"Highly regarded flour producer King Arthur Baking Company has chosen Charleston’s Sugar Bakeshop as the recipient of its For Goodness Bakes program. Started back in March of 2020, King Arthur created this initiative to help businesses during the pandemic. The company pays an establishment for its baked goods, and then the items are donated to a charity of the bakery’s choice. Sugar Bakeshop owner Kat Palmisano explains, “It not only provides the bakery with business and the ability to keep their staff employed and pay the bills, but also helps feed people in the community who are also struggling.” The Cannon Street bakery will make 350 holiday iced sugar cookies for One80 Place this week. “We realize this isn’t exactly fighting hunger,” says Palmisano, “but it is a great time of year to spread love and cheer — which is exactly what we hope our cookies can do. Who doesn’t need a little cheering up these days.” She says that the team at Sugar bakeshop chose One80 Place because of the work that the organization does with the homeless population in Charleston, from shelter to long-term housing to access to healthcare, lawyers, job training, and meals. King Arthur picked six bakeries across the country during the holidays to be recipients of the For Goodness Bakes program. Listen, I am a SUCKER for a good cupcake, and boy, was this place it! They had a ton of flavor options, gluten-free options, dog treats, brownies, and more! They were so moist, and we loved it so much we went twice while we were here! My dog absolutely loved their dog treats, and they are all natural as well. The staff was so friendly, and I want to say she was the owner, was an absolute sweetheart! Will be coming back every trip to Charleston that we make!

Cute little bakery. Purchased a few cupcakes to try. Never heard of a hummingbird cake, supposed to have banana, walnut and pineapple, but I think I got a unmixed one, or maybe it's all blended because I don't think I had any of those pieces. Frosting was nice though. Also purchased a Lime curd, Lemon curd, and pinata surprise. Lime and Lemon were very tart, which would've been alright by itself but the frosting was soo sweet. I guess it's to try to balance them out, but it feels more like it's just overwhelming. Pinata surprise was just a cake with sprinkles, but the frosting was good. Also got a blueberry muffin and a Pecan Chewy. Blueberry was nice, bit more moist than the cupcakes it felt like. But the chewy really good. Would recommend.

May have gotten a bit unlucky as I’ve heard great things about this place. Picked up a small cake for my wife’s birthday, and it tasted a little stale. The prices are pretty steep for their cakes, so it sets a very high bar from a taste perspective that simply wasn’t met. Will definitely try again and hopefully will get a better result. The location was great, inside was cute, and the young woman that helped me was very kind!

This place has the Charleston Sweet Charm. I like to go on our way to the aquarium for a special kid treat. They also have delicious coffee. We love their cookies and cupcakes! It is so quaint and sweet. They are so thoughtful, they have a great selection of candles for birthday cakes. The staff are knowledgeable and take humble pride in their work. I have been here a few times and always enjoy the experience. We will be back and I recommend you give them a try.

Went to Charleston for moms birthday. After reading reviews I decided to try Sugar. I was not disappointed. This shop gets 4 stars on the smell alone. The cake was so delicious I even froze the leftovers. Couldn’t bear to waste it. Super friendly staff. Worth every penny.

Not only does sugar have the most amazing desserts from cupcakes to chewies, to cake, they have amazing customer service! The first reason why we picked sugar to cater is because of our first impression. It was during strict COVID times, when people were only allowed one group at a time. My fiancé and I were inside and deciding on cupcakes to take home to sample for our wedding cake. Sugar stood up for us when an impatient guest tried to rush us, AND gave us a cookie on them! The second reason why we picked sugar is because they have beautiful desserts that taste amazing too! The flavors and genuine, not “too” sugary, and don’t have that artificial taste to them. We will always have a special place in our heart for Sugar’s confetti cake. 10/10 highly recommended for any of your catering needs!! Thank you, Sugar!!

excellent bakery....went in a little after mid day and most of their pastries were sold out but still had a great selection to pick from. Vanilla cupcake with sprinkles was delicious and very fresh. The shortbread square was awesome!!! Will definitely go back!!!

