Mister Jiu's serves an upscale twist on Cantonese classics in a stunning Chinatown space, where every bite is a creative nod to California's bounty.
"A star restaurant in San Francisco featuring Tsar Nicoulai caviar on its menu." - ByBecky Duffett
"Chef Brandon Jew’s ambitious Chinese American restaurant in the heart of Chinatown continues to shine, retaining its status as the only Michelin-starred Chinese restaurant in California. Though Jew, who also won a James Beard Foundation Award for Best Chef: California 2022, has gone on to introduce a number of new projects, Mister Jiu’s is the original favorite. Walk up to the bar to order a la carte or make reservations to enjoy the tasting menu, which comes with your choice of “communal entree” like the popular roast duck platter with peanut butter hoisin." - Lena Park, Eater Staff
"Mister Jiu’s is a Michelin-starred contemporary Chinese American restaurant and bar located in San Francisco's historic Chinatown. It is renowned for its signature Liberty Farms Peking-style whole roast duck served with savory pancakes, peanut butter hoisin, cucumber, and cilantro. Chef Brandon Jew’s five-course, seasonal tasting menu is offered banquet-style in the dining room, with an a la carte version available at select tables and the bar." - Tim Newcomb
"It was a big deal for San Francisco when James Beard Award-winning chef Brandon Jew took over the historic Four Seas banquet hall space and opened an ambitious Chinese-American restaurant in the heart of Chinatown. The dining room remains a green-and-white gem of the neighborhood, even following a light renovation earlier this spring. Jew also introduced a new prix-fixe menu format with the option to add on banquet-style plates like some of San Francisco’s best roast duck served with peanut butter hoisin, along with cocktails, beer, and cider." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
"Mister Jiu’s serves traditional Chinese dishes remixed with Californian twists, like dutch crunch pork buns and uni cheong fun. They recently switched to a five-course tasting menu ($145) in the main dining room, which feels like the new generation’s version of a grand traditional banquet hall. But the tasting menu can be hit or miss. We prefer scooting into a bar stool, where you can pick and choose the hits from the a la carte menu, like puffy sourdough scallion pancakes and the whole Peking duck with peanut butter hoisin. When you’re done, head upstairs to their sister cocktail bar Moongate Lounge, the sexiest place in the neighborhood for a nightcap spiked with lapsang or orange blossom.
