Nisolo

This company has scammed its customers and is doing nothing to make it right. I completely understand that they have fallen into hard financial times, but they should have never offered a program that promised 10 pairs of shoes over five years for $500 if they weren’t going to make good on their promise. We only got two pairs of shoes before they temporarily paused the program for a year, and now we’ve been told the new ownership will not be honoring this program. We missed out on eight pairs of shoes — I would have never paid $250 a piece for the shoes we purchased. We have not been offered anything as consolation for this scam. I will never purchase shoes from Nisolo again because they clearly don’t care about their customers and don’t know how to run a business.

This company doesn’t keep its promises! I too trusted this “ethical” company to honor the five for five membership: $500 for one pair of shoes every six months for five years. Turns out, only one year in, they “paused” the problem with no notice. I find it hard to believe that they didn’t know they couldn’t or wouldn’t deliver on our deal when they took my money- which is the definition of a SCAM. The shoes are beautiful but very careful about buying with any expectation that they will keep their promises/guarantees. Don’t trust the promises that they are “ethical.” I am pretty sure they essentially stole $400 from me, which is truly crazy.

This company sells 5 for 5 memberships promising 10 pairs of shoes over 5 years at $500 flat. They have now paused it for indefinite amount of time, with little help from customer service. In the meantime they seem to be launching massive sale after sale in clear attempts to get what little cash back they can get in liquidating, likely to close before having to honor any of their promised promotions. Consider buying from any other place.

REALLY disappointed with how the brand has not stayed true to their roots and gone so so downhill over the last couple of years. I don’t know what is going on internally, but I know it isn’t good (check Glassdoor). The company started out small and with beautiful intentions. I remember saving up for my first pair probably 10 years ago—I still have them and got them resoled maybe 5 years ago. Seems like leadership potentially isn’t adapting well now to changes overall, but that’s just what I gather and I have no personal experience to be able to say that. The whole Five for Five delay is really horrible, especially since customers are powerless and signed off on this sort of thing being acceptable. I didn’t even realize the codes expired so I went into the shop to redeem what I thought would be two codes…the woman working told me to reach out via email and they could probably get me my code back. That was monthssss ago and I never got a response. So on top of not getting any additional codes, I missed out on one of the ones I actually might have been able to redeem! I think many of us never dreamed this sort of change would occur, and it sucks because we agreed to it in writing and have no legal right to anything other than compliance. So I just feel duped and stupid at this point. I thought I was making an “investment” basically, but really I just sunk a bunch of money into something that might get me nowhere (as a grad student, mind you :( ) I agree with another reviewer that it sucks they’re selling their shoes for so cheap now…might as well not have done Five for Five and just bought the shoes on sale now. I found it very strange that they disappeared from social media for a bit (this may have been a couple of years ago now). I thought the company went under then and I unfollowed back then. But to find out that they now are now blocking comments is actually so upsetting and really goes against what I thought this company stood for. My recommendations are to make a public acknowledgement and apology for whatever the heck is going on. Maybe find a new leader. Give us all the rest of our outstanding codes, and just be done with Five for Five. Get rid of all your storefronts and go back to focusing on customer service and online sales. I don’t know if everyone quit their job, but you won’t get an email back now, so try not to need anything. Just stay away for now, and hope that things return to how they were intended to be. I won’t give up yet, because I like the shoes and I love the business model. Hoping it all ends well.

Nisolo is not an ethical, sustainable shoe company. Like others, I was scammed by their Five for Five program. I paid $500 for 10 pairs of shoes. After redeeming 3 codes, Nisolo said they won’t fulfill the remaining pairs of shoes for a year, then they increased the fulfillment “pause” to a year and a half. I demanded a refund repeatedly, but they refuse to issue it. Notably, Nisolo doesn’t have a phone line. They will only interact via text or email. They often fail to reply to emails whatsoever, and as a customer, you have no recourse! Nisolo is an expensive fraud. They’re perpetuating false advertising and messaging regarding their five for five program. Don’t get scammed, too.

Updating this review... I returned the shoes for a refund. My wife had a credit from another return so I tried again with a different pair of boots and they were much nicer.... Original review - They never replied to the numerous customer support emails I sent about my order shipping in a timely manner and when the shoes did finally arrive, one of them was very scratched.

