"The Linden Hills outpost of the beloved ice cream shop features a rotating selection of premium ice creams made by hand with all-natural ingredients.  The best-selling flavors are always on offer: salty caramel, Oreo, chocolate, vanilla, raspberry chocolate chip, Nicollet Avenue Pothole (a must for chocolate lovers), and Pavarotti (a delightful combination of caramel, banana, and chocolate chips).  Other flavors vary seasonally and often include a handful of dairy-free sorbets." - Joy Summers

"Homemade ice-cream shop, and the best in town. Sebastian Joe's makes unique flavors of ice cream from scratch with all natural ingredients - google the list of flavors, it’s beyond comprehension for ice cream lovers. That, in combination with a big garage door for open air seating and a tucked away patio that has live music in the summer, is tough to top. It’s a must try." - Whitney Hermes

Google
It's a cool place near the lake. It has a good selection of ice cream, and the flavors are good. I would go back, but they could use to keep the tables wiped off in the separate sitting area. It was a bunch of teenagers working. It appears to be a cool place to work.

Google
Delicious Strawberry Ice Cream Amidst Quiet Streets The strawberry ice cream here is absolutely delicious! 🍓 As a bonus, the ongoing road repairs mean fewer crowds, making it a quieter and more relaxing spot to enjoy your treat.

Elisa Lobo Neese

Google
The ice creams are delicious here! We tend to always get the same goodness: Pavarotti and the Raspberry with Chocolate. The newly remodeled shop is looking great!

Google
Great family my ice cream shop--offering loads of flavors bit also dairy free options that are not just sorbet! (Though they could use more...) The dairy free cookie dough ice cream is quite good and pictured below. they are super family friendly with a great outdoor space where you can sit outside and enjoy your ice cream. However just being a couple blocks off Lake Harriet it makes it a perfect stop off point as you circumnavigate the lake on your evening walk. Good customer service and close to all the little shops of Linden Hills.

Google
Such a good vibe. Love the local names and flavors of ice cream!! Wish they had more vegan options for dairy sensitive folks, and that they had more compostable cutlery and bowls.

Google
Sebastien Joe’s is such a great neighborhood ice cream joint. If the weather’s warm there’s always a line out the door. Great flavors; my favorite is the spicy Chocolate Coyote with cinnamon and cayenne. Kid fave, adult fave!

Google
Was honestly very disappointed with this ice cream shop. The girls behind the counter were rude. For two scoop waffle cones it cost almost $16. The ice cream was NOT that good- nothing special. The store was kind of cute with its fire place and seating area. I think this place is overrated.

Google
Nice little ice cream and coffee shop. Good quality ice cream. We tried the Bananas Foster and the Oreo. Both were good, the bananas foster was better.

Yelp
First time here. Really good choice of ice cream flavors. It's quite busy as it's a well known local popular ice cream spot. Nice patio seating and area to walk around and enjoy the sweetness

Yelp
As if we didn't eat enough dinner at Billy Sushi, we also had to celebrate a birthday with ice cream . . . Got a few bites in before I had to stop, and it was delicious! Counter service good and a big room for seating. Try it!

Michaela S.

Yelp
There wasn't really any dairy free, nut free, options that aren't sherbet. Ambiance is grab n go, small bistro style tables outside + inside. Service was nice. Good spot for all ages

Peter P.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place late looking to get my sweet tooth ice cream fix and wow this place rocked. Tons of options/flavors. The staff here were super nice and friendly, easy to find parking around. Has that old school small ice cream shop vibes and always love supporting local business. I got a scoop of Oreo which was nice and big and really good. Nice pieces of oreo and creamy ice cream. Great value for price. Will def be back

Yelp
Local chain serving up hose ice cream and a few baked goods. It's a cute, small store with a nice patio in the trendy Upton & 55th area of Linden Hills. The service has always been great and they've got a custom roast of coffee that is pretty decent. They rotate some of their flavors seasonally but have a bunch of your expected stuff. The main differences are that you can get a lot of them stuffed between 2 house cookies, in a dipped (or naked) cone, pressed in a brioche wrapper, or in an affogato. The quality is on par with the prices for the area so I think if you're out and about while looking for a sweet treat or quick lakeside breakfast it's a good spot.

Atta M.

