was looking for a cute lunch spot with my friend, and we found it! The restaurant is a little dated inside (otherwise 5 stars).

John P.

Yelp
great!!! service and food always excellent plus design cool almost like being in japan try to sit at bar most fun

Bonnie N.

Yelp
A couple of my friends and I came here to grab late night sushi. Our waiter seemed a little annoyed of us at first but he seemed to perk right up after we started ordering a bunch of drinks and food. Maybe it was a long day for him but either way he probably could have made the initial experience a little better. This was my first time coming to this location. There was ample parking and the restaurant was very inviting and comfortable. I loved the decor. We were quite hungry and since it was after 10pm, we had to order off the Late-Night menu. There was a pretty big selection for Late night. We ordered Sake, Miso Soup, Pork Belly Steamed Buns, Okonomyaki Tots, Sesame Green Beans, Tsukenmono, Sake (Sashimi), Masago (Nigiri), Crunchy Spicy Salmon Roll & Firecracker Roll. All of the food was good and the sushi was fresh! I wouldn't say that I ABSOLUTELY loved any of the dishes though. The flavors were pretty mild. I would definitely come back and try food off the regular menu.

Sokim V.

Yelp
Service was great! We waited to be seated for sometime although there were a third of the tables available. Approximately after 15 minutes, the host seated us at a high top in the bar. Our server was busy but still hospitable and very attentive. He seemed to be readily available and checked on us just at the right times. Food was not of similar taste as ive had at other sushi restaurants. I can only say this of the items I ordered: Agadashe Tofu: texture on the outside was thin and crispy but the inside was less firm and appeared milky, the sauce and garnishment were tasty! Sake Sashimi: they were layered over lemon slices which overpowered the real taste of fresh salmon Spicy Tuna Roll: inside the tuna was extra bright red but appeared yum. The carrot in it was either pickled or doused in some sort of sauce as it wasn't regular carrot taste. My daughter had: Sea Urchin(Masu Special): she liked it both with and without soy sauce Duck Gyoza: she liked this too! She described it as a different texture of meat (of course) where she was able to tell the fatty and lean meat she bit into. Tankatsu Curry: there was a big slab of crispy pork which took over a third of her plate, the assortment of vegetables and egg were neatly laid out. She enjoyed the flavor and how cooked the noodles were as they were just right! Not under or overcooked! All in all, it was a nice dinner. I won't order the same food again, but I'll def stop by to taste other foods and maybe next time I'll call in ahead.

Cocoa W.

Yelp
Great service, fancy interior design. The pork ramen was okay, but a bit pricy in my opinion, probably won't visit again.

Queenie C.

Yelp
We came here because the ratings seemed okay - and a few websites had said this is one of the better places for sushi in Minneapolis so we decided to give it a try. We didn't wait for a dining table and sat at the bar instead. ambience and atmosphere for this place seems okay. we ordered the tuna tartar and their firecracker roll along with a bowl of pork belly ramen noodles. the tuna tartar came relatively quickly - however although seared, the tuna was quite dry, and it was like 5 slivers for 10 dollars US - not worth it in my opinion. and it's not that i don't mind paying for it (coz i've spent $$ at japanese restaurants before) but in this case I ddin't think it was worth the 10 dollars. The firecracker roll was good - it was a mix of sashimi and dynamite roll with a spicy sauce. it's 18 bucks for the roll... but compared to a relatively similar price to a specialty roll at a restaurant like Miku or even Mi-Ne in Toronto it's def. not quite there. The pork belly... delicious!! probably the highlight of the evening. the belly just melts in your mouth, and it was amazing. However, their noodles on the other hand... was horrible. they clumped together and the texture just isn't the same as something one would serve at a ramen restaurant. So unfortunately I coudl'tn give a better rating on this bowl of noodles either. the broth was also not very good, just salty, and that's about it. On top of that, after the tuna tartar came about 10 mins of sitting in and ordering, the other two items did not come until over 45 mins later. it was a little ridiculous with the time and our waitress was very nice about and took off the tartar from our bill and apologized for the time delay. Anyway, it was an interesting experience. it wasn't the best, but it definitely was not that great either. But if you have a craving for sushi in the area, it could be a place to consider, just don't expect it to be super amazing.

Alice M.

