The Flying Elk

Permanently Closed

"The Flying Elk, Gamla Stan by Snask. The back door concept of Michelin Star restaurant Frantzén, The Flying Elk, hail from the urban legend(long living lie) about a huge elk in the northern parts of Sweden that was never caught(the one that got away). This is a really nice restaurant/pub with really good food and an impressive selection of beers served in the right temperature. If you go here you might not get away since it's a very nice place to stay until the guards find you in the corner."

Pharmarium

Bar · Old Town

"Pharmarium, Gamla Stan by Snask. This restaurant and bar is situated in an old Pharmacy opened year 1575. It is heavily inspired from the antique pharmacy with strange and twisted ingredients. The food is accompanied with a signature drink to create an interesting mix. The drinks are really to die for and are served in the most interesting and passionate way we've ever experienced. Definitely the best cocktails in Stockholm along with one of the nicest signs outside. Best feeling is to sit in the bar since you get to see the damn fine masterwork as it's getting made!"

Geronimo's FGT

Restaurant · Riddarshomen

"Geronimo's FGT, Gamla Stan by Snask. Two words: Live gigs. This is the classic venue Stampen's cocky Mexican cousin Geronimo's FGT who live in the basement (FGT stands for "Fucking Good Times"). They regularly put on live music gigs of rock n'roll and they serve Mexican dishes, margaritas and snacks. A venue that is keeping the Stockholm gig scene alive after the classic Debaser Slussen was abruptly shut down for no reason. Check their website for upcoming gigs! We also recommend to go upstairs to Stampen where bands play live almost every night of the week."

19 Glas Bar & Matsal

Temporarily Closed

"19 Glas, Gamla Stan by Snask. This gem is a well celebrated restaurant with really great and fancy Nordic cuisine in a friendly and relaxed environment. You choose between 4 or 7 courses and you will not be disappointed. They also have a great lunch and an award winning wine bar. The price is not that bloody much. You land around 600-900 SEK depending on the menu and your choice of drinks. It's not a cheap place and that's exactly why Ronald McDonald is nowhere to be seen in the preparation of your food and drinks. So go here and enjoy the fancy grub you hipster foodie!"

"Stora Nygatan Antik & Kuriosa, Gamla Stan by Snask. Hidden behind shop windows made to look like a boring stamps collection store this gem is something else entirely. There are many second hand shops in Stockholm but this is a really the rockn’roll king of second hand shops. This is namely Pete Doherty’s favourite shop in Sweden. It’s where he rumbles around in the "organized chaos"(a big fat lie) and finds his army coats and hats. The shop is filled with swords, army clothes, antiques from different wars all put in huge piles. Don't be too many going here since it's extremely crowded in there but once you're in you're in a gold mine! If you go here because you're a WWII fanatic then you should probably just get a new hobby. Try baking or something."

Tweed

Permanently Closed

"Tweed, Gamla Stan by Snask. This bar is almost so hidden that it's a speak easy bar. You go into the Burgundy entrance, take a first right, past the hotel lobby and your first left. Go up a small staircase and you will end up in the lovely Tweed bar. Here drinks are first and food secondary. Lots of well-stuffed Chesterfield armchairs accompanied by old figureheads and an extremely well tasting drink menu. There's also an upper floor where you can choose from a great selection of cigars. It feels like you're someone who was let into a room where big decisions are made. So go here and decide what pizza you want for tomorrow when you wake up at 14 PM."

"Movitz, Gamla Stan by Snask. A real classic. The special thing with this place is that it's not special at all but situated among only special bars and fancy dining places. So ask your fancy friend to shut up and go in here, order a beer and sit down. Talk about what you never told your parents, try to squeeze the top of a beer glass into your mouth and decide a game who's going to pay a round of ill tasting shots. Now we could have posted this as a restaurant but we didn't want to since we would never go here for the food. We also could have posted photoshopped images of the bar but we didn't want to since that's not the reason why you should go here. It is the perfect last hideout since it’s open until 03 AM on Friday's and Saturday's."

