Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop in Maui is a cozy counter-serve gem known for its killer pies and hearty sandwiches, perfect for a casual bite.
"The menu at this counter-service spot with farmstand vibes is simple: sandwiches and pies. But that doesn’t mean your decisions will be easy. The sandwiches may sound ordinary, but are served between thick-cut, fresh bread—rye, wheat, or white—baked by Maui Bread Company, and are pared down perfectly so the essentials shine, like a reuben with corned beef and housemade sauerkraut and thousand island, or the sashimi-grade seared ahi tuna. Non-negotiable are two dessert pies: banana cream, equal parts custard and thick whipped cream, and the lime pie, a pudding cup lined with graham cracker crumbs. There’s pretty much always a line out the door—skip it by ordering online in advance." - Martha Cheng
"Blink and you’ll miss this eatery at the midway point of the seaside Honoapi‘ilani Highway. The kitchen puts extra consideration into American standards: Reuben sandwiches with house-made sauerkraut, hot dogs with poha berry mustard and pineapple chutney, and crisp salads topped with charred Brussels sprouts. But it’s the individual pies — flaky of crust and generous of filling — that make Leoda’s worth pulling off the road. It’s hard to pick a favorite among the flavors that evoke the island: coconut cream, chocolate macadamia nut, and Olowalu lime." - Shannon Wianecki, Bill Addison
"People line up for the fresh-from-the-oven baked goods and comforting plates of home-cooked food from Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop." - Travel + Leisure Editors
"Though Leoda's Kitchen and Pie Shop is cute enough, with its chalkboard pie menu and wooden tables, the ambience is not what draws perpetually long lines. Although you can get typical diner fare like burgers, pot pies, and pastrami sandwiches, everything's made with ingredients from nearby farms. But the real thing to order here is (duh) the pies, which rotate daily. Standouts: the blissfully tart Olowalu Lime Pie, the fluffy and decadent Coconut Cream Pie, and the Kiawe Bean Tart, made with Maui Meyer lemons and sweet, nutty kiawe flour." - Juliana Shallcross, Kris Fordham
"Cute café with mind-blowing pies The vibe Busy, unfussy pastry shop The crowd Locals and savvy tourists The food Nostalgic and soul-satisfying The service Warm and pleasant" - Kris Fordham
