"This Two MICHELIN Star restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia offers exceptional Portuguese dishes." - The MICHELIN Guide
"Best hotel in Porto for wine lovers The Yeatman’s star attraction is, undoubtedly, the decanter shaped pool and terrace that allows you to enjoy the view of Porto’s winding streets from the other side of the river. The hotel has six storys, but domineering tower block it is not; each floor is arranged on the banks of the Douro, giving guests a lookout no matter which room they stay in. Those who visit Porto with a plan to enjoy as many wines as possible will love this property, which is heavily focused on the local tipple; images of vineyards decorate the walls, while there’s a cellar available to tour between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. Be sure to check into the Michelin-starred restaurant while you’re there to enjoy the traditional flavors of Portugal. –Abigail Malbon Address: The Yeatman, Rua do Choupelo, 4400-088 Vila Nova de GaiaPrice: Doubles from about $234 per night" - Abigail Malbon
"Everyone knows that the city of Oporto has a timeless, almost magical charm, but not everyone is aware that one of the best places to experience this is on the opposite side of the River Douro in Vila Nova de Gaia. Here, chef Ricardo Costa conjures up his creative cuisine on a single tasting menu which starts with drinks and appetisers in the bar and kitchen and is based around two key pillars: traditional Portuguese cuisine (with a nod to the chef’s home town of Aveiro), and premium seasonal ingredients which are always treated with the greatest of delicacy. It also features several panoramic dining spaces: the main dining room with its large picture windows and, above all, the spectacular terrace, which overlooks the most beautiful parts of the city. The wine cellar is one of the best in Portugal." - Michelin Inspector
"Built on a hillside overlooking Vila Nova de Gaia (where most of the old-line port merchants are located) and the Douro River, the luxurious 82-room hotel gets its identity from the local wine trade. The genteel decor takes its cues from the quintas (farms) of local wine grandees, and each room features photographs and accessories contributed by a different Portuguese winemaker. If the low roofline of the six-story building is also inspired by the local architectural vernacular, it stands out as the region’s chic new address with a stunning Caudalie spa and an infinity pool with breathtaking views of Porto across the river. The traditionally decorated rooms have thick wool carpeting, beds with gold-stenciled black-painted wood headboards, and cushy settees and armchairs upholstered in tufted, jewel-toned velvet. Built-in bookcases are lined with titles about the Portuguese wine trade, and spacious bathrooms feature louvered wooden shutters by the tub. In addition to an excellent restaurant, there’s a cozy bar and a cigar lounge, plus a gorgeous indoor swimming pool and a children’s club. The Yeatman runs an inexpensive shuttle down the hill to Porto—a welcome service since this is not an easy city to drive in."
"In the luxurious, wine-focused hotel of the same name in Vila Nova de Gaia, you’ll find the two-Michelin-starred Yeatman restaurant. Under the command of chef Ricardo Costa, the restaurant serves two tasting menus, one standard and one vegetarian. The options encompass traditional flavors of Portuguese cuisine with modern flair and seasonal produce, including fresh seafood and fish from the Portuguese coast and porco preto (black Iberian pigs, an Indigenous Portuguese breed). The wine pairings are predictably fantastic, drawn from a cellar packed with rare bottlings. If that weren’t enough, every meal comes with a stunning view of the Douro River and the Porto skyline." - Rafael Tonon
