"If you're not inclined to stay right in the thick of it all on Sunset, this Melrose spot is a nice alternative. The first floor is home to Hart & Hunter, a Southern-inspired, hipster-ish restaurant that serves great brunch in the morning and excellent cocktails in the evenings. As for the rooms, they're spacious and simple, with quirky design flourishes like antique portraits and velvet settees adding personality to an otherwise straightforwardly comfortable design. A nice perk: This part of Melrose is very walkable, so you're in easy striking distance of great shopping and restaurants."

Excellent location. Every member of the staff is outstanding from the front desk to the cleaning people. Loved the cafe attached to the hotel. Decor in the main areas is inviting. Very pretty. Rooms are decorated really pretty for bed area. The rest is minimalist decor on the bedroom with a few cubbies for unpacking clothes during the stay. The bed, linens and pillows are very comfortable and high quality. We have enjoyed our stay.

This was one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at mostly because of the level of customer service from the staff. I’ve never been to a hotel where every team member is so genuinely caring. Example - My husband had a surfboard on top of his truck. One of the staff members, Nino, was in the middle of doing his own job in the parking garage as we were leaving and stopped everything to help him get the surfboard off his roof and carried it out of the parking garage for us because it was a little too tall and might have hit the ceiling. The hotel was so clean and the beds were so comfortable. I love the style of decor of the room. The Melrose staff is amazing and makes me want to check out the other Palihotel locations now to see if the live up to this incredible team! Also, Charlie loved his stay - everyone loved him and wanted to say hi!

Great little hotel with character right on Melrose. Able to go on fun walking adventures to cool shops, restaurants, and coffee shops. We were able to just leave our car in the hotel garage and walk or Uber to places. The hotel staff were awesome, esp. Evan. They were very nice and helpful. We definitely plan to stay here again. Thanks

A Hidden Gem in LA! I had an amazing stay at Palihotel Melrose! From the moment I walked in, the stylish, cozy atmosphere made me feel right at home. My room was beautifully designed, with comfortable furnishings, great amenities, and even a turntable with vinyl records. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, making sure I had everything I needed. The location is perfect, right on Melrose Avenue, surrounded by shops, cafes, and street art—ideal for exploring LA. I also enjoyed a delicious meal at the hotel’s restaurant, with fantastic food and cocktails. Overall, Palihotel Melrose offers a perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and location. I’ll definitely return next time I’m in LA!

My first Experience of the Pali group and I was impressed. cool hotel in great location. really genuine staff at reception who couldn't be more helpful. cute terrace outside my room . love the aesthetic too, with great interior design throughout the property, I am sure I will return soon

Google
Very nice building. BUT there were no coffee pods for the coffee maker. We asked several times during our stay, but just were told they were waiting for a delivery. We asked for housekeeping service on our third day, but no one came. We ran short of towels and toilet paper. And the mushroom lights are painfully glaring.

We have stayed here before and we were completely shocked (in a great way!!) by the new look! The hotel went under a major renovation and it’s so beautiful! Service as usual was amazing we loved the comfy bed and robes. One thing could have made it better was the AC still had to be turned on by staff. But that didn’t take away from it being a 5 star experience!

Perfect location, chic European decor, superb bedding, excellent water pressure, lovely decor, helpful, friendly staff, marvelous restaurant. The common spaces are quite inviting, indoors and out, and it has interesting art and books in every nook and cranny. I loved the red stripes motif in my spacious room. I will be back-it’s a very short safe walk to my brand new grandson Charlie!

Yelp
This hotel has a very unique style and nicely designed. It's in the center of the major places in LA. Tim at the front desk is very helpful and kind. He made sure everything was taken care of. He helped with figuring out parking and finding nice places in the area. The only downside to this hotel is the thin wall where you can hear people's business transactions going on. Also, we were told a complementary breakfast was provided but then it turned out it comes at a charge. There was no coffee or any complementary drinks provided. The area is quiet and safe. The bed is clean and sanitized. No concerns.

Yelp
Love the location of this hotel and the vintage, eclectic feel to it. Cozy, small hotel feel for the big city of LA. The service is great and extremely friendly. We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant, the Blue Daisy, the night we chose to do dinner there they closed early due to a slow night in business, but seemed to have a regular early crowd each night and nice crowd for breakfast each morning. This is our second time staying here and we truly enjoyed it just as much the second time around.

Yelp
Woof, would avoid this hotel unless you're in a pinch. I was intrigued by Palihotels and wanted to try one out on a recent work trip to LA. I think this is their first location, and presumably, they've improved upon the concept. But this place a bit of a dump. It was dark, dingy and even had a bit of a smell to it. I had a room at street level, on Melrose, which is a busy street. It was super loud both externally, but also with thin walls and being able to hear the TV in a room either above or next to mine. Parking is reasonable, but you have to enter/exit the garage through a shady side door with a passcode. Later at night it was a little creepy. And, when you want to re-enter, you have to call the front desk. Even the free coffee was terrible. Granted, it was free, but it was super watery and tasteless. Don't provide it if it's not going to be any good.

