Stopped in after my stay at The Royal Sonesta. It was SO good! Look, I’m not even that big in hotel restaurants, but this is NOT that. The flavor was so good. Everything melted in my mouth and it was clean and crisp look with chill atmosphere. Prices weren’t even insane. My lunch was $15! So I added a cornbread app, because why not. Lol! Glad I did. Stop by this place today.

My wife and daughters brought me here as a birthday surprise. I've heard of this restaurant but guess I never would have thought of coming down here. Sure glad we did, excellent food, service and atmosphere is pretty cool too. Super easy parking in the ramp as well right next to it!

Stopped by for a bite after exploring downtown MN and I probably had one of the best burgers I have had in a long time. When they brought to the bar top, just the aroma of the seared meat was incredible and mouthwatering. And when I bit into it, it was just done beautifully, moist and juicy and flavorful. Best 15$ I spent on this trip. The drink itself, Naked in Minneapolis, was meh and it was another 15$. I so wanted to go there the second night but decided my waist and wallet would complain

Great date night spot. Cocktails were pretty classic, but with some twists. The Rosemary Honeysuckle was delightful. The Duck Confit Stroganoff really hit the spot. Perfect amount of food. A step up from a classic stroganoff. Would eat again. The Brussels Sprouts were fantastic too. Not usually a blue cheese fan, but it wasn't overpowering in this dish and worked well. The Mesquite Grilled Steak Frites was perfection too. Came out perfectly rare (as ordered) and just melted in your mouth. Highly recommend a stop if you're going to a show nearby too. Great location and they rush things if you need. Very quick and diligent service.

Incredible food and super friendly staff. Everyone was checking on my table even if they weren't my usual waiter. The food was incredible and very rich. I had the Marrow Toast which was absolutely awesome and the Duck Confit Stroganoff which was a touch salty but the flavors were incredible otherwise. The drink selections were vast and interesting and overall it was a great experience. I would say the one minor complaint I had is that with so many rich dishes on the menu I wish there was a side salad option.

Very nice decor, and last night I had the 2nd best pork chop in my life. Manny, don't change the pork chops they are perfect! It was Friday night, and the place was full, I don't believe they have enough waitstaff to give the attention needed. Our waiter was Adland he was running back and forth, the next morning we had the breakfast, the coffee was cooked to long but the steak and eggs help me forget about all that

Wonderful location to eat before going to a Timberwolves game. Very cool dining area and energy. The full staff was incredible especially our server Morgan. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms which was recommended and we could have ordered 4 more orders for the meal. Will certainly be coming back!

This was a last minute choice for me but I’m happy I ended up having breakfast here. I had the steak and eggs. They have a house steak sauce which is delicious, it has a hint of horseradish. They also source most items locally including the cry baby Craig’s hot sauce. The venue is beautiful and they have 2 private dining rooms available for bookings. The manager Kristin is lovely and hospitable please stop by and tell her I sent you! Enjoy!

Full disclosure: this wasn't my first, or even second choice dinner, but sometimes circumstances lead you to unexpected goodness. I'd wanted to venture out a bit for dinner, but a monsoon volume of rain convinced me to stay within easy range of Nicolett Mall. Wood +Paddle is housed within a Sonesta. I thought Sonesta was a low budget brand, but the lobby's lux 60's vibe makes me want to rethink anything I might know about the chain. Likewise, the Wood + Paddle space surprised and exceeded my expectations. A very vibey, low key, warm space. A very welcoming host, and our server was just the epitome of service professionalism. Oh, and the food? The French Dip I ordered was on point, very enjoyable. And a good craft beer selection as well. All in all, sometimes a forced choice turns out to be a great choice!

I would come back just for the duck confit stroganoff. The stroganoff had a generous helping of duck which was so tender and delicious. The stuff mushrooms were also soo good. Just juicy and stuffed with deliciousness. The ambiance was nice for dinner, but being in a hotel it did give hotel bar/ restaurant vibes. The service was attentive but a little off. My husband agreed afterwards that the server kind of acted like he didn't work there. When I asked for recommendations he didn't have very confident recommendations.

Cocktail: Seven Cinns was delicious! Tasted like an apple pie cocktail. Appetizer: The skillet cornbread was not my favorite but the fried cheese curds were yummy! Entree: I had the Blue Cornmeal Crusted Walleye and I really liked it with the sweet corn relish and the green pea cream. It made the dish! I tried my husbands Duck Confit Stroganoff which was also very tasty!