Yelp
Few flavours but ice cream is good. I was surprised to know that I had to pay $6.85 for a regular cone. I understand the cost has gone up due to inflation but this is a ripoff.

Ellie B.

Yelp
Went here for the first time on a Friday evening! Really fun place and solid ice cream. I had a dish with two scoops of ice cream (salty caramel and pavarotti). My boyfriend got a raspberry chocolate chip milkshake. The milkshake was two times the price of my dish and he received it nearly half full. We were really disappointed and thought about saying something to the staff but they were super busy as it was a Friday.

Nahree K.

Yelp
Parking: plenty of street parking Service: delightful people who let you try all the flavors, seriously, don't be shy about it Food: flavors are so creative and cleverly named! My favorites were the Nicollet Pothole (chocolate and fudgey) and good old vanilla (rich flavor and perfect texture, with the occasional crunch of actual vanilla bean bursting in your mouth. Ambiance: call us crazy, but we sat outside in the patio in the snow, so seating was plentiful, haha!

Grace S.

Yelp
Everyone comes here expecting something satisfying & we come again and again & discover it is a reliable expectation to meet: sweet wish come true. That's what Sebastian Joes gives us: sweet wishes come true. It's as pretty & delicious as you put together what your inklings guide you towards. Yum.

Yelp
The ice cream is good. The chocolate dipped cone is great. The poor kids working don't seem to have efficiency down. I think they need a better system for ordering and payment. The line backs up quickly. I had the salted caramel in a cone dipped in chocolate. The chocolate on the cone is excellent, the salted caramel flavor is so lite, it's hard to even taste.my husband had a Chocolate malt. It was delicious but the kid filled the cup to the VERY brim and handed it to me with malt dripping down the sides. I was dripping malt on the floor the whole way out. Messy but tasty. Will try other ice cream flavors next time because it seems maybe salted caramel isn't why people go there

Yelp
Came during my boyfriend and I's little weekend trip for a Vikings game. Was looking for ice cream that was open kind of late, and we found Sebastian Joe's! Staff was very friendly and helpful in explaining everything. We got a banana split (I can't remember what flavors we got but I can remember they were DELICIOUS!!) Only thing we weren't crazy about was the whip cream, it wasn't sweet at all--but we have major sweet tooth's so--and texture wise it felt like it lined the top of my mouth, but it's all personal preference. Definitely would recommend and am looking forward to coming back!

Mikhala F.

Yelp
A local classic! This is THE spot in summer, especially with their new patio and lots of space to sit. I like to affectionally refer to them as Sebby J's - and if you haven't had a scoop of theirs yet, add it to your end of summer bucket list. Fresh, creamy ice cream with tons of toppings and flavors that often play off Twin Cuties spots and inside jokes (like the Nicollet Avenue Pothole). If you get the idea for a scoop on a perfect summer evening, be warned that others will have had this idea, too - this line gets pretty busy and can take a while to get through, and be sure to scope out a patio spot ahead of time. Prices are average if not slightly higher in comparison to other spots in the cuties, but the flavors are worth it! A Linden Hills favorite, perfect for after a dinner out.

Gennie L.

Yelp
If you go to Sebastian Joes, you must try the Oreo flavor - it tastes like no other Oreo flavors. I tried the raspberry chocolate chip flavor and it wasn't very good (there were hard raspberry chunks). The butterfinger cone was ok; next time I'll probably just get the chocolate dipped cone. The line was quite long - we had to wait 15 mins but I think it was worth it. There's a large patio with plenty of tables. Half of it is covered and the other half isn't. It is easily accessible by car. There's a parking lot near by with plenty of parking spots. Overall rating: 8/10

Nicole H.

Yelp
I am a hater! I know people love this place but I just didn't like much of anything. It's pretty small inside but luckily wasn't busy so not cramped when I visited. I thought it sucked that they didn't let you sample ice cream. Sounds like a COVID policy but umm if you don't require masks then giving people a chance to eat tiny bites of ice cream in the store isn't going to make it worse. The staff member wasn't terrible but definitely tired and not that friendly. However the cashier was pretty nice albeit awkward. I got a ice cream that sounded kind of good on a dipped cone with almonds on it. Yikes that cone was a bad idea - I hated the almonds on it tho like almonds in other dishes. The ice cream was okay. The seating was bad. There was an indoor area adjacent to the main ice cream shop but had no AC and it was 100 degrees outside so it was soo disgusting. There were some tables outside which were much more bearable.

