"This tiny omakase counter has only eight seats, so you have slightly better odds of booking just one instead of two. The 13-course meal is $85 per person (with an optional $55 beverage pairing), which is a pretty decent deal considering the fact that it contains some of our favorite individual pieces of fish at any price point. People tend to strike up a conversation across the counter here, so don’t be surprised if you leave with a new favorite sub-$100 omakase spot and a new friend. Loved the omakase experience at Taikun Sushi. The chef and the waiter were lovely. Everything that we tried was luscious - and when you thought it couldn’t get better, it did. It’s a small venue so enjoy the intimate experience chatting with the chef and the waiter. Bonus - their impressive Japanese whiskey selection.

One of the best omakase in town, PERIOD (we have been to several with same price point). No vavavoom over the top creation just pure focus on high quality fish and intimate service to details. Felt like you are dining in a speakeasy with just 6 /8 seats at the bar with curtain closed once everyone is seated. Normally we dont order extra pieces but this time we both got a second of our fav, uni and scallop. Highly recommended !!

With so-called Omakase joints popping up on every other corner in New York City, it was a pleasure to find a reasonably priced high-quality dinner with excellent fish, well prepared by the friendly sushi, chef, Feri. He’s a bit shy at first, just going about his business, but if you engage with him a little bit, he is quite charming. The counter seats only six people and is tucked away in a small corner of the gray lady restaurant, with a separate entrance. The Omakase menu follows a fairly standard progression with all of the familiar fish and good quality rice. The fish are all imported from Japan and I would say overall the quality was excellent. There was some interesting takes on the traditional preparation, such as adding olive oil, salt or marinating the Ikura in a sake and soy sauce marinade. While some of these techniques are nontraditional, I have to say that they worked really well and we both loved them. I opted for the $55 sake pairing, which came with three excellent glasses of sake, and one glass of an excellent California Zinfandel. The sakes were all great and I am a fan of the Zin but I have to say I probably would have preferred another glass of sake because I didn’t think the wine was a very good choice for the fish. They chose to pair these Zinfandel with the oily fish, which makes sense intellectually. I just wasn’t feeling it. However, this was really the only constructive criticism I could offer of the entire meal and I think the beverage pairing was a good value at the $55 price point. Great dinner, good value, excellent drinks… What more do you want? We will be back!

We had the omakase with sake pairing. Each nigiri was fresh, perfectly made with subtle flavors. The sakes pairing was excellent too. Highly recommended for someone who enjoy authentic sushi.

Some of the best Omakase sushi I have ever had. Chef Feri was great and explained what every piece was and where it is from in Japan. I did not take the drink pairing option but the others did. The premium sakes that were served were really good, I was told. The price is completely worth it. I would have paid double what they were asking. If you're in New York City, definitely add Taikun to the top of your to do list. I'm already planning to go back and I live in Montreal, Quebec...! I didn't take pics of every piece...was busy enjoying...

Incredible. I’ve been a few times and am continually amazed. It’s a small setup with 6-8 seats at the bar. The fish is top notch and the chef is knowledgeable. The price is quite reasonable and they offer a wine pairing that will leave you toasty. Can’t recommend enough.

Pleasantly good experience. Chef is trained under another Japanese chef whom I know. Style is more close to pure edomae sushi. Shari quality is overall very good, although I prefer smaller size, different temp and tightness. Vinegar is in a good combination. Fish was fresh and especially liked Sanma, although i prefer more hikarimono like Iwashi and Kohada. But for this price, this is a great omakase choice. I will come back again as an edomae enthusiast.

This is place is an absolute gemstone. I will never be able to eat at sushi buffets ever again because this restaurant has raised my standards to heights never imagined before. They serve more than 13 dishes but you'll need to ask for the secret menu. They also serve drinks. Shout out to Feri, the chef! Absolutely loved the host too. I will definitely be coming back with more friends!
