"Haggis and More at Òran Mór Translating into ‘big song’ in Gaelic, Òran Mór is a linchpin of entertainment in Glasgow’s trendy west end. Located in the former Kelvinside Parish Church, this stunner of a venue is host to concerts (think FKA Twigs), plays (the irresistible play, pie and pint combo), and weddings (naturally) in addition to being a charming restaurant. While I tried my first haggis in Edinburgh, it really fell flat in comparison to this one. Though it’s easy to thistle-up at the idea of eating a sheep’s innards, it’s actually of little concern once you’re hungry and diving into a plate of it. Haggis is whipped up from a sheep’s pluck — aka their heart, liver and lungs — and comes hacked up with onion, oatmeal and plenty of spices. Following the makeover it’s pretty unrecognizable. Traditionally it comes served with neeps and tatties, a rather charming way of saying mashed turnips and potatoes. Here the goods arrive drenched in whiskey sauce and chances are, you’ll eat every bite."

13 Best Bars on Nantucket | Eater Boston

"Perched above an art gallery and an antique store, Òran Mór is quintessential Nantucket with its homey, subtly nautical decor. The intimate round bar looks like something out of a captain’s cabin, embellished with maritime quotes and illustrations. It may not look like a spot for trendy drinks, but the menu is creative and modern with a perfect mix of spirit-forward cocktails and more tropical, refreshing libations. Òran Mór is requesting that customers are fully vaccinated. Reserve here." - Katie Faust Stryjewski

We didn't eat here but have been to the Òran Mór for a few gigs and I like it! It's usually clean, the bar staff seem nice and the toilets are never messy...a real plus considering some of the pubs I've been to in the area! All in all, recommended.

Google
An incredible space - bar, restaurant, theatre! If you want delicious Scottish food, a wonderful atmosphere and a fantastic selection of drinks head here. Try the Cullen Skink and a steak. The vegetarian options were also delicious. We had excellent, attentive and friendly service from Abby. We would definitely recommend here to all and I will definitely come back next time I am in Glasgow.

Absolutely beautiful venue…. We are here for a gig seeing Lisa mchugh but went for light bites and cocktails beforehand and it was fantastic, lovely welcome and great service by all staff especially our server JULES who was fun and friendly! I highly recommend for food and drinks if you love traditional Scottish feeling 🥰 We will be back! 🩷

The food was amazing! We ordered the croquettes, chicken tikka masala and the trifle. The food was delicious but they got my dessert order wrong and they were really generous and gave us the dessert for free - the service and hospitality was brilliant!

Had lunch here. The menu is varied and there is snacks as well as the three course menu available. The bar staff were ok but the waiting staff more than made up for this in humour and big smiles. Hence the top rating. The fries looked great and were a favourite amongst the other customers..

Yelp
Oran Mor is the quintessential Glasgow pub experience. The converted church pays homage to Scotland's premier naturalists-- John Muir. The atmosphere is cozy, with art-deco interior. Whiskey selection is amazing. Paired with a walk through Glasgow Botanical gardens across the street, this is a must for anyone visiting Glasgow. It's a glowing memory for me, of my time in Scotland.

Yelp
I visited this venue twice, during my stay in Glasgow. It's a cool multi-segmented venue in an old converted church, made up of bar, restaurant, and a basement theater. The evening I arrived into Glasgow, I enjoyed a cider in the vast bar. It was a little drafty but I figured that this was the tradeoff for boozing in a centuries-old stone building with cool details. Lots of stained glass, central bar with carved wood, and little nooks and crannies for seating. Tons of artwork adorned the ceiling and walls. Oh, and my cider from Somerset was excellent. The following day, I took the group I was traveling with, to attend "A Play, a Pie, and Pint," which was a noontime performance of a play in their basement. Tickets were only $12. The play was a comedy called "Jocky Wilson Said," and featured a lot of bawdy humor, most of which my untrained American ears did not comprehend. It was still entertaining. Such a good deal, when you consider that pie/quiche and pint are included with the show. Such a cool activity for lunchtime, whether you're a tourist or local.

Yelp
Highly recommend. I have had occasion to visit the bar as well as the event/banquet/ballroom facility. The former had a cheerful, almost cozy vibe with a decent crowd for a Monday night. The latter sits so high above your average hotel ballroom; the decor is everything - stylish, clean and versatile in layout and design. Beyond the architecture, what really sets this place apart is the staff. They found my phone and were so kind as to call the "If found..." number on my lock screen. A low bar maybe, but I'm no less grateful for the effort. Special shout-out to bar manager David for his professionalism, patience, and efforts to reunite me with my phone. I'm telling y'all, this is the place. Go by just to check out the spaces (I love reimagined, repurposed buildings), take in the atmosphere over a pint, then book your event there.