Susan S.

Yelp
Maria at the front desk was wonderful. Walked outside to show me where to park. Brought some of our belongings into the elevator. Room was clean, decor was dark green and wasn't what I was hopping for. The hotel had a musty smell. Think the carpets could use a cleaning.

S J.

Yelp
First off, I was not impressed with just about everything. This place was a former nursing home. That means there wasn't any insulation in the walls, so you could hear everything in the rooms around you. There was not any temperature controls/thermostat in the room therefore you were at the mercy of the windows. The furniture including sofa, desk, bedframe and chair was all very used even though I felt that the mattress could be new. Bathroom seemed very basic and small. This facility also went with dark and drab decor and colors. The other issue was that hipsters were running this place while the demographic when I stayed there was close to sixty years. The staff was polite but everything had be done with today's technology using your cellphone. That was not user friendly. Since I stayed there during Christmas there wasn't any communication about restaurant hours and referrals for other spots to eat. Christmas morning the staff didn't even know how to make coffee. The location was great but with everything else totally outweighed it. I am sorry to say that I could not, in good conscience, recommend this establishment. As Bette Davis said "what a dump"...

John S.

Yelp
Chose this hotel mainly because they had a special with parking included. You self-park in the garage under the hotel ... it's tight and sometimes staff also parks there so the spots are all taken. If you have anything larger than a mid-size SUV or sedan, be prepared to find alternative parking. Shout out to Luis and Cesar at the front desk who were both great. The other front desk staff were somewhat aloof. We walked in one night around 10PM and the kid was sitting in a lounge chair (not behind the desk) on his phone ... we walked right by and he didn't even look up or acknowledge us. We could have been anyone. The rooms are sparse ... no closet and barely room for anything in the bathroom. Overall it's rough around the edges.

Robyn H.

Yelp
I like the vibe of this place so much and the food is pretty good but the service is not very friendly. They never smile, they never acknowledge the fact that I been there every day for a week now, and they are super timid. The front desk never says hi when I walk in. This hotel had potential but the employees give it no value

Yelp
***Disclaimer: I'm the farthest thing possible from a Karen and never expect a hotel or restaurant to be more comfortable than my own home and this review reflects that mentality. I love the Palihotel Melrose (and all Palihotel properties) purely due to aesthetics. Everything is cute with lots of fun details and decor. The walls are dark and moody with pops of vintage wall paper and mix of textures and colors. In one of the bookshelves I found a picture of the 5th King of Thailand is both random and perfect for me as I am Thai myself. The Palihotel has a great restaurant, the Blue Daisy with really good food (hard to come by in small boutique hotels) and great drinks. This alone makes it worth the stay, because while there is no room service being able to come down for a bite or a cocktail that isn't gross makes up for a lot. Other people complain about there being no thermostat which is true but it's California - If it's cold ask for another duvet, if it's hot sleep naked. It's also on Melrose close to the shops on Fairfax and the Grove of f you're into it. Overall a cute hotel with a good restaurant so perfect in my book.

Armida S.

Yelp
Cute little boutique hotel. Nice industrial decor Comfy bed. We got the queen with a terrace room. The terrace was a nice size although it didn't have patio furniture. We had chairs in the car. The room was large with a vintage full size sofa and the bed. The bathroom was vintage as well and the rainfall shower head was great. Nice and hot water. The staff was friendly Especially Juan. He set us up in a corner room and it was perfect. We will consider staying agsin if we're in this area again.

Yelp
YOUR ROOM DOESNT HAVE A/C!!!! THIS NEEDS TO BE ADVERTISED!!! LET YOUR CUSTOMERS KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFOREHAND!!! Ok so, hotel is beautiful. We got a good price on booking.com (about half of what a room goes for per night). Staff was very nice also. The problem was that there is no a/c unit in your room!!! The thermostat is in the hallway and it controls all the rooms on that hall. It was 75° when we got in the room and it was way cooler outside. How is a hotel gonna charge $200+ a night and not have an a/c unit in each room? Like wtf?!? I understand that SoCal has wonderful temps, and that's amazing. However I like to sleep with it cold and we don't have that option. I mean a cheap motel even has a/c units in their rooms and doesn't charge it's much. ALSO it was a queen been in the room when there was plenty of room for a king. Why wouldn't you offer a king? So strange for a boutique hotel. Again, staff was very nice and the place is very pretty. But unless u like to sleep with it like warm in your room I would NOT recommend this place at all. EXTREMELY annoyed over this. Also the bed is HARD!! We sat on it while we looked for another room and baaaby it was hard.

