"Built in 1899, destroyed in 1938 and rebuilt in the 1950’s, the Roonstraße Synagogue is the center of the Jewish communities of Cologne. The neo-Romanesque building is a beautiful landmark for the area. You can take a tour of the Synagogue in German, just don't forget your kippa!" - ONOGRIT

The only surviving synagogue in Cologne, originally inaugurated in 1899 and then reconstructed and reopened in 1959. Unfortunately it was closed when I visited. The nearest U-bahn station is Zülpicher Platz.

Inside it isn't as interesting as the exteriors. Synagogues are not supposed to be visually as striking as Catholic churches, anyway. To get inside you need to go through the usual security checks, bullet proof windows and stuff, which may put off most tourists.

there is the protocol. You can enter inside only after you get an appointment from the administration person ,you can get online. they are very strict with security and entrance. but from outside it is beautiful building.