Yelp
Last stop on my 1st night in Glasgow was no disappointment, we headed on into the Oran Mor, and what a great spot to end the night at. Oran Mor was a church turned into a bar/restaurant, the church was built in 1862, that's a lot of history right there. The Oran Mor is an impressive building, even has a bell tower. The inside is rich with detail as well. I could easy spend hours just looking around. After midnight this is the stop to be, it becomes crowded quickly, but still able to get to service. I'm sure if I had more in Glasgow this would wind up my best nigh cap stop.

Yelp
This is an old church building turned pub/restaurant/theater!!! Gorgeous inside and out. Really beautiful old world classic feel in every room. Has three bars that I saw: Victorian bar, Whisky Bar, and John Muir Bar. Sat for a couple drams of Balvanie 14yr Caribbean cask Single Malt Scotch which was just perfect on a rainy day. Bartender chose it as I told him I liked something on the sweeter side. There were stained glass windows, beautiful paintings, and a cozy seat or corner with dim lighting to relax by all around. Good for locals and visitors alike. I'm returning here whenever I get the chance.

Yelp
Such rude staff. Friend spilt drink on me and they insisted on having the small roll of blue roll back

Yelp
For me, the Oran Mor is a bit of a mixed bag. Of course it's a beautiful building and everyone should visit it at least once, but the experience you have in the main bar is a different one to that which you have in the theatre/gig venue downstairs. That is also different again to the experience you have in the the dining room upstairs. The main bar is a lovely place to sit and wins points for being open quite late and for being spacious and visually impressive. Its a cool place to take visitors to Glasgow, to show off the pub that used to be a bar and to let them try the extensive whisky selection. The food is good. They have a good pub quiz and sometimes live music. However, I'm not much of a whisky drinker and, even if I were, there are other, cheaper whisky bars nearby with longer menus. All of this conspires to make me think of the Oran Mor as being, "for the tourists." The venue downstairs, on the other hand, is very different. The bar isn't so extensive and doesn't have the same whisky selection, mostly serving beer and wine. It's still a fantastic place to go see live entertainment. There are bigger venues in Glasgow (there are also smaller ones) but it's big enough for a good crowd. A really positive, fun atmosphere can easily develop here and that's true whether you're seeing music or comedy. It's also true if you're seeing theatre, and the Oran Mor's signature, A Play, A Pie and a Pint events are well worth looking out for, especially for theatre that can be a little off the wall. The dining room upstairs is perfect for a big event like a Christmas dinner or, as was the case when I visited a graduation celebration meal for a full graduating class. The food is good for large scale catering and the staff are absolutely tireless. Possibly the highlight, though, is the ceiling which was painted by Alasdair Gray. So, my thoughts are: By all means visit for events or for one last drink before pub closing, but don't live in the bar because they have a lot of whisky. This is Glasgow - whisky isn't hard to find.

Yelp
Yes I kept waffling as to wether or not this should be 3 or 4 stars, but I decided on three because I have to a have a few beers in me before I ever voluntarily come to the conclusion that I actually want to come here. That being said, I have had some pretty ridiculous, fun days/nights that have ended at the Oran Mor (OM). Notice how I said 'ended', this is one of the few late-night bars/clubs in the West End, so the wee hours of the morning are fascinating to say the least. It is usually some interesting mix of posh West Enders, students, and drunk asshats. Other reasons it gets 3 stars is the lack of music in the main floor pub. I know they want to instigate conversation or whatever, but even a little back ground music would set the atmosphere a bit better. The food, well I have eaten here once and would never do it again. I am definitely a drunk muncher and after the pretty horrible sandwich I had the one time, I would rather eat a Guinness. It can be a bit intimidating walking up to the door with the goon security. They give you a hard stare and say, "Have you had anything to drink?" I think wether I have been 1 beer or 9 gins in, I have said "oh, a few" every time with no issue...just make sure to concentrate walking up those stone stairs! Oh I forgot to mention, you are basically drinking in a huge, renovated, quite impressive church that has a club in the basement, a concert/theater hall, a pub, and an exclusive room. There is lots of pretty stained glass and cool ceilings etc. I guess at least if there is no music there is stained glass to gaze at. Another good thing to note, the blues on Sundays, from around 5-8, or so, is very good. Bottom line to do the Oran Mor right, have a few drinks and then pop by, or show up after the pubs close on the weekend for late night people-watching, or go on Sunday Funday to enjoy the live tunes.

Yelp
Huge selection of whiskey. Great friendly knowledgeable bartenders! Pub is inside an old church! I love the atmosphere. Place is clean and well maintained. Bathrooms are very clean as well.

