"Your Order: The smashburger ($8), but also the cheeseburger ($13), for comparison’s sake. If you dream of special sauce, you should go to Mighties. The casual spot in The Market Line is from the teams behind Wildair and Ends Meat, and serves a variety of smashburger that is so smashed, and so crispy, that it hangs lazily off the sides of its bun, as if it knows the importance of that first, bunless, meaty bite. They also do regular cheeseburgers topped with lettuce, onions, tomato, something called “the mightiest sauce”, and some very delicious pickles. This is the place to get one of each, and then decide once and for all whether you’re more of a burger person, or smashburger person. " - Willa Moore, Neha Talreja, Will Hartman

"A collab between the teams behind Wildair and Ends Meat, Mighties’ burgers are outrageously beefy in all the right ways. There are a few different varieties to choose from at this counter-service spot, but you should go with the double-patty Mighties burger with chopped onions, special sauce, and cheese to best appreciate the excellent quality of the meat. There aren’t too many toppings to distract from the big, charred disks of beef, which come cooked a perfect medium. Despite being run by people behind some of our favorite restaurants in NYC, Mighties is never too busy—which means you can stop by on a whim, grab a burger and crispy fries, and set up shop next door at The Grand Delancey to wash everything down with a beer." - Carlo Mantuano

"Though diminutive in size, Mighties in the Market Line food hall, under Essex Market, comes from chefs Jeremiah Stone and Fabián von Hauske Valtierra, who run the restaurants Contra and Wildair. Its connection with the Ends Meat butcher counter a few steps away guarantees the freshest beef. The little Mighties burger consists of a skinny patty, or two, with onions, pickles, cheddar cheese, and a burger sauce that tastes like the one at McDonald’s, across the street." - Luke Fortney, Robert Sietsema

Google
This place is located at the lower level of Essex Market. Awesome burger. Unique Hotdog. I'd recommend the smash burger over the cheeseburger. Top ingredients. Every mixes well together. The pickles are awesome!!!! Definitely one of the best smash burgers in the city. If you are into saucy burgers, this is not it. If you want a regular burger this is it! Great customer service. Competitive prices. Plenty of seats. Street and garage parking only. Mass transit (J&F train ) around the corner. Definitely worth a drive..

Stopped here while visiting the Market Line and will definitely be back. The person working the grill was really nice and the food was great. I ordered the mighty dog which is a beef and pork blend hot dog, topped with onions prepared THREE different ways: raw, carmelized, and frizzled and then topped with their Mighties sauce. I was NOT expecting it to be as good as it was…it was still extremely juicy with the right amount of salt. A ton of flavor with the softest buns.

Chris Quartly

Google
Excellent burger (if being the pickiest I could think of, a touch more salt wouldn't hurt), the correct amount of pickles, which is to say a lot. I don't usually care for raw onion with my burger but it gives a good textural component to the cheeseburger. The structural integrity of the hot dog bun gave way mid-eat but otherwise also an outstanding got dog.

Google
Incredible flavor on the dry aged burger. My favorite I’ve had in NYC, bar none. A MUST for any burger connoisseur. The friendly service, and clean atmosphere is beyond satisfying. I will be back so soon, but the dry aged is only available on Friday-Sunday, so keep that in mind if you’re making the pilgrimage. Worth noting it’s connected to the Ends Meat shop also located in Essex Market. Best Burger around!

Google
The staff (the guy with tatoo and beaver) was not friendly when we order! He made me think like we bothered his work behind the wall because we came to buy burger. 😅 Burger was fresh and patty really cook well, i love the smoky of beef. But we didn't feel any onion in Lil double burger, pickle just right and i love it! Will comeback for another burger. Hope next time staff more friendly.

Google
I ordered the Mighties burger and it was chonky and delicious. Btw they will make it medium well by default so if you’re used to have it cooked done like me you have to request it beforehand. The fries are too salty for my taste. The staff were amazing!

