Almanak

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Copenhagen

"Tasty Nordic-Inspired Food As part of the Standard, a combined foodie hot spot and jazz club in the old Copenhagen customs house, Almanak focuses on traditional Danish flavors prepared using seasonal ingredients including berries, fruits, seeds, nuts, herbs, and everything in between – with dishes such as glazed baked beetroot with fresh blackberry, fennel, sorrel and smoked cheese, and wild duck confit with baked plums. With an all-star staff, the focus is on service, flavor, and a rich experience that draws from local nature and changing seasons to shape the taste and feel of the menu. The concept behind the Standard is compelling. It is home to three different fine-dining restaurants, including Almanak, which occupy the building while also having access to and working closely with the Standard's jazz club. The goal is to create a robust and vibrant atmosphere. Photo courtesy of the Standard."

The restaurant serves Indian dishes as well as traditional Indian drinks and has a lounge area. The concept behind The Standard is compelling. "Thoughtfulness Can Be Tasted Geranium has the distinction of having been awarded two Michelin stars for 2014. The restaurant is situated on the 8th floor in the heart of FĂŚlledparken and provides wonderful views out over Copenhagen 's skyline. For these guys nature is food, and food is art. Restaurant Bror

Permanently Closed

"Noma, consistently ranked as one of the world’s best restaurants, closed in 2016, but its impact on dining in Copenhagen has been profound. Many chefs who worked there have since launched their own restaurants, including two who opened Bror. It’s a small space with big ambitions—expect astonishing food made from the best local produce. The five-course menu costs 625 kroner ($100), with wine pairings an additional 450 kroner ($72). There are also some memorable snacks. Don’t miss the bull testicles with tartar sauce or the cod head with cabbage wrap."

Høst

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Nørre Søgade

"Rustic Design at Its Best This place is an interesting blend. In the recent Danish tradition, it is a partnership between a number of different creative types. This time, those personalities happen to be design-oriented people from the food, interior design, and dinnerware design communities. This restaurant has focused completely on providing a rich, intensely rustic experience that embodies modern trends in both the New Nordic cuisine movement and Danish design. Recent offerings include flounder with fried chicken skin and sauce made from fermented asparagus and grilled lobster with juniper pancake and pointed cabbage. Photo: HĂśst."

Aoc

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Adelsgade

"Simplicity Done Right AOC takes a New Nordic–inspired elemental approach to food. Ingredients are sourced locally with a focus on maximizing the complete experience, which includes rich colors, presentation, smells, and flavor. The restaurant is small, with room for roughly 45 people and located in the cellar of a 17th-century building. The design is simple and clean, and it avoids anything that might distract from the food. The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star. Photo: cyclonebill (flickr)"

Kadeau Copenhagen

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Knippelsbro

"Bornholm in Copenhagen Kadeau is a restaurant with roots based firmly on the small Danish island of Bornholm. The menu, ambiance, and spirit of the food seeks to convey the charm, simplicity, smells and fresh quality of the island in culinary form. Kadeau has been extremely popular and recently re-located to Christianshavn. When they did, they re-named and re-branded their old location into Pony. The restaurant has been awarded one Michelin star. Photo: Marie Louise Munkegaard (Kadeau)"

Oysters & Grill

Modern European restaurant ¡ Indre Nørrebro

"Rustic Seafood This popular boutique seafood restaurant is part of the cofoco restaurant line. It describes itself as a "combination of a restaurant in Mallorca, a French bistro, the soundtrack from a Bollywood film, a port city on Gran Canaria, East Berlin and a charter to Costa Brava". With a description like that what more can you say other than that it perfectly fits in with Norrebro's funky and flavorful mixture of cultures, grit, and casual fine dining."

Relae

Permanently Closed

"Rene Redzepi's Picks: Relae, Copenhagen Here in Copenhagen , Restaurant Relae is a must. Chef Christian Puglisi does a delicious, modern, vegetable-based cuisine. Before dinner, spend an hour strolling through the lovely street where it’s located. It is filled with small artisanal craft and food shops. Jaegersborggade 41, 45/(0) 36-966-609. Rene Redzepi chose this as one of his favorite places."

