Today LANGBRETT sells a big variety of handmade surfboards by internationally known shapers and skateboards handcrafted in the Ore Mountains. Its shoe collection is made out of military tents, car tires and cork as well as chromium-free and resource-efficient leather. The label from Hamburg bets on the sixties and concentrates on creating elegant clothing that is timeless and classy. "Groove City Record Store, Karoviertel. Music lovers are going to love the Groove City Record Store. The music scene in Hamburg is quite electric and caters to people of all tastes. The store almost covers every genre and sells mainly vinyl records of soul, funk, reggae, hip-hop, jazz, Latin, Afro and electro. CNN even announced the Groove City Record Store as one of the top ten world’s best record stores of all times."

"Trattoria Cento Lire, Karoviertel. The Trattoria Cento Lire on the beautiful square in front of the church “Gnadenkirche” offers excellent and original Italian food. Whether accompanied by the romance or family: the atmosphere here is always great and the staff is super friendly. Benvenuti in Italia!"

"XeÔm Vietnamese, Karoviertel. If you like Vietnamese food, Xeôm is the perfect restaurant for you. For some reason there are only a few good street Vietnamese spots in Hamburg. Here the food is incredible, the atmosphere great, the staff sweet and the prices fair. They also do take-aways. Try their iced green tea, Vietnamese coffee or homemade lemonade! You simply can't do anything wrong here. It's "Pho" real!"

"Gretchen's Villa, Karoviertel. Mint green, flowery wallpapers, wooden furniture and affectionate details - Gretchen’s Villa is a very comfy, warm place where it always smells like coffee and fresh croissants. Whether for breakfast, lunch or coffee time – rarely there are any available seats right away. However it’s worth coming by to try; you might be lucky to get some homemade cookies, cakes or small dishes like pasta or salads. Whoever finds at table to sit wouldn’t want to leave so soon. Right next to Gretchen’s Villa owner Stefanie has opened her confectionery "Gretchen's Zuckerbude", where you can buy yummie pastries, jam, jewellery or other delicacies."

"Karo Fisch, Karoviertel. If you’re a fish lover, you definitely picked the perfect town. Hamburg has a lot of excellent seafood restaurants to offer. The Karo Fisch is a very small, informal place but always busy with great cooking. It has several types of fish - everything is fresh and tasty! Whether you order grilled fish, salmon, scampi, sushi or just fish & chips – you’ll get a lot for your money and the service is absolutely kind!"

"Kunsthaltestelle, Karoviertel. The Kunsthaltestelle (art station) offers stylish and unique designer products, illustrations and photographs. Maritime motives, original jewellery, home accessories, numerous colourful postcards and much more. Here you can find wonderful gifts or - if you're looking for something special - the perfect thing for yourself. Every 4th Friday of the month there is the Exhibition Friday where you can admire different designers and their work plus enjoy some music, drinks, snacks and a wonderful evening. Also regularly being offered are creative workshops and Spanish courses."

"Lockengelöt, Karoviertel. The production design manufactory Lockengelöt “upcycles” old everyday items under environmentally fair conditions. Closets made out of oil drums from Hamburg’s harbor, wall lamps hand-crafted out of vinyl, or key hooks and wardrobes manufactured out of books – everything made by the three creative inventors' hands in Hamburg. Since four years they've been creating unique and timeless objects that bring people joy for a very long time. In case you simply can't seperate yourself from an old, scratched vinyl or anything else: Special designs and particular challenges are always welcome!"

"Koch Kontor, Karoviertel. Pasta with shrimp-lime sauce, spicy beef with spinach and udon noodles – such delicacies is Martina Oluf serving for lunch in her “Koch kontor”. What’s special: If her guests like her cooking, they can directly buy the recipe; the “Koch Kontor” is a lovely arranged cookbook shop that offers lunch specials along with homemade cakes during midday and cooking courses in the evening. It's just the latest example of a small boom – already seven such bookstores exist in Germany. Cooking has become a big trend – and that trend is spreading."

"HOT DOGS, Karoviertel. If you’re looking for vintage sneakers there is no other way than visiting Noah in his second hand store “HOT DOGS”. He’s a very cool, friendly guy and proudly talks about his business selling a huge range of the recent decades’ sneakers often still packed up in their original boxes. Apart from shoes you can buy captain hats, leather bags, jackets, denim, tracksuits and sunglasses – true collector items!"

"Café Klatsch, Karoviertel. “Café Klatsch” is a cozy café in the Karo district, where the atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming. Whether it’s the homemade farmer salad with delicious organic scrambled eggs and grilled tomatoes, avocados with lemon and salmon, or a hearty slice of organic bread with fresh cream cheese – Café Klatsch has everything to offer for the perfect breakfast. They also serve pasta, soups, warm waffles and yummy homemade cakes. This is just the perfect spot to escape the hectic rush of the city."

