Google
We visited during Zurich Art Weekend and it was fantastic! So many great 🖼️ and also few interactive displays. Its great that they label the art - stolen / not stolen. We easily spent there 3 hours! Its worth getting ticket to all exhibitions when you have time. You will enjoy all the Picasso’s and other great paintings.

Google
The museum is not too big, and you can see everything in 3-4 hours. Lot's of good art, like Chagal, Van Gogh, Picasso. Rudolf Koller was a happy surprise. Really beautiful pieces. Very organized and clean place.

Google
I used Zurich 24 hr pass for free access to the museum. This allows for most exhibits, excluding special ones. There are elevators and many toilets. The toilets were clean and free. The layout was easy to navigate.

Google
Amazing art museum in Zurich! The exhibitions were well-organized and easy to follow their visiting directions. The main museum has more classic (Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, etc) art while the other side of the museum are more modern! Both sides of the museum are connected by an underground corridor. Recommend visiting this beautiful place!

Google
A truly inspiring museum! Kunsthaus Zürich offers a stunning blend of classic and modern art in an architecturally impressive space. From Monet and Van Gogh to Giacometti and Munch, the collection is both rich and thought-provoking. The new extension is beautifully designed, and the museum atmosphere is calm, spacious, and welcoming. A must-visit for any art lover in Zurich.

Google
One of the major museums of Switzerland. Great collection from middle ages to modern... couldn't see the sculptures. Pipilotti Rist was a different experience all together.. highly recommended for art lovers

Google
Amazing collection and the wonderful new Chipperfied building is a big plus providing more space to all the artworks. The collection was so big that we couldn’t see it all during one single visit. There were same artists both in the old building and the new annex. Maybe reorganising the works would help. We appreciated a lot how frank they are about the origins of the collection: many works are stolen from Jews that were killed during the Second World War and the money for buying the works came from unethical gun industry. The collection is still impressive.

Google
At least 3 hours needed to visit, and it’s good to start with Chipperfield as the most iconic art starts there, but Moser is important too because of Chagall and other Russian art. Emil G. Bührle exhibition is a must visit, too. Wonderful museum for small children especially if you come early in the morning.

Exhibiting important impressionist works on loan from private collections: Renoir, Monet, Sisley as well as important Swiss artists like

Yelp
What a great art museum! They have the largest collection of dada pieces in the world making in a exceptional experience if you follow that movement. There are many pieces from classic painters such as Picasso, Monet, Manet, Munch, Rembrandt, and more. There are two museum buildings across the street from each other which you can reach by crossing the street or by using the underground tunnel. Backpacks must be checked, photography is allowed, and the museum is free on Wednesdays except for the special rotating exhibit. Expect to spend 2-3 hours perusing the paintings. Staff is great and speaks English with some exceptions.

Gabriel S.

Yelp
This museum is pretty pricey, and it is not included in the museums one can see with the Museumpass/Swiss Travel Pass. It is free on Wednesdays, but that does not include entry to special exhibitions. What makes things worse is that roughly half the collection is currently closed due to a fire. So you're just left with Impressionism and newer stuff. The Impressionist collection is decent at least.

Yelp
Zürich is a top tier city and as such, I had very high expectations that I would find tremendous art. My expectations were met and I was able to see the exact sort of art that I absolutely love. The galleries are spacious enough that you can get as close to or as far from the art as you like. The audio guide (free! sanitized!) was easy to carry and listen to without being a struggle. Marc Chagall, Joan Miró, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Gaugin is my favorite sort of art. And then I enjoyed van Gogh's Roses, a Monet lighthouse, an early Picasso portrait, a Munch crowd, a Bonnard landscape and so much more. The museum also has a "Swiss Painting before 1800" gallery that engrossed me. Lots to see and you can expect to spend at least two hours touring the exhibit halls and getting just a little bit lost. The gift shop was very good and I'm happy with the prints I bought though I would have loved to see more of the art in relatable sizes. Not everyone has room for a full sized poster at home. This was a highlight of my art viewing on this Germany/France/Switzerland trip and I'm so pleased with it. [Review 16474 overall - 24 in Switzerland - 1982 of 2021.]

