On a usual day, Projector is a coworking space with snacks, coffee, and uncountable books on design. "Monument to Pronia Prokopivna and Svirid Petrovich, Andriivskiy Descent Vozdvizhenka. The statue of Svirid Petrovich Golokhvastov and Pronya Prokopivna Sirko is based on two characters of Soviet times Ukraine comedy movie "For two hares." The movie took place in Andriivskiy descent and the main scene is in St. Andrew's Church.The statue shows the moment when Svirid Golohvastov is on one knee, offering a hand and his heart to Pronya Prokopivna. She stretches out her hand for him to kiss. The film is one of the classic Ukrainian comedies, it never gets dull.Even though the monument is quite new, it already has myths related to it. There are two main features: first, there is a ring on the finger of Pronya Prokopivna statue. Legend says that if one rubs it, she will be married soon. The second is related to the bug on the back of Svirid Petrovich - if you rub it, you will get good luck and good fortune."

"Bulgakov's museum, Andriivskiy Descent Vozdvizhenka. Literature-Memorial Museum to Mikhail Bulgakov is a museum dedicated to Kiev-born Russian writer Mikhail Bulgakov. The building itself, erected in 1888 and designed by architect Nickolay Gardenin, was thoroughly renovated before the opening of the museum. A memorial plaque with Bulgakov's portrait now hangs on the front of the building."

"National Arts Museum, Lypky. You can always find Ukrainian artists retrospective here, accompanied by special temporary exhibitions. In the past few years it has been hosting pretty successful showing with young curators uncovering the best sides of Ukrainian 20th century art. "Divan, Lypky. Live music places are quite rare in Kyiv these days, most have been acquired by DJ music but this spot survives. They have daily line ups including local rock, blues bands, as well as stand up shows and poetry evenings. Divan is famous for its walls, covered with art from Codex Seraphinianus, a famous illustrated encyclopedia of an imaginary world by Luigi Serafini. There is an extremely cheap bar with happy hours starting at midnight."

"Dynamo Stadium, Lypky. The stadium had been a home for world famous Dynamo Kyiv football team until the club moved to Olimpiysky. It has seen a deathmatch during WWI when Luftwaffe officers squad was beaten by Dynamo players, that didn’t make the Nazis too happy. The square next to its entrance's colonnade saw bloody events in 2014, where the fist casualties of Revolution of Dignity came from."

"Circul shoes, Lypky. If finding a good pair of shoes at a fair priced shoes is still a problem in Kyiv, Sasha Circul is here to save you. His little shoemaker’s store located in the basement of the 100 y.o. house, just as shoemaker’s workshops did centuries before. Circul collection usually includes wide range of classics: brogs, loafers, oxfords etc. Hats, belts and wallets are also available. This place has sign, call in advance for directions."

"Chocolate house, Lypky. This house was finished in 1901 and got its name from the chocolate color of its facade. Considered as rare example of classic modern style Italian palazzo, it has big halls and smaller rooms with impressive classic interiors. Vast part of the property host art exhibitions and lectures, all stemming from a branch of the Kyiv National Museum of Russian Art."

"House with Chimaeras, Lypky. Famous Kyiv architect Horodetsky was brave enough to buy a part of a land on a very sharp hill to built this apartment house. His engineering talent brought a building which has 3 stories from one side and five from another but the main attraction here is a facade covered with a vast array of monsters. Everything is made with concrete, a surprising choice as for 1900s. The choice was a result or a dealing with concrete enterprise to promote that material. Tours inside are rare, but try to ask your local friends to arrange you one in advance."

"Roshen, Lypky. Two floors of candies, chocolate plates, soviet style cakes in carton round boxes and many more sweets to ruin your diet including soviet specialities ‘zefir’, ‘pastila’ and others alike. Everything is produced by Roshen factories owned by current state leader, president Petro Poroshenko. Buy Kyivsky tort (Kyiv cake) here."

"Cinema Ukraina, Lypky. Not just another new cinema in your local shopping mall but a stand-alone movie theater with two screening halls (one is 456 seats), two bars, and a restaurant popular among politicians. This neighborhood is packed with government institutions. Cinema Ukraina hosts national movie premiers almost every week and has screenings after midnight, there are special lover seats for all the lovers wanting to watch a movie together."

