"This West Texas spot went from local hang to destination restaurant seemingly overnight, where Texans and out-of-staters drive out to Marfa just to see what's smoking that weekend. Mark Scott and his wife Kaki opened the joint in 2017 with partners Adam Bork and Katy Rose Elsasser (who makes their icebox cakes and other desserts), and quickly gained acclaim for their creative sides and flavorful meats. The all-beef links and brisket tacos are local favorites, and they try to keep all of their sides vegetarian so everyone can enjoy the menu. Sides vary, and some favorites are sweet potato salad, curried green beans, and blue cornbread." - Kristy Alpert

The barbecue was phenomenal although they were out of brisket when we got there. Sides were great. Carrot Dip Dip is fantastic. Some things to note: -There is no indoor seating and the outdoor seating lacks shade. -They do not have ice, so if you are getting water with your meal, expect it to be hot. You may want to order a drink rather than getting water so that it’s cold. -The dill pickles are more like bread and butter pickles, not true dills. -The staff is super nice and helpful, but with as busy as this place gets, things can be a bit slow.

10/10 carrot dip dip. I’ve never tasted anything quite like this. I really like that it wasn’t excessively sweet and seasoned with exotic spices. I could feel the carrot shining through. Easily the star of my dinner here much to my surprise. 8/10 the other sides. The corn was mid compared to the corn I had at Valentina’s in Austin. It just felt bland and it had too much going on. It was also a little too dry. I thought the curried beans were too bland as well but after a while they grew on me. The were cold and I needed something to counteract the overly salty brisket. 6/10 brisket. The cut of brisket was good, but it was waaaaay too salty. I did ask for burnt ends but I’ve never had burnt ends this salty before. I also felt some off flavors on one of the slices I got. Lastly no matter how much I tried sniffing around I wasn’t satisfied with how smoky the brisket felt. I saw a smoke ring but that was about it. 6/10 brisket tacos. There was too little brisket and too much other stuff. The brisket was simply overwhelmed by the sour cream and cheese, in stark contrast to what I observed at Valentina’s where the brisket played a starring role. 10/10 service. Everyone was super nice, and the bbq spot itself is a quaint establishment with a cute small-town vibe where the regulars are welcomed like old friends. It pains me to give this spot 3 stars because the carrot dip dip was phenomenal. But this is a bbq spot in Texas. Brisket is what matters. — @eddythefoodcritic

Google
What? No brisket? Wasn’t even on the menu, which was a shocker since all the reviews bragged about it, and the reason we spent our 1 dinner there while in Marfa. Tri-tip was just ok, but it’s a poor meat choice for bbq. Where’s the brisket?!. Sauce provided was just ok. Dip dip was tasty. Potato salad sweet and surprisingly tasty. Cornbread was outstanding. All outdoor seating which is nice, but it looked like they had indoor seating that they weren’t using - prob fear from Covid days, but I think we’re past that. Seems our expectations were too high. 4 stars is generous by Texas BBQ standards.

Google
Brisket was moist, cooked perfectly and cut in generous slices. The sauce had the perfect level of spice. The brisket boudin sausage had a great balance of flavors and texture. The homemade pickles and onions were delicious and the sides - sweet potato salad, garlic green beans and the carrot dip - were thoroughly enjoyable. The weather was crisp and cool so we ate at one of the outside tables and loved how everything came out on treys so deliciously arranged. It’s clear the owner is tremendously talented and takes great care in creating an unforgettable BBQ experience in Marfa. Highly recommend!

Delicious BBQ! Ribs fell right off the bone and were seasoned to perfection! The turkey was also delicious! First time having sweet potato salad and I was not disappointed... It was awesome! Washed it all down with an ice cold beer just topped off the experience!

Google
The most divine BBQ I've ever had, hands down, no doubt. The brisket here is heavenly: moist and incredibly tender, with a buttery quality that insists you say "wow!!" after each.and.every.bite. The collard greens are true Collard Queens, with a sweetness that elevates then to some next level kinda veggies. Even the veggie garnishes are amazing, particularly the pickled red onions. Please, do yourself a favor and experience this flavor firsthand. It may just be the best decision you make all year.

