The beer was fantastic! There is a large outdoor patio and a good amount of seating indoors. I didn't try the food. The sour beer slushies were phenomenal. I've never had anything like it. I think they brewed a sour beer with a few different fruits and then used those same fruits as a puree in the slushy mixture.

One of the oldest brewpubs in town, for better or worse. I've been here a few times, and had a wide variety of beers here, it varies wildly each time. Could be good, maybe even great. But the next time or next beer can be a trainwreck. My rule of thumb is to stick with simple styles, and I have less of a chance to get disappointed. Fortunately the place is fun, and staff usually really nice. They have board games, quiet nooks, and a nice terrace. Didn't try the food made in a little section outside. Maybe not the must stop place it used to be, but in the basse ville it's still on my list.

Great ambiance and beer selection. We were there on 30 Nov, and Audrey was amazing. Very hospitable, and walked us through the menu, which was only available in French. It was because of her that we returned the following evening. She was not working, but the staff that night was equally attentive.

Patio on a Sunny afternoon for some local beers from a micro brewery with some good friends. Huge Patio area with sun or shade. The smell of Hop in the air since all the beers they serves is brewed on site. Rotating Seasonal Beers by the glass or as samples at a reasonable price. Carousel Samplers is the neatest thing I seen and just like a merry go round. La Barberie may not be my pint of beer but still worth a visit for a laid back experience.

I'm not fortunate enough to visit Québec City as much as I'd like. As a result, I'm also not fortunate enough to visit La Barberie as much as I'd like. As a frequent visitor to micro/craft breweries in the States I have some pretty high expectations. La Barberie meets them all. Friendly, knowledgeable service. Practical beer focused servings. FANTASTIC brews. No, *REALY FANTASTIC!!* I tried their 8 beer flight this afternoon. Even the styles that I don't usually like, such as sours, had super high quality. All of the IPAs were amazing. I took 4 bottles back to my hotel room with all intentions of bringing them back home but, alas, I drank all 4. The product was simply too good, especially the Milk IPA. Never heard of it, a Québécoise beer? I could get into individual beer reviews but that probably ruins the fun. Everyone needs to experience their own. Congrats La Barberie, great job, you absolutely ROCK!

Fine selection of craft beers and a very nice atmosphere. Growlers available for purchase?.. Yes, yes they are. Do they accept U.S. credit cards? Yes, yes they do. No food though. They offer some pretzels and snacks but that's it. That would be my only complaint. They need to offer more food. Beers, very clean and fresh tasting.

The atmosphere was fantastic- quite the local brew pub feel. The terrace / patio seating was very relaxing- part of the little neighborhood just outside of the more touristy part of Old Quebec. The cream ale, red ale, and oatmeal stout were solid - straight up the middle hits for those categories. The raptor sours were more adventurous and fruity (and a little sweet, if that's your thing). Locals with their babies and dogs, cyclists stopping by for a pint... great place. Merci!

Easy walk from the old city, great beer, smart beautiful people who speak english and french, no reason to think twice. Just want to taste, the flights are incredibly generous (8 x 5 oz). The beer selection is very nice and varied. You will find something you like from stout to a light session IPA. Why wouldn't you come here. There isnt a good reason, just do it. 5 Star Brew Pub.

I don't live in Quebec City. If I did I would be a regular and I probably wouldn't post a review because I wouldn't want tourists coming in and ruining my favorite place. But I'm a tourist. And if you are like me and try to sample local beer wherever you are, then get your malt and hop lovin' ass to this place right now! I spend a lot of time in queens, NY and Chicago, IL: two places in the middle of a craft beer renaissance. La Barberie would hold its own in either place and would claim some tap handle victories.

Great patio to hang and drink. They have snacks for purchase and as a first timer here, I always ask for a flight. Here, they give you eight 5 Oz glasses! I wanted to try them all, but had to share.. I couldn't knock back that many this day.. haha. I liked about half of them, but that's normal since it ranges from light to dark and everyone has a preference on what type of beer they like. Luckily my uncle, whom I shared, also liked about half of them. We finished it off and asked for our stamp for our microbrewery tour map (ask them about this.. fun way to explore!). Service was cool too, they helped us when we asked.