Dan C.

Yelp
I have yet to find truly excellent ice cream in the twin cities, but Seb's comes pretty close. I have been to all the locations and their ice cream is solid. This location is probably our favorite as the staff is super freindly and there is plenty of room to seat my wife and me, the kids, and the strollers - and we aren't the only ones taking up space. There are always kiddos running around. I am a fan of the Nicollet pothole something or other, a chocolate-based ice cream with lots of chocolatey stuff mixed in. That said, I have tried a lot of flavors and I like the quality across the board. Also, I often get the regular sundae with whipped cream and it is just the right size - not too big that you regret getting it.

Amy Y.

Yelp
I can say I've had Sebastian Joe's both in the winter and summer, and it still slaps no matter the season! The flavors I've had are the raspberry chocolate chip and Oreo. If you think there's only one way to do Oreo ice cream, think again. It's creamy, chocolaty perfection in a big ol' scoop. If you're in the Twin Cities and looking for dessert, Sebastian Joe's is a staple that lives up to the hype. *Notes: -There is street parking for the Linden Hills location. -If you sit inside in the winter, there's a nice fireplace that is pretty warm!

Alyana S.

Yelp
I came here after getting some delicious Rosalia's pizza around the corner and Sebastian Joes never disappoint! I've only been to the one in uptown but this place had great service and amazing flavors that Sebastian Joes are known for! Definitely recommend visiting in this cute neighborhood!

Kris L.

Yelp
The flavors I had were a mixed experience, I liked the cantaloupe sorbet, it was actually very creamy for a sorbet and packed full of fruit; however the boysenberry with almonds was bland. Not a lot of fruit flavor and the slivers of almond really didn't go together. I have had better berry flavors in the specialty ice cream section of nice grocery stores. My husband had salted caramel and said it was fine but nothing special. They do have a nice patio area. If I come back I will stay with sorbets.

KJ O.

Yelp
The worst part about not working in Minneapolis anymore is that I can't stop in for the non dairy ice cream anymore, easily the highlight of my week. It's old school ice cream shop meets new flavors meets deliciousness.

Natalie W.

Yelp
Was looking for an ice cream shop around here and this one was recommend. The ice cream is okay. They all have slightly weird tastes but I think that's what makes it unique. I probably would not go back but it seems like there's many people that like their ice cream.

Phillip N.

Yelp
One of my favorite ice cream shops in the twin cities! I love the Pothole and Salted Caramel flavors. I do wish there were non-diary ice cream options that did not use coconut milk as the base. My partner does not like coconut and cannot have dairy. Overall still a great ice cream option with friendly staff and a clean environment!

Scott F.

Yelp
What is there to say.... one of the absolute best ice cream stops in Minnesota. There are multiple locations each has a different feel, the linden location is very cool and in such a fun neighborhood. Get some ice cream and enjoy - end of story

Akshay R.

Yelp
I loved the flavors I tried and this location has amazing sit out. A must visit place for a nice cold treat in summer. There Oreo flavor is one of the best I had. The service is quick and the line moves faster. They have a nice sit out where you can enjoy your ice cream. It's best to go during nights to enjoy the place and ice cream.

Yelp
Sebastian Joe's is a Linden Hills institution. I had not been there for awhile but went back with some of my extended family recently, including a grandson, and had a fantastic time. The only problem which keeps me away from Linden Hills is the parking. It is invariably a challenge to find a parking spot. However, what is the alternative ? A parking ramp certainly would destroy the neighborhood. We did find a parking space not too distant from Sebastian Joe's and had our ice cream on the terrace where dogs seem to be allowed. It was great. Ice cream is one of my favorites and Sebastian Joe's offerings are excellent. I would highly recommend.

Megan M.

Yelp
Love this place!!! Their ice cream is SO GOOD!!! Definitely a bit spendy, but worth it in my opinion. I've tried both their raspberry chocolate chip and vanilla flavors. Vanilla was alright, but the raspberry chocolate chip was AWESOME. So so flavorful and unique. I'd definitely recommend that flavor to anyone who goes and visits.

Christina P.

Yelp
Great place for ice cream with fun flavors and vegan options! Staff was quick to move a long line through, while still being helpful and friendly, thumbs-up to these hard workers!

