On the Grid : Lords of the North

"Lords of the North are at the top of the game when it comes to providing the cleanest, tightest cuts around! The shop itself is a beauty and has such an inviting and friendly vibe to it. It’s the kind of place you walk into and just know you’re going to get a quality service. The vintage Belmont barber chairs are rad, as is ‘Biggie’ the shop pup who watches over the crew from his leather chair in the window. Photography - Peter Tarasiuk" - Sherwood Gutterz

Thought I'd give this place a try after reading all the positive reviews. What a mistake. I should have walked out when the so-called barber said "what do you need done?...your beard looks great already...its got a great shape" My response was, yeah, in don't want much taken off, just a little tidy up, mainly my side burns as they are getting a little thick. She took so much off, completely altered the shape, ruined my moustache abs made it completely uneven. I have a wedding in less than 2 weeks, thanks a real lot. If you don't know how to trim a beard you shouldn't be working in a barber shop. If I could give you less than a 1 star review I seriously would. Absolutely shocking experience. In response to your reply, I walked in, didn't have an appointment so I'm not surprised you can't find me in your system. Also, in regards to you addressing my concerns, I'm not sure if you realise this, but once you stuff someone's beard you can put it back. My moustache has been shortened so much in the corner of my mouth that it can't simply be rectified. I'll have to wait another couple of months until it grows back out again. I also never asked to have my moustache trimmed so high above my upper lip. I was growing out my beard, why the heck would you do such a short upper lip ? My mouth looks like a cars bum hole. Unfortunately when you provide a poor service you will receive bad reviews.

I have been going to Teresa for 1.5 years and I couldn’t be happier. People stop me in the street to tell me how much they love my hair. More often than not it’s the first thing people comment on when I match with them on dating apps. Highly recommend all barbers at Lords of the North especially Teresa.

Great colour, awesome cut that grows out so well every time. Always listens to what I’m looking for but makes it even better! Teresa is a legend!

Had an awesome experience here, probably one of the best barbers I've been to. I booked in with Lucky and in seconds he had my difficult hair dialled and a plan - no awkward "how do you want you hair cut" interrogation needed. The guy cut my hair with the kind of effortless ability you would expect from a real pro- all while holding excellent conversation. Lucky's a genius and a real one. Book in

Attended with my son and partner and both were very happy with the cuts they received from Teresa (hope I spelled that correctly) she took her time with our son and listens to what he wanted. Thank you so much.

A little while ago Theresa gave me my first ever short hair cut. I was nervous, but she guided me through the process wonderfully and I was absolutely in love with the result. That haircut was the perfect gateway to shorter hair styles and grew out looking amazing for months. Came back today for my second cut and wanted to go even shorter. She nailed it again, understanding my poorly phrased layman's term request. I love the result and I'll be back for sure. Can't recommend this place enough, music and vibes are on point.

Patrick at Lords of the North nailed my hair cut. Plus gave a massage and hot towel. They even offer you whiskey or beer while you have your hair cut. I will gladly pay the little bit extra for the lovely chat and nice vibes.

Coming here is my little personal reward. The vintage vibe is casual and elegant. The team here are all so friendly and approachable. The chatter never stops between them and their clients. On offer is always a beverage…a cold one or something hot. And no one does a beard like they do here. I drive 40 minutes to get here and would never look anywhere else. It’s simple to book. And you can call. I always try to book Catherine. She’s grouse. Always remembers what I like. I don’t know how to describe how I want my beard! But she remembers. I get the full treatment. The wash, the razor shave with the hot towels. Relaxing. Turntable has always got eclectic vinyl turning away. If you’ve never come here, any of the team is great! It’s my little treat to me.

Yelp
As with all things good you gotta wait a little while sometimes, and at Lords sometimes you do have to wait. But it's super well worth your time. It probably one of the premier barber shops in Melbourne and will continue on to be so. Very strong team, great ambiance, and located with plenty of parking to keep you out of trouble.

Yelp
Barber shop open on a Sunday?! Clean cuts and free beer. No board or bookings just roll up and take a seat.

Yelp
Downside: Very long waits with no call back system, no matter what time or day of the week you visit. unavoidable though, so bring solid reading material, or count the number of people before you and add 15 minutes for each name, until your name will be called. On average, it's usually 4-5 names ahead of yours, so usually its an average of an hour wait, then a 20-30 minute haircut. This place is always busy from right when they open, which usually see's a dozen -15 people waiting outside the shop each day, to any time of the day you may choose to visit. The weekends are super busy. It's almost too successful for it's own good. The barbers take time and care to do haircuts right however; attentive and attention to detail. Just waits that would test the patience of a saint.

Yelp
If you want to wait 1 1/2 hours to look like your on your way to a 90s school disco then this is the place to go.
