"You’re in Italy, so of course you need somewhere for pre-dinner drinks and snacks. This former wine cellar turned wine bar in Oltrarno is your spot. The space inside might be limited, but it never feels too overcrowded, and it's about as fun and sceney as Florence gets—couples nudge their way to first base in the corner, and locals spill out of the cave-like dining room into the street, glasses in hand, when there’s no more room. They have interesting wines by the glass from under-the-radar producers, so skip a bottle and try a few different varieties. We love their capocollo and pecorino cheese from Pienza that hits just right with a spicy mostarda. The hearty crostini are also a must, especially the hot cheese and spicy sausage combination that’ll have you ordering that extra last glass. " - coral sisk, georgette jupe

"Housed in a former wine cellar, Il Santino is a tiny, cozy wine bar and deli serving up fine wines and top-notch snacks. Wines by the glass (six reds and six whites at any one time) come with a snack included in the price; a crostino topped with pecorino or creamy brandade di baccalà (salt cod), maybe. The list of wines available by the bottle runs to around 200 labels, many from Tuscany; the selection favors smaller, under-the-radar producers and avoids overpriced and overexposed labels. There are also 15 or so craft beers from Tuscany. Because of its size, Il Santino isn't necessarily a place to dig in for the evening; but it does make a great pit stop after exploring the Boho-chic Santo Spirito neighborhood with a friend or two." - Coral Sisk

Google
Most amazing place for a good vino. The staff is amazing and very social. We orderd a few rounds of wine and amazing cheese and meat platter. But with that the staff also is giving you a lot of extras to taste. And they really know about taste… A place i always go back to when in Florence. It’s a small place, so sometimes it’s packed. But don’t worry in summer you can sit in the street to get the Italian feeling ;) Also really worth the money, you pay not that much but get a full experience

We order 4 times and they bring the food at the fourth time. The employees were very loud and they were screaming all the time. Also they weren’t speaking English and we couldn’t communicate and order very well with the stuff. Also there was a cigarette on the bottom of the bread basket (as you can see in the picture). It was very expensive for what it offers you.

Lovely staff, cheese and ham platter, and nice wines by the glass (we had a franciacorta, a natural rosé, Chianti, and a Bolgheri rosso).

We stopped by for an after dinner drink and really enjoyed the vibe, atmosphere and wines!

Google
Amazing intimate/ hole in the wall kind of restaurant! We had their Panchetta Crostini which is divine 👌🏼, very delicious lasagna, and very friendly team. Must try if you’re in Florence! tables are limited though.

Google
Fantastic place connected to the restaurant next door. However, you enjoy a very good wine list and amazing salami of the area in a super cool place, with rock music and an atmosphere that challenges you to sit for hours. The owners were fantastic, friendly and helpful. Real enjoyment of wine and delicacies. Well done guys, you're great. Greetings and kisses from Serres Greece, Christos and Zoe

Google
Fantastic place for a low-key dinner or lunch or simply to grab a drink or two before. The quality of ingredients is superb. The selection of local cheeses was excellent. The bread comes from their own bakery, which is just down the road. Wine menu is heavy on Tuscan natural wines. It gets a bit loud and crowded in the evening, for those who are sensitive about a quieter atmosphere.

Unfortunately, my experience at this place was disappointing. The waitress Laura, who has tattoos and piercings and wears front bangs with her brown hair styled half up, had a rude attitude and very poor customer service. seemed to deliberately ignore us while giving attention and favors to other customers. During our visit, she was laughing and chatting so loudly that she was literally standing in the middle of the walkway, forcing other customers to wait for her to finish her conversation. It seemed like she noticed something about me and my friend, and then started chatting in Italian with an elderly lady she was already talking to, making both her and another customer stare at us. It was extremely unprofessional and uncomfortable. On top of that, the wine and other items were overpriced considering the terrible service we received. Laura needs to learn some manners and how to treat paying customers with respect. I would not recommend this place at all !