Agnes N.

Yelp
For banana cake lovers try their banana flavor ice cream also their baked waffle cone is crunch but still soft at the same time you gotta try it

Zack G.

Yelp
Very solid ice cream spot with a ton of flavors, both original and unique (ex. Pavarotti and Nicolet Pothole)! Homemade cones, but they are very fragile and fall apart very easily. Both indoor and outdoor seating

Anika S.

Yelp
Sebastian Joe's is such a minneapolis classic and I'm always so satisfied when I go there. My major appeal to this place is that there's such a vast variety of flavors. Anything from classics to seasonal to funky flavors. I personally got a new favorite of mine, Nicollet Ave pothole. It's an amazing chocolate mix of caramel, Heath bar chunks, fudge truffles and fudge swirl with sea salt. It is very rich so I suggest being prepared for that. I normally get the raspberry chocolate chip which is also amazing. All flavors have consistently been creamy and flavorful. The ambiance of this location is great -- there's a solid sized patio area for sitting that can see the Main Street (Upton) but still feels a little reserved. Overall I recommend this place for all your ice cream dreams!

Alex J.

Yelp
I'm sadly not won over. The space is cute, the outdoor seating inviting. The service is on point, with team members ever patient as you try different flavors across the spectrum. The place is packed on this very warm and sunny spring day. I try several flavors, but I'm just not getting a single wow from the offerings. FKA Nicollet Pothole is sticky-sweet. Much as I'd heard raves about it on Yelp, I couldn't imagine a second bite, let alone an entire scoop. The Coffee Oreo has a high-strung coffee note. The Chocolate Biscotti and the Margherita aren't amazing, but their balance of flavors has me opting for that odd combo just to stop testing flavors and holding up the line. I agree that Sébastian Joe's offers a variety of unique flavor profiles. That said, I feel the company has missed an entire flavor segment. There's something to be said for mild, creamy flavors such as pistachio or butter pecan, or more exciting niche ones such as green tea or black sesame. I find the flavors offered here either common - hello, strawberry, chocolate, and so on - or unique, exciting, but imbalanced - typically on the heavy-handed side. Our culture is known for sugar overloads, so it's not all that strange really. And the popularity of the place certainly shows how we as a whole love our sugar. My Irishman ordered a FKA Nicollet Potholes double scoop. He regretted it by lick #4. Not bites. Licks. And this is the man who's only starting to become aware of sugar content in food he eats these days due to my cooking.

Rachel R.

Yelp
I found Sebastian Joe's on Yelp while in town for a wedding. The ice cream was really good, but extremely overpriced for an ice cream cone. It was almost $20 for the two of us. There is plenty of outdoor seating and a really nice patio. Parking is limited to a small lot and street parking.

Janice S.

Yelp
Dropped a friend off in Linden Hills and had a taste for a chocolate malt. Thought I'd try Sebastian Joe's vs. heading home towards Culver's. What a disappointment. Service was great; however, the result was lackluster. Sadly no malt flavor. The malt was very chocolatey, but filled with chewy icy bits. Worth the try, but Culver's still has my vote.

Brian R.

Yelp
Very tasty ice cream, one of our flavors was a bit too melty though. Several vegan options is why my friends brought us here. I had the raspberry chocolate chip, it was VERY good, highly recommend.

Kathryn E.

Yelp
I'd heard this place recommended several times and was excited to finally get to try Sebastian Joes!! I had really high hopes and expectations - I love ice cream! When we arrived there were about 20 people in line but thankfully, the line moved fairly quickly and we only waited about 20 minutes. It was hard to decide on a flavor and they are not letting you sample anything. The vanilla looked so good - like vanilla bean, but I didn't want to come to a new place and get vanilla - I wanted to try something original! I decided on Pavarotti - it has banana, chocolate and Caramel. I was hoping it would only have a hint of banana but no, it was like cold banana bread. I didn't enjoy it. I ordered it with a chocolate dipped cone and the cone was really hard. Again, not good. This one ice cream cone, that I didn't enjoy, cost me almost $7!! My husband got the Nicollet mudslide or something like that, based on the employees recommendation. Neither of us likes the ice cream. Way to overpowering. Can someone tell why this place is so popular? I need to know what to order? The best part was the outdoor seating. That was delightful.