This brewery was really great, casual, and off the beaten path. It was a short walk from our hotel, which was good because after we finished a tasting, that walk was more of a stumble. Most breweries serve a tasting that will give you a slight buzz, this place was generous with a spinning 8 beer carousel or as we were calling it, a "Beerzy Susan." I tried the Imperial Stout, bitter, Black IPA, West Coast Double IPA, Blonde, saison, and well I think that's everything...that explains the stumbling. The beer was fresh and interesting. Highly recommended, a very original place.

This place got its own page in my photo album for my trip to Quebec City - it is in an odd place, as in, you don't expect such an awesome brewery far from the touristy area of Vieux Quebec, but it turned out to be a convenient place for my boyfriend and I as we were coming back from the station. We had gone to Montreal for a day and we ended up walking from the station to here in the snow near Christmas time. The place was decorated nicely for Christmas of course, and I really liked everything they had put in the carousel sampler that day. From dark Russian Imperial Stout to IPA (even if I have had a million of IPAs back in California). They apparently do cool things like cheese and beer night, which we could not go back for because we were flying home. They would still give you decent customer service even if you did not speak French:) phew!

Solid beer, but not technically a real "brewpub", I would classify it as a microbrewery with a taproom. brewpub generally denotes the "pub" has food which this place does not. I would go back for a couple pints for sure, but would head to a different spot for lunch or dinner. That said, the beers I had were good, bartenders were friendly, and they had a good selection (IPAs to Chocolate Stouts...) If this place had a kitchen it could be 5 stars

I am a HUGE fan of this place. It is close enough to down town without being in one of the over crowded areas. This micro-brewery has one of the largest terrace available. They even have some of the best beers you can find in its area. They have an amazing concept on Tuesday nights where people may bring their vinyl records and they play them on the turntable. Great music, great sound, great beer, great vibe and great waiting staff... why not? They tend to change up their menu, which actually makes sense due to the fact they want to serve what is Fresh and they are a MICRO-brewer. On top of this logic, it is also a great way to have you try something different. One evening you'll find your favourite, abuse it and love it! The next time you go, you can't find it so you start all over again and find a new favourite. 1 downside, it tends to close too early on some nights, but then again I can understand.

I love this place! La Barberie is a little brew pub just below the walled portion of old Quebec city. They offer a very eclectic selection of brews in almost a cafe atmosphere decorated with art (likely for sale). It seems like a community spot. I love the mason jars with handles they fill up from the taps as take-away beer. They offer a tasting selection of the current beers in two sizes with such interesting and surprisingly tasty selections as Sangi-biere and Blonde Biologique. It is my neighborhood-brewpub reference point.

This place was amazing. They have really good fresh beers with a laid back friendly vibe to the place . My girlfriend and I were up from Boston for a long weekend and we stopped here our first and last night in town. The beers are SUPER fresh and the individual ingredients really stand out. They had a few really interesting brews as well as some very tasty standards. The cask stout was awesome, the pale ale was so goddamn good, probably my favorite. And the Scotch ale was wonderful. There was an ale that was made with champagne yeast that was very unique and tasty, as well as an equally unique ale that was made with honey. The staff was great. We sat at the bar both times and had different bartenders both times. They were all equally very friendly and spoke great English, sadly we don't speak French! :( The head brewmaster happened to be there on our first night and he and I had a great conversation about making beer and small craft breweries in the states and just how the landscape of craft beer is right now. Really nice guy! The clientele seemed to be a mix of locals and hipsters. Their beer was so good that on our way home we stopped at the Metro grocery store and bought some of their beers to bring home. I'm still dreaming of that pale ale. This is a MUST stop for beer lovers. I know I'll be stopping here anytime I'm in Quebec. They accept cash or credit.

Such a memorable patio! Very eager to serve waiters and bartenders. Not so down for the fellow patrons... quite smoky so choose your seat wisely! I slowly migrated.. and eventually made my way to the HAMMOCKS. I loved their sangria beer. And I think you can bring your own food! Next time I'm in Quebec City I'm stopping at a bakery and then coming straight here.