Yelp
I loooove Masu. The main reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because the price point seems a bit inflated-- but that's a great reason to get over there for happy hour and save a couple bucks! I don't really eat sushi, especially here in MN, but if I did I would choose Masu. It never smells fishy in there and the rolls I've sampled were tasty. I do think they have the best ramen in town-- their tonkatsu curry ramen really is to die for. I miss when they had the curry udon on the menu as that was bomb too. The other item that I looove are the shrimp tempura buns. You can order them by the piece at happy hour or in orders of 3 during dinner. I have also really enjoyed all the others apps that I've sampled-- gyoza, spring rolls, etc. I wouldn't recommend their cocktail menu as the ones I've tried are really sweet, but they have a good sake and Japanese beer selection.

Mandy C.

Yelp
Masu has a fun vibe and the Sushi Rolls are always pretty good but my review has a one track mind. I'm strictly here to talk about Eggplant. Masu has a dish called Sweet Miso Eggplant which blows my mind. It's not only the best Eggplant dish I have ever had but one the most well put together dishes I have ever eaten in general. If you put Prime Rib, Lobster and Sweet Miso Eggplant in front of me (Yes I am a Carnivore) and told me I could choose just one, I promise you I'd choose the Eggplant. Even if you don't like Eggplant, you'll love this dish. It will change your mind and you'll fall instantly in love. It's Japanese Eggplant, Miso Glaze, Served with a Poached Egg, Thin Julienned Scallions and Thin Sliced Jalapenos. These flavors go together extraordinarily well. Take my word for it and you'll thank me later. This dish will blow your dang mind!

Yelp
I came here on a Sunday night to celebrate my father's birthday and to satisfy my Ramen craving. I was immediately surprised right as I walked through the door at how dimly lit the entirety of the restaurant was, and the black furniture of the restaurant further accentuated the dark environment. In addition, the disco type music was played at an uncomfortably loud volume where you had to strain to hear the person sitting right next to you and there seemed to be an extreme surplus of staff who hovered constantly throughout the meal. However, I was determined not to let the uninviting atmosphere from ruining the meal and celebration, and I kept an open mind about the restaurant I had heard so much about. We ordered: - Pork Belly Ramen (4/5 Stars) $14.5 : This ramen was surprisingly light yet flavorful with a miso like broth. It tasted as if the soup has been marinating for over a day, and I was pleasantly surprised by how well done the roasted pork shoulders were and the poached egg was unlike any other I have ever seen in terms of consistency and its ability to keep shape even after being punctured. - Tonkatsu Curry Ramen (4.5/5) $14.5 : Highly recommended by our server, I really enjoyed the curry ramen, which I had reservations about because of how counter intuitive combining ramen and curry sound. The barely palpable curry flavor perfectly complimented the savory broth and provided a great kick to the ramen without it tasting too spicy. The crispy pork somehow still tasted crispy despite the fact that it was submerged in the soup. - Tempura (3/5) $11: The shrimp tempura dish was a little bit misleading in the fact that there were 3 pieces of shrimp total and an assortment of tempura vegetables such as squash and zucchini. Overall, the tempura dish was solid and tasted exactly what you would expect, but it left you wishing there was a better shrimp to vegetable ratio and it was difficult to finish because of how large and how many fried vegetables that were included. Throughout our meal, I kept noticing how dirty the silverware and table was. My water glass had food stains all over it and when I asked for a new one, I got one with leftover lipstick stains on it. The bathrooms weren't that much better and you could literally feel the stickiness of the bathroom floor on the bottom of your shoes. Overall, the value of the food in terms of the decent portion sizes, higher price, and quality were solid. However, the overall experience was severely hampered by the overall cleanliness and atmosphere of the restaurant. It made me want to hurry up, eat and leave right away and next time, I'm interested to try some of the sushi options, most likely through a to-go order. TIP: Only get one order of Tempura and don't expect to want to linger long in the restaurant.

Yelp
Note: Writing Review from perspective of being a new vegan and having to try out all my favorite restaurants with a new lens. Pros: - If you ask they have a pretty extensive vegan menu! -options across noodles, sushi, and cold/hot apps. Cons: I ordered the veggie grasshopper. The roll is covered with crushed wasabi peas. Therefore, you have to absolutely looove that flavor which unfortunately didn't. However, the apps that I got were delish.

