Musée de l'Hospice Comtesse

Beautiful build on g where you can feel the souls of the nuns. Take at least one hour and don’t miss the roof of the chapel. Beautiful!

Initially establish and built in 1236 under the Countess of Flanders, it was a hospice for centuries and was run by the Augustinian Sisters for 500 years. In more recent times, soldiers from the French Revolution were treated here. Now a museum of the history and decorative arts of Lille housing furniture, Flemish paintings, carved wood, ceramics, goldwork and tapestries. In town center and definitely worth a visit.

A great little location to visit, just off the busy streets in the Old Town of Lille. Thoroughly enjoyed exploring the building and the general history of Lille in the upstairs space. Quiet and easy to navigate. Pity that many times the additional information boards were missing where someone had clearly not returned them, so often texts only in French. Also a little confusing when you first enter as there's no general introduction so took a little while to really understand what the context of the building was.

Wonderful building and gallery in Lille. The Jef Aérosol exhibition is awesome. Lot of information about his life and works. The placing of the works and lighting are breathtaking! A must visit in Lille. Last part of all the figures is so nice as well.

Probably not a typical museum that I would visit but I saw the poster for the Philip Hollevout exhibition that was running and it intrigued me so we went in. Entrance was only €3 each. I really liked the balance of the art installations alongside the historical context of the museum and found that it made it fun, quirky and enjoyable to discover as you go through the rooms. It wasn’t very busy so it was very relaxed place to wander round.

A different type of museum but nevertheless a cool place to visit if you want to learn a bit more about Lille’s hidden history

If you are after a very alternative and different museum, this may be one option - simply put, this sued to be a hospital but the previous building and structure has been transformed to now house an art gallery or museum. The different angle alone may be worth the visit and a quick snap of the camera. In terms of what is on display however, this was less impressive (when compared against other museums in and around Lille). Relatively easy to locate on the map and not in the most inconvenient of places, even if this do not fancy this after a quick peek, there is very little to lose.