Impressive impressive impressive brew pub with a pretty wide list. Did a sampler of all of them. The best was the porter...eclectic beers but not offensive eclectic beers. No food here...beware of that. Interior and exterior patios are awesome. They even have a swing.

Delicious! The ambience is very cool and the beer delicious! I recommend. They are open at 12hs. So, you can start your lunch having a great beer.

Great out-of-the way brewpub in lower Quebec City. I thoroughly enjoyed my cassis/framboise beer. The outdoor area is really nice and large. It was worth the walk to find this brewery and rest our feet after a busy day exploring Quebec.

I parked in the garage for an afternoon meeting and had a couple hours to kill. When ainopened the car door the great smell of a wort hit me in the face. I followed my nose across the street and sampled a few stouts with some smoked mackeral. The only bad thing about the place is that I have to leave.

Let me preface this by saying I've been to a ton of breweries, both large and small, known and unknown and I've gotta say this gem in Quebec is among the best. Of the 8 beers they had on tap the day I went, all were extremely well done; even the styles I typically don't care for were (Hefeweizen) good. They have this "sangria beer" which is the best wine inspired beer I've had. It tops the 61 minute IPA and Black and Blue that Dogfish brews, which is tough to do. They had a sour on tap, love that. My favorite of the day? This lime framboise that was insanely refreshing. Aside from the beer, service was great and super friendly. Especially considering my French is absolutely non existent. Really great deck out back. Limited food options, eat before you go. $18 CAD for a flight of 8, 5 oz pours. Can't beat it. The world needs more local breweries like this.

Craft beers in a place that's away from the madding crowds. Feels like a local hangout and the patio is a good place to people watch as you drink down a flight. Great beer and ambiance.

I am in Quebec for a business trip and based on other reviews decided to come here. Great choice of beer on tap; the IPA I had was great. Service was a bit slow but the food by the traiteur found on location was really good and only for 8.50$! Chill place with plenty of space outside. If you are lucky you'll get the hammock spot ;)

Awesome bar, among my favorites in the city. They have a large choice of their excellent home brewed beer. They have a nice indoor seating area as well as a pretty cool patio for the summer time. For groups, there is a whole room you can rent. Also, you can bring your own food while having one of their awesome beer. --------------- Ce bar est génial, parmi mes préférés dans la ville de Québec. Ils ont un grand choix de leur excellentes bières maison. Ils ont un grand espace intérieur pour s'assoir ainsi qu'une terrasse très sympa durant l'été. Amazing beers. They use a 250 year old yeast from the old town walls of a brewery apparently. And now they've got a Randall. What's that? Well, it filters fresh beer through fresh hops just before it's poured. We stop in every time we're going or coming through town. If your French is spotty, get ready for the skill testing question. "Say something in french, any word." Bibliotheque. That means library.

We did a flight of 8 beers, most of which we really enjoyed. The atmosphere was great and our server was nice. We chose 4 stars instead of 5 because we weren't fans of not being able to start a tab and needed to cash out for each round of drinks purchased, and the snack options were chips, pretzels, microwave popcorn and mackerel.

The two IPAs I had here (Etienne - NE IPA and Tropique Thunder west coast style IPA) were fantastic and on par with some of the better IPAs I get in the states. The venue is incredible - awesome outdoor space. Would come here often if I lived in QC.

La Barbarie was one of my husband's must go places because he likes beer and he loves the interesting variety that he can get when on vacation. He tried the whole flight of beer, which was more beer than he probably would have preferred. It's probably a better fit for two tasters as opposed to one. They had the whole gamut of beers, from light to dark, with different flavors as well. Though he drank them all, the beers themselves did not really knock his socks off. We enjoyed, the ambience and were surprised to see several women here as a similar location in Boston would have a lot more men. Some people were chilling on the patio even though it was a bit chilly for us in October. The Wi-Fi was also welcome for me since I was not sampling all of the bieres. It would have been nice if they did have food but that's not their thing.

Great beers. We ordered a 8 drink flight and then ordered a pint of my fav beer. The place has a cool friendly vibe. The bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable about the beers. We also got their tshirts. I would go back if I am ever in Quebec City again.