Yelp
Truffle fries and crispy goat cheese salad to start. Lots of beer and of course gin and whiskey options too. this place has lots of seating inside and even some old school video games inside. Outside seating as well. When I first walked by I wasnt to sure about it when we walked by on the side because it looks vacant but went un anyway and we where glad we did.

Yelp
The crispy goat cheese salad...Oh my gosh SO GOOD. The truffle fries were a great starter too. This place is so great and I definitely recommend giving it a try if you pass through Glasgow! Take a walk in the botanical gardens and finish off a great day with Oran Mor!

Yelp
Sat outside and enjoyed the beautiful weather and people watching. Went inside to watch the World Cup semi-finals. Super yummy fries! Good service. Overall fun place. Wish I could transport Oran Mor to Santa Monica!

Yelp
My previous review for Oran Mor was just about it being a gig venue - when really, it's so much more than that. We went here for a meal before Electric Gardens at the Botanics - I'd made a booking in advance as we were a large group so we had about half of the John Muir room. This room is just off the main bar and serves a cheaper menu than the brasserie. When we first arrived the staff member I spoke to didn't know where the John Muir room was ... even though he was standing in front of it. Awkward. We were seated and from then on it was table service which was handy so we didn't have to go to the bar for drinks. We needed to be pretty prompt with ordering so we could get to the Electric Gardens and the staff were happy to take our order in two parts. The wait was a little longer than I'd have liked and we were left with about 10 minutes to eat our food before we had to go which wasn't ideal. But that being said, we were trying to eat-and-run within 40 minutes and I guess the kitchen did the best it could! I got the chicken burger and it was good. Nothing that stands out as a criticism (although the chicken was battered which was a little strange), it included chips and coleslaw for just £7.95. Pretty reasonable! I'm not sure I'd rush back to Oran Mor for the food alone, but it's still a great drinking/gig spot and well worth a visit.

Yelp
Jazz is a peculiar one. Despite it's positioning as a sort of modern alternative to classical, it often ends up sounding like they're making it up as they go along, which ironically they often are. Perhaps I'm missing something, but a three minute long snare solo that doesn't appear to follow any discernable rhythm or musical pattern isn't to me a sign of great talent. Even more bizarrely, despite it's shortcomings, I actually like going to the jazz. It's a strangely relaxing experience, and the bearded Liberal Democrats sharing your elbow room provide better drinking cohorts than the cretins staggering up and down Sauchihall Street. After a while you even get used to the music.
google avatar

Yelp
In the downstairs area of Oran Mor to see Seth Lakeman, who is the talented, creative side of ENGLISH FOLK music. A virtuoso on the violin and other stringed instruments and accompanied by young ,energetic and talented compatriots. The venue lends itself to small , intimate performances where the audience can get up beside the stage and really feel the performances . Most of the artists are available after the show signing cd, s etc. Who said it's easy being a musician having to promote their merchandise as well . Bar prices are pretty average for the West end and is reasonably well stocked . Plastic glasses are the drinking vessels of choice, sadly beer never tastes the same from them . However you can adjourn upstairs thereafter for a real pint or glass of wine, and with a bit of luck get the opportunity to se the musicians enjoying a bit of downtime .

Yelp
I've visited the Oran Mor a gazillion times over the years, and I love it. The basement is a big gig space, reminiscent of The Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh - awesome acoustics, very hot, and always great fun! Then there's the bit where the weddings are held. Stunning place, beautiful architecture and design everywhere you look. But I've never had a meal here. Until a couple of weeks ago when we popped in for a quick meal before heading to The Botanic Gardens for the inaugural Electric Gardens festival. It was much cheaper than I expected, and a lot less heavy on the Scottishy food than it could easily specialise in. I ended up going for a chicken tikka masala which was awesome - mildly spicy as I expected, and the perfect portion size. The staff were really helpful, and as soon as we said we were very short on time, rattled through the service. I'm looking forward to going back soon for another meal. And gigs obviously :)

Yelp
It makes me a little sad to have to downgrade to a three star for Oran Mor, but having recently popped down for some lunch, I was a little bit disappointed. I've eaten here before with Gordon M about a year ago, and while they serve pretty traditional pub fare in the main bar area, I was happy enough with the haggis I had. So I decided to pop down this afternoon for a quiet Sunday lunch with my book. Not being overly hungry - and after a weekend of excess with plenty of great food (and some not so great take-away chips and cheese!) - I decided the cullen skink would be a good option. On the plus side, this arrived in less than 5 minutes. And it's a hearty portion with two bread rolls and butter on the side. However, this is just way too creamy and doesn't have enough haddock to really please my tastes. If they could just get the proportions right, this could be lovely...and looking at other peoples reviews of this dish it seems they can do it, just for me it didn't quite hit the spot.