Google
Delicious BBQ and great service! We went during spring break, and the food was great. The brisket was really good, and the all beef frito sausage was one of a kind. If you like pickles, ask for the extra side order…the pickles are made there! Convenience West is listed in Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ list, and lives up to the ranking. Definitely plan to stop here if you’re visiting West Texas/Marfa. I believe it’s only open Friday and Saturday evenings! There is no indoor dining, you’ll park, get in line, order food at the front. Picnic tables are outside! The BBQ was worth the wait!

Google
As a Texan I've had my fair share of great bbq from Lockhart to Franklin's and can confidently say that Convenience West holds their own. The brisket tacos were good and the chicken was super tender, juicy and delicious. I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting bbq to go hear.

Yelp
Unfortunately, my husband and I did not get a chance to visit the Marfa location in person, but the pictures of it look amazing. We communicated with Mark and Katy-Rose via e-mail and ordered a brisket, ribs, sausage, and bbq sauce. We also ordered a separate brisket for my brother and sister in law. Let me just say this. When it comes to BBQ there are levels. Convenience West is at the highest level of BBQ (must be why it's on the TM Top 50 list). From first looks alone, we could tell the meat was of high quality. When we finally got around to reheating it, we were treated for some top tier BBQ. CW is very unique in their style of BBQ. If I were to say it's very West Texas, would you know what I mean? Large mesh black pepper, whole garlic, and other spices. Everything was smoked to absolute perfection. The brisket literally puts a smile on your face as you eat it. From flat to point and point to flat, it's outstanding. Fat rendered perfectly, collagen broken down, and the bark. That bark is outrageous. Mark skips the garlic powder and goes straight for real garlic. Yup! It makes a difference. We served these meats at our Memorial Day BBQ. Everyone raved about the meats. When we cut open the brisket and served it there was nothing but complete silence and huge smiles. Mark, you make a MEAN brisket. The sausage was also outstanding. It looks quality and it is quality. Man, it's got some kick to it to. The kind of kick that lets you know you're alive, but keeps you coming back for more. The sausage was a crowd favorite. And the ribs. Not over cooked, more cooked to competition style, where there's some bite to the ribs, but pulls cleanly off the bone. A very simple, pepper heavy rub coated the ribs. The smoke taste was heavy and strong on these and I'm not talking dirty smoke either. These are some outstanding ribs. I loved them with the CW bbq sauce drizzled on them. I can't believe we were able to get this level of BBQ mailed to us. Mark and Katy-Rose made the process extremely easy and shipped on time. I can't wait for the next time we are in Texas because we are going to take a trip out to Marfa for some CW bbq. Also, I just wanted to add that my family that received the other brisket are bbq aficionados. They LOVED the brisket.