This is a locals place. Service is in french. Interesting selection of beer. You can bring your on food, which is nice. Not much to say other than if it's warm and sunny, use the hamac on the tease. The only downside is that since it's a popular place, service is a bit slow

Great beer! We went on trivia night on Monday & even though we didn't participate, we had a great time. The beer is fantastic, the people are very nice & the atmosphere is really fun. One of the highlights of our trip!

Go here and hang out with the staff. This is a co-op with sooooo much heart. They have an open BBQ on special days where you can bring your own meat! They have a 'menu' full of delivery menus from all kinds of local restaurants with stickers showing their favourite items! They have beautiful pottery jugs by a local Quebec artist that keep your beer deliciously cold! They have great big growlers you can buy to take out! And they are so nice and friendly and cool and laid back. The bar has great outdoor and indoor seating and tons and tons of beer recipes from over the years. Try the flight of samplers to get a taste of what they have on offer at any given time, not all the beers I has a chance to try were my favourite, but I liked the Saison and the Coffee Stout, and loved the heart and gardens and overall vibe at this kooky spot by the highway off the tourist-beaten path in Quebec City.

If you enjoy beer & beer culture then be sure to visit La Barberie just outside the walled city. The service was incredibly friendly and the vibe is super relaxed and comfortable. Get the tasting carousel which has 8 glasses of 5oz flutes that lets you sample most of their beer on tap. I really enjoyed 3 of the beers and the other were good, just not my style. Overall a great beer spot to stop in while in QC.

Yes! This is how it should be done. Beer brewed on site. No TVs. Amazing area to sit, relax, and have a pint. The beer itself is great, so fresh and artistically done. The location is away from the tourist areas and that's a main draw for a tourist like me. I suggest you go, and go the next day and the day after that. Like I did.

Excellent beers and a very cozy and welcoming atmosphere. I get the impression that the locals really like this place. There was a separate room with benches and then there was the bar area. The place gets packed pretty much every day so go early. Order the Nelson Savin -- excellent! Keep in mind that they don't have food. Yelp says they do, but no. I did see a couple order food to be delivered, so that's possible.

Americans very welcome! We ventured off the beaten path to try out some local Québécois beer, and didn't regret it! Took a bit of finding but once we found it we ordered a carousel of beer and loved them. They offer a wide selection of beer brewed locally; everything from hefeweisens to porters, and they're not afraid of unusual flavor combinations (ginger lime anyone?). Fair warning: we did get asked to say one word in French to the bartender -- it's a schtick they do -- but my husband simply said "biere!" and we were golden. We enjoyed the beers immensely and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We'll definitely recommend to friends visiting the city!

The German-style beers are excellent at this spacious brewpub. There is a cask available -- and they have carrousels, or samplers, in three different sizes.

Quebec City beer connoisseur headquarters. All beer is brewed on site. Eric is a convivial host with a cheeky sense of humor. Off the beaten path locale restricts the clientele to locals and tourists in the know. The locals order delivery poulet to accompany the beers.

If you are in Quebec and want an excellent beer with a fun atmosphere this is the place. Period. No food service but they have a binder of local places that deliver. Reminds me of Fremont brewery in Seattle. So good!

Excellent beer! We were a duo of tourists from america. I work at a brew pub in Pittsburgh. The bartender was friendly and spoke english well. We felt very welcome. We ordered the sampler and I was personally impressed with every beer. All were very well rounded. congrats to the brewmaster and brewers! A woman at the tourist office recommended La Barberie and we're so glad she did. It didn't appear to be in a tourist area, which we love, and it had really good beer. It is the perfect environment for warming your extremities and your insides when it's 2 degrees F outside. The bartender spoke excellent English and allowed us to try other beer. I highly recommend La Barberie! My husband and I have visited many breweries and beer festivals throughout the world, and this beer was definitely some of the best! Who knew?!

Incredible beer selection! Their hefeweizen was spectacular and I'm not typically a hefeweizen drinker. I didn't realize it, but it's not a brewpub like you would see in the States - they don't serve food. However, they'll happily provide menus of local restaurants that deliver to the brewery.