Yelp
Oran Mor... a place that has so many strings to it's bow, it should be called ORAN MORE, right? RIGHT? Please yourselves. Inside this converted old church is a stylish, multi-faceted venue. I've popped into here more often than not to the main bar; a huge room with booths taking up the outside of the room, and a central island bar in the middle. That island bar contains multitudes of whisky choices, one of the best whisky bars in the West End, in my humble opinion. They also have a nice selection of lagers, beers and ales on tap - I had a Caledonian Three Hops when I popped in this weekend, and it was perfectly chilled and poured. There's also food served here, I've never tried it, but haven't heard anyone say a bad word about it, so I'll have to get round to trying it (and also the famed A Play, A Pie and A Pint series that's ongoing) at some point. The gig area downstairs is one of my favourite intimate spaces in Glasgow - I've seen a few gigs there, and the sound is always impeccable - even the kazoo solo in the two Danny & Ben shows I've seen were clear as a bell! It's somewhere I really should visit more often. So I shall! Not tonight though, I have a pizza delivery to scoff. Priorities, people!

Yelp
I've done everything at the Oran Mor, from drinking to seeing a gig to performing there myself, and it's an alright venue for all of the above. Decent sized bar, which is normally incredibly busy, a lovely beer garden for when Glasgow gets a couple of days of sunshine, and a good time. The performance space downstairs is relatively large as well. There's a bar with a good sized stage and hundreds of tables and couches dotted all over the place. One time I performed upstairs in the actual church part of the building - how exciting! An okay place for drinks, but it certainly wouldn't be my first choice.

Yelp
I never thought I was going to like Oran Mor before it opened, having become somewhat jaded with the trend of chain pubs coming in and stealing the personality of previously untarnished buildings. And I just could not bear the thought of this happening to this gorgeous church. I was way to quick to judge, however - Oran Mor has injected a lot back into the Glasgow community! It plays host to a number of Scottish celebrities and local personalities, including its own interior designer Alisdair Gray. Gray, who has successfully emblazoned Glasgow with his unique style of phantasmagorical paintings, has added his own touches to this pub which instantly rate it as a national treasure for me. He used to reside in what became known as the Poets Pubs along with other contemporary Scottish writers and is now often spotted drinking his favourite tipple in the Oran Mor whisky bar. When I'm drunk I often catch myself staring up at his delicate artwork, splashed over the ceiling, with awe and admiration. So with this part of Scottish (and indeed, Glaswegian) heritage established, Oran Mor plays host to great gigs, A Play, A Pie and a Pint, not to mention the good food and drink they have on offer. The whisky bar offers as much choice as anything on Jura, and has a lovely, cozy atmosphere. But what makes the Oran Mor special is its courteous nod to Glaswegian heritage and culture, making it one to hit up if you're ever passing through.

Yelp
This place is awesome. I walked by it so many times not realizing it was a bar, because it's in an old church. The ambiance is amazing, and honestly, it's just gorgeous and worth the visit. In terms of the service, it's good, average. Prices as well. Admittedly I've only had drinks there because the food menu didn't appeal to us in that it doesn't seem particularly interesting or cheap, but going for drinks, it's a must-stop when on Byres Road!

Yelp
I used to not really like it here. I mean, I loved that it finally *was* something after having been a boarded up empty ex-church for god knows how long, and I loved that the whisky menu was a thing of true beauty, but they put a bloody great big blue halo on the spire, and the clientèle tended not to be my kind of people. Except... that the annoying club crowd don't seem to bother me so much, and I've been to a succession of good gigs in the basement, and a lovely wedding in the upstairs room, and it's open late all the time. Oran Mor is the not-terrible place you go after everywhere else is shut and you want a nightcap. It's also where you go for a pint after you've done your shop in Waitrose because you know, you need to be more west end, or something. There's often folk music. There's whisky. There's lovely staff. Win.

Yelp
This was my first gig at Oran Mor, and to be honest, one of only a handful of times I've been there. And I quickly realised the reason for that after a jaw dropping trip to the bar. We were seeing the amazing Scott Bradlee and Postmodern Jukebox, and arrived for doors opening. Through the Gt Western Rd entrance we made our way up the winding church staircase and in to the most beautiful venue I've ever seen. The ceiling was something akin to Grand Central Station, with Greek-esque astrological artwork. And the beautiful stain glass windows remind you of the origins of the building. Now, I expected the bar to be on the pricey side, but I confess I did utter a profanity or two when I was charged £8.20 for 2 Gordon's and tonic. Gun tonic at that! Not even bottled. I'll be taking a hip flask next visit!