Noma

Scandinavian restaurant ¡ BradbÌnken

"Unforgettable Dining in Copenhagen Noma closed its Copenhagen location at the end of 2016. Ranked the #1 restaurant in the world for years running, a meal at Noma is a must-have experience for anyone interested in food. Course after course (we stopped counting at about 17) of inventive and unique tastes are delivered to your table and explained by the chef who cooked it as your wine glass is constantly refilled. Plan for a full afternoon or evening (3-4 hours). Securing a reservation takes some doing and usually must be done months in advance but it is worth the effort. By Denise Alexandra Spencer"

Søllerød Kro

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Copenhagen

"Situated Just Outside Copenhagen Søllerød Kro is a short trip from central Copenhagen and situated in the suburb of Holte. A meal here includes a walk through history as the building is a converted inn which dates back to 1677 and still has a traditional thatched roof. While this may have started out as a humble inn, its modern incarnation is that of a fine dining establishment that focuses on gorgeous meals immaculately presented. Each dish is a work of art that is guaranteed to captivate the senses, like black lobster with leek, tomato, pine & bouillon, and sea buckthorn with mandarin and beans. It is no surprise that this restaurant currently holds a Michelin Star. Photo: Søllerød Kro"

"Nordic Food Meets Nordic Design Situated at the top of Copenhagen 's Radisson Blu Royal Hotel, this New Nordic restaurant has a reputation for excellence. Meals are sourced using local ingredients from nearby farms and assembled in a way that focuses on protecting their natural flavor. The view from the restaurant, which is situated a five-minute walk from the Copenhagen lakes, Tivoli Gardens, City Hall, and Central Station, is a definite must. The hotel was designed and outfitted by Arne Jacobsen, one of Denmark's most famous architects. Jacobsen's touch is still present and featured prominently in the hotel's design and visual style. This spills over into many of the details, including Jacobsen's cutlery and furniture which allows visitors a direct relationship with a blend of traditional Danish design and New Nordic cuisine Photo: Thomas Angermann (angermann on flickr)."

Era Ora

Permanently Closed

"Amazing Italian Food ERAORA's goal was to bring a slice of Italy to Denmark and they've done a fantastic job of it. The restaurant is situated in an 18th century building near Christianshavn's historic canals and rests alongside a cozy courtyard. The restaurant's approach is that of a fusion kitchen, but one which seeks to combine different Italian regions instead of different nationalities. Obviously, this has worked well as the restaurant was awarded a Michelin star. It is also part of a small series of restaurants which include L'Altro and Chefe. Photo: ERAORA (video screen capture)"

Hotel D'Angleterre

Hotel ¡ Store Regnegade

"The Finest Hotel in Copenhagen After closing its doors for two years, the 250-year-old D'Angleterre hotel reopened in the spring of 2013, unveiling the first phase of a massive makeover. Every inch of the landmark hotel was in some way touched by the redesign, from the famed Marchal restaurant to its iconic façade. Each detail was considered to elevate the d’Angleterre back to its former status as Scandinavia's most exclusive hotel. The updated hotel features Space Nordic spa (the indoor pool and hammam open in December 2013), Denmark's first champagne bar, the Balthazar, and a revived experience in the Marchal restaurant, now helmed by Michelin-starred former chef-to-the-Queen Ronny Emborg. While the design touches are decidedly Danish, the hotel's grand Franco-Danish history is still very much present. Click through their website to read more of the backstory!"

STUD!O

"One of Three Restaurants in the Standard Situated in the old Copenhagen customs house overlooking the water, Studio has been awarded a Michelin star and focuses on a fusion of Nordic and international flavors prepared in an open kitchen with a fine-dining focus. With an all-star staff, the focus is on service, flavor, and a rich experience with a heavy dose of creativity, with offerings like squid with gooseberries and kaffir lime, razor clam with nasturtium and horseradish, and sweetbread with onion and tamarind. The concept behind the Standard is compelling. It is home to three different fine-dining restaurants including Studio, which occupy the building while also having access to and working closely with the Standard's Jazzclub. Their goal is to create a robust and vibrant atmosphere. Photo: The Standard"

Marv & Ben

Danish restaurant ¡ BadstuestrÌde

"Simple Fancy Food Marv & Ben has become famous within Copenhagen for its focus on simple classics served in an artistic way while still remaining packed with flavor. As with most New Nordic restaurants, the menu is highly seasonal and draws heavily from what is available in Denmark. The restaurant states that everything used on the menu is Danish and that they make an effort to source things from as close to Copenhagen as possible. This includes growing a lot of what they use in their own garden. The wines served are biodynamic and organic. Marv & Ben aims for a relaxed feel which has, at times, been described as a gastro-pub ambience."