Okay I want to preface this by saying, I know desserts are sweet. And, believe it or not, that's one of the many things I like about them. That said - I ordered an almond cupcake from here. I was thrilled to see that as an option, because I'm a big almond/vanilla flavor person, and you don't always find that at bakeries! But... the frosting was so sweet I couldn't finish it. And then the cake part of the cupcake got all stuck on the wrapper. It wasn't the best of experiences. They also only have coffee, no fun coffee drinks, which seems like a missed opportunity! We ordered iced coffee which tasted like... cold leftover coffee poured over ice. Not great. The ambiance of the shop was really cute, both inside and out, and they have an adorable tiny courtyard type patio with a few tables.

Stopped by to visit on a Saturday afternoon at 3 pm and unfortunately most of the cupcakes were already sold out. But, I did get to try a double chocolate cookie ($3.45), that was the size of my face, and it was amazing. The batch just came out of the oven and was still warm. The cookie was perfectly sweet, and very rich and chewy. The interior is cute but very small. There's no real seating inside but they had a couple benches right outside the store. Next time, I would definitely recommend coming here earlier in the day.

I recently went to this bakery and tried 5 (yes, 5) cupcakes. They were all amazing - very moist and delicious. The icing to cupcake ratio was spot on. And they have a cute patio off the storefront to enjoy your cupcakes (which is where I ate my first 2 ). I can't say enough great things about this bakery. Would definitely recommend if you are in the Charleston area!!!

I wanted to love Sugar a lot more than I did. Ultimately the products were good, just not great for my family. They are local and have been in Charleston the past four years. They have a cult following. I came on a weekday and scored free off street parking nearby. The neighborhood may be transitioning as there is a lot of room for redevelopment. It's a beautiful tree lined avenue. The shop is adorable from the outside and a side patio to enjoy the treats was very nice. The area was clean and inviting and a trash can was handy. Inside the store its very compact. So only 3-4 customers at a time. They offer more than just cupcakes too! The staff was friendly and helpful choosing a cupcake from maybe six varieties. They looked average to me. With Easter approaching they put jelly beans on top which was creative The cakes are pricey and the size average to small. We decided on a half dozen and got a variety and wasted no time trying them. The three of us were underwhelmed with our selections, but we each liked, just did not love. Make no mistake they were fresh, the flavors just did not hit on our picks. My first selection of mocha was ok, second of coconut was delicious! So check them out and you can decide on the hype and other strong reviews. For me a 3.5 rounding up fits them best.

Everything this place has to offer is amazing. Went to pick up a mocha birthday cake and it was hard to walk out with a dozen cupcakes, cookies and cinnamon buns. The bakery is so cute and small and everyone is always polite and helpful. The mocha cake though is amazing. The chocolate cake is moist and rich without being overly sweet and the coffee buttercream is smooth with a good natural coffee flavor.

We hopped upon this spot on a tour in Charleston! We were told it's one of the top 10 bakeries in the United States! We had a great time. The desserts we each chose were delicious. If you are near by it's a must stop! We each also had a pecan bar (not photoed) but DELICIOUS. I couldn't stop saying mmmmmmmmmmmm the entire time hahahah

Oh my oh my oh my....I want to go back here time and time and time again to taste everything in the store... But, we were on a mission. My daughter is getting married in April and we are doing everything with local and small businesses. Besides the traditional cake, she'd like to serve big chewy cookies. We had a list of bakeries, and this was our first stop. We purchased a chocolate chip, ginger molasses, double chocolate, and oatmeal raisin. Opening and tasting in the car we knew we found the cookie she desired. Truly heavenly delicious, and our search ended. I drooled over the cupcake choices and will go back...for one of everything, (this could be dangerous).

Absolutely adorable! This place has been on my Charleston bucket list for a few years now, and I finally was able to stop by. It is very quaint and doesn't offer a ton of seating, but it does offer SO many different delicious options! I tried the vanilla blueberry cupcake, funfetti cupcake, and a peanut butter cookie sandwich. All three were incredible, and my total was around $12, which I thought was fair. Service was exceptional and their menu is extensive. I would definitely recommend getting a box of sweets as a valentines day or birthday present for someone. I will definitely be returning!