I visiting for the first time. At a conference at the Marriott across the street. Decided to venture out for dinner and went across the way, so glad. I sat at the bar and ordered the olds fashion and the bison meatball. I highly recommend both. Service was amazing. Cap it off with the crème brule.

My husband is a sucker for bone marrow so I took him to Wood + Paddle eatery for his birthday. I made reservations a few days beforehand & we arrived to a really great table with an adorable reservation placard on the table. We went mid-week though so there were a lot of tables available & we could've easily walked in. Of course we had the marrow toast to start and then I ordered the steak and my husband had the pork chop. Everything was so incredibly well cooked!! My steak was so crispy from the grill marks and perfected by the flavored butter. My husband loved the marrow and his pork chop! The mixture of cranberry blended beautifully with the pork - sooo so good!!

This restaurant is more for picture purposes as the food was mid at best. Wings had little to no flavor and the only thing carrying it really was the sauce. The burger was the same way. The lemonade tasted like tap water and was barely sweet- kinda tasted like flavored lemon water without the sugar. The ambience is nice and I like how we can see the kitchen but to be honest I don't see myself back.

We were looking for a dinner place before the Wolves game and landed here. We had a reservation but it wasn't super busy on a Monday so plenty of tables to choose from. It's a nice cozy atmosphere with some high backed booths, a separate bar area and nice 4 person tables. Their menu is not extensive but we found plenty to choose from. I chose the lighter soup (minestrone) and Caesar salad. Both were good. I also had a bit of Husband's white fish (paddock) and that was tasty as well. This restaurant is part of a hotel. Service was well done and he got us out on time for our game . Good stop.

Food and service were great. The restaurant has lots of seating options, including a private room for a larger party.

Wow what a gem of a find. Staying at the Marriott I didn't want to venture far. Wood +Paddle had nice reviews so I hoped over for a late meal. Old fashioned outstanding. Corn bread app, amazing. The pork chop with a Chardonnay- Perfect. I will definitely be coming back! Highly recommend. And it's a nice setting too. Glad for my server's recommendations!

Staying at the Sonesta and not wanting to deal with the cold, rainy weather on this late evening, I decided to try W+P (only to realize that I'd been here years ago, when it was called Lake-something-or-other). Got the bison burger with a side salad. The burger was nicely cooked and presented, and the ghost pepper cheese was legitimately fiery, but the whole thing was too salty to be really enjoyable. (I'm glad I asked for the smoked ketchup and the bacon jam on the side; neither was needed, and neither was particularly compelling.) Disappointment with the food notwithstanding, service was attentive and professional, and I will try this place again on a future trip (but will order differently).

I'm not sure about the other menu items, but this was by far the worst burger I've had in a long time. When you order a bison burger, it usually is one of the top burgers on the menu, however this patty definitely came from a freezer. It was cold in the middle and yet still cooked??? We sent the first one back, simply wanting hot food, however that didn't fix the taste, needless to say it didn't get finished. Perhaps I should have ordered a steak or perhaps not. The restaurant definitely had a hotel vibe, which should have alerted me that this was going to be hotel restaurant food

A group of us, mostly from my wife's work, had dinner at Wood + Paddle on a Saturday before seeing a show at the Ordway. There were about 10 of us all together and the waiter did a great job of taking orders, answering questions, and getting our food out. At the end of the meal, he asked about dessert. We felt we might be crunched for time, but that the creme brulé sounded good. He asked when the curtain was and let us know if we ordered right now he would guarantee we would have time or he would take it off the bill. Turned out he was right and we are glad he was. The brulé was delicious and we had plenty of time to walk to the theatre. Everyone in the group.was impressed and very happy with the dinner choice we made.

Great ambiance, service, and food! Would highly recommend Wood + Paddle Eatery if you are downtown. We had the W+P Smash Burger + Fried and the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, both had great flavor, and the fries were fresh and crispy. Look forward to going back!

Classic hotel restaurant ambiance, but fast and polite service and surprisingly large portions. I can't recommend the Brussels sprouts highly enough!

My husband and I stayed at the hotel attached for some Holiday shenanigans and stopped in the bar for drinks before heading out. We chatted with the bartender and another gentleman at the bar who ended up being the Chef. He mentioned the recent changes to the menu and when my husband heard Friend Sunnies were on the menu, I knew we had to come for dinner during our stay! The next night we arrived for dinner, sat at the bar and started with Fried Sunnies. I swear my husband was transported back to his childhood! They were very good and extremely nostalgic for that MN boy inside. We also enjoyed steak frites and roasted chicken as our entrees. The menu is a great MN menu with definite French influence. We were very pleased!

