Nestled in a former boat-building facility, this vibrant spot serves globally inspired bites and gourmet pastries, complete with inviting outdoor patios.
"On Saturday mornings, the lines at this boathouse-turned-bakery look like a game of Snake played by somebody who’s really good at Snake. To avoid the big groups of people, we endorse swinging by Saint Bread on a weekday instead. Among the excellent lineup of buns and loaves in the pastry case, there are more substantial breakfasts, like olive oiled za’atar avocado toast, an Okonomiyaki-style tortilla with sweet potato and bulldog sauce, and a sweet-and-salty BEC on sugared Japanese melonpan that easily beats anything heated in a turbo oven at your corner coffee chain." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley
"Sure, this bakery in the U-District is called Saint Bread, but we’d like to submit their salty brown butter chocolate chip cookie for sainthood consideration, too. (Ball’s in your court, Pope.) The chocolate is so dark that it registers as fruity, with an even distribution between larger shards and smaller shavings—and there’s a distinct dough tang that nearly tastes yeasted. We can’t think of a better finale after inhaling a bacon-egg-and-cheese on sugar-dusted melonpan." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley
"Inside this U-District bakery that used to be an old boathouse, you’ll find our favorite avocado toast in town, made better than the rest by a heavy sprinkling of za’atar, pools of grassy olive oil, and scientifically precise levels of fresh lemon and salt. There’s also a riff on Norwegian-style school buns filled with raspberry jam and creamy custard, too. But what really has us worshipping Saint Bread is their breakfast sandwich on a fluffy Japanese melonpan that’s topped with a thin layer of cookie dough before baking. Glory be to this creation, stuffed with jammy-but-not-messy fried eggs and sticky american cheese that fuses to the bacon grease and rogue granulated sugar on your fingertips. Embrace the sweet-and-salty McGriddle energy." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley
"Saint Bread has become one of Seattle’s most famous and celebrated bakeries, but it feels like not enough people know about Hinoki and Heave Ho, the food and drink trucks, respectively, that open at the back of Saint Bread during the summer. Eating Japanese barbecue food and sipping cocktails next to Portage Bay isn’t a bad way to spend the long warm-weather afternoons. When the great dark comes again, you can still come here, of course— but you’ll have to retreat to the covered patio with the heat lamps and grab a cheeseburger." - Harry Cheadle
"Stumble across Saint Bread and you might think that you’ve been zapped via enchanted portal to a rustic boathouse with stained glass windows in a remote waterfront village. Only instead of buoys and barnacles, this little shed is filled with sandwiches and pastries ideal for a lazy Saturday breakfast. You’ll find a za'atar and olive oil-spiked avocado toast, and Norwegian-style school buns filled with raspberry jam and creamy custard, too.