Google
Just delicious! We ordered the mighty dog and it came with delicious caramelized and fried onions. To drink, a Harmony Springs sofa. Everything was just great.

Google
I was not impressed! Had high hopes secondary to the infatuation list. You could make a better burger at home l. It was over cooked and tasteless. The only good thing was the martins potato roll that went I toasted. Save your money and go to McDonalds I have no idea why this place has so much hype

Yelp
The food is delicious. And the people are really nice. The service is quick and the ambiance was quite relaxing.

Jillian B.

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick bite since I was in the area for a comedy show - the dry aged burger was solid, and the lil mighty burger (double) also good. Loved that they used Martin's potato rolls. Service was okay - not the nicest, but was freshly prepared fairly quickly.

Lorraine S.

Yelp
Had a mighty dog and fries. The hot dog was delicious , a quality hot dog link , with a soft bun and the onions , shallots and mighty sauce was wonderful but too much onions! Next time , I'll ask them to go very light on them. Fries were fresh. Service was friendly.

Joseph T.

Yelp
I had the dry aged burger. Decent sear on the burger. Definitely pickle forward. Slightly juicy and savory forward.

Anna M.

Yelp
Not many selections on the menu, pretty standard. I got the cheeseburger mighties style and it seems like the mighties style doesn't come with tomato and pickles only onions and mighties sauce.

Kelvin M.

Yelp
Thank god it Closed cause it was Disgusting! Worst burger I've ever had . Didn't even finish it

Mike C.

Yelp
Jeremiah and Fabian of People's Wine right next to here and Wildair and Contra just opened this burger stand with a new contender for best burger in NYC. Yes it's that good, go get both the Double Cheeseburger and The Mighties burger and of course from fries. It's all amazing.

Dayo E.

Yelp
A really good smashed burger in a really nice location. Very nice staff. Also got a hot dog which was okay. Will definitely stop by if I'm in the area again

Heather W.

Yelp
Tasty fresh cheeseburger at Essex market! Order and eat at counter instead of at the beer place, since you will get it cold..

Shawn H.

Yelp
This was great. First visit, we each got cheeseburgers, and they're just really excellent fast casual burgers. More my wife's thing than mine, if I'm being honest, and she absolutely loved it. The fries were excellent as well.

Sandra G.

Yelp
The burgers were very good!!!! We also purchased the hotdog and split it in half because we are greedy! the service was quick and efficient. There's high chairs to sit at while you wait for your order. Next time i will try the celery soda they had on display! The area is small since there's other close restaurants nearby.

Samantha S.

Yelp
I really wanted this to be good, but it tasted a bit off. This was a couple months ago, mind you, so I left this review in drafts and am just getting back to it now, however I distinctly remember the unpleasant imbalance of flavors in the hamburger patty, which led the whole thing to just taste of onion. I couldn't finish eating it and chucked it in a bin, and this is coming from a person who loves hamburgers and is not really picky when it comes to them.

meron R.

Yelp
Mighties makes a killer flat top burger. These aren't smash pattys, what they are excellent burgers w a great crust. They use beef locally sourced from the butcher in the same mkt (ends meat). Had the Mighties burger and was fortunate to get the last dry aged burger patty. The Mighties is two pattys w cheese special sauce and onions. The dry aged burger had pickles lettuce tomato onion. Mighties also makes their own fries (didn't get but saw them ). Anyhow def go try them for yourself. FYI dry aged burger only available Friday and Saturday.

Tsvika K.

Yelp
Finally I got to eat this mighty burger! And I guess that third time (finally got them open) the charm ....work. EXCELLENT! Pure Excellency! The patties are at high grade and not over cooked ,the extras are fresh and delicious. Great buns that can hold the juicy meat and all around fantastic burger . The fries , the way I like it , not too oily , sliced right And enough to compliment the main star . Definitely , in the very fun competitive market of Quality burgers Mighties are up there.