I was traveling from out of town to celebrate a 50th BD. I contacted them for a a simple vanilla cake with vanilla frosting. We picked it up and it was ready and as promised. This is such a cute little bake shop is Charleston. The cupcake flavor selection is remarkable! I had such a hard time choosing a flavor. They had coconut, lime curd, raspberry, fruit loops, etc. I got the vanilla blueberry cupcake, and my friend had the raspberry lemon cupcake. My other friend had a lemon tea donut. Everything was so yummy. I was very tempted to buy more flavors. The cookies also looked great! The prices were also reasonable. If I had more time in Charleston, I would go back for more cupcakes.

I did an Uber eats order for a bday and they did the nicest wrapping and called to make sure I would have a great order. They helped make the cupcakes feel extra special. Big fan of their lattes if you want to grab coffee while picking up a dessert. They also do super cute decorations for Halloween. Minimal street parking in front and can eat pasty outside. Got a s'mores bday cake and it was good. Great local spot.

So very good! We were only in Charleston for four days and we went twice! The cupcakes were light and moist and not overly sweet. The cookies were just dynamite. I brought two home for my son and husband. My friend had the gluten free options and commented on how moist and delicious they were. The staff are friendly, patient, and helpful. Definitely a must on places to visit in Charleston.

Cute little bakery. They sell cookies and cupcakes. I thought their cookies were amazing. They had a light crunch on the outside, but were perfectly soft, gooey, and moist on the inside. They also came in many flavors and were quite large. The cupcakes weren't as magical, but they were still good. In my opinion, the cake was moist and flavorful but I would have liked it to have been just a little bit softer. I also prefer my toppings to be more extravagant... Aside from cookies and cupcakes, they also sell doggie treats, birthday cake number candles, homemade soap bars, and a few other things. Lastly, the staff was very pleasant and helpful.

The cutest little bakery with sidewalk tables and yummy desserts. We walked by everyday waiting for their curtains to be open so we could see inside. They have a variety of mini muffins, regular muffins, and cookies. The muffins are adorable and have unique flavors but I'm not much of a cake person, cookies are my jam. I suggest getting what you want when you see it. We made the mistake of waiting until our walk back from town and all the cookies were gone. The next day we went right at 10. I got the buckwheat/gluten free chocolate chip (per recommendation from the nice employee), m$m, and ginger molasses. They were all, large, gooey and soft, and they warmed up the one I wanted to eat right away. The buckwheat was a nice twist on original chocolate chip. I am drooling thinking about them and wishing I had gotten more. All my pictures are on my husband's phone but I will load them later.

If you want a plain boring cake this is your place. If you're looking for a nicely decorated birthday cake for your loved one, then don't even consider this place. When placing the order I asked for ganache filling, they said we don't do that, or any filling in fact. They also said they don't do any sort of flowers or frosting decorations, Just sprinkles. I went with it because I didn't call in time for other bakeries. You would think such a plain cake would be cheap too... No, almost 100 dollars for a white cake and clear sprinkles. I ordered almond, and the only thing "almond" about it was the overpowering flavor of almond extract in the frosting. This cake was dense, hard and flavorless. The actual cake has literally no flavor at all, it's like I'm eating a kitchen sponge. They also frosted the cake right to the edge of the cardboard surface it is on, so I had to physically touch the cake to get it out of the box. This is the type of bakery you go to get a cookie or a desert to go. Not to order a nicely baked cake.

This was great. We got a few cupcakes and cookies from here and really enjoyed all of them, especially (surprisingly) the lemon cupcake. The frosting on the cupcakes reminded my of Sprinkles in New York. Their chocolate cookie was excellent as well.

DO NOT LEAVE WITHOUT GETTING A LEMON CURD CUPCAKE! I went here 10 years ago and had the lemon curd cupcake and have been talking about it regularly since as the best cupcake I've EVER had. After 10 years and another visit, it's still the best cupcake I've ever had. All the workers were so nice and make me a custom cupcake. The shop doesn't have seating to enjoy in the shop but it's super cute inside. I cannot recommend this place higher!!

Wow I don't live in Charleston SC and thank goodness for that because I'd be fat and broke. These miniature little cakes are incredible and I'm a sweets connoisseur so trust me when I say it. The cupcakes were light moist and tasted exactly like their advertised. If you're in the area this has to be on your list of places to stop by. Your stomach and your nose will both thank you for the delightful sweets.

