Mexican Street Food: 5 Essential Dishes to Eat - AFAR

"A Guadalajara torta specialist that grew from a street stall in Providencia into multiple city locations with a devoted following; celebrated for Jalisco's torta ahogada—plump bolillos filled (commonly with potato and chorizo) and drenched in a tangy tomato sauce, finished with cabbage, crema and cheese." - Meagan Drillinger

"The torta ahogada , or drowned sandwich, is a Mexican specialty that can only be authentically sampled inGuadalajara—the salt used to make the distinctively dense, crusty bread comes from the region. The sandwich is filled with meat (usually carnitas) and drenched in a spicy salsa but, because of its hearty toll, manages to soak up the sauce without getting soggy. For the best version, head to small chain Tortas Toño, which has eight locations across Jalisco."

Tasty carnitas! They offer tortas and tacos, they have now panela cheese and shrimp. You need to order and pay first, then collect your food and beverages. Open seating and toppings available for your order such as beans, cabbage, salsa, chile and lime. The service could improve, the staff is moody and the floor is really dirty, they need to work on cleanliness.

Good tasting torta. Got mine with everything. Didn't like the fact that you have to prepare your own. Not a fan of people serving themselves. Won't be back.

Tasty sandwiches and good prices. Make sure to get the sauce for the sandwiches as a bread is tough without it.

A must when in Guadalajara. It was packed when I went, but we got our food pretty quick, I deleted my torta picture by accident!