I ordered the d’Orsay Oxfords earlier this week in hopes they would arrive before my trip. When I saw they were not going to ship immediately I sent an email to Nisolo Support. Brittany replied and set the shoes to ship immediately with expedited shipping. They arrived yesterday and they are comfy and perfect for our 2 weeks in France! I will absolutely order from them again.

I love all of my Nisolo shoes! I have some of their boots, flats, sandals, and heels. The shoes last a long time although I do have a pair of the sandals that I eventually walked into ruins after several summers. But I love them so much I just bought another pair to replace them! Nisolo runs a great opportunity occasionally - the 5 for 5 club where you prepay for shoes and get credits over the next 5 years. Going to the showroom makes it so easy to redeem! I try on the different styles and sizes I think I might one, pick the one I want to use to redeem my code, come back in 6 months and do it all again! The people working at the showroom are always kind, knowledgeable, and helpful.

Company does not honor their commitments, specifically w.r.t the 5 for 5 membership. Shoes are fine but not THAT great...

I used to love Nisolo, what they stood for, and their products. Now they are a disappointment in just about all ways. I'm one of the unlucky ones who signed up for the 5 for 5 program, which alleged to provide a code every six months for 5 years entitling me to any product, free shipping. Their product quality is going downhill and they paused the codes without telling me (they allegedly sent a communication but I didn't get it). It's been well over a year since I was able to get anything, and now their products are significantly worse. They refuse to do refunds and seemingly are discounting everything. They do not stand behind their products, their loyal customer base, and must have serious cash flow issues. What a waste of a company, ironic given their mission centering around sustainability. 0 stars if I could.

Nisolo charged for membership that would give you a code to purchase two items a year. However, they halted this, with no update on when we can receive our next code/item or to get a refund. This has stared to feel like a scam.

I used to love nisolo shoes. I even signed up for their five for five membership thinking that I would get to continue to enjoy their products and share with my friends and family. however, after the first code, the codes would not come automatically and I had to keep emailing them to get my next code. I am now due for my fourth code and once again, I have to email them because they have horrible customer service and do not reply to their chat or send me my codes ahead of time . However, this time, not only do they ignore my email for two weeks, after my second email, they inform me that they no longer are offering the five or five codes for the remainder of the year. I asked for a refund and they will not provide one. It appears that this company is going downhill and I suspect that their five for five program was to scam us and get us to invest capital and they advertised it as a program. However, they probably already knew that they were not doing well and planned to not honor the codes when they initiated this program. The five for five program was just too good to be true, and really is giving high suspicion for a scam. as a compensation for not being able to honor the codes, they tried to offer me a 50% off code for a full priced purchase.. This is an even bigger scam, why would I spend more money for a full priced item when I have seven more codes to redeem for any item.

My shoes completely broke after about 20 wears and when I contacted Nisolo about a replacement pair, no one responded.

The company appears to be on a downward slope, including how they treat their customers. I joined the five for five program and after receiving 2 codes, I've been told that they are not issuing new codes. Total scam! They may issue more in 2025 but my guess is they will be out of business by then based on their poor customer service.

I paid for the 500 membership last year, but now the company is telling me they are changing membership rules, and won't be sending coupons until 2025. When I contacted, they said I would not be refunded any used coupons, but I was asking about the remaining coupons that have not been used.

Nisolo's customer service support appears to be a complete front. No one responds to their support email or text number. It doesn't really matter how good a product if a company cannot tackle simple customer issues.

On a 70 day trip across Provence, the Riviera, Italy, Greece, Portugal and Spain and loving my Nisolo sandals I bought for the trip! No break in time, comfortable, sturdy enough to navigate a lot of walking on varying terrain, and look great dressed down or up. So happy with my purchase.