Amanda H.

Yelp
If you want to feel like you're staying at a halfway house for $300/night, this is for you. I expected quirky boutique, which it is, but did not expect: - No A/C which is centrally controlled so I asked several times for my first floor room to be cooled down but still couldn't sleep at night because it was still so warm. - While a window opened for relief, it opened to an alley and dumpster and leaving it open all night was not safe. - No phone in the room --you guys...no phone! to contact the front desk and while it's a short walk to the front desk, getting dressed in the middle of the night to go tell them again that my room was uncomfortably warm was ridiculous. - Dark, dingy decor that could have been Hollywood-hotel charming but between the high gloss paint, missing faucet fixture pieces, and no closet, it just felt like a cheap, dated apartment. - Well stocked but high priced mini bar and this Palihotel did not have the signature SMEG fridge. Just a standard hotel fridge. - No apparent TV streaming apps or even channel guide for the useless tv. - The advertised coffee bar and happy hour were poorly stocked and set up. Eg no napkins, no white wine (or any basic variety of beer or wine, no water). - Poor service--front desk people were nice enough but attentive service to the coffee and happy hour needs of guests could have balanced the experience. It was my birthday and there was a charming gift of a boutique tote left with a nice note and cold beers. I thought that would make up for the experience but after 2 sleepless nights, I can't say it did. I know Hollywood hotels are expensive and ill situated--I've stayed at a lot of them while visiting my daughter. And I get I may not be the ideal clientele for this one. But I will never stay here again.

Mishael T.

Yelp
Neat hotel in Melrose. Good location as you're within decent walking distance to a lot of West Hollywood but for much cheaper than the hotels in that area.

Bri E.

Yelp
I had the most amazing stay here for my work trip, the front desk staff are lovely. Rosalyn was so kind, helpful, and genuinely lovely! She helped me get booked and had excellent customer service. The rooms are cozy, dark, and comfortable. I loved the vintage boutique feel, and the cafe was delicious with exceptional customer service! I will definitely be coming back.

Nadia D.

Yelp
I did not enjoy my experience at this location on Melrose. I work for high profile individuals who thought of hosting a rendezvous there at the bar. So I went to get an overview of the place and I was very disappointed. I felt a sense of racism there! I will never recommend this place to any of my high profile clients. Terrible energy. It's LA you never know who might walk in your doors. Regardless of race it's important to treat everyone with kindness and great service.

Monique M.

Yelp
I can't not discourage you from staying at this hotel enough. Terrible management. Hidden fees. Lack of transparency about rules and regulations. Got told we were smoking in our room when we were not! Then got charged $500 for it even after disputing it. Manager even tried to claim he found cigarette butts and ashes in our room. Just lies. Don't stay here! Short Stories is better!!

Yelp
O8/19/22 - around 5 PM. Rude service. The Palihotel front desk woman was not interested in booking or helping me find a room with their establishment. Was turned away by the front desk host within minutes and told to search online for a room. Very dismissive attitude, confrontational and brusque. Felt discriminated against. Never felt or have been treated like this at any Los Angeles hotel. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to be treated with respect. Unfortunate to find such a disrespectful establishment in my neighborhood.

Gene D.

Yelp
I just understand Pali and what they do here & in Seattle. I love it. That is all. Ok that was short. Anyway, the aesthetic, locations, service, Hart & Hunter - it simply works for me. I see for many online it hasn't. A shame, really. I'm not quite sure every single inconvenience, perceived slight or first world problem merits a complaint, especially when Pali offers its price/value ratio so perfectly. Parades are expensive. If you want one, there is always the Waldorf Astoria, due west of this.

Yelp
We loved this place. My wife and I stayed here for a few days around Fourth of July last year and thought it was great. We almost got scared off by bad reviews but we are glad we didn't. The Palihotel is very quaint and unique. The room isn't over the top with luxuries but it is perfectly comfortable and nice. Compared to other hotels in the area, it is also much more reasonably priced. They do have covered parking if you drive. Nice location among the shops on Melrose and a couple blocks from Melrose Trading. Would definitely recommend if you are looking for somewhere affordable, cute, clean and comfortable. Front desk staff was also very nice and helpful and we even ended up staying an extra night.

Nikki T.

Yelp
Cute hotel but I booked twin beds for me & my mum, only to be told upon arrival that I had been 'upgraded' to a queen room.....but this room only had one actual bed. The other 'bed' was a sofa with a sheet, a rug, 1 pillow & 2 sofa cushions. SO UNCOMFORTABLE!!!!!! I complained when we arrived only to be told there was no solution, that all the twin rooms were occupied - the guy at the desk, Kevin, finally agreed to a free round of drinks as an apology but I had to ask for this, he didn't offer, and I still had a crap nights sleep & my back hurts.

Layla B.

