On the Grid : Mana Food Bar

"This trendy, intimate vegetarian spot is so good, you won't even realize you're not eating meat (if you're the meat eating type). The hip, dimly lit environment sets the stage for creatively prepared items, like brown rice and mushroom sliders with spicy mayo (my favorite), or baby kale and asian pear salad. They also have special vegan & gluten free menus if that's your thing. Vegetarian or not, this is a must try spot!" - Serafini Creative

Mana Food Bar, Wicker Park’s vegetarian paradise, is closing to make room for a new restaurant - Eater Chicago

"After a decade in Wicker Park, one of Chicago’s premier vegetarian restaurants, Mana Food Bar, is closing in mid-September. Ownership plans to open a new restaurant in the space. Mana was a sleek and narrow restaurant where customers feasted on vegetarian Korean sliders and cold noodles." - Ashok Selvam

An excellent find in terms of food and ambience. They have quite a lot of warm and cold small plates. Good collection of drinks, as well as desserts. Although the space is pretty small, and accommodates a small crowd, the food is excellent. The service is good, and fast. Highly recommended to reserve a table since the wait can be long, especially for large groups. The baked goat cheese, mushroom saute and gnocchi are highly recommended. The devil's backbone is a fun spicy drink to try, for those who like serrano peppers.

Everything here was FANTASTIC. Amazing vegan options. The staff was also extremely knowledgeable and friendly and made the experience fun and lighthearted. The atmosphere is also great -- very small and intimate but not quiet and awkward at all. Great for conversation with friends or a date.

We've gone before and after renovations in winter, spring, summer and fall. Nice to sit outside during the warmer months otherwise it's a quaint little place with a bar and just a few tables. Their Chicago Restaurant Week dinner menu for $33 offered five courses including vegetarian and vegan options (and they've extended it)! Their salads are fantastic and we love their sesame noodles and dumplings!

Meat-free but delicious none the less, I was in a party of six so we ended up sampling most of the food menu and everything was great. It is a bit pricey but alcohol does drive the price up. Personally, the Mana Sliders were my favorite

Fantastic staff, the food was vegetarian and delicious. Very filling. Noise levels made it a bit hard to hear but I was enjoying my food too much to listen anyways.

Five years ago, I would have rated this restaurant 5 stars. The food was delicious, the ambience was great, and the staff were very attentive. In the 5 years since I first visited, I have noticed that I enjoyed fewer and fewer items on the menu. I recently visited this past weekend, and I was only really enthusiastic about the mushroom sliders, which have been consistently great. It seems that Mana has removed a lot of the menu items that were exceptional. The ambience and service are still great, and the ample seating (with outdoor patio) is definitely a plus.

Mana is great on so many different levels. The seating area outside is perfect for dinners in the summer. I've only had the slushy cocktail but I would definitely recommend it! The food was very good too, perhaps a slightly too salty at times but if anything's wrong they change your plate. I liked that they offer a small and large size for each dish. It allows you to share and try out a bit of everything. Finally the service was impeccable and very friendly! I would happily go back.

Mana is a great restaurant with a nice patio. I love that their menu has helpful notations for gluten-free and vegan. I highly recommend the spicy tofu, their homemade pickles, and their juices. Really, I've enjoyed everything I've had here (been multiple times). At times their host stand and wait staff can be a bit short on courtesy when it comes to seating as Mana is almost always packed. Also, I wish they were open earlier in the day to enjoy the patio.