Out of the three purchases over 8 years, the first pair of chukka boots looked nice, but didn't last long. The second purchase was to buy their updated version. I went in store and tried them on and expect to leave with a pair of shoes. Not the case! In paying in store, which I didn't know, I was actually placing an order to have the shoes shipped to me, which took almost 3 weeks to get, even though I'm in the same city. Flash forward to 2 weeks ago, I placed an order for my wife. After contacting them three times I have still not heard back from them. I received notifications that my support request were received, and I even one time a rep marked that she contacted me about my issue, but she didn't. I honestly wouldn't waste time fussing with these mediocre shoes from this low-grade company.

what a horrible experience! my daughter has a few pairs of Nisolo shoes and loves them so I purchased two pairs of shoes during the GMA steals and deals. one pair is fine, the other needs to be returned. already suspucious that we can't use the normal route for exchanges. I went to the website which states to contact support@nisolo.com for GMA returns. it has now been over a week. I have sent 3 emails, no response. I opened a contact form on their website, no response. I tried live chat- it is not chat, it is FAQs. I tried to phone numerous times and the call disconnects after their message plays. I tried to text, no response. I am beyond frustrated. I even went so far as to try and phone one of their stores and, you guessed it, no one answers, it is just a message where you leave your number and no one contacts you back. be sure you are going to be happy with your purchase before ordering because from the looks of it you are stuck with it!

this company couldnt have better customer service. Can't speak to the shoes per se, but I've been having some squeaky shoe problems, and Andrea from Nisolo has been so darn helpful to help me mend these under quarantine where I don't have a cobbler to step in. THANK YOU! you guys are so wonderful!

I purchased a pair of $200 chukkas from them that looked great at first, then cracked and warped to the point of being unwearable in four months. I wrote an honest review on their site with this picture included and had my review deleted both times. No wonder there's such a discrepancy between reviews here and on their site. Not ethical. Beware.

This is not a review of Nisolo's products, since I may never know since I ordered from them a week and a half ago and my shoes have never been shipped. I'd planned to wear a pair of the shoes to an event, so I tried contacting them. There is NO phone number for their customer service. You can text and email them, but they do not respond. I tried calling the number I texted, but only got a recording, with no option to leave a message or talk to someone. They say you can use their "chat" function on their website, but it isn't a chat, just a FAQ. I called their Nashville store to try to get help, and the woman who answered was very nice, but except for confirming that my order hadn't been shipped, she could only "ping" their customer "experience" department to ask them to contact me. She said they would contact me by the end of the day. They didn't, so I called her back. I asked her why they didn't have a customer service contact number and she said it was more efficient to use text or email. of course it's more "efficient" for them since they can simply ignore them. she did say she would tell them my request was "urgent". they finally sent me an email saying my shoes we being shipped, but after more days, they are simply saying "label created awaiting Fed Ex pickup"....so they still haven't been shipped. they might have good products (will I ever know?), but their service is horrible!!!

I joined Nisolo's 5 for 5 Club two years ago, and I wish I had not. The shoes require a lot of "wearing in", and are quite uncomfortable to begin with. My bigger complaint, though, has been the customer service. I once had to ship back a shoe that didn't fit me - they told me that the shoe had been "worn" and that I could therefore NOT return it. I had worn the shoes in my own home for ten minutes to decide if I wanted to return them. Emails and phone calls and bickering back and forth - very frustrating. My next issue was with a boot. Put on the boot using the tab at the back of the boot? Ripped the tab off. Wouldn't recommend Dari boot for this reason. After that came the fact that I've had to resole the heel on my clogs within the first few months - the glue came loose and the rubber heel fell off. My current issue is with the Oxfords. These are a pair that I love, along with their tennis shoes. I bought a Size 9 and it was quite small to begin with, but are now so stretched out that they fall off as I walk with them. I contacted Nisolo for help and they literally replied with "I'm sorry, that is so frustrating" and then had the nerve to suggest heel inserts... that would not fit in the shoe I referred to and I had already tried. It is one thing to make poor quality shoes and have people expect them to fall apart. It is another to market/advertise "quality" and then not stand by it. I do NOT recommend this brand.

I made an accidental purchase of a pair of $100 sandals and immediately emailed their customer service that this was a mistake and to cancel the order. No response. 12 hours later...I receive an email that the order has been shipped and "thank you" for the purchase. I have since responded and sent out an additional 3 emails repeating that this is not a real purchase and needs to be canceled and credited back to my account. Still no response (it's been 3 days). Company is a scam.

Wacky website where on cannot exchange shoes without committing to a higher priced item or take a loss. Ethical? PErhaps not so much to their customers. Know your size, know that the colors are not true and be prepared to make an unnecessary donation to the company.