Yelp
This is an amazing art museum! My wife chose this as her final outing before departing this life (via accompanied suicide with Dignitas), and she was happy with her decision. The only negatives (both related to using a scooter) were that it was hard to navigate the various levels and sub-levels using the elevators, and that the only bathrooms required taking a small elevator downstairs, then navigating through the locker area.

Yelp
Not a big art fan, but it took us like half an hour to find this museum , while walking through the old town of Zurich, as it doesn't stand out on a big boulevard or plaza. Wasn't sure how much to pay, as the fee depends on how much of the museum you want to see, with certain areas costing extra. 26 chf for the entire museum, 16 chf for the permanent collection, and 16 chf for the Sammiung Collection, including Guillaume Bruere. Lady charged us 16 chf, as I didn't look like a very knowledgeable art connissour. This museum has western works since 1600 and prominent modern art works, the latter of which is not of much interest to me. Prominent works include Vincent Van Gogh's self portrait with bandaged ear and pipe, the cypress and flowering tree, and Claude Monet Houses of Parliament at Sunset Has not only works by Monet, Van Gogh and Picasso, but others such as Chagall, Cezanne, Brancusi, Rodin, Miro, Kandinsky, Edvard Munch, and Dutch masters. One prominent piece: the Gates of Hell by Rodin. The Sammiung Collection was supposed to be free for seniors 65+, but the admission's person didn't think I looked that old, and didn't give me the free admission. Free entry on Wednesday, but wouldn't you know it, we were only in town Saturday through Monday, and Monday they are closed!

Xiaojian D.

Yelp
This is a very large art museum with a very diverse variety of art from the medieval to the modern period. Entry is free on Wednesdays as of this writing but you won't be able to access some special collections (like the Yoko Ono one at the time.) Expect to spend several hours here if you're an art fanatic.

Yelp
Definitely check out Kunsthaus while you are in Zurich. My favorite part was the Monet room. They have three giant Monet water lily paintings in a single room. The impact is really tremendous. You feel perhaps as Monet did -- surrounded by beauty. I had never seen such large versions of the water lily paintings before, and certainly not three in the same room. The price is very reasonable. CHF 16 for adults CHF 11 for students, disabled citizens, Zurich Card holders, and groups of over 20 people. Free for children under the age of 16 and Swiss students Free for all on Wednesdays! The museum is open until 8pm so you could definitely go after work.

Kenneth R.

Yelp
We spent 16 CHF each for entry into the "collection" and enjoyed a Swiss-centric view of modern art. The collection of works by Alberto Giacometti (acquired from a Pittsburgh industrialist!) was staggering. There were many paintings by Swiss artists whose names were unfamiliar to me. Having visited major art museums in Chicago and Philadelphia earlier this month, I thought that this Kunsthaus was on the small side. On the other hand, there was plenty to see! I recommend this stop both to Yelpers who are in town only briefly (as I was) and to those who live in the city.

Brittany S.

Yelp
I dig weird. And art is no exception. I'd pick Warhol and friends peeing on a canvas (see museum in Pittsburgh) any day to a dark Rembrandt portrait. To your question: "you call that art?" My answer: he thought of it first. For 22 francs (22.50USD) you can get a taste of both Swiss and international modern artists ranging from Canadian photographer Jeff Wall to the work of Joan Miro, Picasso and Lichtenstein. I was especially excited to see the original "Composition of Red, Blue Yellow" by Piet Mondrian. There were a few "racier" pieces like a sexually posed skeleton, but I would have to say Chicago's Modern Art Museum gives it a run for its money with their pushing-the-envelope collection. I appreciated that the educational headsets were offered complimentary. Overall, I could have spent many more hours here but I find it sad when the price of entering a museum is so high that it becomes exclusively an upper class activity.

