Street to Kitchen is a cozy spot serving bold Thai street food, where spicy flavors and attentive service create a memorable dining experience.
"Street To Kitchen’s tom yum is a diabolical concoction that punches you with heat, lemongrass, and delicious tang. The bowl at this East End Thai restaurant comes with thick slices of mushrooms and perfectly pink shrimp bobbing in a broth layered with lemongrass and stewed tomato. It’s also spicy as all hell and will make you wish people were still carrying handkerchiefs. Got a sinus problem? Not anymore, you don’t. Due to the tiny size of the dining room, reservations at Street To Kitchen are already difficult to get. And since the chef won a James Beard Award in early 2023, getting one (especially at peak hours) is now actually impossible. Unless you’re able to plan a couple weeks in advance, try going for a table right at 5pm or get a little European with a 9pm visit. Walk-ins are not recommended." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas, julie takahashi
"James Beard Award-winning chef Benchawan Jabthong Painter and Graham Painter, the duo behind Street Kitchen, unleash “unapologetic” Thai dishes in their dream location in the Plant in Second Ward. Expect Chef G’s classics like her Massaman curry and the shrimp pad thai on the all-day menu, plus special features like the truffle durian crab curry over forbidden black sticky rice at dinner and newer dishes exclusively from Chef G’s home region in Northern Thailand. Street to Kitchen also features an expanded list of “bougie” cocktails at its neon-lit bar, with boozy frozen Thai iced teas and Toki highballs on tap." - Brittany Britto Garley
"James Beard Award-winning chef Benchawan Jabthong Painter earned a Bib Gourmand for her Thai restaurant in East End that serves staples like drunken noodles, fiery curries, and traditional Pad Thai. Dinner is when Chef G truly unleashes, honing in on Northern Thai cuisine and dreaming up specials — smart diners grab a reservation to reserve their seat. The full-service bar, however, is first-come, first-serve and delights with specially picked wines, Toki Highballs on tap, boozy Thai iced teas, and other “bougie” drinks." - Brittany Britto Garley
"Beloved Thai restaurant Street to Kitchen may have moved on up to new digs on the west side of the East End, but everything that matters (the food) remains exactly the same. Heaped with near-tongue-obliterating spice, every dish at Street To Kitchen tastes like someone electrocuted your taste buds, but you really liked it. We also appreciate the new cocktail menu (that frozen Thai tea may or may not have saved us mid-dinner) and the curt but polite service that makes us want to be on our best behavior. Secure a reservation as soon as possible for a special occasion, test-the-waters date, or to simply feel the burn." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
"Verdict: Deep in the East End lies the Thai powerhouse Street To Kitchen. Attached to a gas station and impossibly small, Street To Kitchen pumps out impressively spicy drunken noodles, bowls of tangy tom yum, bottles of well-paired natural wine, and damn near the best mango sticky rice you’ll ever eat. Once cocooned by the restaurant’s colorful embrace, you may never want to leave. We sure don’t. " - gianni greene, chelsea thomas