Beautiful store. Beautiful products. Beautiful concept (everything is ethically made). Prices are about what you would expect for responsibly-made beautiful leather products, jewelry, and shoes/boots. It's definitely a little limited in size and variety of stock, but if it's your style, you're going to want everything. My coworker who introduced me to Nisolo buys just about everything there! Their sales are quite good, too!

I know shoes. I have also been buying shoes made in Peru for more than a decade because of their quality and the workmanship that goes into them. I have been to the same places where Nisolo shoes are made. This doesn't make me an expert but it should mean something. Having joined the Nisolo 5 for 5 program last year (receive ten pair of shoes in five years), I now own my first two pair of Nisolo shoes. And they have quickly become my favourites. They are well made, they form to the foot very well and they can be re-soled when they wear out. Admittedly, they are slightly more expensive than shoes mass-produced elsewhere but from the moment you open the box you can see the quality. Over the long run, I suspect that the better shoes will actually wind up being cheaper since they will wear longer and look better. I have also dealt with the Nisolo customer service in two occasions and they are excellent. Overall, a good buying experience and a very satisfied customer. Five stars.

Love this company and what they stand for....sustainable, quality, fair trade, and most of all love the shoes & bags . They are timeless and always make a statement...... plus have simple and classic jewelry. I love them and always get better w age. Great customer service too

I'm surprised to read comments from the Nisolo customer service in reviews back in May that their returns "We've since updated the return/exchange process so that you're able to have a smoother shopping experience" (Sarah C of Nisolo) I'm here to tell you this is NOT TRUE. There customer service rep is kind but the process is time consuming. I ordered a multiple pairs of shoes during their Black Friday event. One pair that was sent to me was the correct shoe but WRONG color. When I called to make the exchange for the correct color I was told by Nisolo rep- Ginger that the color is no longer in stock. After a long discussion, We came to an agreement that because I still wanted the shoe, but she could not let me know if/when they would be in stock that I would receive a gift card for the full amount of the shoe. ( I bought them at discount and should not have to pay the difference). However, if the shoe did not come back in stock I would have a year to make another purchase with the giftcard. There had to be several emails to come to this agreement but Ginger was patient, kind and accommodating. She made all the difference to keeping me as a loyal customer. Be warned, while the shoes are well made and minimalist dream, You probably want more than one pair.

These shows are beautifully designed and crafted. I have 3 pairs and they all are in my main rotation, two of them after 3 years. Their customer service is also next level. Gett yourself in some nisolos!

Bout me some huarache sandals after eyeing them for a couple months. They came in as expected but I didn't get a receipt for it. I used my amazon account to complete the purchase. I knew that I needed to break in the shoes since they were leather made but it's been the most uncomfortable experience. I'd rather go barefoot than wear these shoes out. They are not true to size and give blisters when breaking in. I will be exchanging for a bigger half size and hope that customer service is good quality. The shoes are narrow and I'd consider my feet narrow but still my feet hang out a bit on the side.

I bought a pair of Emilio Chukkas in November 2017. They looked and felt great. After three months the soles started to come unglued. I returned them for repairs, which took a week or so. The soles of the "repaired" boots began to separate again within two days. Nisolo customer service said that "glue coming a bit undone at the edge isn't a sign of a quality issue," which is absurd for $198 boots. Nisolo makes lovely shoes but their quality and customer service make them a terrible buy relative to competitors. I wish they better supported their products and customers.

Not sure why the reviews are so moderate. Each time I've gone to this store, I've experienced great customer service. I even came in close to closing the other day and offered to leave and come back the following day. She let me know it was fine, and even pulled a few styles for me to try on. I made another great last minute purchase, this time being the Ecuador Huarache Sandal in natural. My other go to shoes are still in great condition as well (Mariella Mule in black).

One of my favorite pair of flats was from Nisolo - the Mendez flat in black suede. They took a really long time to break in (I'm talking months!), but once they were broken in, they were my most comfortable shoes. They also went well with both jeans and skirts due to the very slight wedge. I was so sad when my parents' terrible chihuahua chewed one of them up, and the style was discontinued before I could order a new pair! I also own the Lori colorblock tote in caramel/slate, and it goes with everything and looks great. I've had it for several years now and always get compliments on it.