Yelp
Wine, food and vibes are all on point at this spot, which is an offshoot of Il Santo Bevitore next door. In addition to the free crostini that's included with any beverage order, my boyfriend and I ordered the anchovies with butter. Fantastic all around. 4.5 stars.

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
The best eggplant Parmesan I've ever eaten. If I lived here, I would try everything. We came for apertivos (which were good) but I was hungrier so I ordered something more. My only regret is that we didn't stay there and eat everything. They were wonderful people with wonderful food.

Mary M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cute inviting spot since it was the only place open between 2-5pm. The most delicious eggplants parmigiana with the most gracious host. Grazzi to Mateo's mom!

Charles S.

Yelp
What an introduction to the lovely Florentine custom of apertivos. We absolutely loved Il Santino. The young people working there clearly love wine and wanted us to appreciate it as much as they do. The waiter discussed our tastes and then brought the perfect wines for each of us, Two glasses each plus the complimentary crostini before heading off for dinner. We were inside but somehow more tables kept appearing on the sidewalk out side as did beautiful young people who sat down or simply stood with their glass of wine. I can't compare Il Satino since I haven't been to another Florentine apertivo bar but we we regretted when it was time to leave for dinner. One word of caution: one of the waiters was so beautiful that my wife literally melted when she saw him. And she has never done that before. Ever.

Yelp
Seriously one of our best highlights from our visit in Firenze! So good we came back twice. The atmosphere, wine selection, and tapas were all you could ask for. Thank you for making our stop here the most memorable - we can't wait to come back!

CC P.

Yelp
This magical little bar was around the corner from our place...and we couldn't believe our luck. The food and wine and service is perfection. My husband and I tucked ourselves in a little corner and fell in love....with the shop and each other.

Julia P.

Yelp
4 stars, why not 5...! Great atmosphere, great wine. Crostini with every drink. Went on a recommendation and would definitely recommend myself!

Sarah C.

Yelp
My favorite bar in Florence! I went there for apertivo and I am so glad I did. The wine was spot on apertivo was delicious. It's a small shop with four tables so expect a wait if you go there during prime time!

Daniel M.

Yelp
Excellent place to have a variety of cheeses, dried meats and more, you must try the Artichoke Soufflé, the Liver Pâté, meatballs, and whatever they have on the menu as it changes every week!

Savitre S.

Yelp
This was a great spot to spend the afternoon in Florence. It was one of our favorite places during our entire visit to Italy. It was quaint and the perfect spot to grab a small bite enjoy a bottle of wine. The staff was very friendly and helped us translate the menu. Overall it was a great experience and everything on the menu was delicious.

Joe V.

Yelp
If you are looking for the absolute best aperitivo wine bar in all of Florence seek this place out. I would literally walk past every day and see if there were any seats available... either along the back wall or at the bar... which you can spot from the door. If there was one, I would take it and enjoy a fantastic glass of wine and it's unbelievable free aperitivo. One of the best wine bars in the world. Check it out off hours and it will be perfect.

Clara S.

Yelp
I stumbled upon this spot as I was eating my gelato and saw the crowd of locals gathering outside the wine bar. I was intrigued and tried some wine with a new friend I made and realized that the owners of this wine bar own one of the more prestigious restaurants next door. It was a super cute place and very popular- so I would definitley recommend giving their food and wine a try.

Greg S.

Yelp
Have a seat at the bar and don't open the menu: just invite your host to set you up with wine by the glass and matching appetizers. There's 20 open bottles at the end of the bar- each carefully selected as the best Tuscany has to offer. Your snacks are small producer cured meats and cheeses on perfect breads, lovingly put together right in front of your eyes. Bourdain never came here but he should have, because it's like joining someone in their kitchen for an informal exploration of food and wine. I was lucky enough to be served by the husband and wife team who owns the restaurant - their music selections were spot-on as well!

Marilyn T.