Borgergade 16

Adelsgade

"Gourmet Dining at Clou Run by twin brothers, Clou focuses on crafting food that is perfectly balanced with the wines that accompany it. They seek inspiration from all over the world and aren't afraid to draw ingredients from both local and more exotic locations. In 2014 the restaurant was awarded its first Michelin star. Kokkeriet

Permanently Closed

"When New Danish Gastronomy Meets Old Situated in Copenhagen 's converted Navy barracks which date back to the 1600s, this restaurant seeks to deliver Danish cuisine that draws from the best parts of new and traditional trends: Think chicken liver with raspberry and sorrel, scallop with pumpkin and roses, sole with peas and elderflower. As they note on their website, "Kokkeriet is all four seasons. It is sprouting, succulent dishes in spring, light and elegant dishes in summer, longing, melancholic tastes in fall, and comfortable, warming dishes in winter. It is love, understanding and respect for Danish gastronomy. With a twinkle in the eye, curiosity, obstinacy and a genuine intention to serve sublime Danish food reconstructed in the best possible way." The restaurant has been awarded a Michelin Star for excellence. Photo: Kokkeriet"

Kiin Kiin

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Indre Nørrebro

"Thai Fine Dining Kiin Kiin is situated in the heart of Norrebro and combines the neighborhood's ethnic charm with a polished interior assembled by hip, progressive, Thai designers. Known for building upon the hallmarks of Thai cuisine - flavor, freshness, and exotic flavors - Kiion Kiin also delivers the presentation and high quality ingredients that Danish Thai food can often lack. The restaurant has received heavy praise from many local papers, and is the only Thai restaurant in Copenhagen to hold a Michelin Star. Photo: cyclonebill on flickr"

Den Røde Cottage

Fine dining restaurant ¡ TaarbÌk

"The Red Cottage I guess it would be silly to have a little cottage in the middle of central Copenhagen , so perhaps it is no surprise that this restaurant is located slightly outside the city core. Focusing on drawing inspiration from the natural setting, the cottage is sandwiched between the sprawling Deer Park (which includes Bakken, the world's oldest amusement park), and a beautiful Danish beach. The Red Cottage is a popular culinary destination, and has been awarded a Michelin Star for excellent cuisine and atmosphere. Photo: Den Røde Cottage (Facebook)"

formel B

Fine dining restaurant ¡ Copenhagen

"Classic French Cuisine It wouldn't be a quality French restaurant without a fantastic wine menu - something that features centrally in shaping Formel B's menu and which includes typical wines as well as those without sulfur or clarification. This French-Danish restaurant focuses on traditional French cooking but opts to throw out the rule book. They also source ingredients locally and explain on their webpage that, "We work at eye level with our suppliers who are mainly small Danish farmers with respect to sustainability and nature. We prefer to work with whole animals including cattle from Birkemose farm and Knuthenlund. Vegetables supplied mostly by Søren Wiuff from Lammefjorden and Ask from Kiselgaarden. Dairy products come from Thiese and Knuthenlund. All seafood comes from Danish waters." This restaurant has been awarded a Michelin star for excellence. Photo: Formel B"

Grønbech Churchill

Permanently Closed

"Fine Dining Near the Palace Classic gastronomy with simple tweaks in the Danish tradition. This restaurant is located just around the corner from Amalienborg Palace beside Kastellet, Copenhagen 's old Renaissance fortress. A number of countries' embassies can also be found in the immediate area, while just across the road you'll find the corporate HQ for Denmark's most high-profile company, Maersk. The dining experience is sophisticated and crafted to be everything that Danish fine diners demand from Danish gastronomy. Fresh. Aromatic. Brilliantly presented and packed with flavor. This restaurant was awarded a Michelin Star in 2014."

"Fine Dining in the Royal Library Named after Danish philosopher Søren Kierkegaard, this fine-dining restaurant is situated in one of Copenhagen 's most famous buildings: the Royal Library which is also affectionately called the Black Diamond. The approach revolves around affordable simplicity, clean elegance, and an amazing location with stunning views out over Copenhagen's harbor and of Christianshavn. Photo: Søren K."

Uformel

Restaurant ¡ Staunings Plads

"formel B's New Edgy Younger Brother Uformel is run by Kristian Arpe-Møller and Rune Amgild Jochumsen, who are the minds that brought Copenhagen formel B, one of the city's most popular Michelin star restaurants. Uformel describes itself as Formel B's "cool and edgy younger brother". The restaurant is run by sommelier Martin Iuel-Brockdorff Bek and head chef Frederik Alexander Rudkjøbing. Martin served as sommelier for formel B since 2003 and Frederik has served as sous chef at formel B for more than two years. While this restaurant is born out of the New Nordic tradition its menu is not strictly confined to Nordic Cuisine."

The Christiansborg's Tower

Observation deck ¡ Copenhagen

"Eat in the Home of the Danish Government What's more enjoyable than a fantastic meal? A fantastic meal in a beautiful restaurant situated in the tower of Christiansborg Palace, the operational seat of the Danish Government. The quality of the food is fantastic, the location is incredibly cool, and while you're waiting to be called to your seat, you can always pop up into Christiansborg's tower for a stunning view of the city skyline."