Great meal for all 3 in our party. Cocktails were delicious and promptly served despite dinner rush. Don't let their location in a hotel deter you.

The food was some of the best I've had. The beet salad is sublime, and the duck was perfect. However, the service was abysmal. My girlfriend and I arrived for our reservation, we were the only people there. The waiter took no time explaining dishes, drinks or anything else. My girlfriend has a condition that prevents her from eating very much at any one sitting. We ordered 2 appetizers and one entree to split. From that point on, we were ignored, with the waiter not bothering to check if we needed anything. He even dropped the check off without asking if we wanted dessert. The only reason to not give 1 star is the food quality.

Food was excellent. Service was horrible. The server was ok but pretentious. Makes us feel we are not important enough for him to answer our questions. The manager was downright rude. We already finished and paid and just spent a few minutes chatting. The manager came by to kick us out. I checked my phone - it was right at 9:00pm. No I am sorry, please or thank you. Just "we are clearing out. You have to leave now." We will take our business dinner elsewhere next time.

Food was ok, never had any one ask why they didn't get a tip and which I feel is not professional especially when a service charge fee is already added to the bill. Would not be going back.

Terrific locally inspired menu. Great atmosphere even though it's located inside a hotel. Not overpriced and good value for the food and drinks. Terrific service and just a lovely meal

Disinterested service, mediocre food but expensive. At one point it was hard to get the waiter's attention because there was a lengthy conversation facing away from customers with the manager. I wonder if they were talking about customer service. When I'm staying at a hotel I like to have a couple of meals at the hotel restaurant(s) but the first meal has to be good enough for me to return and breakfast is not the Wood and Paddle's forte. It's the most important meal to get right at a conference hotel. I don't get the name either, it sounds a little kinky to me. The hotel across the street has a much better overpriced breakfast.

We were desperate for somewhere to go eat prior to seeing a play at the Orpheum. Everywhere around that area wasn't accepting any additional people 1.5 hours before the shows. This made it tough... we stumbled upon W+P eatery. It was inside a cute boutique hotel and only has limited hours. We were excited and ready to eat. They were serving breakfast and a few lunch items on a Sunday morning. I was really excited for the food because of the atmosphere. It was super charming inside and comfy chairs. Food was ok. People have said... "you eat with your eyes first". It wasn't that impressive... I'm not sure if it was the size of the plates or the bright white circle plates but it didn't seem as fancy as the inside looked. The chicken sandwich was on a fancy plate, but the bun felt store bought and not exciting. The fries were decent. Nothing impressive about this sandwich. Normally at a place that looks like this, there would be a unique sauce and a fancy (not squished) bun. Maybe a pesto aioli or something jazzy with some freshness? The two breakfast plates felt very lackluster. They did have turkey sausage though... so that was cool, but sadly nothing felt like it was prepared fresh. It all felt like it was frozen and cooked. Nothing wrong with that, but typically at a dive bar for half the cost. Not trying to be super critically as I still rated them 4 stars. My mom got a free beer because I check in and they got us fed and out in time for our show. Super grateful, but I wouldn't stop here again if the menu stayed the same.

I came here for breakfast with my friend. I ordered the eggs Benedict with a side of fruit. I love eggs Benedict, however, it tasted like the cook accidentally dumped the whole salt container on the food. Typically if things are pretty salty I don't mind, but it was so salty to the point in which I ended up not eating half of it. My friend let me have a bite of her pancake which was really good! I liked the way the restaurant looked. It was really cool on the inside and had comfortable seating. Our waitress wasn't very kind. She may have been having a bad day. I try not to judge servers as I know it's not a easy job, but she was a bit rude to my friend when we were ordering food, and seemed irritated to be there. I wanted to ask for new food because it was so salty, but I was nervous too because our server was in a bad mood. The hostess was super sweet and she ended up bringing us our food, she was really kind to us and everyone. I don't think I'd eat here again solely because it's a bit pricy for the quantity of food you get. 2 people for breakfast was 45$ and 55$ after tip.

Breakfast on Mothers Day before a baseball game! Bloody Mary's were nice. My eggs, bacon & hash browns were perfectly done. Hubby's pot roast hash & eggs were tasty! Friend's French toast was good, but only came with 1-2 tablespoons of syrup. Service prompt. The place is modern & bright.