"Na Stanislavskogo cafe, Lypky. Stanislavskogo street is less than 50 meters long and ‘Na Stanislavskogo’ is one and only cafe resident here. Stanislavsky himself invented world famous techniques used to train actors and actresses to create believable characterizations for their performances. ‘Na Stanislavskogo’ could be the only cafe in the world, not a human, that uses this technique as an institution to play the role of theater cafeteria. Coffee, hot chocolate, homemade wine, books, and old-fashioned music rule this place. Tiny space recreates a saloon for soviet bohema throwing swing dance and flamenco parties, poetry evenings, hosting guest coffee roasters, workshops for kids,and Sundaу movie screenings. "VeganoHooligano, Lypky. When VeganoHooligano appeared on Bessarabskyi market in 2015 it seemed like a joke on everything that surrounds this little cafe. Butcher’s knifes can be visible 10-15 meters from this kiosk with 2-3 young cooks at open kitchen busy rolling grilled tofu, falafels and other season rolls. You can see them making green burgers, mixing perfect salads, and humus plates until late. You can take everything away but its better to sit or stand next to the kiosk, enjoying your no-animals-were-harmed meal listening to butcher axes still doing their job like they did 100 years ago."

"Bessarabsky market, Lypky. This market stands at the southwest end of Khreshchatyk street. The building was erected in 1910-1912 in late modern style by Polish architect Henryk Julian Gay. His project was so high-tech it took an incredible effort for local constructors to bring it to life. This indoor market survived through number of wars and revolutions, was under threat of demolition by the soviets but luckily still remains one of the most colorful and authentic Kyiv place.You can buy fresh meat, fish or any kind of greens (all considered much overpriced by locals) from the loud Ukrainian tradeswomen or calm Uzbek fellows. Have a cheap quick bite at numerous fast-food spots (including VeganoHooligano and Linas deserving stand-alone mention in this guide) available from the inside or outside of the market building. The Bessarabsky market is open 24/7 so you can try your luck during the night asking security guys to bring you to the large basement by 100 years old elevator which served as a large morgue for bolsheviks due to high demand for spaces of this kind during Stalin’s rule."

"Chashka, Lypky. Coffee culture in Kyiv is just a bit older than bar culture, but Chashka (‘The Cup’) is the best possible mix of both in town. Thess guys run their own roastery, barista school, and host guest star baristas. Chashka is also famous for perfect breakfast menu served all day long and throwing parties on Fridays with local vinyl funk DJs. Parties feature local craft beer accompanied with the cafe’s own view on classic cocktails. I also recommend the cheesecake. Pour different sauces on your pastry, for no extra cost.The distinctive feature of this sweet-shop is master classes. You can order it for the price of a large strudel, and you will carry out handmade sweets."

"Favorite place "Mozzhevelnik", Podil. Sport your best socks when going to Mozzhevelnik, you’re gonna have to take your shoes off. In the “favorite place” (which is a legit part of the name) you’ll get the homely feeling and delicious foods. The staff is typically bearded and ink-covered, and the place doesn’t own a menu. The cook just wakes up in the morning and decides what he feels like creating today. He then goes to buy fresh seasonal ingredients and mix them in unusual combos. Ask for a lavender cookie with a cup of buckthorn berry tea, climb upstairs and make yourself comfortable on the wooden windowsill. P.S. Movie screenings on Mondays, by the way."

"Pink freud, Podil. Pink Freud has no entrance signs. You can only find it by the small Sigmund Freud drawings on the walls next to one of the arches in 19 Nizhniy Val st. The paintings will lead you to a small courtyard with a bar in it. The bar opens up at 18:00 and closes with the last guest. The chef-bartender Gerasimos has invented 12 cocktails ($4-5 each). Some say molecular gastronomy has been involved in the business. He specifically recommends Manhattan cocktail, based on the american rye whiskey, Bulleit.The place doesn’t serve much food, with mainly appetizers and sandwiches to accompany your drink."

"Closer, Podil. The most controversial and magnetic place in Kiyv; the ever boiling mass of youth, rave, and all-nighters. You need a guide to find the entrance, but aim at the old tape factory and look for a checkpoint. If you’re looking for a Party with a capital P, you’re on the right track. Just in case you missed the Saturday night, try Sunday morning, there’s a good chance the vibe still goes on. There are occasional (and a bit more moderate) jazz nights, check the schedule on the FB page."