"Oberhafen Kantine, Speicherstadt Hafencity. The little house sitting on the quay wall is the oldest and last harbour canteen. Build in the 20s, dockworkers came here to get their morning coffee or afternoon lunch. It had a moved history including a surge, which left the whole house on a crooked angle. This gives you a subtle sense of defying gravity once you enter. Inside you find a cozy environment with a bar, booths to sit in and slanted lamps (well, everything else is slanted). On the menu you find a selection of regional and seasonal dishes, also with several vegetarian options, all prepared inhouse. Fresh ingredients are a must, so they come from carefully selected local farmers with ecological farming. But even if you are not hungry, you can go by for a coffee, tea or drinks after a stroll through the Speicherstadt. The second floor is decorated more fancy and is available for reservations."

"Hanseatische Materialverwaltung, Speicherstadt Hafencity. If you need any material or prop for your next project and are short on money the Hanseatische Materialverwaltung (hanseatic administration of materials) is the place to go. The old warehouse is stuffed from top to bottom with any props, objects and oddities you can think about. The staff is super friendly and will help you navigate and find things in the big hall. But the most likable aspect is the concept behind it. They act on a very social and ecological agenda. All their inventory is rescued from the dump or donated before movie or theatre productions throw it away. They maintain low prices so especially schools, artists, students or social institutions can realize their ideas and projects."

"Oldtimer Tankstelle Brandshof, Speicherstadt Hafencity. In between train tracks, highway overpasses and industry buildings you find this lovely gem. This old gas station let's you travel back in time. While they check and inspect your classic or vintage car you can have a snack, cake, coffee or refreshment in the bistro – for a really fair price. The cozy room brings you right back to the 50s with its lovely decoration, details and furniture. On the weekends collectors and car lovers meet here to discuss and show off their newest additions. From the main station you can reach the Tankstelle Brandshof by a 30 minute walk along the Elbe, if you like an industrial skyline."

"Elbphilharmonie, Speicherstadt Hafencity. Well this is kind of the "problem child" of the city. The concert hall was built on top of an old storage house, which now holds apartments and a hotel. Besides its controversial design, it bears quite some scandal. Construction began 2007 with an estimated cost of 77 Million Euro and opening date of 2010. Now it will open late 2016/early 2017 and cost the tax payers around 789 Million Euro. You do the math. Although the building is located in the Speicherstadt, we recommend to go to the other side of the Elbe through the old tunnel for a more spectacular view."

"Internationales Maritimes Museum Hamburg, Speicherstadt Hafencity. What would a maritime city like Hamburg be without a maritime museum. The entry fee might seem a bit high for 12,50 € but you get 10 stories full of everything a sea lover can dream of. Including 40,000 miniature ships, 1,000 bigger models and the second oldest message in a bottle. Even the building itself is impressive. Of course the obligatory book shop with calendars and books isn't missing.Plenty of exhibits to spend an entire rainy day (of which we have a lot of)."

"Gröninger Privatbrauerei, Speicherstadt Hafencity. One of the oldest breweries in Hamburg. If you want the «traditional german» experience, this is the place to go. In this dark and moody cellar you get hearty german food and beer. From the front the place seems really small, but the back extends throughout the whole block. You won't have any problems if you go there for lunch, but prepare to find it packed on weekend evenings."

"Dialog im Dunkeln, Speicherstadt Hafencity. This exceptional exhibition throws you out of the routine on how most people perceive the world. Here, blind hosts lead small groups through totally dark rooms and let you discover everyday situations and places (created only through smell, sound, temperature and texture) in a totally different light; social roles get reversed and a new view on the world opens up.Apart from the exhibition a dinner in the dark and team building courses are offered."

"Speicherstadt Kaffeerösterei, Speicherstadt Hafencity. There are some mornings when we are escorted to our office by the lovely scent of freshly roasted coffee. If you'd follow the scent this is where you would end up! Offering more than 20 different sorts of beans, there's the perfect coffee for everyone. Stop by for a fresh taste or pop into their shop to get a pack for your home. Our favorite is the [Orang Utan coffee](http://www.orang-utan-coffee.com) – not only because of its taste but because we like the idea of supporting the social project behind it.In the back of the big cozy room you can watch the employees roast and process the coffee while you drink yours."

"Lieblingsplatz, Speicherstadt Hafencity. This place impresses with freshly baked bread, pastries and cakes. It also has quite a few nice lunch options, all prepared before your eyes. For example salads, omelets and sandwiches. We mainly head there for their "Münchner Freundschaft" – a Leberkäse sandwich originally from Bavaria is enjoyed here in the north too. With the pickles, onions and sweet mustard it is kind of a bavarian hot dog. The big windows let you get the best of the winter sun (if there is any)."

"Fleetschlösschen, Speicherstadt Hafencity. The small but charming Fleetschloesschen is located right on the edge of where Speicherstadt joins Hafencity. Today the former customs house is a nice spot for breakfast, coffee or a sweet treat. They also have a simple lunch menu with weekly offers of typical (north) German dishes. Good spot for an after work beer or cocktail as well!"