I had a business dinner and Wooden Paddle was central for all. The space was open it wasn't too busy. Service was good and our food came out quickly. I ordered the porkchop & it was huge! We had a side of broccolini for the table. The porkchop tasted good but still seemed a little tough; not only to cut through, but to chew as well. Since it was business, I didn't get photos of the others' meals. The group thought it was decent. I'd still try it again and return.

The restaurant is connected to the hotel we stayed at during our trip to Minneapolis. Great cappuccinos made by Lolo in the morning and a great dinner menu! The steak salad and French dip sandwich are perfect!! Will definitely recommend to anyone traveling to Minneapolis!

Recently visited this gem of an eatery nestled within the Royal Sonesta Minneapolis and strap in folks -- cause you're about to go on an epicurean menu ride. The space is modern, posh, and intimate, almost what you would expect from an ordinary hotel bar and restaurant -- but I gotta stress "almost" because your experience will be far from ordinary. Exec Chef Niki Heber greeted us at the table with fervent enthusiasm for his new American cuisine using seasonal MN ingredients. When I inquired what his favored dishes are we received a playful response of "how do you pick your favorite child?" Heard, Chef. So we ordered a few things and let him surprise us with a few others. What we ordered: Seared Whitefish ~ cucumber * radish * potato * green broth Wild Rice & Mushroom Croquettes ~ paprika * herbs * creme fraiche Fried Sunnies ~ buttermilk marinade * lemon aioli * togarashi Rye Flatbread ~ cultured butter * herb powder * sea salt Spit Roasted Lamb Shoulder ~ zah'tar * sesame yogurt * grilled zucchini * lemon Old Fashioned * Hot Honey Bee Lemon Custard ~ chamomile shortbread * summer berries **all of these dishes are completely resplendent with masterful flavors.

Some of the spin they put on dishes is a little too fancy for it's own food and gets in the way of what is otherwise very good technical execution.

I've been to this location when it was under a different name. I assume it was also a different chef, but the decor is more or less the same with the open kitchen and views to things being roasted. My last visit was before a show at the Orpheum Theatre. It's one of the few restaurants within walking distance that isn't a chain, for those of us who avoid Crave. In the current iteration, I thought it was really good food. Perhaps a bit overpriced for the quality of service and the portion size and the ambiance. Is it just me or are the tables a little low? The Brussels Sprouts are an exceptional appetizer. Our table had the Smoked Cauliflower entree and the Walleye Schnitzel. I'd probably pass on the cauliflower in the future, although the cheese curd grits that accompanied it were great. Maybe smoky vegetables just aren't my thing? Everything about the schnitzel and the sides it came with were great. We also had the Grilled Broccolini side and didn't have any complaints, although it also didn't leave much of an impression.

The service was great! The food was not. Appetizers were mediocre. One burger was burnt outside but the inside was very rare. Multiple dishes needed salt.

I ignored a couple of warning signs when we chose to eat our pre-show dinner at Wood + Paddle. First, it's a hotel restaurant, usually a warning flag. Second, it calls itself an "eatery." The restaurant has its good points. We weren't sure about ordering the Fried Sunnies (sunfish) so our server brought us a serving gratis, and they were delicious. The Walleye Schnitzel was...okay, if a little blah. And the asparagus that came with my main course, the whitefish, was perfectly cooked. But wow, otherwise that whitefish entree was a disaster. Whitefish is a delicate-tasting fish, and the less it's fussed with, the better. But Wood + Paddle's version tasted not terribly fresh, and was burdened with a completely unnecessary "buerre blanc" (I think they meant beurre blanc -- the misspelling on the menu was another bad sign) glopped on top of the fish, and a bed of very hard, difficult to chew and unpleasantly strong-tasting wild rice pilaf underneath. Between the two layers, the flavor of the whitefish was virtually impossible to discern. I couldn't eat more than a few bites. The ambiance was fine, though as a hotel restaurant, the front was open to the hotel lobby, which was less than ideal. Our server was very friendly and efficient -- no complaints there. And when I told him how bad the whitefish was, he listened carefully and seemed to care about my opinion. Hopefully the next whitefish that comes out of the kitchen will not suffer the same fate that mine did. Our server comped our chai (too sweet) and green tea, which was nice. We probably won't come back, but it's possible that fish is just not this restaurant's thing, and they do better with other dishes.