Yelp
Cute, quaint, quirky place! We stayed two nights recently and enjoyed it. Nice location with a lot to see/shop/eat within walking distance. All the staff we came in contact with were very kind and helpful! The parking garage can fit maybe 15 cars? But was still safe and secure to park in over the weekend. This is NOT a traditional hotel. The rooms are a little dark, lit with lamps. There's not a closet in the room, but there are racks and hangers to hold up clothing. The a/c is controlled by the front desk rather than yourself in the room. They do not have a full breakfast bar either, but provide complimentary coffee, muffins, and croissants--perfect for a quick bite on the way out. The room was cute, cozy, and felt vintage. Bedding and pillows were soft and comfortable. The shower head and water pressure were AMAZING. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were a nice, quality brand that I enjoyed using and smelled great! The only downside was the noise. The walls were definitely thin-- I woke up a few times each night because I could hear my next door neighbors talking. The windows picked up on some street noise overnight too, but it wasn't too bad compared to the thin walls sadly. If you're a light sleeper, maybe pick another hotel. For the price paid, maybe I wouldn't stay at this location again. I've never stayed at any other Palihotel, but this one was cute!

Shelley M.

Yelp
1. They're one of those places that doesn't honor the stated check in time. Was there on a slow day after another slow day and occupancy seemed low. Nonetheless we were told it would be 10 minutes then when I asked about 15 minutes later, another 10 minutes. Paying for one of the most expensive rooms in the place. I often wonder if it cost them $10 for every minute they make you wait past check in time, if there would ever be a problem? I bet not. The only place to wait has no open windows so every extra minute you wait you're getting some good omicron exposure. The guy vacuuming the front wasn't wearing a mask despite the statewide law. He didn't put one on until I pointed it out to the front desk. After waiting several minutes past the time we had been told it would be ready, I asked and front desk staff man said "your room is ready but..." as he continues to talk to two guests who were mysteriously charged double for their room, while the other woman staff person working there looks on and ignores me. We were then told this was happening because the people who stayed in our room before checked out late. But we learned later they offer to let people check out late if you pay a fee. So if someone pays a fee to check out late, they feel it's ok to tell customers paying almost $300 a night that they have to wait past check in time and lose time in the room. Doesn't seem right to profit off that. Maybe offer free late check out to guests when this happens? Or a reduction in the charge for the night since you're losing time in the room while waiting in the tiny unventilated lobby with several people all this time? 2. Parking is horrible. It's underground and you have to ask every time you go out for them to come and let you back in. Expect delays if anyone is in line since only one staff can help any customer at any time even if 3 staff are standing there. 3. Internet is weak. It worked ok the first night but then refused to go to most websites or to load any pages without a several minute long delay. I called to ask if they could reset the modem and was told "we will check on that." Wireless never got better. Hard to do anything on any websites let alone stream.. could not for instance get American Express or Wells Fargo websites to load to do things I needed to do. I just closed it and stopped trying to do anything because it was a waste of time. 4. I liked the room and the location. The decor is a little outdated in an early 2000s dark wood and rugs way, but I kind of liked it. My room was large and attractive with a nice bathroom. I liked being able to walk around and it's centrally located. It's bad though that you can't control the heat and air from your room. There is no phone in the room to call down to staff, so you are supposed to use an app to tell them when you are too hot or too cold or you need something. We used it and asked for a space heater and got one two hours later. Too bad so many bad things outweighed the decent room and location in my opinion. wouldn't stay there again probably.

Rachel W.

Yelp
This hotel was infuriating. They seemed to have spent their entire budget on fake books and trendy decor, at the expense of the basics. The "free" coffee service was only from 6 to 8 a.m. on weekends. The walls were paper thin--I could hear the entire conversation of the people in the next room at 1:00 in the morning. The sink faucets didn't work right, the mattress sucked, there was no furniture on the balcony. And most irksome of all: No thermostats in the rooms/no way to control the temperature. Also, the mini fridge was filled with expensive bottles of booze so there was nowhere to put leftovers. I really hated this place. Save your money and stay elsewhere!

William Q.

Yelp
Love the hotel and I also love the staffs there. When booking the hotel through Travelocity a week ago, their website was experiencing some problem and asked me to call the hotel directly. First I spoke with Collin and he patiently walked me through the registration process. When I checked in on Monday night, Makeda at the front desk welcomed me with a big smile and gave detailed attention the entire time. When I was checking out the next day, Angel at the desk was friendly and polite and professional. Pali-Melrose offers a trendy urban and contemporary design theme throughout the entire compound. The rooms are nicely decorated and full of inspirational decorative ideas. It was a design treat to stay there. It is the hotspot for anyone who enjoys an upbeat atmosphere. It is definitely a place where I will return to lodge again.