Robert P.

Yelp
Eat here because the ice cream is delicious, not too trendy, not too over the top creative, just enough to enjoy the quality and the fun! Staff is very friendly and it's very clean.

Matthew C.

Yelp
Got two cones amongst my party - both ice creams reflected quality ingredients, genuine flavors, and a bit of creative flair. The line was 15ft out the door on a nice Saturday night, but it moved very quickly and everyone there seemed genuinely friendly. Super fun life size giant tortoise statues out back.

Susan P.

Yelp
Back in town for a visit. Had brunch across the street at Martina and HAD to have some Sebastian Joe's ice cream. Our party had raspberry chocolate chip (of course!), Pavarotti, and was hoping for some hot coyote (no such luck on that day). We enjoyed our cones or cups of ice cream near the fireplace in the attached cabin. This is truly one of the gems of Minneapolis. We did run Lake Harriet earlier in the day to ensure we earned our treat! #perfectday

Summer G.

Yelp
Sebastian Joe's is an ice cream spot I've heard SO much about from friends and coworkers who've visited their. Being the ice cream lover that I am, I was all about visiting one of their shops when my husband brought it up this past Saturday. We had to run errands close to their Linden Hills spot, so we decided to take a stop their and get some ice cream to help fuel the rest of our errands and activities. It's a quaint little ice cream shop, with folks casually sitting inside and outside enjoying their ice cream (and coffee!). I loved the fresh coffee roast smells from inside the shop, and the yummy smells of the ice cream flavors on hand. I'm pretty indecisive, so I especially appreciated that the staff didn't make me feel rude or annoying when I asked to sample three (3) different ice cream flavors that I potentially might get for my single scoop. Sample I tried: - White Orangina - Oreo - Pavarotti The White Orangina was refreshing, with light notes of orange and large chunks of biscuit cookies. So good! The Oreo was better than just regular Oreo ice cream, as it was filled with double (or triple!) the Oreo amount. If you have a liking for chocolate and need to have some kind of chocolate in your ice cream, but don't want it to be overbearing this is your flavor. The Pavarotti was caramels, banana and vanilla ice cream with chocolate chips. I love the sample of this, as it had the chocolate that I like in ice cream, while also having caramel and bananas. This is a flavor you normally don't get when you visit an ice cream shop! I ended up getting a single scoop of the Pavarotti, while my husband got the White Orangina. Unfortunately, I didn't end up finishing my ice cream as the more I ate the Pavarotti, the more I disliked the flavor as the banana became really overpowering. I did however really like the White Orangina flavor that my husband got, as it was full of biscuit cookies - soooo tasty. The experience of coming here wasn't quite what I had hoped for. I've had better experiences at ice cream shops, and enjoyed the ice cream much more. I didn't like that the single scoops are truly very small. They are the smallest serving single scoops that I've had to date at an ice cream shop and the staff that scooped ours didn't scoop very graciously- the scoops were very small and well inside our ice cream cup. I also didn't like how expensive it was for a single scoop that was so small. The ice cream was alright. I've had better. The flavor selection was creative, but the taste didn't match the creativity. Also, the expense for our single scoop ice creams in a cup was ridiculous. I'd likely never visit Sebastian Joe's again because of the expense in comparison to the amount we received. Staff needs to do a better job of being a bit more gracious with their scoops.

Antonette S.

Yelp
I LOVE ice cream. I tend to visit the best ice cream places whenever I visit/live in new cities. After going to about 6+ ice cream shops, I can say that Sebastian Joes is the best in the twin cities hands down! They have amazing daily made flavors and a great selection of vegan options. My friend and I loved this place so much that we had it 3 times in one week. The scoopers are always nice and also don't mind when you try a couple flavors (and trust me, you want to try multiple!) The Nicollet Avenue Pot Hole is really chocolatey- some might find it overwhelming but I don't! It's probably one of my favorite flavors, among the marionberry one. The dipped cones are also a must try! They use high quality dark chocolate and it instantly elevates your Instagram game.

Jack S.

Yelp
Love the Vegan Chocolate, one of the best around. I even gave some to my grandfather who is "skeptical" of vegan food and didn't tell him, needless to say he didn't even notice XD

Joanne P.