Yelp
It is only fitting that I end my epic journey to try all of the Texas Monthly Top-50 BBQ of 2022 at Convenience West. It was so good! It really was the fitting ending and tribute to a year long journey. Without hesitation, this was a top 2 in my own personal assessment of the 50. And that's hard to do! Since I only had one more to go, I wanted to cover my bases. I got there an hour early AND pre-ordered for 4:00. I got there early and waited. While I was waiting, I got to talk to most of the folks working there as well as the owners and I must say - they are my kind of people! Kind, friendly, quirky, cool, and totally into their profession. When I told them I was finishing by Top-50 with them, they seemed as happy as I was! Not only was I finishing here, but the food was EXCEPTIONAL. Read my reviews, I'm not a marsh mellow when reviewing. Yes, they certainly deserved it. The place is cool, stylish and clean. The bathrooms were the cleanest I've ever seen at a BBQ pit! Lots of seating outside under the shade, but I think most were like us and took it to go. What I truly enjoy the most here was the food. Most great BBQ joints have incredible BBQ in one or two items. The pitmasters here nailed each and every item and we tried quite a few. After a while, all the BBQ started to meld so we also started to differentiate based on the sides. I have to say, whoever designed and cooked these sides is an absolute genius!! These weren't just great. They were also very unique and the attention to detail was brilliant. I haven't seen this good of a partnership since Batman & Robin. Well, ok. That was the 70's version of the TV show. These folks are just as campy and cool! Let me go thru all the items we have while I'm sitting on this sofa groaning because I ate so much. It was my own fault to try to sample as much as I can. If I go into a meat coma, it was absolutely worth it. We stared with the Dip Dip. I almost forgot to order it. It wasn't on-line, but you have GOT to start with it. It is frankly, hard to describe. Think of it as a sweet (honey? molasses?) pureed carrots with pumpkin seeds and cilantro on top. Accompanied by a mess of Fritos to dip into it. This was sublime!! It was the best app I've had at a BBQ joint. This could hold it's own in almost any restaurant of any caliber. Brilliant!! My only desire is if they had used larger chips like the Frito Scoops so I could gorge myself more with each bite. After the appetizer, we started into the "meat course". First up was just a brilliant brisket. I have now had all of the Top-50. The bark on this was truly wonderful. I honestly think this is up there with Snow's, Franklins or Goldee's. I could not differentiate on this alone. Next up were the ribs. My God!! Someone patent whatever rub they were using. Even my dinner partner raved about it. I love a good meaty rib and this was that. Wasn't all greasy, just well cooked pork wonderland. Truly the park was brilliant. They were being kind to me. Well, I did tell them it was my birthday! Truly, it was. They gave me a couple slices of the most succulent, moist turkey. I loved it. I just can't wait to try the left overs tomorrow as breakfast tacos. I'm serious!! I ate so much I'm planning my next meal with the left overs. Finally (yeah, there's a finally) we had the Sausage. It was a Poblano-cheese savory goodness. It was so succulent with a crisp skin. Wow. Just smack me right now so I can wake up and keep eating this. I'm not kidding - I loved each and every one of these in their own way. Kind of like my children. If that weren't enough, we had to plow thru a few more sides. Like I wrote earlier. This was an absolute team event. The sides would have made a normal BBQ join good. These made Convenience West great. First up was the Sweet Potato Salad. Imagine a great, normal - nothing fancy, nothing crazy potato salad. The one your Aunt makes that you always eat. Now replace the pedestrian potatoes with fresh sweet potatoes. It was brilliant and good. Wasn't gooped up with added sweetness like most sweet potato fries. Not drowned out of flavor with mayonnaise. Just a brilliant simple sweet potato salad. Finally (again), the side of Cajun beans. EVERYONE has a side of beans. I've tried them all. I must admit (hate me now) that I love southern style baked beans. Sweet & with bacon in them. Most Texas BBQ spots use Charro beans. It's a staple and many I adore. These were more southwest. Truly used red beans. Not the stewy, mushy mess of Cajun/red beans that have become ubiquitous these days. These were fresh. Clean. I could almost sense I was in the Davis mountains. It wasn't in there but I could imagine the sage country from these. You know when the food critic in Ratatouille cried at the end. I now know why. Last, but not least - I warned you - we had the Tortilla Toffee as a dessert. I could only try two bites, but I assure you it is now guarded in my fridge! OMG this was the BEST birthday dessert ever.

Yelp
Absolutely loved this place. We tried the tri tip, brisket tacos, sweet potato salad, and the adventure bowl. Everything was delicious, including the pickles!

Trina W.

Yelp
Absolutely is the best bbq in all of Texas! Can't believe I never left a review before today. Try everything! But if you're just visiting for a short amount of time and can only get one meal while you're there I highly recommend the ribs, the brisket and the corn. Seating is outside and the line can get long but there is water outside for you to grab a cup. Also, once they sell out that's that. Only open Friday and Saturday. We're 6 hours away and it's worth the trip to marfa just for the bbq alone.