The designs are beautiful, the quality is crap. The Ecuador sandals fell apart after about a month, and for sandals that cost $118 that is pretty unacceptable. The Oxford Oliver shoes were very hard to break in and my toes are still bruised from it, once they were actually at a point I could wear them the soles were already worn to a point they would need to be repaired. My husbands Chukka boots from Nisolo are a lost cause, he tried multiple times to break them in-but they are still stiff and painful. The company doesn't offer anything really in the form of guarantees, so they are not obligated to replace or credit you anything. When purchasing shoes over the $100 mark I would recommend sticking to Nordstrom, Timberland, or another established company with decent quality control.

Beware of online buying from this location. "Fair Trade" in the social justice sense, but not in the business sense. I ordered a pair of sandals on sale for $88. They were not true to size so Nisolo agreed to exchange if I paid the return shipping. I agreed, but in order to speed things up i asked if I could buy a pair in the smaller size and have them shipped right away. I would simultaneously send back the pair that wouldn't fit. When Nisolo received the wrong size they would refund me. Nisolo agreed, but only if I paid the non-sale price of the new pair--$50 more! Their explanation was classic: "that would allow other customers to purchase the shoes at the discounted price". What?! Nisolo is not ready for e-commerce nor do they understand basic customer service...or how to put a size guide on a webpage.....

Still feeling frustrated by the low stock this company carries which makes being a 5 for 5 member difficult cause they are often out of my size which requires me to join a waitlist and since promotional material often sorts to spam via email I basically just have to keep coming to the site constantly to see if its available. As a result, I missed out on 2 of my codes but at least the company issued me a $50 credit for each unused code. Not thrilled but I think for a small company they are trying. Just wish they kept better stock so that I could avoid this issue. Also in hindsight maybe choosing 5 for 5 was not the best choice considering the limited styles available. However, the shoes are I would say 7.5/10 quality. The zipper broke off of my Dari boot pretty early on and got lost and I can't get it to zip without it so pretty much a waste of a pair on those ones. (I'll add a photo later if I can find it in my archives of mobile pics)

Such an amazing company with high-quality, beautiful products. Nisolo's styles are timeless and even the presentation of their packaging is lovely.

Buyer beware- Poor quality shoes and poor customer service. Make sure you read all the yelp reviews before purchasing. I returned these shoes on December 26th. They were received and signed for by JReynolds on December 31st. It is now Jan 27th and I have still not received a refund and not sure if I will (I have now filed a dispute with my bank). I called the company practically everyday for a week now. Frank said he's sending me a check through priority mail and I'll get it Monday. I called him back today after not receiving anything. They do a really good job branding and hiding their bad reviews, I didn't expect this. If you google "Nisolo" their bad reviews don't pop up on googles first page- not sure how they did that. After reading their yelp reviews I realized other people are having the same issues and Nisolo is deleting negative reviews on their website.

Great shoes, great company. Their production standards are incredible, (which is hard to find in most apparel brands), the shoes are very good looking, and the quality is unbeatable. Highly recommend swinging by their store.

I've ordered two pairs of shoes from them so far, and both experiences have been great. The first pair did not fit right, and the return process was super easy, thanks to their customer support team. The second pair was ordered through a 3rd party and was taking forever to ship, but when I emailed to ask, Nisolo Support responded and shipped them right away with expedited shipping. Can't say enough nice things about the service they have provided to date. 10/10 would recommend.

Bought two pairs of shoes from them - the James Oxford and the Ecuador. I can't say those pairs will be my go-to. The Oxford is too stiff (referring to both the leather material and the bottom sole) to wear even after 5/6 times wearing them out and the Ecuador is way too snug and provides zero arch support. Their product line is very elegant but I'm just dissapointed by how uncomfortable it is to wear. I don't understand how they come to garner so many positive reviews on their website

Nisolo has sleek, simple, chic styles. Their shoes are basically the shoes you're always looking for that other stores never have. I'm always looking for simple styles with not too many embellishments and good quality. Nisolo solves this problem with grace and ease. I have the smoking shoe in black for work and they are sooo comfortable and stylish. I always get compliments when I wear them. Don't let the neighborhood throw you off this place is shoe heaven!