Yelp
I wish I could give this place 5 stars for the ambience and service & 3 for everything else. The space itself is in a converted cathedral and is really cool. It still has stained glass windows and the bar area is really nice. Everyone on staff was incredibly nice (People Make Glasgow!) and attentive throughout our meal. All of that aside, we stopped here for lunch and it was a mistake. I ordered the sausage and mashed potatoes (bangers and mash?) and my girlfriend had the mac and cheese. While my meal was okay, it certainly wasn't great. I went a little overboard on the sausage and mashed potatoes during our UK trip ordering it at almost every other place, and this was certainly the worst. That being said, I would not call it bad - just not good. The mac and cheese, however, was bad. It was really under seasoned and generally unsatisfying. One might say, who orders mac and cheese in Glasgow, but then why put it on the menu? All in all, the space itself is really cool and apparently they have live music that is fun. My recommendation is to check it out for drinks, but get food somewhere else.

Yelp
I keep having to bring family and friends here when they visit me for the novelty of drinking in an old church. I had a toasty once and wasn't impressed. Saying that I've only ever been to the bar part.

Yelp
Despite coming here loads of times, I always feel a bit meh about Oran Mor. I've only really ever been to the bar before, so I can't comment on the theatre/club area downstairs (I've heard it's pretty good though). Oran Mor is almost always mobbed, no matter what night it is. A lot of this is due to the fact it's the only place in the West End open until 3am. I think this is the reason everything is pretty expensive, even for a West End bar I find it quite overpriced (usually I'm a good few drinks in when I come here so I don't usually cause a fuss at this point!). As a bar, it's open plan with a lot of seats....despite that, you'll struggle to get a table as it's so busy. Atmosphere is always good but, classic busy pub, lots of background chat. One thing I've never really enjoyed here is the service, always find it a bit rude, staff look like they can't be bothered serving you. (Again, this is probably due to the time of night I'm in here, not many sober souls around!). This is a decent bar to head to when 12am hits and you want to keep going. But it's the only time I'll head in here, when there's nowhere else to go.

Yelp
Came for a seated gig in the downstairs bit. The seats are HELLA UNCOMFY. Luckily, there was a free one next to me so I could spread out to relieve my numb ass. Honestly, invest in some better seats and your customers would be so much happier. Friendly staff at the bar, and a great show - good sound.

Yelp
As a Yelper, there are few harder challenges than summing up Oran Mor as a whole. An all encompassing entertainment venue, you could easily write an essay covering its bars, its theatre, its gig venue, its beer garden, its exterior, its strangely-alluring new halo on the spire, its controversy, its restaurants, its wedding halls and the fact that it is vastly different bar depending on what day of the week you go and what time you arrive. So rather than do all that it's pleasing to see a very well deserved separate section dedicated to the venue's fantastic Sunday afternoon jazz sessions. Fast becoming one of the area's "must-do" activities, the three hour show (4-7pm) features house band, the Michael Deans Quintent, whose mixing of contemporary and classic styles attracts an audience of all ages and both seasoned jazz enthusiasts (those sporting goatees) and newcomers (non-goatees). Nice. Furthermore, the atmosphere is relaxed and perfect for a Sunday afternoon, particularly in winter when the red fairy lights and roaring fire create a homely atmosphere. Great.

Yelp
I have a confession to make; before I actually went into Oran Mor I spent months thinking that it was just another one of those pubs that you tend to find in converted churches. I wasn't expecting to find a bar, restaurant and venue with so much culture and character, but, erm, I did. Inside, Oran Mor is a bit of a maze. A very beautiful and attractive maze I might add. It's a bit of an everything-in-one type of place, as they have a bar area, a fancy restaurant, a nightclub, a live music venue and a formal events area all in one. The architecture in this place is amazing, and it's not let down by the decor or the ethos of the place. The staff and the service are great too, so Oran Mor is a really great all-rounder. You'll find a number of special events at this place. They have regular "play and a pint" nights which allow local playwrights to showcase their talents to a pie-eating audience. They also host a monthly wedding show and various photo shoots. I also happen to know that later in the year they will be playing host to the National Student Television Awards. Is there anything that this place can't do? Answers on a post card please!

Yelp
We only decided to continue drinking here because it was the only place we could think of that was still open at 2AM. It was PACKED with Uni students and the floors were so covered in spilled booze that my shoes literally stuck to the floor. Getting a drink is really hard and finding a decent bathroom is even more difficult. Every time one of us went to the bathroom it reeked of fresh vomit - gross! The staff seemed really overwhelmed so cleaning the bathrooms was certainly not high on their priorities list. If you're in need of a late night spot to drink and your expecations are drastically low - this is your place. If you're a Uni student and looking to be drunk with your peers - this is your place. I can't say that I'd never go back but hopefully it's not a regular stop.