Yelp
Arrived in Marfa Texas and went straight to Convenience West to line up to get some Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ. We arrived around 4:35 and the place opens at 5:00pm till sold out on Friday's. Husband & I are driving around Texas eating BBQ that made the Texas Monthly Top 50 BBQ spots and it had been a long day as we woke up Friday in El Paso dressed and had lunch at a BBQ in El Paso. We have been on the road since Wednesday and this is BBQ place 5 out of 6 on this trip. It is Friday in Marfa Texas and the sign says to wait/line up till 5pm unless you have a pick up order. Tip: next time place order ahead of time, as the locals do. As waiting in the desert heat is HOT. I have to be honest the person working the window to place orders needs a personality as he just wanted to know my order, take my money and bye, next. So the process here is you wait in line to place your order, then you order and pay. They get your name and you wait for them to call your name out to get your order. We decided to get our food to go as it had been a LONG day on the road. ( time change from El Paso to Marfa Texas and we lost an hour) We got brisket ( it was ok) sausage ( just ok) ribs( they were good) blue cornbread ( yes, please) tortilla ( not, just ok like perhaps made @ HEB). The food is ok. Remember to ask for silverware and napkins because they do not include this if to go. This is outdoor dining from what we saw with picnic tables and benches and tarps that covered them. It was a very hot day and not much shade. I feel we made the best decision for getting it to go.

Yelp
CW is so near and dear to me. I dread leaving marfa and my barbecue brothers. Katie Rose's desserts are insane, Mark is the meat keeper and Khak and Ben are hospitality queens. You are lucky to go to this place if you have the chance

Joshua H.

Yelp
Solid place in town if not the only good place in town to get fantastic bbq plates and sides. Very good meats and tons of side options. Fast pick up for order ahead option. Adjacent seating at picnic tables after 5pm. 4-5pm you can get to go orders if you order days ahead which we did. Super kind server works there to. She rocks! Frito pie sausage is dope! Get that for something different. The house bbq sauce is also very good!

Yelp
Another Texas Monthly Top 50 joint visited and in the books. Today we are in Marfa enjoying Convenience West. They are open only Friday and Saturday, and get this, from 5PM (not AM) til 9pm or when they run out. Got here today at 4:45pm and we were first in line! I just want to say out the gate this is an easy 5 star situation. Just wow!!!! The brisket was super moist and juicy, perfectly cooked with a distinctive smoke ring and a super crispy bark... just the way I like it! My only note is the bark is a super salt bomb. I had to eat around it on some of my bites, but if you like salt you'll love this! My ribs were the pinkest I have ever seen. I think entire meat of the rib was a smoke ring! My turkey was just what you want, moist and not overly brined or salted. The chicken (yardbird) was also nice, moist and super smoky. But if you want some you better get there early because I think they like ran out by eighth or ninth customer lol. The sausage....omg the sausage was clearly homemade oozing with cheese and chiles and I don't know if it's actually in there but I can taste beer or some kind of alcohol in it.. and I liked it. I got the brisket tacos because they make their own flour tortillas and it was definitely a good choice. My wife who is not a brisket fan loved the tacos. The broccoli salad was kind of a typical broccoli salad and the elote salad was definitely strong enough to carry its own. The real show stopper was the blue cornbread. It's regular cornbread marbled with blue maize cornmeal and it's omg delicious and only $1. This cornbread was savory not sweet and it's exactly what the doctor ordered. The pickled cucumbers were refreshing and the pickled onions were some of the best I've ever had (other than my own ) Get to Marfa and come get some!!!! Photo credit to my amazing wife Brooke

Yelp
Not open on a Saturday night at 5pm. No notice. No sign. Nothing on their facebook or website. Would have been nice to have a heads up....

Yelp
Best barbecue I've had in a minute!! I was worried about the line but we got there just after 5 on a Friday and didn't have many in front of us. The woman taking orders was literally the nicest, especially when the rest of Marfa had been so off putting. Ordering was easy and prices were what I expected. We ordered half a pound of brisket, green chile corn, and the cornbread. Also got some nice cold drinks since it was a warmer day in early March. All the seating was outside and totally exposed which was a bit much even on a mild sunny day. Wish they would put up some sun shades or something. Our food was delicious! Brisket was moist with a flavorful bark. Really up there with the best. The corn was tasty but nothing amazing. The cornbread was actually phenomenal haha. I don't know what kind of magic happened there. Overall super happy with this spot!

Christine H.