Soooo I had to find this place myself! No one told Me! Craving sweets after work and Yelped Sugar Bakeshop, found street parking and made my way into this quaint Bakeshop. Immediately I was impressed with the display of cookies, cupcakes and other baked treats that filled the space. The open kitchen was impressive and the bakers were working diligently. I was greeted and opted for this pecan ooey goey bar! The thing was tasty, I mean.. sheesh I could taste the butter and goodness lol I was impressed by this little bitty thing. I was impressed with the friendly young lady behind the bar and I was impressed that they make dog treats! I will be back.

I've wanted to check this place out for a while. I wasn't disappointed! It's an adorable, tiny shop. It's picturesque inside and out. There's a large menu board behind the register. The prices aren't listed anywhere--well at least we didn't see any. The goodies are beautifully displayed--they look almost too perfect to eat. They sell cupcakes in an assortment of flavors, huge cookies, layer cake, brownies, and chewies. I got a vanilla cupcake. My mom got a chewy and an oatmeal raisin cookie. The cupcake was fresh and delicious. I wish I had gotten another. My mom enjoyed the chewy and cookie. They have a small corner with other local merchandise, including tea, candles, and soap. There's a small courtyard area with tables. Parking was a little confusing but I figured it out quickly.

The clerk helped with suggestions and even put some ribbon which made for a nice presentation. Their signature cupcake is their blueberry. Found this bakery through a quick search. Plenty of food traffic here too, as the shop is not in tourist area of town. Must be good. Small bakery with gourmet cupcakes and other snacks like brownies and cookies. Various cupcake flavors included Sweet Tea, Peanut Butter, Lime. Not cheap at $4.25 each but you'll pay for quality and this is it Only drawback was owner being a Boston Red Sox fan, but don't hold that against her.

Ordered some specialty cupcakes and cookies when we were in town for a bachelorette weekend a few weeks ago...they were fantastic!! First, the guy who took my order was so charming and helpful, taking note of the theme and helping me decide on colors and flavors. We settled on a dozen cupcakes (half chocolate chocolate and half raspberry lemon) w some rose gold sprinkles and then a dozen chocolate chip cookies. LAWD, the cookies. They are HUGE and chewy and seriously taste like what I imagine heaven would taste like if it were a cookie. Perfect w coffee in the AM to help w those bachelorette party "headaches" ha!! The cupcakes were also delicious, moist and filled w delicious, unique flavors. Definitely recommend!!!

Delicious and pretty desserts. Managed to do a custom birthday cake for me on short notice! So grateful. Everyone loved it especially the birthday gal. Picked up some cupcakes while here to, because how could you not, and they were also a huge hit. The coconut and caramel were stand outs. Perhaps some more intricate design options might be a fun feature. But taste was wonderful and presentation was great.

We always try cupcakes in the cities we visit so we ended up at Sugar Bakeshop. Cute little place with several fruity and classic cupcake flavors and good customer service. We got the double chocolate, the lemon, and the blueberry vanilla. Blueberry vanilla was by far my favorite! Very light, fresh, and sweet - just perfect. The lemon one my boyfriend loved - tasted like a lemon bar to me - a bit too lemony for my taste but if you really like lemon this is for you. The double chocolate was the only disappointment - it was a little dry and nothing special.

Sugar bake shop is the cutest bake shop you have ever seen! Parking is not easy to find near the shop but there treats are worth circling the block a few times. They sell a number of baked goods, I suggest definitely getting a cupcake. I suggest definitely getting a cupcake. My guy and I popped in while walking around the neighborhood, and went back several times over our visit. The cupcakes are the most popular items- there's a huge variety of flavors each day, and the lemon and almond-joy flavors were our favorite. Both had a great filling, homemade-tasting cake, and frosting that isn't too sweet. The ginger-chocolate chip cookie was calling my name, and the flavors were spot-on in a soft, chewy disc the size of my hand. Pair it with a coffee for the best grab and go breakfast in the area. The shop itself is picturesque: a simple but welcoming exterior, beautiful jewelry cases repurposed to showcase their baked goods inside, and a charming vine-covered courtyard out back. Bring your pooch, they're welcome, too!