Yelp
HAUNTED! Bates Motel! Run for your life! Hotel California. Noisy! Laughter, banging on our door all night, many running footsteps above our heads.Tv blasting from "neighbors" to find out we were the ONLY GUESTS IN HOTEL THAT NIGHT, sirens every 5 minutes. Apartment noise next door. Creepy and dark !! It was once a youth hostel. Homeless looming all around the tiny property. WHEN we tried to get out the creepy clerk started screaming at us twice saying he wasn't giving us a refund. We had to call the cops so scary experience. Finally the nice manager called and we spoke to him he was calm and assuring that we'd get a refund. It was traumatic for us. No thanks I highly suggest you stay elsewhere.

Yelp
I am currently staying at the Polihotel in West Hollywood. I booked 2 rooms one for a total of 5 and the other for 4 nights. One Of the rooms was for the amount of $863.32 and the other room for $694.31. The ending total for both rooms should had been $1,557.63. , but instead it finished being $2,420.96 that is an additional 863.32 to my bank account. Upon check in the front desk agent ran my debit credit card several times for my rooms . Every-time she ran my card , it kept placing an hold on my funds on my card. Leaving me with out money for my 5 night stay in Hollywood. I tried to explain this to several people in front desk including a gentelmen by the name of Leo . That's when the blame game started . I was told it was my fault because my card declined , that it was bookings.com fault , that I needed to contact booking .com so that I could have this sorted out. And finally that I need to call my bank so I can get my money back. All of this is confusing and frustrating , No one at the front desk wanted to help , the attitude was like they did not care, there was no ownership what so ever. I have been in the hotel business for over 21 years , when situations like this occurs the hotel and the guest will come up with a solution together. I told Leo that the hotel needed to call my bank and provide their merchant number, and that the bank was going to request a letter from the hotel requesting that release . The response I got was that I was the one that need to contact the bank. So here I am ; day three ,stuck in my hotel room trying to get this sorted out . I had to cancel most of the activities and my first time vacations to LA have been ruin. I would have been nice if a staff member would have explained this. Beware !

Yelp
It breaks my heart to see the rating for this lovely establishment. It makes no sense to me. I've been fortunate enough to stay in this hotel for 2 separate weeks at a time in January 2021... and just starting another week today! I'm a COVID Compliance Officer so I'm VERY picky about where I stay. This place is a dream. I'm obsessed with the decor. Literally, EVERY staff member I have interacted with has been ridiculously helpful and kind, it always catches me off guard how personable they are, I catch myself questioning their motives...lol. The rooms are immaculate and so cozy you never want to leave. The hotel takes safety very seriously, I see rooms being "aired out" during the day and they take everyone's temperature upon arrival. I'll say it. I wish I lived here. They even have a "signature" scent/perfume that they offer for purchase...and it smells exactly like the decor...Eclectic, Lush, Classy, Dark, Cigar-y, Old Money, Spicy, British, Quirky and Lingering. It's wonderfully deliberate and smells amazing. It's not cheap...but I just can't go home without a bottle this time! If you get a chance to stay her...DO IT. If you live in Los Angeles and need a quick "get away from the world" hunker down in one of these rooms...I've been in so many and they ALL have various lighting options. It's like they hired an award winning Director of Photography to set up these rooms. It's as if you are residing in a classic 1940's movie. Well, it doesn't get better than that...so I'll stop now. x

Yelp
Nice to have a boutique hotel, however... the entire Pali society as a brand has the worst customer service experience imaginable. The staff is full of downright bizarre personalities. It's like being in the twilight zone. No one can help you... the front desk passes you off to the Pali Society phone line, but the Pali Society people say the exact opposite... So you're just tossed around like an idiot on the worlds most problematic phone system. Quick note, the West Hollywood locations phone menu doesn't even work. It's nearly impossible to get ahold of anyone because selecting a menu option on the touch tone pad does not register in anyway... the menu just keeps saying you have to select an option over and over again as you're continuously and ferociously pretty 1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1 and nothing happens. Back to the melrose location, they don't answer the phone at all... it just rings & rings at certain points in the day. Occasionally you are greeting by an extremely useless man who clearly hates his job. I asked for a final hotel folio bill today... to which the front desk replied "ok. it should send out to you at midnight, if you don't get it call us back" ... Unacceptable. I am the customer and you need to do more to make sure I have that bill in a timely manor. "Maybe it will come at midnight" is a pathetic answer. I called the Pali Society but "only the front desk can retrieve folios" To date, after managing a 28 night stay for my company travel, the Pali Society phone number has been very professional... at doing nothing... and therefore serving no purpose. In my opinion, those who work off site are stealing from the company by taking paychecks. The West Hollywood location is just as bad in terms of terrible personalities. Miserable people who all seem like its their first day on the job. And no, I'm not a Karen, but I have a lot of wonderful people in my life who work jobs just like this and do it perfectly with hard work and passion. So to accept anything less is a slap in the face to people who take customer service jobs seriously. Clean house. Literally. Fire the entire staff. I almost forgot to add, I needed to alter one of my reservations to which the moron at the front desk replied "oh... uhh only management can do that and they are only here 9A-3P"... 3P is the cut off time for basic customer service? Must be nice.