Yelp
After braving the rain for a few hours to experience the Electric Gardens across the road, we thought it would be an excellent idea to dry out and fill our bellies at the Oran Mor. Being from the Southside, we really haven't been to many West End bars, and this was my first time in the main bar of the Oran Mor and I had never before tried their food. Sodden and weather-beaten, we dragged ourselves in from the cold and headed to the food service area where we were greeted by the lovely Aussie waitress. Had a great conversation about how my brain switches off after a certain time and words come out wrong (I'm not the only one, yay!). Although our server was happy to bring our drinks orders, we're fussy about our liquor - well, sometimes - and they had a vast selection of whiskey and rum. Harry was off gazing in awe at it. The menu contained a great deal of comfort food, which was just what the occasion called for. Not content with a single dish, Harry and I decided to order one main and a couple of smaller plates to share so we could taste a few delectable dishes. We settled on the mussels in white wine sauce (a main which came with lovely warm bread), haggis balls and seasonal veg. The mussels were served in generous portion with delicious, creamy white wine and garlic sauce. With the warm bread, it was perfect comfort food for the dreich weather. The haggis balls came with a wholegrain mustard mayonnaise and were lovely and rich with just enough kick, The seasonal veg was actually summer veg, so it hadn't quite caught up with the season yet, but it was no less tasty. There was tenderstem broccoli, baby carrot and green beans lightly tossed in butter. All in, it was a warm and welcoming stop with friendly staff and tasty food. Definitely somewhere I'd visit again!

Yelp
I ate here during the day, and then came back for the pub that evening. The food was very good, I had the haggis Bonn bonns they were great. For my main I had the sausage and was not disappointed. We sat for trivia, which we won last place! As for the bar, it's great, busy, reasonable drinks, and friendly people and staff.

Yelp
Oran Mor's 100th review Over the years I've been to a few events held here and I must say that I'm not a fan of Oran Mor. This is one of the few places in the area that is open till 3am, at weekends this place is rather overcrowded and getting served at the bar feels like a lifetime. I was here last weekend and had an issue even though it was sorted out by the door staff it still remains a constant problem at this bar, pickpockets. I felt as if someone was trying to go through my pockets and when I checked for my phone and took it out, no sooner had I done this, the phone was grabbed out of my hands. This may be a good bar on weekdays, but at weekends you do need eyes at the back of your head.

Yelp
This is a pub located in an old church. The atmosphere is relaxed and the food is top notch. The Steak and Ale Pie and Fish and Chips were superb.

Yelp
I think i have a new west end bar to become a regular in! Popped in here for some noms after the electric gardens not quite knowing what to expect as ive heard many a story from here and their impressive display of whiskies. As you walk in your greeted by a security guard who directs you towards where you need to go and you enter the bar/restaurant area. We were seated by a lovely australian girl with plenty of banter and a really lovely nature. After perusing the menu we opted for seasonal vegetables, haggis balls with honey and mustard dip and steamed mussels in a white wine and garlic cream sauce. The food was delicious. The haggis balls had a nice deep flavour with a touch of spice, crispty on the outside and the dip wasnt too strong on the mustard which can often happen. The veg was delicious as well and consisted of tenderstem broccoli, lvoely whole carrots and gren beans tossed in butter but not saturdated. Then we come to the best part which was the mussels, they come in the shell so its a little messy but a nice touch is that they give you warm lemon water for your fingers. We got 4 bread rolls (2 white, 2 Brown/grained) and some butter. The mussels were well cooked, the sauce itself was delicious and well balanced. Id deinetely go here for food again. When asked for drink our server was happy to please but the choice is just too vast to be remembered so she suggested to get the best view we order from the bar but gave us the choice. I went for a mosey and my first expression was wow. so many whiskies with things i didnt even know existed like highland park loki and freya blend. This is coupled with the usual fare o fbeer, cider and some rums too. I went for a lovely little rum i believe was called diplomatico which was a nice wee surprise but it is first and foremost a whiskey bar. Great place id be happy to go to again!

Yelp
It's a church, it's a bar, it's a restaurant, it's an I don't know what...but it's pretty incredible. Let me just apologize for my friend who walked up to the bar and asked the tender "what scotch do you have"...it's his first day in Scotland.

Yelp
I really don't like Oran Mor. The place lacks any kind of charisma and attracts clientele who also lack charisma. I end up there more often than I would like to only because of the late license, I should really just go home instead.