Yelp
Very chocolatey chocolate and yummy sorbet. Such a cute ice cream shop in the neighborhood with an outdoor space to sit and relax. The staff were nice and we will be back to try more of the many interesting flavors.

David R.

Yelp
Creative flavors plus a few classics. Thankfully, they let us taste several. In some cases, the delivery fell short of the promise (I'm looking at you, Oatmeal Raisin Cookie) but for the most part this stuff was delicious. Some of the names are kind of obscure, and for a newb it is awkward to have to keep asking "What is x?" But even the staff couldn't keep track and had to look up a few in a book! Chocolate cinnamon pretzel is worth returning for. Also, the outdoor patio seating.

Leslie M.

Yelp
A great spot to meet with friends and enjoy coffee and ice cream. A little too busy to peacefully study at but a great place to meet friends. Good wifi too. The lattes are delicious. I had one of the best Mexican mochas at Sebastian Joe's except they called it something else. The cayenne was present until the last drop and was a medium spice- absolutely perfect! The ice cream was in the top 3 for MN, and very similar to Cold Front. The flavors were solid and creamy texture. The pumpkin flavors were a bit less creamy though. I am not a chocolate lover but the "Pothole" flavor was fantastic! I had a handmade cone, which was crunchy and thicker than other waffle cones.

Lauren M.

Yelp
What! A! Find! We originally were going to another ice cream shop, but ended at this one, and I'm convinced it was destiny. With classics like chocolate, vanilla, etc. they also had fun ones like apple crisp and heath and keylime and oreo. I had the cinnamon chocolate pretzel and my life was changed--I whole heartedly recommend this one. It is also in a cute, up and coming area of town with a neat environment. I'm planning to go back to SJ's tomorrow. Big. Fan.

Kate K.

Yelp
Absolutely love this staple of the Linden Hills community. I've been here countless times over the years, and most recently rolled in on a Sunday evening with the hubs and the toddler in tow. I had a two scoop cone with Cockadoodle Blue (their newest flavor - so good!) and Nicollet Avenue Pothole, and the hubs had a sundae with Oreo and something else I can't remember. The kid sampled my cone, and then rebelled against bedtime with a hefty sugar rush. The only reason I can't give Sebastian Joe's five stars is the price. I dropped $15 on the two items mentioned above, which is a little steep for an ice cream run. By the time the kid is old enough to order her own, we'll be making a serious investment every time we go there. It is delicious though!

Caitlin M.

Yelp
Wonderful ice cream and waffle ones! Highly recommend the Nicolette Avenue Pothole ice cream! It will satisfy your deepest chocolate cravings.

Heather K.

Yelp
Best treats of Minneapolis. Unique selection of ice cream and a large patio in the back. I sampled so many flavors because every single one was delicious. Now that I have come so many times I finally narrowed down my favorite to the classic Pavorotti, which is made up of a creamy banana ice cream and lots of chocolate chips. The place is pricier than I would like but for some reason I forget about that once I dig into my Pavarotti scoop and melt my sorrows away. Tiny parking lot available but sometimes end up with street parking. This place is so wonderful if you come here with great company and to just relax on the patio, chatting away with your decadent dessert on hand. Always a magical experience coming here, thank you Sebastian Joe's.

Joe P.

Yelp
Seen a crowd standing outside and onto the street last weekend...decided to give them a try. Great ice cream a little $$ for a scoop in a cup but again good stuff. I was told they have over 150 flavors that are rotated. I had the Nicollet pothole....chocolate, caramel, fudge and ? This place carries their own name brand of coffee and they due lunch with soups and sandwiches. They also make specialty ice cream cakes and pies, hand dipped cones and bars. With a name like "Joe's" you can't go wrong.

Brian H.

Yelp
We've been here twice in the past few weeks and it's a hit with our family. The ice cream is creamy and smooth with delicious flavors. The salty caramel and Oreo are my two favorites. Peanut butter is also exceptional. One of my daughters can't eat dairy and they had four delicious fruity flavors for her to choose from, which was really nice. We opted for dipped cones last time we were in and they were a big hit. It's a bit on the expensive side but the ice cream is so rich that you don't really need much. It's located in a nice little block of shops and restaurants and is only a few minutes walk/bike from the lake, making it a great option when out enjoying a summer adventure. We'll be back this summer I'm sure.