Yelp
Even at 9:30pm on a Wednesday, we were barely able to get a table. The restaurant next door was even more packed. Il Santino is more of a wine bar with small bites (cheese, salumi, crostini), but also other dishes on the lighter side. We noticed a lot of people were just drinking and eating outside - But it seemed liked they preferred being outside (for example, you can smoke). Inside, it's more intimate with just a few small tables and bar seats. Even though it was busy, they were very courteous. It's good for light bites and wines by the glass, and for a more substantial meal, definitely try the restaurant next door.

Wayne C.

Yelp
Great food and wine selection. Better be patient though. This place is crazy busy. Two people working. Crostini is the answer here. Try the sausage you won't be disappointed. Their bread is very good. Wines are wonderful. If you aren't sure about wine just ask. Enjoy!

Marcia R.

Yelp
Love this place! The best prosciutto, served with great personality by exceedingly good looking men! Come for a glass of wine and a little bite before dinner. We'll be back.

Alex W.

Yelp
Fun, friendly bar with good wine and accompanying bites. The space is on the smaller side, so I would not recommend coming with a big group. I would also say Il Santino is better for pre or after dinner drinks. My wife and I each had two glasses of wine and each time were served an accompanying "bite". My wife really enjoyed her glass of rose and I had a merlot (I think) I really enjoyed. I would come back again. For sure.

Yelp
Nice, cozy place. My first stop in Florence this time around. Many places were closed in the afternoon and I was happy to find it.

Erin D.

Yelp
Sat at their tiny wine bar for an early happy hour. 4 tables. No air conditioning. But amazing wine, reasonably priced bottles. And the best mortadella and porcetta we've had! Very quaint and enjoyable.

Lauren R.

Yelp
Cool spot for a glass of wine and a snack (or lunch) if you're looking for someplace with a good atmosphere and quality food that's not far from the city center. Stopped for a glass of wine just before the aperitivo rush - it was starting to fill up as I left and it's a tiny spot. That being said it's an awesome tiny spot. Trendy rustic decor (not Disney-rustic decor like a lot of the tourist spots) - felt like a cool little hideaway. I was a little confused by the menu at first because I couldn't find a section that looked like an obvious "wine by the glass" list. But the woman working there was very helpful and pointed it out - it just happens that each glass is also paired with a crostini! I got a salty, mineral-y white paired with a crusty slice of baguette topped with olive spread, roasted tomatoes and slivers of hard cheese. All the bread, cheese, meat, etc. is behind the bar with the wines and I could have easily stayed here and had a few of the larger sandwich options for a meal.

Rosendo C.

Yelp
Fantastic Food! I mean it ! The lasagna was phenomenal! And the the lady taking care of me that day was very attentive and recommended me a great wine to pair with my food everytim!!!

Tom B.

Yelp
Small place. Very nice vibe - stuff is very friendly. Everything is made in front of you. Great wine and excellent prosciutto crostini.  Very tasty.

Marcie B.

Yelp
We dropped into this sweet spot late afternoon and were treated to delicious wine paired with sumptuous meats, cheese and breads selected by Nicolas to match our tastes. A wonderful warm experience, will be back! Still think about the wine we had there. Love!

Aaron W.

Yelp
Wow what a night...the most fun we've had at dinner so far!! When we first arrived there were so many people standing outside that we thought we'd never get in. Most of them were just smoking so we squeezed in and found a table immediately! Initially we were a little overwhelmed with a menu only in Italian, but a waiter came over and explained the menu in perfect English!! We had the best Tuscan bread soup & lasagna, followed with an amazing salt cod brandade and excellent steak tartare! The two guys running the bar are friendly and jovial with everyone. Nicolas (bubo) was the best server we've had in Italy! We showed him a picture we took and he begged us to put it up because of the face the "chef" was making as he was cutting fresh prosciutto!! Excellent evening all around...not to be missed!

Emma J.

Yelp
The food was extremely fancy and small, you would need to spend €100 just to get full. Was very dark and fancy. The food wasn't special. Our service was great though!

