Honold

I loved the hot chocolate! The food was great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. However, the service we experienced was disappointing. When we wanted to get the bill, I waved my hand, said ‘excuse me’ several times, and even kept my hand raised, but unfortunately, all my efforts were ignored. It seemed like the older waitress could see everyone else but us (Asian). It wasn’t until I made direct eye contact with her that she finally sent a young waitress over to assist, who was much friendlier compared to the older lady. What can I say, experienced enough for this kind of passive aggressive during the time in Switzerland.

Picked this cafe for a drink + snack due to street side appeal and glad I did. Wide range of choices and the coffee is legit coming from an Aussie tourist (note- latte is just milk in Italian so make sure you order caffe latte if you are after coffee) . Lots of customers buy service was prompt and friendly. Payment can be made in cash or card.

I was there actually for the strawberry tart and a hot chocolate, and they just bring to the table the hot chocolate, never the strawberry, when I had to pay they charged me 14CHF just for the hot chocolate… I was in a hurry and I didn’t notice how much they charged me. But not very nice! Because I saw the carta when I ordered and that wasn’t the price. I don’t know if they did this because I’m not from here, but very disappointed.

After a busy day, my partner and I decided to grab a quick bite at Honold, a place we have known for a long time. We ordered two egg salads and drinks. The salad was visibly old, but we decided not to say anything as we arrived by 6 p.m., and they close by 6:30 p.m. Unfortunately, shortly after leaving the shop, we both started to feel suddenly ill and had to look for the nearing public services rashly. It was a total disappointment, especially when he had paid nearly 19 CHF EACH for a simple (mushy) green salad with (a terrible) sauce and two "balls" of egg with mayonnaise at the top. It is a total disaster for a place that prides itself on over 100 years in business.

A little cramped in the back seating area. Good coffee and pastries. Prices are high but what you expect in Zurich

I would say to try this for a more Swiss-cafe experience. You can have one of their traditional cakes and they also add one for each season. Definitely way better than the Starbucks in front of it 😉

Looks better than it tastes. The tuna canape had a weird taste, could not finish it. The bread was old and hard. Overpriced, overall not a good value for the money.

Old fashion European style cafe and pastry shop. Food quality is good, price is not cheap, well their location is in the heart of old town, the store has to survive. Few of waitresses actually speak English, communication could be hard if you don't understand Dutch, German or Swiss.

Another great chocolatier in Zurich! I think this was stop #2 in my self guided chocolate walking tour. Haha yep, I most certainly went on a walking tour of Zurich's chocolatiers. Honold is excellent and if I were to return in the future, I'd skip Bachmann but would go back to Honold.

Terrible service. Refused to warm up a take out crescent, even a microwave was next to the counter. I will never visit this store again.

Really great cafe with outside seating area and amazing snacks. We have tried a selection of various sandwiches and quiches and were really satisified with all of them.

Good place for treats and it was difficult to pick which one I wanted to try. I decided on a Jetsons Myrtilles. Very unusual taste with sugary and tarty cookie.Very nice customer service.

we stopped by for some Belgian waffles opted for one plain with sugar and one with chocolate both were pretty good - fluffy and soft but i would have preferred some crispier edges overall, a cute cafe to visit if you're in the mood for some tasty baked treats

I had a pain au chocolat which was good but not unforgettable (too few chocolate) and probably a bit overpriced.

This place is a bakery and chocolate shop. They also serve some sandwiches and have a place for you to sit to eat and drink something. I only got chocolates (sold by the weight), and paid around $10-11 for 5-6 chocolates, so roughly $2 per chocolate (on par with what you'll pay at Laderach) This place seems pretty old and established, but I didn't really find the chocolates to be very special. Don't get me wrong, the chocolates were good, but nothing outstanding in my book. I much prefer Laderach for their truffles and especially for their chocolate slabs / barks. The best truffle that I liked was the chocolate praline one (shaped in an oval/shell of a nut) with milk chocolate. Some of the boozy ones were too strong on the alcohol and made me think I was going to get drunk eating it, and some of the others were too sweet for my liking. I'd pass on the chocolates here. They were fine, but not quite to my liking compared to Laderach and Max Chocolatier.

Well, I might have given it 2 stars as I thought it was way overpriced for a simple cup of coffee but then I went across the street and peeked into the starbucks and a basic cup of coffee was priced even higher! It is Zurich, which is not a cheap city. The pastries looked delicious although I didn't try any. They have a clean restroom upstairs and that was really the only reason we stopped in for the quick beverage.

We had tea and coffee there with a one year old. Waitress was very welcoming and I liked the relaxed atmosphere. People were here to share a good moment and chat with their family or friends, quietly, enjoying the moment! They also sell chocolates and bakeries but we have not tried.

I came in here to buy chocolate as I have heard (I'm not sure how true this holds) Honold uses Felchlin couverture. As I wanted to but didn't visit the Felchlin factory I could only "settle" for finished chocolate... Not cheap. I didn't buy the truffles, only the discs. Cacao nibs add a nice rougher texture to the chocolate. And during the fall I think they sell a vermicelli cake made with smooth chestnut cream. According to Nicole they have a bathroom upstairs. I did ask to use it but they said there was no public restroom so I had to go to the bank across the street. And there, staff were reluctant.

One of the most famous bakeries you can visit in Zurich (since 1905). My grandmother used to go here to get the good stuff. Beware of the prices!  It is known for being very expensive but also amazing. A beautiful small raspberry cake costs about CHF 42/-.  It is also home to the best "Butterbretzel", A very traditional swiss pretzel bun with butter.

Nice place to go to rest up in the afternoon. Pastries are yummy (order at the counter), but note that the prices differ depending on if you eat in or take out (more expensive to eat in). After getting food, you can head on inside to sit down, and that is where you would order the drinks. Hot chocolate Honold style was very interesting. The place seemed very busy, but they don't rush you to leave.

A nice pastry shop where you can get chocolates too. We enjoyed their delicious cakes and coffee. The service was friendly and the prices are on average. But there is a strange guests behaviour issue there! Many of them acted ridiculously as detective spying on others and trying to prove they best fulfil the criteria for being there!!! That's disturbing!

A somewhat disappointing pastry shop in Zürich, which I found to be extremely overpriced and of questionable quality. I had the coffee which was actually one of the few that I threw away in Europe (which I consider sacrilege because most of the cappuccinos/espressos are excellent). Sure given its location there are many more suitable eateries to get a snack.
