When people on the mainland find out that Hawaii has no In-N-Out Burger, Smashburger, The Habit, and Shake Shack, they ask where we get our hamburgers from... hahaha!
Besides McDonalds, Burger King, and Jack in the Box, the island of Oahu just got a Johnny Rockets in Pearl City and a Five Guys in Mililani. There's also The Counter in Kahala; and Burgers and Things in Pauoa.
Kaneohe, Kailua, Kapolei, Wahiawa, Haleiwa, Ewa Beach, Aiea, and Honolulu have Teddy's Bigger Burgers. That's 11 locations on Oahu and 2 on Maui! There are also 6 on the mainland, one in Japan, one in Thailand, and 2 in the Philippines! I didn't know that they were so popular!
Yesterday, I kinda felt self-destructive, so I broke down, went to the Kaneohe Bay Shopping Center location and got TWO Burgers - The Greek and The Kaneohe. I tried the Greek first - big mistake. It was so GOOD and flavorful! I had to force myself to stop and try the Kaneohe Burger. It had bacon, cheddar, and avocado which was okay, but nothing in comparison to the Red Wine Vinaigrette and Feta Cheese of the Greek! Plus, the Greek had fresh cucumbers and onions - wow! AND, their Special Sauce has a slight kick to it - bam!
One of the main reasons for not eating here is maybe the price. There are three sizes: Big ($6.99 for 1/3 pound), Bigger ($8.29 for 1/2 pound), and Biggest ($12.99 for 1 pound). The Greek and Kaneohe are specialty burgers, so $1.90 was added to the Greek and $3.90 for the Kaneohe.
These are supposed to be quality burgers with less gristle. I could taste the smoky flavor and I liked the texture and moist patty, but I still found a small bone chip and a bit of gristle. I cut both burgers open and the pinkness would be a turn off for my sister who likes her food more well-done. I was able to eat it because I was really hungry! It tasted better when it was a hotter temperature and I'm glad I ate it at home because they were juicy and messy. I really needed a sink nearby!
I'd go back for the Greek Burger and maybe try the Nom Nom Burger which has Swiss Cheese, Bacon & Grilled Onions. I'd rather do take out... or if I dined in, I would need a lot of napkins!
