From champagne truffles and single-origin chocolate to indulgent cakes and chocolate covered beans, Zurich is heaven for chocoholics. Teuscher is synonymous with Swiss chocolate and its flagship store is here in Zurich - don’t forget to try the Dom Perignon-infused truffle. The best hot chocolate in Zurich is served in the fairy-tale setting of Café Conditorei Schober while Sprüngli specializes in ginormous ice cream sundaes. "Single-Origin Chocolates in the Altstadt Former interior designer and gallery owner Elisabetta Capei now presides over this shop near St. Peter’s Church. It specializes in artisan handmade Swiss and Italian chocolates. Among her highlights are chocolates by Reichmuth von Reding, a little-known producer whose super-smooth, velvety-tasting bars are made with single-origin cacao beans and are conched for up to 72 hours. In the back of the shop, there’s a small counter with just eight stools for drinking Elisabetta’s hot chocolate, which she whisks herself, making just four to five liters a day."

"A Family-Run Chocolate Institution on Rennweg This Zurich institution just off Bahnhofstrasse has been open for over a century, and is now run by Cristina de Perregaux, granddaughter of founder Fritz Honold. The confectioner and café offers terrific muesli and crisp Straumann Hüppen pastries, but what it’s really known for is its Lotti’s Best—named for another family member and former proprietor Lotti Honold—divine squares of crumbly, crunchy nougat flavored with Tonka bean and fleur de sel, and enrobed in rich Criollo de Venezuela and milk chocolate."

"Teuscher's Flagship Shop in the Altstadt Teuscher might be an international name with shops in 19 cities as far-flung as Shanghai and Singapore , but it’s still very much a homegrown brand. All of its chocolates are made in Zurich before being shipped out to its global stores, and its flagship shop, which occupies a 17th century half-timbered building on a narrow cobblestoned street in the Altstadt, is smaller than most living rooms (and manned by a staff of two). The chocolate to get, of course, is its iconic Champagne truffle, a Dom Perignon-infused cream and dark chocolate ganache sealed in a milk chocolate shell and dusted with confectioner’s sugar."

"Paradeplatz's Chocolate Heaven There are 14 outposts of the famed chocolate shop in and around town, but the one to go to is its flagship, which occupies a prime corner perch on Paradeplatz. There are gorgeous displays of Sprungli’s signature sweet, the Luxemburgerli, Lilliputian takes on the macaron; its exquisite line of truffles; and its dense, rich, uniquely shaped Truffe cake—quite possibly the best chocolate cake ever. Don’t miss its gorgeous second-floor café."

"Dark-Chocolate Covered Criollo Beans from an Alstadt Institution This Altstadt institution known for its specialty coffee beans, teas and spices also sells a small, but excellent selection of specialty Swiss chocolate bars, including Akesson’s and Idillio Origins, and delicious chocolate oddities like dark-chocolate covered Criollo beans and ginger sticks."

"Chocolate Squares to Rival the Champagne Truffle The classic Zurich chocolate is the champagne truffle, but this Altstadt chocolatier's specialty is the Zuger ChriesiblĂĽete, thick, enticing squares of biscuit and cherry liqueur enrobed in milk and dark chocolate."