Yelp
Mixed review based on different dishes and quality of outdoor seating. First off - heads up that there is no cover or shade for their outdoor seating. The picture on their website with umbrellas must be a different location. It is a fine setup on part of the sidewalk overall. We really liked the duck gyoza (would even order multiple orders next time!), and the pork belly buns were tasty. Our favorite roll was the firecracker (they very kindle put the chili sauce on the side so it was less spicy). The five seasons roll was good, and the spicy tuna roll was fine.

Yelp
Service, service, service - or should I say, lack thereof. Cannot stress how important that is at any restaurant, as it truly makes or breaks the customer experience! Don't get me wrong, the food at Masu is not bad at all. I came here with my friend for dinner on a Sunday, and considering the fact that it was snowing out, we were surprised to see that the restaurant was relatively packed. I ordered miso soup, anago sashimi, and the firecracker roll, and my friend ordered the salmon sashimi and dynamite roll. Our food took SO LONG to come out, and our waitress was nowhere in sight for at least 80% of the time we were there! And they forgot my miso soup when we finally got our food. The sushi tasted decent, I did like my eel a lot, and my friend was also satisfied with her roll. We then decided we were still hungry and ordered the bacon wrapped dates to share. This took a good 20+ min to come out, and only came with three dates! Rip-off, much? All in all, the food is not bad but the service needs a LOT of work. Not sure if I'll be back.

Yelp
Worst takeout experience I've ever had. I live across the street and ordered takeout through DoorDash just before Masu opened (at 3:45pm). Used the order ahead feature and was given an eta of 4:35pm. At 4:35 I hadn't received any updates, so I called to check on it. Was told by the gentleman it would be another 30-35 minutes, even though it was supposed to be ready at that time. I called back 35 minutes later at 5:10 to check in again (still hadn't received any updates). Same guy answered the phone and told me the sushi was done, and they were just finishing up the gyoza, so it would be about 5 minutes. I showed up 15 minutes later (5:25pm) to pick it up, and was told by the lady at the host stand that she couldn't find it. She checked with the kitchen and found out they hadn't started it because "someone forgot about it." I don't even know where to start with my levels of frustration. It takes a special level of incompetence to answer two phone calls about an order that was completely forgotten about (a simple check with the kitchen either time would've taken care of it). The guy that I spoke to simply said "yeah that was my bad" when I asked for an explanation. Safe to say I won't be eating/ordering from Masu again.

Yelp
I'd save your money and go to another sushi spot in Minneapolis. The sushi is good but i would expect something spectacular for the price - portion sizes are pretty small here.

Yelp
Came here by recommendation of a friend and was pretty disappointed. Left here after eating very average sushi and disappointed by how much money I spent when I could have gone other places and paid less but been more satisfied with my overall experience. First, we got in and it took a while for a server to talk to us after the host seated us. It was around 12:30pm on a Friday for lunch, but wasn't terribly busy inside for the lack of attention we got. My friend and I ordered two sushi rolls to split-- The Firecracker roll and the spicy tuna roll with eel sauce on the side. It was a decent amount of food for lunch, so wasn't too filling but I could have eaten more. The wait for the sushi was longer than expected also since there were very few people dining at the time. The waitress who served us probably only checked in on us once during the entire time we were there which was disappointing considering it wasn't busy and our waters were getting low. Overall atmosphere was alright. I liked that it was on a corner with lots of natural light from the windows, but the decor didn't really add anything special to the ambiance. Wouldn't return here for sushi, but might try something else.

Yelp
Be prepared for the louder vibe with music and conversations from the crowd. If you can get past that, then the food is pretty decent. I'm not going to get into much detail, but rather a brief synopsis with the specific dishes we ordered (see pics attached) because we were quite full from a late lunch but somehow, we managed to order a large quantity of food and then miraculously made them disappear. This is what we ordered: Tofu Don- great veggie option with rice, sauce a little heavy but otherwise veggies cooked just right with enough crunch for texture Deckle- great flavor Chicken thigh- felt a little underdone because it was very tender. Sauce a little heavy but flavorful Pork belly- noms Short rib- melts in the mouth! Good crust, soft deliciousness Roasted Vegetable Ramen - Ramen had good spring, broth a tad on the sweet side. Edamame in the broth not needed but was in there Sashimi appetizer- fish was fresh, but the salmon had a fair amount of fat which was very "salmony" if you know what I mean.
