Babkas, croissants, and eclairs, plus fresh breads

"There's something beautifully simple about a perfect cream puff. Mamiche in the 10th arrondissement in Paris does them like nowhere else—the vanilla is just sublime and at one euro each, they're a steal." - Tina Meyer
"Join the omnipresent line that wraps around the corner at this SoPi bakery, and anticipate the show: Behind the glass windows tumble an array of shiny brioche buns, chocolate-scented babka, and pillowy croissant clouds big enough you’ll need two hands to hold them, and rich enough that they’ll leave your fingers as shiny as the gilded statues on Pont Alexandre III. You’re here for the croissant but don’t skip the cinnamon roll. It's one of the only ones in Paris worthy of the name, and so aromatic it practically has cartoon aroma trails. You’ll also find them all at Mamiche’s 10th arrondissement location steps from the covered Saint-Martin market." - emily monaco
"This women-run boulangerie with locations in the 9th and 10th arrondissements may not provide the Art Deco atmosphere you want for your grid, but their bread and pastries are some of the best in town—especially the babka and cinnamon bun, which other more traditional institutions don’t often make. Go after breakfast but before lunch (around 10:30am is good) and grab a turkey sandwich on a brioche bun and at least one of the €1 cream-stuffed choux before heading to the canal to chow down. And yes, the line is worth it." - sara lieberman, emily monaco

"Mamiche is among a string of new-school bakeries opening up in Paris that make the art of patisserie and viennoiserie more approachable. Opened by Cécile Khayat and Victoria Effantin, the shop offers a menu that’s more like an American bakery with French influence. (Or is it a French bakery with American influence?) Babkas sit next to eclairs, which cozy up beside beignets and palmiers. While Mamiche is technically a boulangerie, it’s one of the rare bakeries that does both ends of the French baked good spectrum well. Located in the 10th arrondissement." - Dayna Evans

"You’ll likely encounter a line when visiting the original outpost of Cécile Khayat and Victoria Effantin’s wildly popular Mamiche bakery, but the wait is worth it. Using natural leaven, the duo produce excellent breads, from the hearty pain de campagne to the lightweight pain de mie, as well as a traditional miche. Don’t miss the babkas and viennoiserie, too. You can’t go wrong with any of it. Located in the 9th arrondissement. Dayna Evans" - Dayna Evans