Corner Club

Bar · Old Town

"The Corner Club, Gamla Stan by Snask. Right behind The Flying Elk you find this really great cocktail bar. Choose from a list of disturbingly tasty drinks or simply tell the bartenders what tastes you like and they’ll get you something, hopefully tasty but hey, that depends on what you like you filthy dark horse. The drinks are also so good that you can basically close your eyes, lick your finger(you can skip this part really) and point anywhere in the menu and you'll end up satisfied."

Serieboden

Book store · Riddarshomen

"Serieboden, Gamla Stan by Snask. Situated in the heart of Gamla Stan is Sweden’s oldest cartoon shop. Here you can find new as well as old and very very old cartoon magazines. Even if you’re not a huge fan of cartoons it’s still worth a visit. Why not browse through some seriously fucked up Manga books while you’re there. And don't take photos of the owner since he's of a very strong opinon that he's not photogénique but we think he is."

Jerusalem Kebab

Middle Eastern restaurant · Riddarshomen

"Jerusalem Kebab, Gamla Stan by Snask. This is not just any kebab shack. This is the best kebab shack in Stockholm. Offering very little else than kebab and falafel, plus a tasty balaclava for dessert, it’s a place good for any time of the day or night to get your belly full! Don't forget to say "blandad sås tack"(mixed sauces please). The interior looks like it should, extremely boring but very functional. So we didn't include it but if you want to go there and photograph it for your local pop fanzine feel free!"

SF Bookstore

Book store · Old Town

"Science Fiction Bokhandeln, Gamla Stan by Snask. Welcome to the best Science Fiction store in Scandinavia! This is one of few shops where you can smell sweat at the same time as you look at a life-sized replica of the Alien. It doesn't matter if you got stuck playing with "the little engineer-kit" as a child at the same time as wearing a brown cardigan, this place is something for everyone to see. It's filled with crazy stuff as well as a huge selection of SF books and magazines. You can find more than 12 different Harry Potter wands(can't decide on which one to get? Go for the Elderwand), Manga figurines bigger than your pet and other stuff you will have a problem explaining on your next Netflix and Chill-moment."

Museum of Spirits

Museum · Djurgården

"Spritmuseum, Östermalm by 25AH. A few steps away from the Vasa Museum you’ll find this museum/restaurant featuring another figurehead of Swedish culture. The theme is alcohol and Swedes relationship to it. A very fond one of course, but also complicated (you might have heard of Systembolaget, the monopolized government-run liquor store). The restaurant is well worth a visit too, especially in the summer when you can sit outside by the water."

Rosendals Trädgård

Garden · Djurgården

"Rosendal, Östermalm by 25AH. When tired after a day of sightseeing and running around town an escape to Djurgårdens Rosendals Trädgård is a great choice. When the sun is out it might be a bit crowded around lunchtime so get there early or late depending on your circadian rhythm."

The bistro, called Piccolo, is a perfect place to stop by to have an aperitivo and a glass of prosecco after a long day of sightseeing."

Skroten Café & Skeppshandel

Cafe · Djurgården

"Skroten, Östermalm by 25AH. This café is sort of tucked away, located in a part of Djurgården that’s still unknown even to many Stockholmers. Skroten has a shop where you can find things for your boat, but people mostly visit for the food and fika. You can stay in the café but our recommendation is to order take away and go down to the docks, which are really near by. There you can enjoy your meal while overlooking the urban shipyard that’s located on the other side of the water."

Café Pom & Flora

Cafe · Södermalm

"Pom & Flora, Södermalm by BVD. Pom & Flora has quickly become a big breakfast favorite for locals. On weekends people come from all over town to have a long and cozy breakfast and on weekdays the café is full of hip SoFo-locals. The interior is clean with a personal touch and the menu is fresh and healthy. A tip is their chiapudding. We strongly recommend that to get a table on a Saturday or Sunday you should be there when they open because it quickly becomes full and as said the locals like to eat breakfast for a looong time..."

Hornsgatan 182

"tack, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. As if three vintage stores in the same area were not enough. Here comes another one. Did I say that Midsommarkransen is a vintage paradise? The vintage store Tack is located just across from the metro, and is specialized in furniture and furnishings from the mid-1900s. The owner, Fred, is french and imports unique vintage from Belgium and France. Teak furniture, french interior and retro lamps are Tack's specialty, but there is something for everyone in here."