So, our first part of our trip we tried the wood and paddle eatery. Breakfast wasn't bad at all. I mean, the coffee speciality drinks are something you need to get from outside of this place. This place is best for cocktails and evening drinks. The happy hour prices are fine. The appetizers are good too. However, they seemed like they didn't know there was a major sporting event this weekend and didn't plan accordingly. An easy night for extra revenue for late night drinks, but they closed early. I'm torn between great drinks, but limited service and hours.

We crossed 7th Street from the Marriott City Center Hotel to breakfast at Wood & Paddle. Great decision! Upscale but very casual atmosphere off the lobby of the Royal Sonesta Hotel. My two colleagues and I all rated our menu items as excellent. Star of the breakfast was the thick cut bacon and the pastries - croissant and English muffins. Our server, Hector was friendly and talkative, perhaps a bit too much. He seemed more focused on joining our conversation and entertaining us than on the details of the meal. He neglected to provide us water until asked and didn't provide salt and pepper. I'm sure with some additional training he will hone his craft. Based on our experience we'll likely return tomorrow for breakfast. You should also.

I am visiting from out of state and walked upon this restaurant. I was seated promptly for a Monday evening. I was sat near the kitchen so I could watch my food being made if I wanted. I checked in through Yelp and therefore got a free beer on tap. I chose the Cider beer which was very sweet. I wanted to try something different for an entree so I ordered the cauliflower. It was delicious and had a sweet yet sour taste. The cheese curd grits were ok, I did think they were somewhat bland and completely expected something more flavorful. Again, I am just visiting but if I were to come back, I would definitely try something different.

This is a great breakfast restaurant with awesome food! Modern establishment located in hotel lobby area. Menu was very nice! Everything from oatmeal to quiche and beyond! I had French toast that came with carmelized apple slices. Yum! Prices are reasonable. Will definitely recommend it!

I was really hoping for a better experience for my birthday brunch, but this place was only OK. Food and service was nothing to write home. They do have a nice private space for larger groups.

Had a great meal here, seems like a normal hotel bar, but honestly offers so much more! First off love the Minnesota theme! Would be nice to get some more staples but it's a good start! Had the cheese curds to start and bread w/ tartare. Curds we're great, bread was good, tartare was odd, was a mayo mess. Was expecting something along the lines of Sample Room We also had the pheasant stroganoff, fantastic!! Only small complaint was could have a tad more sauce but overall was solid. We also had the roasted cauliflower. Was good as well, again solid but only complaint was only half the cauliflower was seasoned so very bland on one side. Overall a 8/10 that we will give 9/10 with our very attentive server! Skol!

Service was great. I wasn't the biggest fan. Not bad just not really my style and didn't impress me especially for the cost. I'll still mark it a 4 as I thought the service made up for it.

I was staying at the hotel for a work trip and it was cold out! I normally don't love hotel bars/restaurants but I was there and hungry. I was delighted with the staff AND food! I loved the Croquettes and Broccolini so much that I came back the following night to try the Mushroom and onion gratin. Fantastic! Special shout out to the waitstaff and management for being lovely about emailing me a receipt a week later that I didn't know I would need. I can't wait to go back!

A friend and I stopped in for some drinks and apps before a show at the Orpheum and had a great experience. Drinks were great and they had a good selection of beer and cocktails. For an appetizer we tried the cheese curds and honestly they were some of the best cheese curds I've had. I was really impressed. Service was good and the atmosphere wasn't too loud so we could have a conversation without shouting. I would definitely come back to try some of their other menu items.

Went to this restaurant for a company dinner event while at a conference. They're were over 20 of us-they were able to accommodate a larger party with about a week's notice. ATMOSPHERE: Quiet (other than our table who took up a portion of the entire place). Staff was friendly and prompt. They even helped to get us all on one large table as was our preference. They also allowed us to bring in a valued fort this special event, and even stored it fort us during the afternoon session of the conference so it would be ready for our dinner. FOOD: Very good. My steak was medium will when I asked for medium, bit three flavor was good. The side dishes were also very tasty. I recommend the fried sunnies-yum! Three asparagus was also good. DRINKS: Nice selection of beer and wine, mixed drinks were pretty good. I had a pineapple Cosmo and it was ok. The dirty martini I had next was better. SERVICE: Great. Never waited or needed anything.

During a recent visit to the Wood and Paddle, I was wowed by Willie's service and attention to conversation and kindness. Nick met Willie's high standard in food and beverage recommendations. Thank you for the kindness and meal - I look forward to my next visit.
