Hotel Kastel

Staff not particularly friendly or forthcoming. Rooms just ok. Central; cute location. Lots of older guests/tourists (rare to see someone under 55ish). Breakfast was pretty good- self serve buffet style with machine for cappuccino/espresso etc. indoor pool nice to have but only heated to maybe 80ish degrees. No hot tub. Sauna works well. Steam room and Kneip lacking.

We visited for a quick bite to eat. The Bruschetta with truffles left a lot to be desired. It was just a toast with some cheese spread and minimal truffle sauce, for 12 EUR it feels a bit overpriced for what you get. The staff and everything else was great, the views are really delightful.

Your transportation only gets so far then you must climb up a freaking mountain to get to hotel. (Granted, I'm a bit overweight and under exercised) It took a while to get my breath back before I could talk! On your way up make a dinner reservation at Montona (Montana?) restaurant. It's as far as you're going to want to walk for dinner (and great food and service). Hotel is a bit dated but the views are great!

Probably the best location in Motovun. I highly recommend you to stay here, this place is magic, and the food from all village is great. We planned to stay here only 2 nights and extended to 6. This is how much we like this place. Relax and enjoy your day and eat a lot of truffles

Disappointed. Was here a few years ago and had a great time, but this time the room was small, the air conditioning was broken (and they knew it} -- though they did eventually provide a portable unit. The swimming pool was the best part of our stay, very refreshing.

This is a wonderful property to enjoy while you marvel at the views and history of Motovun. The pool and spa facilities are very nice. Our suite was very large and nicely appointed. We were very comfortable and wished our other accommodations in Istra were as nice. After leaving I had to call and check on a lost item. The staff returned my call immediately and followed up numerous times with information. Excellent customer service ❤️

A compact room but somewhat expected from a 17th century Renaissance era castle made into today’s Kastel hotel. Mine was above some kind of entrance with no nice view. There was therefore a lot of traffic noise and wafting cigarette smoke when I opened my window so I had to keep it closed instead of enjoying the fresh air. ||At the front of the hotel are several old chestnut trees, great for shade on a sunny day. The hill the hotel is located on is surrounded by forests, famous for their truffles. Speaking of hill, it is very steep to get here, especially when biking. There are so many pedestrians to try to avoid hitting on a very narrow cobblestone street, making things a little tense and difficult. ||The staff was hard to find, no-one ever seemed to be at the front desk. The hotel appeared understaffed, and the attitude of most of the staff was indifferent at best. |The place definitely shows its age but is reasonably functional. ||A reminder that no personal cars can come into town, only local van transport can get you in/out. This can add a lot of waiting time when trying to leave the facilities. I called for a van and had to wait nearly an hour more than they had told me. Though the driver was super nice and didn’t want a tip (said it was provided by the hotel), I was very nervous I would miss my connection with such delay. ||This place truly felt like just another tourist trap. I would not stay here again.

FOOD POISONING Yesterday, on 26th July 2024, 2 of is had lunch at Hotel Kastel Motovun. We ordered 1 zucchini carpaccio and 1 beef carpaccio. After 20-30 mins we experienced food poisoning-we were vomiting carppacios during the stay at restaurant and on the way back to the car. The main dish we ordered: pasta with truffles and chicken salat we did not manage to eat. The waiter was not much interested to hear more about our experience after we reported the food poisoning. This unfortunate experience makes us feel there is lack of good hygiene practice in this restaurant and that communication skills from the waiter were poor, lacking empathy and professional behaviour.