Ordered my first pair online. Beautiful shoes - high quality and stylish. Unfortunately, too narrow for my feet. Went online to exchange for a black woven loafer that I thought had a better likelihood of stretching to fit. The return experience was dreadful, which is the reason for a 2-star review. Tried multiple times to exchange for other merchandise, but there is no capacity to enter the name of the item you want -- rather, you have to scroll, scroll, scroll to find it -- then once you select it, along with the size you want (8.5 in my case), the system defaults to a size 6 with no ability to change it. A lesson is frustration. I finally gave up and just elected to pay to return. I'm all for sustainability and fair trade, but a good customer experience is essential, too.

I have a pair of their boots and the zipper pulls came off within a week. The customer service person said they can't send me new pulls and I should see a cobbler. I expected to take them to get repaired, but I'd love it if they could have the matching zipper pulls. They wouldn't even let me buy them.

I own 4 pairs of Nisolo shoes and love them all. They take a while to break in but the quality of the leather and the workmanship makes them worth the wait. I prefer sturdy leather shoes because they last longer and look so much better over time. Look forward to seeing their new shoes every season.

I'm a Nisolo addict and I don't say this lightly. I own two pairs of their oxfords, two pairs of their wedge heels, two pairs of their sandals, two pairs of their ballet flats and a pair of chukka boots (for a whopping total of 9 pairs). I've gotten them at full price, as gifts and during sales. None of their products has ever been a disappointment (and most I like so much i get in two colors) and I'm happy to say that the only non-Nisolo shoes I wear these days are knee high boots in the winter time (if they made them, I would buy them) and gym trainers. The craftsmanship is top-notch, the style-factor timeless and the cause unarguably worth supporting.

Buyer be aware! I bought a leather tote. Although I love the shape and size, the bag is not weather treated. So, anytime it rains, it bleeds dark brown. Thank goodness I was not wearing a light colored shirt. It dyed my hands and dripped brown color all over my car. They do give you a card that recommends that you weather treat their products yourself. I did that (even though I think it would be a much better product if they just did that themselves) and it still bleeds brown when in contact with any moisture. So, I imagine all their products probably do. I also had ordered a bag they ran out of, even though the website said they still had it. Customer service was pretty nice, but was a little slow to resolve it and didn't offer me any kind of discount for their mistake. They suggested a higher priced bag, which was sort of annoying since they wouldn't price match or offer any discount.

I'm very sorry to have to echo the poor customer service reviews below. I also purchased the Ecuadors a half size down, at the recommendation of the website, and they do not stretch as promised. I've worn them for 7-8 full 12 hour workdays, and even put on socks and blasted them with a hairdryer in an attempt to stretch them more. At this point, they're unwearable for more than an hour at a time. The sole is also beginning to tear at the heel. Like the reviewer below, I spend $100+ on sandals expecting them to last. Customer service told me there is nothing they can do - not even a credit. I've been eyeing my first pair of Nisolos for a year, and was hoping to buy more, but it's too risky. Especially since they seem to have taken reviews off their site since I bought these a month ago? Doesn't bode well. So bummed.

used to like this company but they're shoes are too expensive given the quality. My oxford shoes wore down in less than 1 year. They literally have holes in the bottom. I have NEVER had that happen before and when I contacted the company they said that is to be expected as part of wear and tear. Last time I checked $125 leather shoes should last more than 1 year. give me a break!

WARNING: MISLEADING VISION I have spent over $500 in Nisolo in less than a year and do not feel valued as a customer as their vision says "valuing the producer and the planet just as much as the customer." I do not have a high discretionary income, but when I choose to purchase products chose to pay a premium and support Nisolo because I believe in the mission, vision, and values of the company. But after I realized a pair of shoes didn't fit correctly after 1 wear, Customer Experience did not help me in addressing the problem even after I noted that I want to spend my money there, I do want to continue supporting the brand, and all I got was (paraphrased): we're sorry you feel that way, there's nothing we can do, and we are ok to lose you as customer. Now how does this situation align with their vision of "valuing the customer" just as much as the producer and planet? I'm seriously disappointed by an "impact" driven brand and any brand in general that does not value the customer, in a time when customer service/experience/care is key. So I would advise you before you invest a lot of money in this company that they will not take care of you when it comes down to it. They don't care about their triple bottom line, they only care about their bottom line.