Yelp
The reviews for this restaurant are too generous. Locals told us that this was the best place for food in town, and the Yelp reviews made this place seem like it was the best barbecue ever. It was not the best barbecue I have had, but it was still good overall. There was no line when we got there around 7 pm on a Saturday. Luckily, my family and I were able to get the last bit of brisket with some sides even though the sausages and cornbread were already sold out. The carrot dip came in a large portion, tasted like hummus, and was a good purchase! Surprisingly, the kale salad was delicious and one of the best I have had! The sweet potato salad was creamy, cold, and subtly sweet. The green chili cream corn was fine but was nothing special. The brisket was tender, fatty, and juicy. However, I do not recommend the sauce for the brisket because it tasted like vinaigrette salad dressing. The customer service was welcoming and friendly. There were a limited number of parking spots. Additionally, they closed the indoor seating due to covid pandemic. The outdoor seating had a lack of lights, so it was fairly dark. It was hard to see what exactly we were eating. I'd recommend for the restaurant to invest in some outdoor lights for customers.

Sasa P.

Yelp
We had their catering at a biking event and it was stellar. A really nicely flavored corned beef sandwich that had sweet notes of caramelizing and savory hints of mustard and sauerkraut. The sweet potato salad it was paired with was on point too. And right when I thought it couldn't get better, the cookie to finish it off blew my mind. I didn't think I'd enjoy what looked like a cinnamon raisin cookie, but it had the perfect balance of chewy, crispy, salty, sweet, and with some orange bits of what looked like another fruit or jelly within. Seriously, I could've eaten 5 of them.

Lauren F.

Yelp
There are very few things in life that I will drive 1.5 hours out of my way for, but delicious BBQ does make that list. It definitely pays to get here early to get your choice of everything on the menu, we were actually the first ones to order the day we went, and ended up getting in line to order more brisket togo before leaving. The menu does change some, but if the dip dip is on the menu when you go, it is a must order! We had a sausage link, ribs and of course brisket tacos! Everything was delicious! I would definitely recommend adding it to your list if you are anywhere close!

Julia P.

Yelp
Wow. Definitely coming back next time we're in Marfa. Try to get here early if you can; expect lineups (part of the experience). Everything is delicious and perfect. A combination of traditional BBQ goodness and foodie twists on classics. So fun!

Lisa A.

Yelp
Convenience West lives up to the hype (and their excellent Yelp rating). I heard about their barbecue and sides via Chef Pati Jinich's social media. Pati has a cooking show on PBS. She was visiting El Paso and various Texas cities for some weeks. My grandparents like her show and I do too, now. Unfortunately I didn't bump into her in the street but I'm glad she visited! Pati raved about Convenience West so I wanted to check it out. El Paso is sort of limited on good barbecue places so I was excited to stop by. They require you to order a couple of days in advance for pickup on their website. They may have a few extra items available if you aren't able to order ahead of time. I met some peeps from Houston in the line. They hadn't ordered ahead of time but were still able to get some brisket and other foods. The menu is a little bit different on the two days they're open (Fridays and Saturdays). I decided on the brisket sandwich kit (it came with sour dough, sweet pickles, BBQ sauce for 2 sandwiches) along with an elote (corn on the cob), a mini strawberry pie and two bottles of soda (sides and sodas are separate costs). They also sell craft beer and wine. There's other kinds of meats like sausage, ribs, pulled pork. The total was about $40 and change. Everything tasted fresh and popped with flavor! I would've liked for the brisket to have less fat. It was amazing when I took it off. It was flavorful and moist. Maybe I should've mentioned that I'd like lean brisket. I'll remember that for next time. The sour dough was spectacular! It was so soft and it tasted buttery. The buns didn't get soggy with the brisket and BBQ sauce. You know brisket is legit when it can stand alone without the sauce or anything else. The brisket didn't need the sauce but I threw it on there for more flavor. The BBQ sauce tasted peppery and a tad bit sweet. The elote was alright. It was grilled yellow corn. I loved the pie's crust. The pie tasted sweet and sour. I would've liked a little bit more sugar in the filling. The service was great! The young man who was helping me out was kind and friendly. Ordering from their website was straightforward and painless. I will definitely come back! The 2+ hour drive from El Paso is definitely worth it! Highly recommend! P.S. The food tastes just as amazing cold! I guess I no longer have to drive 9 or 10 hours for tasty BBQ. We have New Mexico BBQ too but I mean in Texas.