Yelp
Pricey. $25.96 for Mighties Burger & french fries. According to the website all beef is 100% grass fed so that would help justify the cost somewhat. Place is located at basement level of Essex Market. I thought the Mighties burger would be more substantial and amazing than the Cheeseburger. Website lists Mighties as two 5oz beef patties with cheese and chopped onions. Yet website states all burgers come with 5 oz grass-fed beef patty, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and Mighties sauce. Should update to avoid confusion. I only got beef, cheese, and a lot of onions on mine. I wouldn't recommend Mighties burger if you have to talk to someone unmasked. I wish to be mightie and I became mightie with onion breath It also felt severely lacking without lettuce, tomato, and pickles (or relish -which I enjoy) to balance it out. Overall the burger was ok the meat tasted slightly better. Fries were good-as expected. I mixed the ketchup and mayo to dip the fries in. But why was I paying more than a cheeseburger and getting a meh burger experience ? Looking back I should've asked to confirm what would be in the burger. At the time I was ordering in person -the ingredients weren't clearly listed on the in-person menu. I also felt like me asking for medium rare was interpreted as offensive so maybe I forgot to inquire further. I would go here for the convenience and grass-fed burger, but I feel like I'm getting more value elsewhere. Maybe I'll come back and try the cheeseburger and have better things to say... Tempted to leave 2 stars but +1 bc although there was some tension I felt like the people were friendly and might mean well overall. Anyway it's exciting to see new businesses.

Yelp
Mighties Good! Excellent hamburgers and hotdogs. Flavorful, filling and tasty. I highly recommend taking a trip to Essex Market and giving it a try.

Cynthia K.

Yelp
Got sick after eating :( Fries were good though. But def got stomach sick afterwards.

Vivian Y.

Yelp
I'll start with the good. Their ingredients are good, very good. The beef is of high quality and when done well it is very tasty. The fries are twice or thrice cooked? Crunchy on the outside and soft, fluffy on the inside. Now the bad, this place is very inconsistency. Depending which cook you get and what mood they are in, the burger might be cold with the meat not fully cooked through. Or the portion is too small or the meal is not seasoned enough. I really like this place and it think it deserves to be hyped but until they figure out their operation this will remain just average.

Yelp
Cute serving of hand cut fries in a cone of paper. These were much too short and a bit dry and over fried, feeling like the bits you find at the bottom of a bag. The juicy burger hit the spot and was a balm for my hangover, melting down to coat my insides and bring me back to life, but these little fries woke me from my daze with their little sharp shapes. I noticed from the other photos that the fries appear to change a bit so am excited to give Mighties the benefit of the doubt and return in a more cognizant state to try their fries again!

Terri C.

Yelp
Giving it 4.75 stars actually. This is in a great neighborhood, and located inside the lower level of Essex Market. (luv luv the awesome Essex Market!) If patrons take the staircases, you would have to really walk around to be able to spot this storefront. This is why I am giving it more stars for being in a pretty tough location, it is not obvious to find. Service is excellent, can't ask for more. The wait time for a burger can be lengthy...and they will call your name when it is ready. Ok if you are standing around, but if there are no nearby seats and is situated far far away, that name calling will be sent to the abyss. As a result, many just rather wait around. So that means crowding the ice store across the way...so you just have to really find a good standing area that is not taken, to avoid the traffic/crowds. (ah.. yes, covid is still around). So just be aware and safe, at least for now. As of the time of this review, masks are mandated while indoors (hey, why not, for safety's sake.) For the fries, including the potato skin, fried to perfection, and that is fine. Great portion for $4. For the burger, tried the dry-aged and it was thick. The only thing lacking is the taste, which is surprising. The taste was in the cheese and accompanying onions/peppers. The flavor standards is because of how Shake Shack and many of the burger joints have excelled in their flavor departments just on the patty alone. Interesting, right! So with this comment, hope there will be improvement down the line. It is not to a point where I won't be back, so it is still a positive and constructive review that I am giving. Prices reflects the location and Essex Market points. Dinner times - there are crowds, so kudos to those who support all local businesses inside the Market and the surrounding areas. Great pre-movie snack place or post-movie dinner spot.