Yelp
I routinely arrange events for a large group (60-80 people). Last year, we held it at Oran Mor. Initially I worked with an events manager who was helpful and accommodating and made it clear he wanted our business. He eventually left and everything deteriorated - I found the experience of dealing with Oran Mor difficult and somewhat unpleasant (we were obliged to prepay everything - then on the day it turned out to be a difficult matter to get receipts for three of our people who needed them. I'd pre-collected a 10% tip for the staff and the manager on the day snidely demanded when I planned on handing that over). Nevertheless, the team had fun (we spent about £4000, all told). This year when I contacted them, they'd decided to chance ridiculous terms. Upping the price of the menu from £25 to £37 and demanding a £500 surcharge for the room). Oran Mor is nice for a meal for a small group but don't bother booking a big event there - they aren't interested in making it a good experience for you and they don't want repeat business.

Yelp
This is one of the West End of Glasgow's established venues, formally a church. It has everything happening from just a drink at the bar, to a sit down meal, clubbing down the stairs, seeing a live band or a play with you pie and pint. The venue is also popular for weddings and various fairs. Little known fact, I have performed in the largest hall of Oran Mor, which was probably the main part of the church. I sang and danced at the Ministry of Burlesque presents High Tease, Battle of Burlesque featuring Immodesty Blaize. Oh yeah! Good times! There is also a beer garden, especially good when the sun and heat arrives in Glasgow for those few days a year in summer. The last time I was there was for a meal and it had been a long time since I had ate here. There was a group of fabulous Yelpers who going to embark on the Botanics to see all the pretty lights of the Electric Gardens across the road. So this was a handy place to kick off our night. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't too expensive as I know the drinks can be quite pricey. We had our meal in the bar area and I devoured a lovely mac and cheese with side salad. There is another part which is a restaurant and I expect that's where it's a little bit dearer. The only thing that puts me off is that it's always so busy. At the weekend it's mobbed so best to reserve seats if possible. It's not always my first choice of place for alcomaholic beverages as I know the bar is always heaving. This is definitely a place to go even for a gig or to see one the many plays with that cheeky pie and pint. You've got to go a least once to say you've been to the Oran Mor.

Yelp
Very friendly pub with friendly staff. been going here for a few years now, great to start of your night and also great to have a few before heading home if you have already been out eating/drinking. Looks beautiful from the outside, I love anything that lights up and looks sparkly. My boss is a regular as well, the play, pie and pint was his favourite.

Yelp
Solid experience. We went here to watch the Munster v Leinster rugby game but soon learned that they don't have Sky sports. That said I had lentil soup and chicken wings, both were tasty but the wings portion was measly. Soup was good. Packed crowd, felt very much like a place to watch the football mixed with weekend shoppers and oddly wedding parties. Downstairs is a theatre area I believe and they do sum great food and play deals. Exterior and structurally the interior is very impressive. It reminds me a lot of The Church in Dublin.

Yelp
I remember walking past this when it was a church, then not a church and then a restaurant and pub. The not-a-church stage was painful. It was a sad reminder of how fast things can deteriorate in this city. Just like the decaying King George V (KGV) docks that we used to drive past every morning as we came to work in the West End. When was it was being remade, I had big plans in my mind. What could you do with a place like this? Make it a fantastic venue as the city could be remade. When it opened, the exterior was still reminiscent of the glory age of Glasgow but the interior was just another bar. And it was dark. really dark. Maybe it was a failure of expectation - maybe I should not have hoped so much. When I go in the summertime, I sit outside. Enjoy the sunshine and watching the disgruntled BBC employees who now need to commute to the docks. This review is not about food or drinks - it is about a city that trys to rebuild itself and recover - and just seems to fall short.

Yelp
It's late. We're drunk. It's open. We're drunker. This is really how I should leave the review for this joint. For the sake of anyone who's not sure just what the hell all this means, I shall elaborate a tad. Now normally this is not my kinda place. Infact, normally anywhere around the Byres Road area (I'm looking at you Ashton Lane) is really not my cup of alcohol. The words overpriced, overpacked and overrated oft apply to said businesses. So, with a group of 'dang tourists' frequenting my patch and a drouth that required quenching past regular bar opening hours, we (me) were forced to enter the chasm of sweat, ironed shirts and fake tan that is Oran Mor. Beyond it being open and still selling booze, I really have nothing positive to say about the joint. Oh wait, maybe the fact that it's not a club does have some merit to it. Beyond that, it's just really (REALLY) not my kinda thang. That'll be all. Carry on, nothing to see here.

