I really hate giving this 4 stars instead of 5, but I felt I had to knock a star off because if you have read any of my other reviews, you would know that I am always running around town with a baby in a stroller, and I most definitely factor in how helpful the staff is in assisting me with getting in and out of the store in my rating.
When I arrived at the bottom of the sizable stairs at the entrance of their Greene street Flagship, I had to momentarily leave my baby at street level, and go up the stairs to knock on the glass doors to ask someone to come out and assist me. Usually this prompts a nice gentleman salesperson or doorman to come out immediately to help, but I guess the salesperson thought I was a vagrant trying to break in? (Maybe... I was wearing a black hat, a hoodie over it, and a leather jacket). He made eye contact with me when I motioned for him to try to help me, walked 2 steps in my direction, and then walked away. I think it's the golden rule in retail to never judge a customer on their appearance. Guess he didn't get the memo.
After I knocked on the door one more time, he walked to the door and finally figured out that I was standing outside with a stroller and a baby. He was quietly helpful then, and I walked into the store and noticed how extremely empty it was. I have gone there on other occasions without a baby and the atmosphere is always the same. Somewhat cold and non intimate. But who cares really? We're all there for the PS1 aren't we?
A nice lady greeted me, and made niceties with my baby. In case you didn't know, parents really like it when you act like you like our children and we are more apt to buy something in the store because we feel guilty that you still smiled while they were screaming, pouting, whining, and being a general pain in the ass.
I think her name was Daisy? Usually the salespeople don't even say a simple hello to you. I never understood that. Is it because you work in a high end store that makes you feel like everyone that enters that can afford a two thousand dollar bag is below you? It didn't matter today though. Daisy was perfect. Not aggressive, but helpful with suggestions, working through my endless barrage of questions, and being patient while I was going back and forth between colors and sizes.
At the end, I couldn't decide, and when I said so, Daisy smiled and said, "Sure, I understand. I'll give you my card and I can help you over the phone with your purchase if it's too much of a pain to drag your baby and the stroller back to the store. I can messenger it over to you."
I left feeling pretty well taken care of, and the initial, "we don't want to let you in because you obviously cannot afford anything in this store" thing was water under the bridge.
Unfortunately, I stopped by Celine on the way back and ended up buying one of their bags instead, but Daisy? (if that's your name), you were pretty great. Maybe I'll call you one day for my bag needs. Thanks.