"Zhovten Cinema, Podil. The small but irresistibly charming Zhovten cinema has a unique old spirit, cheap tickets, art-house movies, and, of course, velvet seats. Also, “Dolce vita” hall only accommodates three seat rows and feels like your own personal cinema. Zhovten balances blockbusters with festival screenings and low-budget movies in the original language. Get a bottle of wine in the shop next doors and immerse into yet another scandinavian drama. And, to recover from it, drop in the recently opened Gastro cafe right in the cinema."

"Vagabond Cafe & Vintage Corner, Podil. A cosy vegan place owned by a guy from California, Nicholas, who serves excellent coffee, by the way. Open kitchen, rich menu with lentils soups, vegan rolls and soy milk. Vagabond is all about being friendly, honest and a little lost in the world. The guys invite musicians and artists for talks and exclusive concerts. But the main attraction is still soviet filmstrips screened with a projector on the walls."

"Living room, Podil. Take an average ruinpub and blend it with Ukrainian hospitality and you’ll get what Living Room could have been. Thankfully, it’s much better. The cafe/bar is literally assembled from the old furniture and semi-random artwork, a grand piano, and a flavor of the home-made carpathian wine. Tasty steaks, soups, chicken sandwiches, and amazing cheese plates will leave you satisfied, regardless of your food preferences. Traditional small concerts and even occasional theater plays are included."

"Espresso Holic and 29 Flowers, Podil. The girl who opened this place said “I wanted to create an unusual flower shop, unlike anything we have here, and fill it with an atmosphere of warm friendliness.” The flower shop cooperated with coffee makers. And the coffee is so good that even locals from neighboring areas come here for a long black or flat white. This is not just a place with flowers. This is a place where you can come, buy a bouquet (or don’t buy), drink a coffee while your bouquet is being prepared, talk to locals and feel the laid-back rhythm of a small town in the middle a big city."

"Honey, Podil. Locals drop by Honey every now and then for a sweet treat. We recommend tasting eclairs. Try any stuffing – all are good. If you are not much of a sweet tooth, they still have a lot to offer. Honey serves salads, soups, appetizers, main dishes, sandwiches, and pies. But even those kind of dishes are inevitably accompanied by a note of something sweet. For example, fillet mignon with chocolate sauce or sandwich with beef and sweet pepper marmalade. "Mural in Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Podil. A unique street art piece arrayed the wall of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy second building. The painting was made by a Ukrainian artist Vladimir Manzhos from the team "Interesni Kazki" and a French artist, Julien Malland. Inscriptions of the painting were accomplished by Ukrainian calligraphy specialists Victoria and Vitalina Lopuhiny. The project was supported by the French Embassy in Ukraine, the French Institute and the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) as the part of the festival "French Spring 2013"."

A beautiful mural 15-meter-tall Ukrainian girl in a wreath was made by French and Ukrainian artists Julien Mallan and Alexei Kislov during French Spring in Kyiv. It took 60 liters of acrylic paint, about a hundred aerosol cans of different colors and two cranes and 11 days to make it."

"Pod asphaltom plag, Stare Misto. Here you can chill in a boat, or enjoy a cocktail at the table made out of a surfing board. “Everyone needs a beach” - say the owners, and offer a completely overhauled concept of a “bar”. You can find lots of things from the owner’s home collection: books, pictures, figurines, weird music instruments etc. Many of these things were bought at flea markets abroad.People come here when they want to go home, but don’t really want to go home. You can try various signature cocktails at the bar, and the menu varies by the season."

"Paul, Stare Misto. The Paul bakery is one of the bakeries of a chain, with stores in 31 countries. This restaurant serves genuine french dishes and pastry. "Kosatka, Stare Misto. This place is furnished and decorated by things that were bought at various flea markets in Ukraine, as well as abroad. Some pieces of decoration are hand made. There’s nice and warm vinyl music playing every weekend.The bar menu is pretty interesting. Owners call it “travel menu” - a mixture of world kitchens and huge portions. You can find delicious breakfasts, soups and salads, and a whole range of burgers and sandwiches here.