Yelp
The extensive permanent collection is comprised of many rooms of art from various centuries and countries/regions. I was beyond thrilled to see new-to-me paintings from well-known artists like Chagall and Van Gogh. And I am always up for eye-balling a bit of Pop-art, but can't help thinking that I've seen it all before... In addition to the art itself, I enjoyed walking to and from different areas within the Kunsthaus. There are some very lovely marble staircases, relief-work, gold leafing and amazing murals by Ferdinand Hodler, an absolutely brilliant Swiss painter of the 19th/20th centuries, in the original Kunsthaus to dazzle the eye. The newer extensions, grand and spacious, are filled with mostly modern art pieces and, interestingly, self-referential art showing the creation of the new Kunsthaus wings as represented by both architectural models and large-scale computer images alike. Upon exiting the Kunsthaus, I spied one of Rodin's 'Gates of Hell' scuptures on the museum facade. Approximately 20 feet from the Rodin stands a piece from Henry Moore, whom I'll never tired of seeing. Being treated to these fab pieces of sculpture just before hopping on the bus en route home was a fitting end to my first Kunsthaus visit, and it will certainly be a nice re-introduction upon my return!

Yelp
A great art museum in the heart of Zurich. I enjoyed its noteworthy collection of old, modern and contemporary masters, set in a building with an interesting combination of old and new architecture. It's not so huge and overwhelming that you get exhausted, but there's still much here to explore and I had a great few hours of just wandering around. I enjoyed browsing through their gift shop also, and picked out some stuff for friends back at home. They also have a great museum cafe, where I had an excellent salad. It was the mixed green salad with bacon, croutons and omelette bits in a creamy mayo-like dressing, delicious! They have it in a small and large size, and I felt the small was the perfect lunch size if you're not totally starving. On a sunny day the patio of this cafe is where to be, especially if you can score a seat on the long red upholstered outdoor couch. I started out with drinks there and ended up staying for lunch and I'm so glad I did!

Yelp
Perfect rainy day entertainment. Pretty impressive modern art collection! Also a fair amount of medieval pieces as well. One thing that was strange to me (maybe a cultural thing), was that you couldn't take a bag/purse into the museum. Minor deprecation anxiety from your things ;)

Yelp
Modern European art 25 CHF, but free with Zurich Card Café, lockers, souvenir store Complimentary audio guides Outside displays a copy of Rodin's Gates of Hell

Yelp
An incredible museum, especially if you like medeval art. I could have spent a lot of time in this museum, as there are rooms upon rooms within. Not too far from the downtown area and the train station. In this museum you will see Van Gogh, Rembrandt, and Picasso. All are worthwhile. Use your Zurich card here as it is free!

Tami J.

Yelp
We were concerned about construction and negative reviews but this museum is fantastic. We paid 25 francs for all access including the Delaunay exhibit, and it was more than worth it. They have an extraordinary collection of giaocometti and munch, and 3 monet murals. The collection is very large and spans from early masters to contemporary art. If you like art, this is a must see!

Yelp
they have once in a year the day of open door. This event is in 2016, saturday, 12th March, 10.a.m. till 6.p.m. The Kunsthaus Zurich the have different exhibitions during one year. Next one starts at 26th february 2016 till 8th of May 2016 with Pipilotti Rist, a swiss video artist and she also performs with the music group Les Raines Prochaines. She gets a lot of different prices and the name of the docu of her: 2009 The Colour of Your Socks - A Year with Pipilotti Rist . Take your change and check out this beautiful place in the middle of the city. It is also one of the popular hot spots for tourists or locals and there is also a Kunsthaus Bar outside of Kunsthaus and you can take the tram no 3 from Zurich mainstation to visit this place. There is also outside Kunsthaus a installation of Jean Tinguely, a swiss painter which is famous for his mechanical objects and skulptures.

Kenneth B.

Yelp
World-class museum for a world-class city! Odd old/new architecture from the outside but who cares - you are going there for the art inside. This is a "must visit" museum in Zurich, with stunning permanent collection and always an interesting and enjoyable special exhibit. Spend some time with Vincent or some of your other friends...

Ron G.

