Yeh’s Bakery in Flushing is a beloved, cash-only gem specializing in airy sponge cakes and pastries, perfect for picnics by the Botanical Gardens.
"Sponge cakes are the main attraction at this small Taiwanese bakery near the Queens Botanical Gardens. Their version of Boston cream pie—no chocolate, just two thick, airy slices of cake, stuffed with an ethereal whipped cream—has a dedicated fandom, and we’re proud members of the club. Yeh’s also makes ultra flaky cookies and mooncakes. We like to stock up on all our favorites, then have a picnic in the gardens when the weather is nice. "This Taiwanese bakery near the Queens Botanical Garden makes the birthday cake of choice for many families in Flushing: impossibly light cake (we like the green tea best) with not-too-sweet whipped cream frosting, simply but iconically decorated with with strawberries, cherries, kiwi, and peach slices. Grab a slice of their beloved Boston cream pie: two layers of extremely fluffy sponge cake with cream filling and a dusting of powdered sugar." - molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim, will hartman, willa moore, neha talreja
"Hits at Yeh’s Bakery are its freshly whipped Boston cream pie and fluffy green tea sponge cake, but when autumn comes around, locals head here for its Taiwanese mooncakes, like mung bean paste with dried pork, and Cantonese versions filled with lotus seed, prune, red bean or pineapple paste." - Caroline Shin
"Yeh's is most known for their fluffy, light, and perfectly sweet Boston Creme pies amongst other baked goods. Everyone in the neighborhood has most likely grown up eating their delicious Fruit Cakes, just look for the pink box and the red twine. Yeh's bakery is still to this day a small, mom and pop gem that is tucked away in downtown Flushing, right by the New York Hospital. Oh, and remember to carry cash!" - QNS MADE
"Yeh’s Bakery has been around in Flushing for a long time, and it's a birthday staple for many Asian Americans who grew up in the neighborhood. Though this Taiwanese bakery is best known for its Boston pie (picture a lighter, fluffier, spongier Boston creme), they also make airy, lightly sweetened pastries and cakes topped with fresh fruit. There's no seating, but it's near the Queens Botanical Gardens, so it's a good place to stock up on some ultra-flaky cookies and mooncakes before a picnic. photo credit: Kenny Yang" - Carina Finn
