"Famous Kyiv architect Horodetsky was brave enough to buy a part of a land on a very sharp hill to built this apartment house. His engineering talent brought a building which has 3 stories from one side and five from another but the main attraction here is a facade covered with a vast array of monsters. Everything is made with concrete, a surprising choice as for 1900s. The choice was a result or a dealing with concrete enterprise to promote that material. Tours inside are rare, but try to ask your local friends to arrange you one in advance." - DepositPhotos

"Created in 1902 by Vladislav Gorodetsky, an avid hunter, the animal-covered building was meant to be his living quarters, but Gorodetsky soon had to vacate the building due to money troubles. It changed many hands over the years, but currently is an official building of the Ukrainian President. When built in the early 20th century, it cost 133,000 rubles, which would be around a million rubles today. While some of the animals ornamenting the structure may be gargoyles, which are animal-like (or in this case, actually animal) waterspouts, meant to get water off already-heavy church roofs, most are grotesques, which are often just as gnarly as gargoyles, but are purely cosmetic." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

The bizarre early-1900s facade features sea creatures that seem to move when viewed from different angles. Original stained glass windows cast colorful patterns that shift throughout the day. The interior's parquet floors creak with distinctive tones in each room.

Fascinating architecture, and i don’t think I had ever seen anything quite like this. It’s a mix of classical, neoclassical, art deco, and so on. And it’s hugely successful-it ‘works’.

Beautiful and very unusual building. It has been previosly open only from one side, but now you can see its beauty from all the corners. The sculptures are amazing! Also you can make beautiful photoes near the entrance door.

Area is closed off by military personnel. You might be able to pass them from the right angle pretending local, but I'm not taking risks to be shot in unlucky misunderstanding. Basically, you can't visit this building.

As an American who traveled through Ukraine a dozen years ago, it has been inspiring to see your courageous defense and now counter attack against this unjust invasion. May you win the war decisively and soon!!