David A.

Yelp
Best brisket in Texas. I've lived in Texas for 27 years, and ate plenty of brisket throughout this state. Their brisket and turkey are the best I've ever eaten.

Steven R.

Yelp
Oh my goodness, what can I say about this slice of heaven on earth? My fiancé and I are down here getting some wedding planning done and of course we had to come back to our favorite bbq place! We discovered Convenience last year when we came to marfa for our first trip. The food is 100% top notch. We of course got their very delicious brisket, and their HUGE frito pie sausage links! You can't go wrong with these bad boys! The flavoring they use on the brisket is damn good. It's smokey, spicy, a bit of salt, but cooked to perfection! The meat had a hearty smoke ring on it when you receive it! The sausages taste exactly like a great frito pie! They are jammed pack with all the fixings of a top tier sausage link! Do not forget the sides! We recommend the delicious boracho beans, the roasted cauliflower, and the sweet potato salad! All sides are cooked fresh, great flavoring and compliment the meats very well! PLEASE NOTE: you MUST now order ahead on their website to reserve this delicious food! And it's only drive up and pick up right now. But holy hell it's worth it all! If you're coming to Marfa, you best be coming to Convenience.

Dominique P.

Yelp
My fiancé and I are out in Marfa, finalizing our 2022 wedding and we had to pick up some of our favorite bbq. We made it to Convenience West pre-covid, January 2020, and enjoyed everything we ordered. Currently, you have to order via their website. Ordering begins on Wednesday's for Friday and Saturday pickup times. They try to have different menu items each day. We knew we were coming out to Marfa so I made sure I ordered us some amazing bbq. We ordered a pound of their brisket, frito pie sausages (came with 4 sausage links), sweet potato salad, pinto beans, roasted cauliflower, and an order of homemade tortillas. I was unsure of how I would feel about the sausage but it was stinkin good! The flavor was smoky and cheesy. The brisket.. oh my gosh it just fell apart and melted in your mouth. We got a piece of the burnt end which is my favorite. The brisket was perfect, juicy, smoky, and flavorful. I made a taco out of my brisket and I was happy! The bbq sauce had a nice tang to it. My favorite side out of all of them was the sweet potato salad. I've only had regular potato salad my whole life and having their sweet potato salad just changed the game for me. Luckily we have plenty of leftovers for tomorrow so I can't wait to experience this again.

Hannah S.

Yelp
This is a must if you are in Marfa! Make sure to show up 10-15 mins before 5 to miss the line and to make sure you get everything you want. Honestly, just try as much as you can it's that good!

Catherine B.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Carrot Dip Dip wow! Go Hungry! People so nice. Great outdoor spot!

Ella G.

Yelp
Must order ahead, or be prepared to get there early & stand in line! We arrived at 4:35 pm (25 min before open) and waited in line for about 20 minutes after open, and there was a HUGE line behind us! They sell out quick for good reason! Food was spicy & delicious. And the staff was very kind and willing to talk to each customer, great vibes.

Shradha A.

Yelp
Definitely pre-order and enjoy this bbq on Fridays! It's a newer kid on the block and slightly out of the town square but definitely a destination where the locals eat.

Max E.

Yelp
American BBQ that will legitimately ruin you for BBQ because one day you'll leave Marfa (perhaps, like me, back to Seattle) and you'll sit down at your favorite BBQ place a block from your home. But the food won't compare, especially after their burgers, and you'll get bitter and disappointed and you'll start circling your calendar counting down the days until you can get back out here.

Kate C.

Yelp
HOLY moly this place is THE BEST. I mean what a gem. The brisket tacos were out of this world and the brisket sausage was on another levelllll. If I ever go back to Marfa I'm headed straight for this place. 10/10 you gotta go now! Also we're v safe for covid- masks and takeout only.