Jenny G.

Yelp
Stumbled upon it. Best thing to happen to me in Florence. Wonderful wines and even better staff. Could have stayed all evening...no hang on...we did. Saw the lovely owner ( love the 'tache) change over to a very cool evening team. The food and wine were brilliant but the best bit was the mixed tape that you always wanted to make ...the Clash...the Stranglers...even some Gary Numan. Loved it. You will too.

Lindy H.

Yelp
There are essentially three things to order here: cured meats, cheese and wine. I have never tasted a better variety of prosciutto. The place is tiny, intimate and lots of fun if this is what you're after. Perfect afternoon or pre-dinner venue.

Julie P.

Yelp
We had a light dinner there, the selection of Tuscan cheeses and salumi with 2 glasses of wine. Everything was really nice and tasteful. We ordered the Cantuccini con Vino Santo for dessert and, here again, it was perfect. I highly recommend this place. Absolutely authentic.

Secret Agent Mik E.

Yelp
We stumbled up on a crowd of people standing outside a bar. Thinking we can handle one more round after our massive dinner, we walked in...more like we squeezed in. This is a very, very, small bar tucked away in an alley off the river. You cannot get just a glass of wine here, don't worry it's served with snacks. Wonderful cheese, meats, olives, pate and some crunchy bread! There was energy, music, bricks, great wine and great food. We felt like a few locals chilling on a Tuesday night. Highly recommended and wish we could open this style of bar at home. We give it 4/5 boots

Rachel M.

Yelp
This was a wonderful spot with delicious crostini. Decently priced and you won't want to stop eating!

Donald L.

Yelp
Please stop in here and have a glass of wine and an appetizer. Another wonderful place we ducked into while roaming the streets. Can't wait to return. Spring for the good stuff.

Claire E.

Yelp
Il Santino is a restaurant with a separate cheese and wine bar, just a block from the Arno. I have not been to the restaurant yet, but after going to the cheese and wine bar I know I will be going back to taste the food at the restaurant. The cheese and wine bar has a separate entrance right next to the restaurant and has a different menu. The have an extensive wine menu and serve mainly light appetizers. Most of the appetizers are selections of cold cuts and cheeses, which are served with bread. They also have a dessert portion to their menu. The cheese and wine bar is a quaint room with a couple of tables to sit at and more seating at the counter. All of their meats and cheese were on display and were cut specifically for each order. The atmosphere was intimate, yet lively due to their excellent choice of music. They played full albums of The Beach Boys, The Strokes, and Lou Reed back to back. The cheese plate we ordered was excellent and don't worry if you don't know what to order, the staff has good recommendations, trust their word!

T C.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Florence. Arrive early or be prepare to wait - seating is limited.

Rakesh M.

Yelp
We ended up here almost by accident after we couldnt find the place we were looking for - it was perfect and exactly the thing we were looking for. The wine selection was great and the free aperitivo was very tasty. We were lucky enough to snag a seat at the bar, which was nice because we were able to talk directly to the bartenders about which wines to choose. They had a very nice Brunello!

Zoe L.

Yelp
Cute and trendy place in Santo Spirito. The wine is fantastic. Many delicious crostini and bruschette.

Nichole B.

Yelp
Cute wine bar, very friendly 2 person staff, filled with lots of people and very happening atmosphere on a Monday night. My only complaint was the cost: The charged me 7.50 euros per tiny glass of Franciacorta. That's 15 euros for 2 very small glasses of sparkling wine-yikes! Yes I got a little piece of toast with some prosciutto on it with each glass, but honestly the price is just too high even with the "free" nibble. The local patron next to me paid 5 euros for his. Probably a better deal to go with more people and split a bottle.

Eris B.

Yelp
We happened upon this delicious wine bar for lunch, when Il Santino's big brother restaurant next door was full. We had a more intimate welcome to Florence here, and the relaxed atmosphere and delicious food gave us the energy we needed to plan the rest of our day. Delicious!