Yelp
- No phone or thermostat in room so if you need something from the front desk or need to change the temperature, you have to request this all through a tablet. There's some pre-picked requests, but if you need something else, it'll take you a while to type it all up for them - Walls are incredibly thin, where you'll hear your neighbors on the phone, walking around, their TV. We were woken up at 7:30 AM each morning and kept up at night by another neighbor who would have friends over starting at 11 PM until late - Basically no amenities, so no complimentary coffee, bathroom necessities, water, etc. - There's no closet and of course no iron, so if you need to iron or steam your clothes to look nice, find a different solution - Something about the bed made me itchy, and my partner got allergies. I checked for bed bugs but didn't find any, so maybe it's just the quality of the sheets Only not giving this place a one star because of the location, which is great. Other than that, I didn't really enjoy my stay and would not stay here again.

Yelp
Hotel is in a fantastic location, walkable to The Grove and Sunset Plaza. The hotel has a unique style. The rooms could be cleaner and better maintained.

Yelp
If you enjoy the scene that is the melrose/fairfax neighborhood, Palihotel is the perfect backdrop for your instagram selfies and a solid place to lay your head at night without breaking the bank. My wife and I stayed here with our 2 month old baby to celebrate our 1 year anniversary. We had a blast. We hadn't been out of the house for what seemed like forever. We need this! The staff was super accommodating, a friendly young dude at the front desk (Tyler?) allowed us to switch to a room with a better view seeing as it was our anniversary and were checking in late anyway. The neighborhood is as walkable as they get in LA and there's a well known flea market across the street on Sundays the most entertaining people-watching LA has to offer. Yuppies, hipsters, butt cleavage, sneakerheads, IV drug users, B and C-list celebrities, instagram "models" ... they're all at the flea market. I'm off topic, back to the hotel ... The rooms are small and kind of dark, adorned with hipsterish/campy knick-knacks. We were into it. The queen size bed was comfortable. The baby slept most of the night. We were happy. Truth is, we didn't come to sit around in a hotel room. We came to ... 1) have dinner at our favorite Thai restaurant, Toi Rockin' Thai 2) eat breakfast at Canters (legendary) 3) see the puppies at Barkin' Bitches 4) window shop on Fairfax (LA's streetwear hub) 5) eat lunch at the farmer's market on 3rd street (lots of options) Regardless of where you stay... you're welcome to borrow our 24 hour itinerary if you like ;)

Yelp
Just cause cause it shares the same now as the Palihouse, don't be shocked when you realize they are polar opposites. The Palihotel is far from far from a hotel. Horrible services, dirty rooms, don't be fooled by the name and a good price like I did.

Yelp
This is right on Melrose and conveniently located for where I needed to be. The feel walking in is that of a bright, well decorated boutique hotel with a big plush couch, colorful rug and pretty plants. The reception desk is right through, where you are also looking into the Hart and Hunter cafe, and a small seating area. Loving this so far. The rooms on the first floor are through a dark curtain, dark hallway, and then into a dark room. The windows were drawn as you look right out (or they look right in) to Melrose Ave. Great dark room for sleeping but a little annoying for anyone spending time in the room during the daytime- hey, go get outside I guess? The room had a comfy bed, small couch and desk, with little room around that to walk around. The bathroom was even less desirable than the dark room- take a dark bathroom, with no counter space (just a tiny half shelf above the toilet-for fear that all your makeup will fall into the toilet ), only one towel hook (for a room that occupies 2ppl), no hand towels and an outdated shower. Minibar is also something I love to comment on- well stocked with gourmet snacks and different items you forget to pack in a pinch. But the most memorable thing from this mini-bar is that the water was $15. I stay at a lot of boutque hotels and I'm used to outrageous mini bar prices, but this one specifically I needed to document. I stayed here primarily because of price comparison, and that's the only reason I would stay again. It was a fine experience but there are definitely some quirks.

Yelp
I've stayed at many hotels and have even worked for Hilton and this place has to be the most unique and fun place I've ever stayed at. From check in with the amazing and most hospitable Hector, it was an amazing stay, to say the least. My room had two twin sized beds which were the last option available for my trip, which I won't lie, worried me but they turned out to be fine and very comfortable. The hotel is located in walking distance to all the Melrose shops, bars, and restaurants and I would definitely tell anything, that has an open mind to stay here.. Hopefully, you are as lucky as I was to have Hector help you at check-in but I'm sure everyone else there was just as amazing. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for a great weekend! I'll be back for SURE!