Nalle & Kroppkakan

"Nalle och kroppkakan, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. Few things are trendier than Swedish, traditional food, also called "husmanskost". And it is precisely this type of food that Nalle och Kroppkakan serve in their little restaurant just around the corner from the lovely parc Svandammsparken. Try their speciality – kroppkakor (swedish dumplings) or meatballs with potatoes and lingonberry jam. So swedish even Abba fades in comparison."

Vinterviksvägen 60

Building · Aspudden

"Winterviken, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. Next to a beautiful cove of Lake Mälaren, Vinterviken, and surrounded by gardens you find Alfred Nobel’s old dynamite factory, built in 1891. This stately brick building now houses the popular restaurant Winterviken – run by celebrity chef Mark Aujalay and his wife Erika. One of Stockholm's most beautiful places if you ask me."

Landet

Restaurant · Midsommarkransen

"Landet, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. If you are looking for nightlife in this area, Landet (translation: “the countryside”) is the place to be. Yes, this is outside the city center, but no cows in sight. Landet is located in the cool area of Telefonplan, known for the functional style of the 1940’s. Start with a superb dinner downstairs (enjoy seasonal food at it's best) and continue the night upstairs, where new, hyped bands play on weekends. Or just stay downstairs, in the restaurant, and eat one (or two) divine desserts."

2 little spoons

Home goods store · Aspudden

"2little spoons, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. After you visit the interior mekka Mimmi Staafs möbelmakeri you have to go around the corner to the interior shop 2little spoons. The store may be small but I promise you’ll find something you love in here. Whether it is a table, a jug, a toy or a scented candle in an old pharmacy bottle – this is the perfect mix of traditional and modern."

Aspuddens Bokhandel AB

Book store · Aspudden

"Aspuddens bokhandel, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. This little bookstore is located in Aspudden, an old mini town just a few steps from Midsommarkransen and Telefonplan. In this cosy bookstore you’ll find the best of the best of selected (and beautiful) books. Take a look inside a new favorite book, order a coffee or buy a novel together with a take away sandwich and go down to Mälaren. In the summer you can enjoy a wonderful view (and sunset) over the sea from Örnsberget."

"Vintagefabriken, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. Do you like cute things and vintage design? Then you have to visit the lovely Vintagefabriken (The Vintage Factory) – in the heart of the vintage district in Midsommarkransen. This little shop – owned by two swedish bloggers – collects unique vintage clothes, baby toys, books and posters with the right vintage vibe."

Dunke Design

"Dunke design, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. This is a wonderful concept store of industrial furniture and selected vintage goods in the heart of Midsommarkransens vintage area around “Skvallertorget” (gossip square). Beside kitchen tables, lamps and shelves you can find odd decorations like vintage boxing gloves, figurines from early 1900 and old soda siphons. Here you will find things you never thought were decorative. But they are! With Dunke designs magic old stuff become beautiful."

Vintervikens Trädgård - ideell förening

Non-profit organization · Aspudden

"Vintervikens trädgårdscafé, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. After strolling around in the beautiful allotments gardens of Vinterviken – why not dine in one? Good question, huh? In the summer this place is absolutely magical. The restaurant is located outside and the tables are surrounded by flowers, apple trees, green pavilions and conservatories (where you can sit if it rains). Nature design! The organic food is delicious, just like the view."

Svenska Armaturer

Store · Nybohov

"Svenska aramaturer, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. In between – and at the same address as – Dunke design and Vintagefabriken you find the one and only shop to visit if you like vintage lamps. Erik, the owner of this shop, travels around the country in search of lights. In the store you can find lamps from old disused factories, hand-blown light covers that are no longer available for purchase in regular stores and designer lamps from the mid-1900s."

"Mimmi Staafs möbelmakeri, Telefonplan Midsommarkransen by Emma Sundh. In the old part of Midsommarkransen, surrounded by houses from the early 1900’s, you find one of Stockholm's most beloved interior shops, Mimmi Staafs Möbelmakeri. The young owner, Mimmi, is a creative upholsterer who loads her bright shop with the latest, hippest and most talked about furniture, decorations and interior gadgets. Besides being an interior design queen the pleasant Mimmi is a frequently hired stylist, which is clearly visible in this design reeking shop."
