I would give Freddy's 10 stars if I could, as it is absolutely our favorite spot for dinner in Paris. We were there on our honeymoon earlier this month, and we would have gone there for dinner every night if we didn't have other reservations planned already.
It's a trendy tapas/small plates place located in the St.Germaine area (6th arrondissement) which is foodies' heaven. We checked it out on our second night in Paris due to its proximity to our hotel upon a friend's recommendation. they don't take reservations and the space is tight with open air concept and no AC (or very minimal AC), so if it's a hot sweltering day I would recommend finding a seat away from the grill in the open kitchen in the back. There's only 1 or maybe 2 tables for larger parties of 4-6 people, with the rest being bar seats along the walls. The menu is in french only but most of the waitstaff speak English so just ask them to translate. The music by the way, is amazing if you like 90s music.
First night we were there pretty late, we had probably the worst waitress they had, but luckily the other awesome waitstaff pitched in and kind of took over for her, so we immediately fell in love. But because of her terrible service at the beginning, by the time we realized they had razor clams on the menu, the couple that just came in and sat down next to us had ordered the last order! I was really disappointed, but then the other waiter came back and handed us a half "complimentary" order cause that's all they had left - I was ecstatic, as it was one of the best clams I've ever tasted, which is why when we went back the next night we ordered 2 orders of it! Next, we had steak with chimichurri sauce which was amazing, would have ordered it again the second time we went but they had changed the menu and made a wagyu steak instead. It was also delicious but we liked the one wth chimichurri sauce better. We also tried the ceviche which we didn't realize was made with watermelon and not seafood, but even though it was a little odd (had garlic and cilantro etc in it), we still thought all the flavors went together very well and devoured it. Grilled pork was next, and while it was good, the duck definitely was the best ever - and that means something when we have travelled all over china just a couple of months ago and had duck at every meal in every way possible. It was a piece of duck meat (probably around 4oz) grilled to perfection, we loved it so much we ordered 2 and almost a 3rd on our second visit! We also tried the mackerel the first night - it was excellent like everything else, but not something we would order again given all the other wonderful dishes we love more. Also tried the falafel - surprisingly good. It was on the appetizer menu along with cheese and meats etc which we didn't understand for the most part, but i understood the word "falafel"!
Freddy's is a must if you ever visit Paris, especially if you want amazing food at reasonable prices. Every time we were there, we would share a bottle of wine and eat until our hearts' content, and it would only be $80-100. Quite honestly, the food is so fantastic that we would be willing to pay double that! But I'm glad they understand the true meaning of tapas, since for some reason, all the tapas places in the Buffalo area are charging exorbitant amounts for subpar food. FYI - Parisians eat late (after 8-8:30pm) so if you don't want to have to wait for a spot, try going early.