Emme M.

Yelp
Ordered burger, mighty dog and fried while grabbing a beer at The Grand Delancey. Loved the 5 oz patty and bun ... we thought the homemade pickle was a little too half-sour, and funky. But definitely didn't take away from how delicious the burger was. Hot dog to bun ratio was impeccable-- reminds me of the hot dogs in Copenhagen. Fries were a little soggy but tasted good nonetheless.

Joan K.

Yelp
I got a burger to go and it is literally raw, will spare u all the pictures I trusted u nighties

Monica L.

Yelp
Small little shop located inside the Essex Market food court. They only really have a few options... Tried the cheeseburger and the ingredients tasted fresh, burger tasted good but not worth $14. Nothing about the burger really stood out and made it exceptional. Probably wouldn't come back.

Jenny L.

Yelp
Mighties is housed in the Essex market. I found the service to be excellent- the person was very informative and thorough when reviewing the options. I found it to be VERY similar to a shake shack burger in terms of size, potato bun, packaging, but a little more on the dryer side and almost 3X the price. At shake shack for a basic cheeseburger, it's probably $4-$5, here it was $13-$14. I enjoyed the size of the cut up onions, tomatoes, lettuce and their signature sauce. I guess the main difference is the beef patty at mighties is grass-fed versus no hormones injected at shake shacks but it's not enough for me to switch over here, based on the price. it's closer to 3.5 stars for me but I'll round up.

Kerry Y.

Yelp
Burger was decent... however they seemed very stingy about giving bags for takeout orders

Anna T.

Yelp
Nice burger but not friendly staff, i order when they not busy and th staff comeback after hide somewhere longtime! But his face like i just stop him from some importand thing!

Che F.

Yelp
I got the little mightie with extra pickle. It was the perfect size for me. Attentive, fast service and the burger was great. I highly recommend.

Paul E.

Yelp
Had the Mighties Burger, Mighties Dog, and fries. Everything was perfect and I'll be dreaming of this burger for a long time.

Joshua J.

Yelp
I ate here about a week ago . The burger was top notch , super fresh , and flavorful . The staff was also very excellent

Joseph V.

Yelp
Close your eyes and Imagine a world where the perfect burger exists....now open them and run to the Essex street market because the time is now and the place is mighties. We went on opening night, it wasn't too busy so we got to chat with the proprietors who were very friendly and helpful. The burgers; definitely some dry aged, grass fed, beef that is seasoned to perfection sitting on a toasted Martin's roll with all the fixings. We had the mighties and standard, both excellent. The fries could have been crisper, but they had good flavor and I'm sure they are still tweaking everything. If I lived within an hour of this place I'd be here all the time. Also you can get beer to go at the place next door to drink while you wait and eat.

Alex Z.

Yelp
Overall, a very well crafted burger. They get all their ingredients from the other vendors in the market space. The meat comes from the Ends Meat butcher across the way. Meat was slightly under seasoned and filled with too many condiments. Good quality beef doesn't need a ton of extras.

Crystal K.

Yelp
Not even exaggerating here. One of the best burgers and fries I've ever had. So damn good. Im actually mad I've walked past this place for so long. My new favorite burger spot!

Claire R.

Yelp
One of the best burgers I've ever had! Incredible meat quality provided by the really knowledgeable whole animal butcher in the same market. Also loved their fries, hand cut with the perfect balance of crispy. Highly recommend!

Zeki K.

Yelp
One of the best burgers in NYC. Definitely the best place to eat in Essex market. The staff were super friendly and gave me a great recommendation

Marc Z.

Yelp
Sorry I didn't take a pic of my burger because what they post on Instagram looks nothing like what serve. Yes, the grilled burger tasted good but it's really a $7.00 burger with a $4.00 surcharge. There was unripe tomato, barely a dash of their mightie dressing and no sign of the onions that were supposed to be there. If you want an overprice burger and you're in Essex market go, but there are better places.
