On the Grid : Bio Rio

"Come here for the cool indie flics, documentaries and your favorite classics. Occasional sing-a-longs, breakfast screenings, live opera and a 1940s café make this movie theatre extra special." - Lydia Kellam

"Bistro Rio, Hornstull by Lydia Kellam. Adjacent to a retro indie cinema theatre, Bistro Rio is the best location in the area to get yourself some java, farm-to-table greens, cardamom covered treats or just a nice glass of organic cabernet. The 50s inspired interiors, mirror covered walls and pastel hues adds coolness and comfort you’ll be hard pressed to find anywhere else."

Where to go in Hornstull – Stockholm’s hippest neighbourhood

"A cherished 1940s single-screen cinema and local cultural icon whose restoration even attracted support from the Swedish king. It hosts premieres, indie-film screenings and live opera, and is home to the country’s first cinema bar and an on-site restaurant, making it a hub for both film and dining in the neighborhood." - SilverKris

Best sound in Sweden 🥇🥇🥇 Rio Bio is a really nice little movie theater. It has a cozy feeling and a cool, old-school style that makes watching movies there special. The seats are comfortable and the screen and sound are great. What I liked most is that it’s not as crowded or noisy as big cinemas. It feels more relaxed and personal. They also show a mix of popular films and smaller ones, which is great if you want to see something different. The staff was kind and helpful, and the place was clean and well-kept. They have snacks too, just like bigger cinemas. Rating: 5/5 Favorite part: Cozy vibe and friendly staff Tip: Check their schedule for special or classic films!

It's a standard cinema with good sound and picture quality, though it feels a bit dated. You can eat and drink inside, but unfortunately, the seats aren't designed for dining. I had to balance a plate on my knees, and I ended up with wine spilled on me by other patrons who weren’t very careful as they walked by.

All cinemas should be like this. Reminds me of the Museumslichtspiele in Munich. It's lovely. Go here.

I love the fact that they have a bar and bartables bookable for movies! The movie we chose was great, but that is not the reason for my high score here. Seats were roomy with good legspace as well and the screen was raised high up, which suits the setup they have very well! 😊

I'm a regular here. This is among Stockholm's pearls, whether for its cinema a Sunday evening, the bar in a Friday or the restaurant on a weekday. This place needs presentation, as it were.

Really nice vegan lunch! Chilled environment, weekends can be crowded. Vintage interiour.

Yelp
I was here for "filmfrukost", movie breakfast. A very nice lady checked my ticket and asked if I had been there before (I hadn't so that was helpful) and pointed towards where they had set up the different breakfast things and then proceeded to tell me the setup. I took a tray on put all of the things offered... Apple juice, yoghurt w granola, a cheese and veggie sandwich (w two pieces of red bell pepper, I love red bell pepper!) and organic earl grey (either that or coffe) ... I sat down (in the theater) and ate my breakfast to the music of "sugarman" Rodriguez... It was very pleasant. Now, the movie + breakfast was 160kr, just the movie alone would have been 100 sek. I guess that the breakfast was worth 60 sek, although i thought it was a bit small, and it did not care much for the quality of the bread (I'm a bread snob). I would pay more for a larger portion, it is a weekend breakfast after all... Anyway, its a cute concept, that i recommend. The theater is cute with a vintage look, and they have a good artsy cultural repertoire.