Yelp
This place is trying way too hard to be trendy and as a result was just uncomfortable. The room looks like something a nomad would rent out in the 1920's so if you're into that, power to you. Carpets were dirty, the paint looked like the shiny old school lead paint that used to be in my grandmas apartment in the 80s. There was no thermostat in the room, which was weird to me. Bed was comfortable, which was a plus. And the entire staff was super nice! Would not book here again. Place felt haunted and creepy. Hard pass.

Yelp
I've stayed at many boutique hotels but Palihotel Melrose tops my list for LA. From the location to the room to the friendly staff, looking forward to my next trip! And thank you to Hector at the front desk for the excellent service and the insight into places to go!!

Yelp
We've had a great stay here. It's quaint, great location and the staff is wonderful. Brian has taken really good care of us! He was very responsive to our special requests.

Yelp
Cute, clean & affordable. TV was a tad small, and walls are a bit thin. Yet, for the location and the price, it's a worthy of crashing for a night or two. I like that you can pay to park in their locked underground garage. A well stocked mini fridge and great snacks (probably spent more on that than the room).

Yelp
So, you should know that it isn't FANCY, per se. It is relatively minimal, but even so, it is well-appointed and charming. I had red wine & snickers for dinner from the mini bar. Ambrosia was the beautiful young woman who checked me in, and she was entirely gracious and kind, making me feel so welcome. I appreciate the hospitality so much! This hotel is brilliant for the price, I think. Walls are thin, it's not luxury, but it is GOOD. And that's enough sometimes, ya know? Thank you Palihotel - I'm grateful to know you exist just down the road from me (I live in Santa Monica).

Yelp
I have so many mixed thoughts of this hotel. First. Many people have said location, location, location. Melrose is dirty and full of dirty sidewalks with filth, litter and human or dog feces, and homeless. If you have an SUV, or a truck they don't tell you, you cannot clear the low parking garage. If you're lucky to get a spot on the street, you have to move your car by 8 am. Parking enforcement is in full swing to ticket you. And at a hefty over 100 dollar fine. Next the rooms. Very small!! With the WORST lighting beyond!!! It's so dark!! We stayed on the 2nd floor and had a skylight in the bathroom (which helped) a little with light???? The bathrooms have one tiny glass shelf that literally fits your tooth brush and paste. No room for hair accessories, makeup etc. fantastic water pressure and very hot showers! The showers were amazing!!! No closets, so you are literally living out of your suitcase. Overall ambiance is "English hunting lodge, slash horror movie" vibe. Dark. I was a-bit almost claustrophobic. The room was clean. They pride themselves on their quality linens. Um, a scratchy, itchy wool blanket was the main source of bedding. The pillows were lumpy. Sheets were okay. The restaurant had great food with great portions! But the service was terrible. I definitely wouldn't recommend this hotel to a family with young kids, or kids. Great for a young 20 something looking for a decent place to crash and party. And a deal breaker that you don't have control for temperature in your own room. It is shared by four rooms and "everyone" has to agree on temperature that is controlled by management.

Yelp
Breakfast doesn't start until 9am on Sat lol. This place is old and shitty and they only have service to keep the boho-punk old hotel vibe working...and the service sucks shit. Like a crappy old NY hotel with $13 bottles of water.

Yelp
There are a few quirky things aout this place. It's definatl a Hipster's wet dream. Vintange everything, snobby staff and a nice restaurant with basic family-style servings. The vintage everything yould have stopped with the lighting and lack of power outlets (there have been three, includeing the bath). Lights are so dark you can barely see youre face in the bathroom. This might be due to the vintage bulps or the vintage dark green on the walls. due to the building and its possition at Melrose Boulevard it is also quite noise, if your room is facing the street, or your neighbors are shouting around. On the upside, the staff is actually friendly and this place has a reasonable price point for LA and this part of town.

Yelp
Checked out this hotel for my photo workshop participants today. Having been extremely impressed with their sister houses I wanted to check out this budget version - and liked it a lot. We had breakfast - very nice and the staff was extremely friendly. We looked at some rooms - if you are from Europe and like the Penta Hotels, you'll like this one. I am a bit put off by the comments below, but then, if some one already starts with "I asked the chick at the front desk...." one instantly knows that "dude" as problems that are far outside the hotel ;-)

Yelp
Great place for somewhere to crash while visiting L.A. for pleasure. Terrible for business. Also, good if you want to pretend you're staying in Paris with the low lighting and scary elevator. The rooms are decorated with a modern, Anthro-esque rustic feel. I was surprised to find a fully stocked fridge in the room, but there was no phone to the front desk and no drawers or closet in which to place my clothing. I guess it's ok to assume that I might have a cell phone to make calls, but what if I were on an unplugged vacay? Unrealistic? How about a first-world emergency? Tough shit? The hotel is conveniently located on the good side of Melrose with all of the better shops just west and within walking distance. Great eats like Animal and Providence are not too far. The front desk is super nice. The parking for the hotel is a small, underground situation, but there's also street parking that doesn't subject you to reading 50 signs before you can determine whether or not it's okay to park there. I stayed here on business but that will not happen again. The wifi connection was shite and I couldn't conduct any business. I would have even appreciated some hipster "business center". Other than that, would recommend this place to anyone looking for access to shopping, restaurants, and a central location for doing tourist stuff.

