This charming cash-only spot serves some of the freshest banh mi in town, featuring expertly baked baguettes and a laid-back vibe perfect for takeout.
"Stop by the hard-to-find Hue Thai in Rosemead for the best bánh mì in all of Los Angeles. For approximately $6, the bánh mì đặc biệt combines a supreme ratio of pickled vegetables, cold cuts, and pate placed into a crisp baguette baked on the premises. It’s delicious enough to eat right away, with shards of crust flying all over one’s car seat, or a bit later when hunger pangs strike. Note: this spot is cash-only." - Mona Holmes
"In Rosemead lies perhaps the city’s best banh mi spot, serving the platonic ratio of ingredients stuffed into a bread baked on the premises, with a choice of French roll or light baguette. Staff recommends the latter for a lighter crispness. With meaty paté, head cheese, ham, chả lụa (steamed pork sausage), and crisp pickled vegetables with the intense spice of fresh jalapeño and bright cilantro, this sandwich has it all." - Eater Staff, Matthew Kang
"The tiny, sleepy strip mall that holds Hue Thai Bakery & Deli could be the most assuming culinary gem in Los Angeles. I stopped by a few days ago to try this city-best bánh mì đặc biệt, at least according to my colleague Cathy Chaplin, who rounded up her favorite Vietnamese sandwiches in LA. It’s hard to argue with this pick given its utter simplicity, stellar balance, and superb value. Ordered on the bakery’s own round baguette, the bread retains a crispness without the sharp edges that would cut one’s mouth. Each bite exudes the varied textures of crisp herbs, spicy jalapeño slivers, crunchy pickled vegetables, meaty cold cuts, and creamy spreads of pate and mayonnaise. What I loved was the restraint, the small 2.5-inch diameter that made the sandwich filling but not overwhelming. At $6.25 each (note: cash only), it’s easily one of the best under $10 things to eat in the SGV." - Eater Staff
"This no-frills deli makes a mean banh mi. The bread, impeccably fresh and made in-house at all hours of the day, provides an impressive canvas for the scratch-made pickles, pate, bologna, and head cheese." - Cathy Chaplin