Yelp
Popped in for a pre-gig drink and a bite to eat. I've eaten brunches here but never dinner and wasn't really sure what to expect. Without anyone visibly managing the service, we took a seat and looked through the menu. It's pretty standard pub fare but that was just fine as we were both famished! We waited a few minutes and, as no-one had yet appeared I wandered over to the bar to order a couple of drinks and ask about ordering food... maybe it was one of those places where you order at the bar? Nope, the barman assured me he'd get someone over to take our order ASAP. When he did arrive, our order - gammon steak for me, haggis for Clare - was taken without a smile, he wasn't rude just somewhat lacking in the 'smile' department! Oh well. When it arrived I was a little underwhelmed. The gammon steak looked well grilled, with a fried egg on top , but dumped alongside were some pretty anaemic looking chips. Chunky cut with skins on they looked more boiled than fried. The haggis, neaps and tatties looked a little better, a thick whisky sauce and a generous helping of haggis but it too looked like someone just threw it on a place with little thought. Things started looking up when I took the first bite of the gammon steak, a succulent, juicy cut of meat with a wonderful chargrilled flavour, it was delicious. The chips weren't as bad as they looked either, but definitely needed some more frying time as they were a little on the greasy side. The haggis had a good peppery kick, and the whisky sauce was nicely balanced, hints of whisky rather than overpowering the rest of the dish. Taking into account the price (it was less than £15 for both dishes) it was pretty good. To improve I think they need to work on their service, we weren't the only people looking around and wondering how to order food , and the presentation of the food wasn't great. I'm happy with pub grub but at least make it look like you've put some care and attention into it? Oran Mor is a good pub, it's a lovely space, and with a few tweaks they could have the makings of a very good gastropub... given that Cail Bruich is in the same building (and possibly the same kitchen?) I wonder why our meal missed the mark the way it did.

Yelp
Oran Mor is beautiful. I think that has to be said first. The church has been beautifully redesigned into multiple venues for drinking and seeing shows. If you can manage it, find a person to let you into the event room upstairs. The ceiling has been painted by 'Lanark' author Alasdair Gray. It is still a work in progress, but dear lord is it amazing, and mark my words it is gonna be a major Glasgow attraction in the future. That said, as a younger person, the place runs a bit old. During the day it is nice, the whisky selection is good and separated nicely into regions. Also it can work as a place to go after Ashton Lane closes because you really want to keep drinking and can't be bothered to a) take a cab to town, or b) really really can't be bothered with Viper. But if you are under 40, know that the only people your age might just be the bar staff. On another note, 'A Play, A Pie, and A Pint,' which runs off and on throughout the year downstairs, is f-ing awesome! Alls ya'll should be supporting inexpensive arts like this, especially when they are so much fun. And dudes, pie and pint--nuff said.

Yelp
This is a popular and lively bar that I've been to quite often over the last four years. One of my go-to pubs in glasgow because it has a great selection of whisky. I have also been to a number of gigs in the Venue downstairs, which is a perfect size for a venue - not too small and not too large! It seems equally great for indie-rock gigs (The New Pornographers have been my highlight) and folk gigs (The Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson Band brought the house down in January 2013, I was in the front row!). It also hosts A Play, A Pie and a Pint at lunchtimes, where I once met Scottish makar Liz Lochhead! The bar upstairs is a long, huge room but has lots of nooks and crannies, and retains enough features of the church to give it character, whilst having been updated with lots of artsy things - including Alasdair Gray's famous murals. There are other paintings on the walls too, and quirky lighting here and there. Oran Mor offers both bar food, and has a Brasserie (which I haven't t tried) as well. Overall, this is a good pub on Byres road, better than anywhere on Ashton Lane. A good place for a night out, for pre-night-out drinks, to meet and catch up with friends, or to visit the venue downstairs.

Yelp
Ah, the Oran Mor. I have many a fond memory of the Oran Mor. When people ask "Where were you the night of London 2012 opening ceremony?" I can just be like "The Oran Mor!". You can understand why people love the Oran Mor. It doesn't matter where you're from, you can be assured you will have a nice evening in here. The reason I like it is because of the mixed crowd. Young and old flock here and it's a wonderful place for a date. Especially when you can have a nice wee walk through Kelvingrove park afterwards for a cheeky wee winch. Or is that just me? So if you're looking for somewhere to go with a beau, the Oran Mor is the place for you!

Yelp
Good service, good food (I think the empty plates we left says more than I could) and an awesome pub atmosphere. Would love to come back for a gig, but doubt my time here would allow for it. Would definitely come back for play, pint and a pie.

Yelp
Really fun place. Not a tremendous selection of beers but the food was decent. I have the mushroom burger. The mushroom was sort of small but the flavor was great and the sweet potato fries a tasty.
