Rose Pizzeria in downtown Berkeley is a charming, cozy spot serving up crispy, New York-style pizzas and a solid selection of wines, perfect for gatherings or cozy dinners.
"There is plenty of amazing pizza in Berkeley (some of whom are on this list) but Rose Pizzeria serves some great thin-crust pies at this University spot, both indoors and outside on their patio. The champione pizza is a favorite, which comes in a spring onion cream, roasted mushrooms, mozzarella, and green onions, arriving tableside with a beautifully oven-blistered crust. And as with all great pizza-salad combos, don’t sleep on the spicy Caesar salad while you’re at it, and if you’ve got room, indulge in the tiramisu." - Dianne de Guzman
"Berkeley has a few legendary spots that are beyond even an “essential” list such as this — for example, the Cheese Board Collective — but newcomer Rose Pizzeria is making its own name. It has a tight but mighty menu in that everything from the starters to the pizzas don’t miss including the restaurant’s spicy take on the Caesar salad, highlighting local Shared Cultures miso, and the hot champione pies coming out of the oven. The wine list is also worth mentioning, as the thoughtful selections, available by the bottle or glass, range from locally loved labels to European productions." - Dianne de Guzman, Eater Staff
"Followed by a two-day pop-up at Berkeley’s Rose Pizzeria on March 8 and 9..." - Dianne de Guzman
"Rose Pizzeria co-owner Gerad Gobel doesn’t like to categorize his pizzas, but that being said, the restaurant has gained a small following amongst New Yorkers who enjoy Rose’s crust paired with California-fresh toppings. The Champione is a lovely vegetarian mushroom pizza with smoked mozzarella, sherry vinegar, pecorino, and green onion over white sauce, while the Green Deluxe is a vegetarian favorite topped with broccoli rabe, mozzarella, garlic confit, cream, and lemon. Don’t skip the spicy Caesar salad, topped with a dressing that incorporates Shared Cultures miso, plus chile for just the right amount of kick." - Dianne de Guzman, Noah Cho
"La Rosa Pizza is an average pizzeria in South Philly serving the usual suspects of pepperoni and cheese NY-style pies. But the tomato pie is surprisingly great. It's mostly sauce, like what the surface of a red planet like Mars would look like if it was all sweet tanginess instead of dust. But even if you can’t see the crust, this thing is still light. You're going to swallow several in one sitting." - Candis R. McLean