Yelp
I have been to over 150 museums around the world. This is definitely one of the very best "small" museums. Not tiny like Kettles Yard in Cambridge, but not "big" like the MMA or Louvre. I easily spent 5 hours here enjoying the wide range of paintings and sculpture they have. Highlights: a perfect room of Impressionists against a light green wall. The selection of Swiss art-I liked this as it is hard to see in the USA. And of course the Giacometti rooms, which are superb. The building has been built over many decades, so it is a melange of styles! The Modern wing is "very 1970s", almost kitsch. This wing contained a "current" (permanent?) exhibition of modern art which was indeed shockingly pornographic (as noted by another reviewer) and pretty awful...the signs for just how unsuitable for minors were rather small-I missed them the first time.

Cécile V.

Yelp
Kunsthaus Zurich, Museum of Modern Art I know that for you «museum » often means queuing for hours, often outside and for sure, while you're waiting it will start to rain, dozens of people standing in front of a piece of art just staring at it, and others listening to their audio guide which is too loud and drives you crazy... In the end this calm & intimate moment with art can become highly stressful! That's why you often give up halfway the line because Ladurée or the best pub in town is really close... Or you don't even think to line up at the museum because Men in Black III is playing. Of course, I wouldn't blame you for that, if you know what I mean... The place What? No line? Are we in the right place? Actually yes ! And the only thing we feel is a gentle calm. A little café outside, another one inside and a very fluid process from the beginning till the end. Confusing but very pleasant ! The Kunsthaus Zurich is one of the most important art museums in Switzerland and even Europe. It includes art pieces ranging from the Middle Ages to Contemporary Art. Art point The museum's collection presents paintings & scluptures (late gothic, flemish and swiss paintings, impressionism & post impressionism, Nordic expresionism and some Alberto Giacommetti), photography, prints & drawings and a video collection. You can also go for amazing exhibitions ancient or modern. Currently you can admire Rosa Barba, Aristide Maillol and Andrian Zinggwork, among others. What is amazing here is that ancient art is mixed with modern art and it works very well. Each art piece is very well highlighted. Shall we go ? Sure ! I have seen my favourites, Monet & Manet, though Turner was missing... In certain places it somehow seems fashionable to say things like «Oh, I went to the Kunsthaustoday... Amazing place! Have you been yet? » With whom ? A person who is passionate about arts and enjoys the serenity of it all. The Price Adults: CHF 20.00/15.00 (concessions). Kunsthaus Zürich, Heimplatz 1, CH-8001 Zurich Open on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday : 10h-18h Wednesday, Thursday : 10h-20h, Closed on Monday www.kunsthaus.ch Follow me on Twitter @cecilegorse

Yelp
Beautifully curated museum. Plenty of room to wander and important pieces by all your favorite European artists. Well done!

Yelp
I was a litlle bit disappointed about the museum. You can buy tickets for the hole museum. So i did that. Because this was the first time when i visited the Kunsthaus. Every tourist must have seen the art and culture. There are three exhibitions: the Egyptian works, old paintings and modern art. What i don't like is that a big part of the museum has modern art exhibition. The Egyptian art i can only say that this is not the most beautifull pieces of the hole Egyptian art. You must have seen in Cairo and offcourse the ruïnes in Egypt. The most bautifull paintings from the most famous painters are in the Netherlands. You have a big collection there. For me (persionally) i find the museum has not the most beautifull paintings from the most famous painters.

GómezofNYandL A.

Yelp
The Kuntshaus has brililant art. There's Mvnch, Kandinsky, Matisse, Picasso, and contemporary artists, Robert Frank, Richard Serra, John Baldessari, Bruce Nauman, Bill Viola-- all worth seeing. The building is great and it's a museum you can explore in an afternoon unlike some of the behemoths of Europe that require more of a two-day stay. Also, the coffee's superb.

Rob P.

Yelp
Well organized collection of work including paintings by Monet, Van Gogh, Munch and Chagall and modern art by Liechtenstein, Warhol and others. Museum admittance includes a complementary audio guide, which is recommended. Can be viewed in 2 hours, which is the perfect length and size for my tastes. 5CHF discount with the Zurich Card making it 10CHF instead of 15CHF.