Malorie W.

Yelp
Not sure how this placed ranked in the top 50 places for Texas bbq 2021. Brisket was way too fatty and was mushy. Sausage link was sub par. However, Bbq sauce was well balanced. The blue cornbread was great. The pickled onions were a great addition to the bbq. Would not recommend if you are a traditional bbq lover.

Andrew M.

Yelp
I feel like "convenience" is ironic. It's actually not that convenient because I think we were supposed to orders days before. I'm not really sure. HOWEVER, and it's a big however, the brisket is absolutely superb. We could only get brisket due to not ordering days in advance, but it was very good! The barbecue sauce was clearly home made and the added the perfect sweetness and acidity needed to balance that salty charred barbecue. Delicious! (Just plan ahead!)

David C.

Yelp
An above average barbecue place with great brisket and sausage. The sides left something to be desired, however, both in terms of selection as well as taste. Quality service.

Danish N.

Yelp
pov: it's been two years since you last visited Marfa and the first thing you want to do is get bbq. so you drive 9 hours from Houston, skip check-in and go straight here to find out they're on break until the day after you leave Marfa. a tear drops from your face. not because you almost ran out of gas getting there, but because now you're not sure what to do with your life now. you're hungry. tired. you want a hug. It's okay though. Two years later and I can still say it was the best BBQ I've ever had in Texas. There will always be a next time. Hope to be back soon.

Carla D.

Yelp
What an unexpected surprise! Awesome brisket on a bun and brisket tacos! Huge portions. Juicy and flavorful!

Hortense D.

Yelp
I am giving this place an easy 5 stars ! Everyone here was so Nice and welcoming ! We had just left another place we intended to go where they didn't speak or help us and left us hanging and this was near by ! Psh it was meant to be ! The food was awesome !!! Try the Mac side dish it was AWESOME ! So fresh and I could have loaded up on that for sure ! So glad we came here ! Let me add that their veggie option was an insane amount of good stuff ! So if you don't do meat , be aware this is one BBQ place for you too ! On a side note I will say I feel Like we saw the entire staff working through the city and it became our own little inside joke , until I asked a girl somewhere else .. " look I need to know do you work at the bbq place" and she laughed and filled me in on this being a regular occurrence ! Chalk it up to Marfa ! So nice ! So good ! Just GO !

Jennifer B.

Yelp
This food is amazing with super imaginative sides that are a unique spin on the traditional BBQ sides. The meat was well seasoned and perfectly tender.

Cameron M.

Yelp
Being a BBQ snob from Austin, I find it rare that a four or five-star BBQ joint actually lives up to their rating. I ordered a little bit of everything: brisket, sausage, sweet potato salad, cold-packed pickles, elote, and kale salad... ALL fantastic. The pound of brisket came with the point and flat, both tender and juicy and wonderfully seasoned. The burnt ends weren't burned (dry and leathery) like most joints. This is real BBQ, not the likes of the others that put their brisket on a pit for 4-6 hours and finish it off in a gas oven. Sausage is usually just a run of the mill all beef or beef and pork blend. The sausage was unique and super tasty and the casing had a nice snap to it. If you're a die-hard fan of 1-star BBQ's yellow mayonnaise salad (factory-made potato salad), white mayonnaise salad (factory-made coleslaw), and canned beans cooked up with last week's unsold brisket, then the sides here might be too adventurous for you. However, if you like fresh vegetables cooked up in a wonderful way, then load up on them. Everything on the menu is spot-on and noteworthy. Convenience West is worth every penny. Well done, folks!

Lambe' F.

Yelp
Great Brisket! Had it shipped in from Marfa to Austin, after visiting the bbq last winter! Awesome!

Ben V.

Yelp
Best food that we had in Marfa. Great brisket. Sides including collards and creamed corn were also great. Would have passed on the sausage since it was larger than anticipated and we could not finish. Only downside is limited hours and location on the edge of town. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Marfa.