Yelp
I just stayed at the Palihotel on Tuesday 7/24 after getting a great deal on Hotel Tonight. I visited their website so I knew what to expect upon arrival and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were cooler than I thought they'd be and the location is perfect. The staff was very friendly and the toiletries in the bathroom were awesome. I regret not buying the robe, it was super comfy. The Superette Cafe in the lobby makes a killer Iced Americano to jumpstart your morning and serves fresh snacks. It's more than adequate. I don't know what the big deal is about not having a phone on the room, the place is so small that if you need something you can run down to the front desk or just use your cell phone. Who, in this day and age needs a landline? The wifi may not be lightning fast but at least it's free. I was disappointed that I was only staying one night. I can't wait to go back to LA and stay here again. If you're a needy person that requires room service and likes to bother front desk people this probably isn't the spot for you and you probably won't fit in with the other guests. Do some homework before you travel.

Yelp
I found this place when I first moved to LA and was looking for an apartment. I was using the HotelTonight iphone app for low prices and got lucky finding this gem. I was exhausted and completely out of my element but this place helped with its fantastic customer service, eclectic and amazing design and comforting beds. This was my first taste of this type of hotel and I loved it, it made me excited for LA, the unique, individualism, open-minded lifestyle that I was hoping for! The front desk was great, they helped clue me in on the rooms as well as giving me a few ideas for apartment searches. I could have talked to the guys working forever. The design was so fun and unique, it felt like a combo of industrial, masculine, sherlock holmes-ish... i don't know what you would call it, other than straight comfort. Sure its simple and isn't over the top with amenities but there are so many clever additions in the room & hotel or use of design that you can relax and feel more at home versus being uptight and too modern. So maybe it's all in what you're looking for or what your price range is or your style. But I loved it and it helped inspire me to learn more about interior design and adding more fun, fresh, eclectic & clever designs to my own apartment. The snack bar offerings in room was dangerous. By that i mean... delicious. Not your typical boring stuff but fun throwback snacks or new age healthy options. Something for everyone, I definitely took advantage since the pricing on items were like you would find in a grocery store versus a theme park. ie they don't jack up prices for profit. They offer Thai massage-which if you haven't had one, it's amazing. It's like assisted yoga stretching and relaxing but deep muscle rejuvenation. When I stayed they hadn't opened the Cafe yet, I'm looking forward to going back to try it. The menu sounds fantastic. Yea I love it, they have another spot called PaliHotel nearby and I'm super excited they're bringing a PaliHouse to Santa Monica. I like this hotel group, looking forward to seeing what they turnout next!

Yelp
Horrible service professionalism, it's chaos the space at atmosphere is not trendy!!! Mind your manner and look else whereI am sure they have good days but seem too chaotic,I felt ictchy in the bedsheet and time I thought I saw a bedbug

Yelp
I made a late night reservation through hotwire but I guess it was for the next day instead of that night. The person on the front desk told me to cancel through the website so there will be no extra charge. Room looks super cute. Weird how there was no telephone! No additional charge for parking which is a nice plus!

Yelp
Palihotel Melrose is a nice and stylish place to stay. The staff here is friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. Alex at the front desk is helpful, amazing and pleasant. I am looking forward to coming back soon! Thank You!

Yelp
Been to H&TH multiple times and it's one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Palihotel looks so adorable and stylish, decided to stay there for a lil weekend trip. Checking was seamless but once we got into the room it was SWELTERING. Had to open the door and a member of staff had to come check the vents. Once we settled in we noticed the carpet was kinda scary and in need of being replaced, otherwise the room was clean. Bed was comfy, sleep was practically nonexistent. The walls are extremely thin. I could hear our neighbor on speakerphone all night. Seriously. Until about 4am. In the morning I realized the rooms were such a dark teal green that it is practically impossible to do your makeup. I had to go out on the balcony. It was raining. I was over it. Speaking of rain, the rain shower head is epic but the water didn't go down the drain fast enough and I was wading up to my ankles. The hotel is so cute and trendy that I just expected more at almost 300$ a night. The basics should be executed flawlessly at this point. Upon checkout I was not thanked. That really stuck with me. I was just told I was good to go. There were check-ins behind me and I didn't want to be "that person", so we left. But we won't be back. Also, got our email folio the next day with erroneous charges from the minibar which was the icing on the cake.