Yelp
Run, don't walk to this restaurant! We visited several 4.5 star restaurants in Marfa that did not live up to their rating, but this one absolutely does! The brisket had an excellent rub and wonderful sauce. The sides were like none we have ever had....delicious sweet potato salad, beet salad and creamed corn. The only suggestion would be to leave the lemon rind out of the lemon pie....curd and crust were outstanding. Keep up the good work!

Yelp
So I'm gonna say it from the very beginning of this review! The best BBQ sandwich and potato salad I've ever sunk my teeth into

Yelp
Yum! Quick service and delicious, large portions. The sweet potato salad was a unique side. Would love to try the carrot cake next time!

Yelp
Our AirBnB host suggested we pre-order the BBQ 2 days in advance, as they are taking pre-ordered "to go" during this time of the Covid crisis and they often sell out. We have a LOT of great BBQ near Frisco and Dallas, where we are from. However, I have to say, these were the BEST ribs ever!! We got the apricot glazed rack and couldn't have been happier! So tender and flavorful!! They made our contactless pick up super safe and easy as we picked our time and they brought it to the car! The sides were great, including the kale salad.

Yelp
Brisket was excellent maybe the best in the state. Ribs were solid. Sausage and Turkey were good and the cornbread was fine

Yelp
Best barbecue ever!!! Get there early, because it's only open for a few hours & they sell out. We got the combo plate, which includes the pickles & pickled onions. Oh my gosh, the Mac & cheese!! The pickled onions!! You'll want to drive to Marfa just for this food!! The brisket was so tender & gigantic!! Yum!!!

Yelp
WOW! Brisket was on point! Great food! Wish I had been earlier the first day I went so they weren't sold out. I went right after they opened after learning the hard, about 15 min, and the line was from the register to the door. Great sides, the m&c was served cold which I didn't expect... but delicious. The brisket was moist and delicious, a savory exterior and so good I didn't even need the sauce. Good portion too. Ample seating indoors and out.

Yelp
If aliens landed and they said "hi earthling we want to taste American food" and I had one place to take them this would be it. We would come here and splurge on some of the best ribs and brisket on earth. And then they'd realize it's not worth destroying us. Our food is too good. What else can I say... The service is incredibly sweet. The sides are inventive and delicious. The vibe is understated and cool. It's everything I want out of a bbq joint. The music was good. The prices were good. The food was incredible. Can't say enough good things about this spot. We even got a tequila infused sorbet for dessert. Oh and did I mention the cornbread is gluten free. I'm celiac so this made my day. My wife and I are in a band and we travel all around the world seeking out great food. This place would be top 10 meals I've ever eaten. And number 1 American bbq. It's a work of art. Anthony Bourdain is gonna crawl out of the earth and storm this joint. It's that good. I'll be having dreams of this spot for months to come. Guess we'll have to come back to Marfa!

Yelp
So worth the wait. Best part of the trip. The sides were just as exciting. It's about time someone elevate bbq sides even though the meat was the star.

Yelp
Best Brisket Tacos ever. The manager and the staff were very nice. I had to get my order to go but It looks like a cool hangout

Yelp
Excellent all around! I've read they tend to sell out of meat, so we got there at 6pm on a Sunday. We got two brisket plates with cornbread, elote, sweet potato salad and green beans. Portions were generous! The brisket is tender, moist, with just the right amount of burnt ends. BBQ sauce is vinegar based with a hint of apple. They make their own pickles and pickled onions. This was the best meal we had while in Marfa.

Yelp
Popped in after checking out the Davis mountains state park. Fantastic brisket sandwiches and beer, lots of outdoor seating, great place to prop your feet up and rest.

Yelp
The only reason this place isn't getting five stars is because there was nothing but beans and pastrami left for me to eat, but eat it I did. You better get there early because the food is absolutely worth it. The pastrami was tender and moist...yeah, I said moist. The pinto beans were an actual bowl of happiness and I would drink that BBQ sauce on the daily if it was socially acceptable. The staff was as friendly as an old lady named Edith welcoming you into her home. Really cute vibe on the inside. Check it out. Now.

Yelp
Mouthwatering brisket sausage sandwich with sweet potato salad! The outdoor seating is covered. Definitely a must-try when in Marfa but double check hours of operation.
